The hotel is conveniently located to the central train station. The room was clean, and the air conditioning was sufficient. There are several restaurants close by as well as some small grocery stores. The area was quiet and I felt safe when walking around. I would definitely stay again.

We stayed in two different suites during our visit. On the first night, we had a suite with three beds on the third floor. After deciding to extend our stay by an additional night, we moved to a different suite with two queen beds on the fourth floor. While both rooms were comfortable and well designed, we preferred the fourth-floor suite. It featured higher ceilings, a larger bathroom, and one of the queen beds was a foldout sofa that was very comfortable, and felt more spacious overall.
The rooms are compact, as is common in many European city hotels, but the layouts are excellent and make very efficient use of the space. The beds were comfortable, and the shower was fantastic.
A special mention goes to Luca at the front desk, who was exceptionally attentive, professional, and welcoming throughout our stay. The entire staff provided excellent service.
A highlight was lunch at Ristorante Da Gennaro dal 1936 near the Duomo. We ordered Spaghetti alle Vongole and were immediately impressed—it was not only our favourite version in Italy but quite possibly the best we have ever had anywhere. The flavours were perfectly balanced, the clams were fresh and plentiful, and the pasta was cooked beautifully. We enjoyed it so much that we ordered a second serving to share. (The opposite was true at the Risoellate.)
Overall, this is a comfortable, well-located hotel with excellent service, and I would not hesitate to stay here again or recommend it to others visiting Milan.

My wife and I stayed at Hotel Berna for 2 nights in May 2026. The hotel staff was very friendly, professional, and helpful. The hotel was clean, well maintained, the room was nicely appointed and spacious. The hotel is walking distance to the Milan Central Train Station. Additionally, there are a variety of restaurants withing easy walking distance, in fact one right next door and another across the street, both of which we ate at and had no complaints. Our only complaint is that the carpet in our room needed to have a deep cleaning, shampooed thoroughly removing all stains.

Overall, very pleased. I would not describe the property as luxurious, but it met my needs and was reasonably priced. Three strong points: (1) the WiFi was very fast and reliable, (2) very good water pressure in the shower, plenty of hot water; (3) a half-block from the Centrale FS Métro station (M2 and M3 lines) which made the location very convenient.

I was standing on one side of the annex area with another person waiting for the elevator. A staff saw us waiting and told us there's another elevator at the other side ready to be used. Sadly, the other patron and I had our rooms right next to that side of the elevator so we didn't want to walk 1 minute away to the other elevator. (silly I know)

Beds were hard and the rooms were rather tired but we were only there for a night and the location is very convenient. Reasonable price for the location. However, several aspects fell short of what I would expect from a 4-star hotel. After switching rooms due to a lock issue, both rooms were uncomfortably warm despite setting the thermostat to 18°C. There was no noticeable airflow from the vent, while the heated towel rail remained extremely hot even when switched off, which may have contributed to the issue. The corridors were also very warm, so it’s unclear whether I was simply unlucky with the two rooms I tried or if this is more widespread. I ended up opening the window for a few minutes, which is obviously far from ideal (ecologically, but also it let in mosquitoes).
Other details were also disappointing: towels were worn with frayed hems and holes, the heated towel rail leaked steadily (I had to catch the water in a bin overnight), the shower door didn’t close properly, and the bedside lights glowed faintly even when switched off.
Staff handled the room change professionally and the location is convenient. That said, due to the temperature issue and the resulting lack of sleep, I probably won’t return.

The room is bigger than expected and check in is quick. They have 2 property opppsite each other, with the latter just using card access for entry though they do have cctv monitoring it. But door close within 2 to 3 sec after entering hence it is pretty safe for solo traveller.

Hotel was truly within walking distance of Milan's Central Station, just across the square. Area was surrounded by many restaurants, with easy access to transportation from the Station and many stores. Breakfast was scrumptious but only worth it if you are a big eater. Staff was worth the 4-star denomination, Room was small by American standards but totally comfortable. 2 non-alcoholic drinks free in the minibar was a nice touch. And they still use the old-fashioned keys instead of cards! Quite fun.

I've stayed at Hotel Berna a few times before, although it had been about 10 years prior to my recent visit. It's a great choice when you need to be near Milan Centrale train station for an early departure or because of a late arrival. Hotel Berna is interesting. The rooms are very different from another, so never quite sure what you are going to get, but you can be pleasantly surprised. This time I got a ground floor room, which felt a little dated, but was also quite large and had a jacuzzi tub (not one of the dated elements). Overall, very nice. I like the restaurant next store, which stays open a little late. I didn't have time for breakfast this time, but I remember that the breakfast and breakfast room are great. This is a hotel I will probably return to, next time I need to be near the train station.

Despite the annex being virtually empty I was given the worst room in the entire hotel. I am not sure if this is in retaliation to booking with Expedia as a means of discouraging booking via 3rd party sites.
Room 126 noise level is on an industrial scale and is not fit for human habitation. If it were a workplace the work safe authorities would probably shut it down.
I rang down to reception and duty manager came up and did his well rehearsed attempt to fain surprise and concern. He then went to an electrical switch panel and turned off the air con fan.
Firstly the practice of low level staff tampering with electrical system panels is unsafe and poses a severe threat to guests safety. Low level, low skilled staff should never be allowed to interfere with electrical switch systems and could easily result in critical safety systems being compromised.
I was told I cold either have the noise or no air con. This in the middle of winter and as an elderly traveller put my health and safety at risk. I did no realise how cold and low the temperature in that room would plummet overnight. The result was I on my return home I was hospitalised with a lung infection from the severe chill endured in what was a situation which was not fit for habitation let alone a paying guest.
I was not given the option to move to another room, perhaps due to the fact the other rooms were no better but suspect more out of pure discourteous lazy attitude and complete disregard for the health of gues
