We really enjoyed our stay here. Our room was beautiful, quiet and comfortable. Their breakfast had many delicious options and seating in both the garden and lovely, flower-filled dining area. The staff were very helpful & friendly, going above and beyond with recommendations and even lent us an umbrella for the afternoon.

Lovely quiet hotel in a super position.

This hotel is an old palace and has been renovated into a hotel . The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The only problem for us was that the bed was too hard . This could be improved with a mattress topper . We had room 19 on the 1st floor with a canal view.
The check-in process was really easy and we dropped our bags off early. The staff were really friendly and helpful. There was a complimentary bottle of Prosecco which we enjoyed in the lovely garden.
Drinks can be ordered from the reception area.
There is a mini bar in the room with reasonable prices.
There was lots of choice for breakfast cooked and continental and fresh coffee or tea which could be enjoyed either inside or in the garden.
The hotel was super quiet despite being close to one of the main streets .
I would recommend this area of Venice as it’s quieter with lots of lovely local restaurants and also close proximity to the water bus stations.
Easy checkout and cases stored securely until picked up .
We would recommend.

Terrible experience…

We booked Hotel Palazzo Abadessa in Venice through Hotels.com, trusting its 4-star rating. Unfortunately, our experience fell far short of that standard. The first room we were given was on the ground floor, intended for DICA guests, and had a strong mold odor that made it impossible for my wife to sleep. The next day, we were moved to a split-level room, with the king-size bed on the lower level and the bathroom upstairs—an inconvenient and unsafe layout. There was no proper comforter, only a decorative bedspread that touched the floor, which we had to use to cover ourselves—very unhygienic and too small for the bed, leaving the mattress exposed. There was also no coffee machine in the room.

The shower door was off its track and fell directly on my wife, causing her pain and distress—an unacceptable and dangerous situation. We have photos of this. The room was advertised as having a canal view, but the window was small, very high, and couldn’t be opened. Breakfast was served only from 8 a.m., unusually late by hotel standards. We were told the building is 500 years old and that renovations are planned for January 2026. While the decor is historic, this does not excuse the poor condition and lack of comfort. That said, the staff were kind and clearly doing their utmost to please, even though much was beyond their control.

We were delighted with our stay here. Navid (I hope I’m spelling that correctly) in particular was the epitome of hospitality. Not to embarrass him but he really did help make our stay with his welcome and assistance. This is a beautiful, rare historical place to stay with a beautiful garden oasis in the middle of a busy city. I look forward to returning some day.

We had a truly wonderful stay at Hotel Abadessa. You can feel the love and care in every detail — from the charming decor to the peaceful atmosphere. The staff were incredibly helpful, always kind and attentive, making us feel very welcome throughout our stay. The location is perfect — tucked away just enough to offer peace and quiet, yet only a short walk from all the beauty and energy of Venice. A place full of character and heart — highly recommended!

The property is located in historic Venice. It is about a 10 minute walk to the Rialto Bridge and a 3 minute walk to the Vaporetto dock. As a result of being in a historic building, the rooms are very small. Bring your own USB charger and a 220 plug adaptor.

This small boutique property has character and charm, with the faded grandeur of days gone-by evident all around. The staff were extremely helpful whenever needed. There is a pretty coutyard garden which is pleasant to sit in at breakfast. Venice was baking in the heat when we were there and it was uncomfortable to sit in the one communal space downstairs which also functioned as a dining space. This was our only complaint, the management need to consider how to keep their guests comfortable and at least have some fans in the downstairs space. Bedrooms had aircon so were cool enough.

Beautiful home away from home

Hotel Palazzo Abadessa was the perfect stay in Venice better than I had expected. It felt like staying at your friend's home, not a hotel thanks to great caring service from staff Navid and host Jasmine.

It is the real old palazzo, dating back to 16 centry. I saw and experienced the old Venetican culture and glamour. It has a Beautiful garden and the building has paintings of Tintotetto. It has a great advantage with walking distance to all the major tourist attraction but away from madness of tourist crowd.

My room was really beautful elegant and stylish with old venetian style and decor. The room was spacious with a canal view, bigger than the room which I booked.

I believe I got upgraded but they never told me and fussed about it.

What moveed me the most was i was well looked after as a guest . Navid especailly was very caring and kind trying to help me more than he could. the host Jasmine equally was kind and caring with humility and care for guests to makes us feel welcome .

The hotel offered a complimentary trip to Murano, and tour of a glass blowing factory. I agreed to it, and was not picked up at the hotel canal, but led thru a maze of streets to finally a boat. The boat took me to Murano and i eas met by a man who proceeded to pressure me during the entire tour of his mundane, ordinary offerings. I already have a lot of art glass, and not only were his pieces dull and ordinary, they were priced four times what stores in Venice proper were asking. I politely told him i would think about it, grateful to get away from this greedy person. We then walked to the door and i asked him to call the return boat. Oh no, you had a one way ticket. He said. You are on your own! I am a woman 76 years old and have traveled around the world. Never have i ever had my hotel knowingly put me in a terrible situation like that. After many hours, i made my way back to the hotel. NEVER TO RETURN!!!! Dont waste your money with these shysters. They also wanted $150.00 to take me to the port where i was going on a cruise. I got there for ONE DOLLAR AND FIFTY CENTS. This is absolutely true. Do not waste your valuable time with this horrid group. The hotel itself had some nice relics, that is all.

Wonderful stay

The hotel is very classy in a building overlooking a small canal. The reception staff are outstanding, nothing is too much trouble. The hotel is very clean.
The immediate area is very quiet but also close to railway station, Grand Canal and San Marco.
It is also only 7 minutes walk to Fondamente Nove where you can get boat to airport and islands of Murano and Burano. The hotel has a beautiful secluded garden to relax.

The staff and villa were both wonderful. It was clean and the breakfast was abundant. They also offer an afternoon tea/snack and the grounds were pretty. I would stay here again- everyone was so nice and welcoming to me!

Room was comfortable, if a little warm, and well appointed. The location was very convenient for both the Fte. Nova ferry stop and the main street to access the rest of the city. The surrounding area was also great for quieter more local bars and restaurants. A great hotel and if back in Venice we would certainly look to rebook.

This hotel is an excellent place for a honeymoon, very nice, antique furniture, the service at the dining is excellent, as well as food. It’s not so close to shopping, but is walkable. They give you the trip to Murano’s island for free. It has a garden at the front and in the back, is very clean

Gorgeous historic hotel with friendly staff

The hotel building was created in the 1500s for a doge of Venice. Stunning, historic location. I bet the ceilings in our rooms were 22 feet tall! I adored the large public rooms with old oil paintings. It was lovely to eat breakfast in the courtyard garden. Staff were very helpful including making dinner suggestions at two different restaurants. They also booked us a water taxi to take us back to the airport at the end of our trip. Wonderful location on a quiet canal. I was surprised how quiet it was as I thought party boats might be going by below our window all night long. If I were a woman traveling alone, I would not like coming back the narrow passageway by myself after dark from the large pedestrian street nearby.

I booked this room over a year ago. When we got there , they had us in the only room on the first floor. We know this is Venice and humidity is usually high but this room was right at water level. The room smelled musty and the humidity was extremely high. I washed a shirt and it took 3 days to dry. All clothes we put on felt damp. We were also stuffy and eyes were itchy. Maybe mold. Do not let them give you this room

I like my hotels historic and slightly haunted, and I am in love with Palazzo Abadessa. If you need a modern sterile could-be-anywhere hotel, it's probably not for you. If you want character, charm, adventure, and world-class hospitality, you won't want to stay anywhere else. Darwin is lovable, the breakfast is so much better than we expected, and we were able to walk everywhere. I would stay there anytime, I wish I lived there.

Beautiful old-style palazzo with antiques, paintings, and sculptures in the lobby and a large garden where you can eat the hotel’s tasty breakfast. Friendly and very helpful staff. We arrived by water taxi and entered the hotel through its private water entrance on one of the canals, but it is also a short walk to one of the ferry stops. Rialto bridge is 10 minutes walk, while San Marco is about 20 minutes.

Staff were a big plus. It was also very conveniently placed with good restaurants, access back to the airport (from the port dock F.Te Nove A). This is a gorgeous former palace, beautifully and authentically decorated; with free afternoon tea/coffee time, every day plus a free happy hour on Saturday. The relaxing gardens sealed this as our first choice. A great choice!

Hotel was one of the better ones in venice, with regard to decor, they all seem very outdated but maybe the are trying to keep the venitian charm, which is fine but please add some mordern touches. Our room was very unpleasently warm the whole of our visit. Expedia stated there was aircon but there isnt, we tried to call down to reception with no avail, so hubby ended up going down and asking about the aircon, to which we were told there is none. We was offered a fan, which wasnt great but better than nothing, we had to have it on full the whole time we was there, even during the night, which made my eyes sore, we even had to have the windows open which wasnt great as we got bit quite a lot during the night. Husband also tried to call down for an iron and
ironing board, as none in room but again no answer, so had to go down to reception, to which my husband was greated with a roll of the eyes, disgusting customer serivce, yet the man who was on the desk when we arrived in the morning, couldn't do enough for us. Breakfast isnt great either, unless your happy with a continental one, scrambled and boiled eggs available every morn but bacon was only availabe 2 out of the 4 of our nights stay, no toast and no sauages. Breakfast room where you eat was in loby area too, which i didnt like, with 2 bedrooms off that too, very strange. Location was good tho, but i wouldn't stay there again due to there been no aircon.

The water bus is less than a five minute walk. Lovely atmosphere and a nice breakfast. It is quiet and the bed was very comfortable. I strongly recommend the Hotel Abadessa

Wonderful stay at Hotel Palazzo. Hotel is in a good quiet location, away from the hustle and bustle of St Marks Square but within easy walking distance. Staff are all very welcoming, friendly and helpful. The only downside for us was that we stayed in a classic room on the ground floor and you can hear the room above occupants moving around and having a shower. Wasn’t a big problem as we are early risers anyway. The breakfast is good and plentiful to start the day and lovely being able to have breakfast in the courtyard and garden.
