Our room was a bit small but the staff was friendly and helpful. Location wise was walkable to st. Mark's square and to the train station if you did not have a lot of luggage.

The property was charming and authentic. We had a corner room on the second floor with a view of the street from one window and the canal from the other window. Our walk downstairs and onto a small square gave us quick access to shops and a variety of eating places. It was so handy to everything! Checkin and checkout were so easy.

The hotel uses a second building for the economy rooms down a dark, grimey side alley, that wasn't what we expected, so check where your room is located when booking. Room was above takeaway shop that worked late and neighbours, similarly were working late, so light and noise impacted the room. The smell.from.the alley wasn't great.

So misleading looking at the pictures online. When I arrived the door was locked. A man finally let me in. He was rude and unwelcoming. The hotel had a pending charge on my credit card and then charged me the full amount prior to giving me the key. I pulled up the pending charge and he reversed it but wasnt very nice about it. Then he walked me outside and across a dmall square to a dark dirty alley which was where I as a woman traveling alone would have to access. There is no elevator and my room was 3 stories up. No view. Every evening when I used the AC, it drew air from where someone was smoking. It was horrible for a nonsmoker to feel like you were sitting near or trying to fall asleep with cigarette smoke filling the room.

The hotel is very well located. It is an easy 20-minute walk from the train station and it is centrally located. The staff was extremely helpful (they loaned us an umbrella when it rained and told us where to find good tramezzini). It is a great option if you want a nice base from which to see the city.

Amazing location, charming rooms, luggage storage throughout the day before check in, timely service and check in. Definitely will stay again if back in Venice. Be aware there is some street noise (during the day) but it is minimal and expected for this area - shouldn't be too noticeable at night. Did not affect our stay at all and we loved every minute.

The room was nice and clean. It was fairly spacious for the 3 of us. The staff were very friendly and helpful with directions and suggestions for restaurants. There is an excellent restaurant directly left of the front door that we ate supper at twice. We even were able to borrow from the hotel staff a corkscrew for a bottle of wine we were gifted. The only drawback would be that room was directly on the tourist walking path, so a fair amount of noise in the evening. .

We had a lovely room with A/C, WiFi, TV, and private bathroom (the corner shower was a little small, but that seems common around here in older hotels). The bed was perfect-just the right mix of soft/firm. It was clean, we felt safe, and we loved being able to look out the window to see the canal and gondolas. Plenty of shopping and a market literally steps away, delicious food everywhere, and close to the Rialto Bridge. Upon arrival, the host allowed us to leave luggage with him and when we got back from an excursion later, he had taken all of it into our room for us. There was no elevator-but in Venice, there is not much that is accessible or wheel friendly for luggage, strollers, etc. Every bridge you must go up and down stairs to cross.

Pretty Room with a Venice feel, felt a bit old
Our stay was pretty average. I was disappointed that our room was dirty when we arrived with hair on the shower wall. There was also dust throughout the room which made it feel very old. Something that was very nice was the central location in Venice. It was right in the middle of all of the sights to see which made coming back in the middle of the day if needed! Another major issue we found was that the A/C did not work (which is typical in Europe). Due to this we had to open the windows leading to many mosquitos biting us throughout our stay which was super uncomfortable.

The location was very easy to get to from the train station and to the airport waterbus, as well as close to the Rialto Bridge and St. Mark’s Square. The room was not as pictured with less space and missing a bed. The room also had ants.

Hotel Al Vagon is absolutely charming! We wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again. The staff is friendly, helpful and provided great restaurant recommendations. Hotel Al Vagon is perfectly located with lovely restaurants, cafes and a gondola stop just steps away. It’s a short walk to the Rialto Bridge and transit stop making it very easy to navigate the beautiful city of Venice.

When we arrived the person on the door seemed grumpy - I’d had problems before we even arrived because, even though my receipt said “ pay on arrival” he cancelled our booking and I had to rebook it through Expedia. He barely spoke to us. Our room was in an annexe down a dark and dingy alleyway and up a lot of stair - I’m disabled. The room itself was ok. No waste bin in the bedroom, only the bathroom. However, the location was very good and central.

Excellent Location literally few minutes from the Rialto Bridge. One of the best breakfast coffee “Farini” the next door to the Hotel reception. Gift shops, and convenient shop near by. The room furniture in “Venecian style”. Modern clean bathroom. The wifi in the hotel is occasionally, sometimes just usable, sometimes crap. Luck necessary for a life. Your best choice to strolling by the Grand canal or on the St. Mark place because you can not be slept in your room till midnight about the fruit juice bar under the hotel. 😉😬

We got sooo lost trying to find this hotel, but once we did it was a wonderful place to stay! Clean, quiet, and in the middle of the city near the Rialto. We only stayed one night but very much appreciated the air conditioning and their willingness to keep our bags for us the morning/early afternoon after our stay. Would use them again.

We had a nice stay here. The location was great - close to so much! The room could be updated, but it definitely had a Venice vibe, being a little less modern. It was very clean. We did hear some club/party noise on the Saturday night that we were there so if you want a really quiet room, perhaps ask for one that is not in the front of the building?

The hotel is located in an amazing area in Venice, it is very clean and staff are extremely friendly.
Unfortunately, my review is not 100% positive because our air conditioning system was broken and we had to wake up several times during the night to empty the water collected inside (from condensation). In this way, we had 3 very tiring nights and made our trip less than ideal.
However, the staff was very helpful and they tried to fix it right away, but unfortunately those attempts did not really work. The manager was very empathetic with us and said it will reimburse part of our payment. That made us realize they really care for their costumers.
So, unless you are unlucky and get a room with a frail air conditioning system, I see no reason to highly recommend Al Vagon if you are staying in Venice with your family.

However, the staff was very helpful and they tried to fix it right away, but unfortunately those attempts did not really work. The manager was very empathetic with us and said it will reimburse part of our payment. That made us realize they really care for their costumers.
So, unless you are unlucky and get a room with a frail air conditioning system, I see no reason to highly recommend Al Vagon if you are staying in Venice with your family.

The room was very clean and roomy for four people and the bathroom was equip with bidet, toilet, shower, and hair dryer; however, the only two problems I would have to note is that the room with the furniture and decorations were very old and timey and also there is no elevator so you have to lug your luggage up a flight of stairs by yourself. Other than this, it was a very good location and the front desk people were helpful and could speak good English unlike other hotels in Italy.

This hotel is located in two buildings. One building is next to a side canal, the other kitty corner from it. I requested a room overlooking the side canal, but for what ever reason I received a room in the annex building. Maybe it was because I needed a triple room.
At any rate, there is a fruit smoothie bar at the corner of the main building of the hotel. It is the only smoothie bar as far as I can tell in Venice. They play their Caribbean/pop music too loud, and I could hear it at midnight in my room with the windows closed, which, by the way, was not that close to the smoothie bar. I spoke to the hotel staff about the music when I checked out, and I felt better after they told me it was an ongoing problem and other customers had complained about it also. They said they are trying to tell them to turn the music down, but the establishment is apparently only sporadically cooperative.
The other issue we had was even though the property is non-smoking, the patrons in the room next door smoked and the smoke was some how channeled into our room via the air conditioning duct. No doubt the smokers were the amount of smokers in Europe annoying people with their cigarette smoke is beyond disbelief.
These two issues aside, it is a good hotel in a good location in the center of Venice.

We loved our stay at Hotel Al Vagon. While our room was over the juice selling place, we were not disturbed by the noise and my husband is a light sleeper.

Owner was very helpful including carrying bags up three flights of stairs. There is a chair lift on the staircase which we didn't see in motion, but assume works for those who need it. Wonderful fresh fruit smoothie place just around the corner and on-site fine dining restaurant at a decent price for Venice. GREAT location!

when we first arrived at the hotel it was dark and we were a bit put off by being in a separate building to the hotel reception. Don't let this out you off though, once we got up the two flights of stairs the corridor and hotel room were definitely of a higher standard than a one star hotel. Staff were really friendly and the room was comfortable and clean. A good location, just a bit of a struggle to get to with a large suitcase.

Good value, great location. Simple and clean.
I stayed for 3 nights with my wife and 14 year old son. The room was clean and comfortable, though the beds we're quite firm, and roomy enough. Although nothing luxurious, it was exactly what we expected.
The location is excellent, near plenty of good restaurants yet away from the high traffic tourist corridor. Not far from great spots like Rialto, the bus to Murano and the Jewish Ghetto.
One tip, it's a bit hard to find but if you come across the Al Vagon restaurant, go around the corner - and it's next to the smoothie stand..

The room size was larger than expected. No breakfast included, which seems to be the case for most of the hotels (in contrast, we had no problem in finding a hotel with breakfast included in Florence and Rome). Our room's entrance is separate from hotel reception entrance, and faces a busy aisle with restaurant tables (it gets a bit noisy outside, but we weren't bothered too much). The hotel owner is helpful and easy to reach, and were at the reception whenever we passed by reception entrance. The real downside for us was that beds were roll away beds, and mattress was not thick enough, so it wasn't really comfortable. One was especially uncomfortable, with springs poking you when you sleep. My wife and son also got bitten with some kind of pest, but we aren't completely sure it happened in the room - my wife thinks so. Location is central. Overall, not very comfortable - at that price point, we thought the owner should invest comfortable beds.

After a long trip from the mountains to Venice, we spent a night at Hotel Al Vagon, and the room was very nicely decorated for a 3-star hotel. Not only did it have ambienance, but the room was clean and the bed was comfortable. We spent a good night's sleep here. They also allowed us to keep our bags at their hotel after checking out so we could tour Venice till mid-day.

We requested a quadruple room which consisted of a queen bed, a sofa bed and a twin. The beds were not the most comfortable, and with the air conditioning running at night, the beds could have used more than the thin bedspread and sheet provided (a comforter or blanket would have been nice). We would have preferred not to use the wall air conditioning unit, but we couldn't keep the windows open at night for two reasons: 1.) mosquitoes (bring bug spray!), and 2.) the noise of the music and people in the streets. As far as the location goes, it was close to a good sized market and to the Rialto Bridge.
