Quirky features in the room - basketball hoop! And record player, with records - our record player did not work unfortunately. Bar area great with pool table and relaxed seating.

The room was comfy, the entire experience was warm and cozy and the vibe was definitely chill and relaxing, easy going. Staff was awesome, surrounded by plenty to do all within walking distance. Breakfast was amazing and the rooms were freaking awesome! Definitely making this my hotel to stay ate when in Germany .

The hotel has a fun theme. Unfortunately the record player in our room was broken and the staff weren't able to fix it during our 2 night stay. There's no air conditioning, which was a bit rough with the summer heat. The room was also quite cramped, which made it feel stuffier. We made do with the ceiling fan at least. The location is very convenient to shopping and restaurants and is only about 10-15m walking from the main train station.

Stayed for 4 nights. Incredibly small rooms for the price. Nice staff and otherwise comfortable but you can’t even shower without wetting the hallway. It’s so damn small.

For clarity- I opted for the small room. But have done so before and it was not that small.

There are plenty of things to like about the property, including the staff, decor and location. The price as advertised, however, is for a very small and non-air conditioned double room without breakfast. To change our booking to a twin, there was an extra surcharge of EUR 20 per night, and to add breakfast would have incurred a similar charge. The hotel itself is quiet but the area was very noisy; we visited in August and with the window open, it was hard to sleep. I also sensed they had some issue with cleaning - our room was not clean by check-in at 3, meaning a 45 minute wait on arrival, and while wet towels were removed, they were not replaced. That being said, cleanliness was not an issue. I also have to agree that some of the decor is ageing, but the overall feel had much more character than a normal hotel, and the bedding was lovely. The location is fine - close to the train station yet quieter and safer than just outside of it, and there are a range of places to eat within 10 minutes by foot. Overall, I think it offered a bit of luxury at a decent price (and the reception team were great), but if visiting during the warmer months, I'd suggest packing earplugs.

The sink in the bathroom was falling off the wall. The Tv bracket was also very fragile so was scared to use. The shower room is pretty squashed in as well as the fittings being in an awkward position so water leaks out everywhere. The cleaners also tend to smash around in the morning so was hard to ignore and have any sort of lay in.

30 Euro charge on pet for nothing.

Its the second time I stayed in Max Brown. Overall I like the hotel since it is closed to center and in a nice area. Facility is clean and with nice decoration. Main problem during my stay is they cherged me 30 Euro (15 a day) for bringing my pet. In the previous stay this charge is because they give you a bed for the dog and some treats and plates to feed them and give them water. I asked the staf multiple times for this service they told me that they would bring it to the room. Unfortunately after several tries they never brought the bed or treats to the room. I am really dissapointed that even we ask for the bed and treats and we pay 30 Euro they did not do anything about it.

So you want to know if I'd stay here again, yes I would.
The staff were very helpful.
The area is 6 minutes walk to a large shopping street---shadowstrasse and had some great transport links. The food in the surrounding area of Little Tokyo is delicious and the room was fun and quirky.

However!!!

Although I didn't miss the ability to have room service I would have liked a mini fridge. The room was incredibly hot, even with the ceiling fan on all the time .
When I asked the staff quickly found me a second room fan. A mini fridge would've allowed us to keep cold drinks and even some snacks.
Although there's shampoo, body, hand wash and lotion there was no conditioner. Plus you couldn't remove the bottles making it difficult if you were bathing rather than showering. The towels were too small to fit round me and bath sheet would've been much more useful as we were sharing a twin room.
There was no extractor fan in the bathroom. There was a hairdryer.
The television wasn't a smart tv and so I couldn't log into my own accounts so there was only German tv. The remote control was filthy. The rug in the room needed replaced. Unless it was part of the shabby chic design.

Staff was wonderful but the room was beyond tiny. We traveled with a backpack and had nowhere to put it. Ended up hanging it on a coat hook.

Toilet had a window overlooking the bedroom which had zero privacy, and the shower was handheld only and broken so you couldn't clip it properly. So we had three nights of prison showers.

Duvet had blood on it, and the sheets on the bed were fitted in such a way that they were hanging off the lower end, and if you so much as moved your head at night you were sleeping on a bare mattress.

Zero USB chargers so had to go purchase one.

Housekeeping just didn't come one day.

No coffee in room, just some green tea.

The hotel is in a fantastic location and is close enough to walk everywhere. It's a boutique hotel so the rooms are quite small and tight but lovely. The decor is a nice touch and the eco amenities are helpful. The pool table in the foyer is a great addition to the bar area. You can book breakfast for €12 and it's pretty decent.

Comfy Couple's Hotel, Great Vibes

For the price and location, this was not a bad stay at all, and would definitely consider staying again. The beds and pillows are VERY comfy, and it is nice how it is 1 continuous mattress (as opposed to many other hotels that conjoin 2 matresses to form 1) so was very pleasant for me and my wife. We got the mid-size room, and while for us the size was fine, it may be small for some folks, so would recommend possibly looking into the large room. Record player worked fine (for a Crosley), and we enjoyed most of the tunes (across 3 records), especially my wife. A table-top fan was included in the room, and was a much appreciated addition to beat the summer heat. Cleanliness was great, drinks were great, service was great. The only thing i would say that's a little odd (for us at least), is that the check-in vounter and the bar are combined into 1. Was not a problem for the most part, but there was an instance or 2 where the staff (usually single-manned) would be busy checking people in, and it would be a little annoying waiting in line just to grab a drink. But other than that (beyond the staff member's control), they were very friendly and service was great.

Avoid the hotel.

Showers just flood the rooms, and you have be to under 5ft 8 to actually have a shower.

They have these basketball nets on the wall in the room, which might sound cool, but then everytime the room next doors shoots, it makes a massive thud in your room. The room next to be played till 11:30pm..which was great!

Breakfast is the most laughable offering I've ever seen at hotel and front desk couldn't really care less if they tried.

The vintage style is very charming! They need was VERY comfortable and we enjoyed the decor & artwork. The room lacks some shelf/drawer space & no mini fridge/bar in room. There is a bar downstairs, but water very expensive! Overall a very pleasant stay for a weekend.

Great short break in Düsseldorf with family

We booked last minute but we’re nt disappointed at our choice. Saw it first on smith s hotels but used hotels.com for the reward … large room for 3 adults and one dog was perfect for a short stay inc breakfast. We had to pre order due to covid but a lovely suprise served on an afternoon tea stand and plentiful with unlimited coffee and juices… we used the bar both nights and enjoyed good standard cocktails at reasonable prices served with peanuts snack.
Staff were very friendly and attentive to my daughters, dairy and gluten free dietary requirements at breakfast.

Cozy boutique hotel in the Japanese Quarters. The hotel staff are mostly friendly and eager to help. Special mention to the Moroccan guy. He was patient enough to explain how to get around. Although room was a bit small but the beddings were comfortable. Mattress firm. Interiors were modern. Electric water kettle was provided for tea making. Enjoyed the pool table in the lobby. Breakfast covered the basics and delicious. Hotel’s less than 500 meters from Ostrasse Station.

Beautiful Hotel in a great location!

Max Brown was a lovely place to stay and beautifully decorated. The service at the hotel was friendly and helpful from the get go. The location is central and good links to the metro and train station. Being in the Japanese quarter was incredible too, we found some great eateries.
My only concern was the room we had was really small for two people but realised on the same floor the rooms were bigger, I should have asked to swap!
The room had was lovely no doubt but found the bedside shelves really dusty and seems like hadn't had a through clean down.

Other than that there was nothing else, we really enjoyed our stay and staff were lovely to get along with plus enjoyed the cocktails there especially MBM. I will definitely love to stay there again.

Great position not far from the old town. River and train station . 10 mins each way. The hotel was great really quirky in design and had some lovely features. My room was large had super comfy beds . Tea making facilities but no coffee or milk provided. Breakfast room was lovely. Lots of choice but no hot food . Not overcrowded. Bar area very small but lovely . Evening bar tender was very nice and helpful each evening and stopped to chat to us. Only negative thing was in the bar toilets were downstairs and we had an elderly friend with mobility problems and struggled to get there. .Otherwise fab hotel, couldn't fault it.

We had a lovely stay at Max Brown, we came to Dusseldorf for the Christmas Markets so didn't intend on staying in the room for a great deal of our time. After we arrived we found that we wanted to actually spend more time than we thought in the hotel! The staff were all lovely and very helpful, the hotel was stylish and had some unique touches like a basketball hoop in the room. We were told by staff that breakfast is included for all guests (worth noting if thinking of booking as I'm sure I had the option of paying extra for breakfast when I booked). We would definitely stay again.

Good central location within \"Little Tokyo\" so plenty of Asian cuisine on offer. Had to change first room due to smell of drainage. Second room was better, but as mentioned in other reviews, rooms are small. Bed comfortable. Sound insulation between rooms isn't great if you are a light sleeper. Breakfast is free and adequate. WiFi is free but unsecured.

Lovely styled hotel. The offer of free water at reception is welcome on a very hot day. The breakfast was typically continental, which was nice. Enough to satisfy but not going to expand the waistline. The room was clean and well presented. The only grumble really is the lack of storage space for clothing, but for a few days thus is not problem. Not many tea bags, and no coffee, but more given on request, no milks, but fresh given at request.
The major issue was that there was absolutely no air conditioning at all in the hotel. In 35°C heat this was awful. The ceiling fans did little to make you feel any more comfortable, and there was non in the room or bathroom. The first night was unbareable, I had to lay a damp towel on me. We did mention the lack of air conditioning to staff and there was no mention of a portable fan, although this could be a language barrier. When asked if there was one, it was brought up to the room promptly, which did help a little.

Such a gorgeous place with excellent staff! But just the thin walls made it hard to sleep through the night. If they could just improve the sound proofing, I’d be back there in a shot! Pillows were too high too, so could do with pillow options! But overall I couldn’t fault staff, just the sound acoustics failed it, unfortunately.

Really impressed by Max Brown Midtown. We arrived early to be greeted by a quick check-in and upgrade to a modern and spacious room. The bed was big and really comfy. The hotel just feels very cool and kitsch - they've put a lot of thought into the small touches with basketball nets in rooms, a sophisticated bar area and tasteful art work. Breakfast also had a good selection of fresh juices, eggs, pastries etc. For the price, this is a great option for anyone looking for a short break in Dusseldorf

Many customers stay only 1 or 2 nights. I was booked in for 5 nights. My single room was very clean and light with a really comfortable bed and en-suite. My problem was that there was a hanging rail only and no drawers for my clothes. A chair to sit on in the evenings would have been nice, but I felt comfortable, sitting in the reception lounge until I was ready to go up to my bedroom.
The buffet continental breakfast offered a good choice of hot and cold items.
I would say that the staff were all very well chosen for their caring attitude to their guests, and their efficiency.
I would stay there again for a budget, basic break.
My purpose was to visit family nearby.

I was woken early on several mornings to loud drilling it seemed just outside my door. It was!!! They were refurbishing and when I said it was rather early in the morning(6.30) they just shrugged and said 'well we are refurbishing'
They were not concerned at all, even though I said this on several occasions.

Good night's rest

The hotel is pretty hip. It's nice, but not 4 star nice, if you know what I mean. I really liked the inside of the rooms. Soft, plush, beds. Large TV. I didn't realize they didn't have a/c until I got there, but luckily it was cool outside and I was able to open some windows. Plus they provided a fan. I was only there for one night, but overall it was just what I needed. The location isn't walking distance to night-life. At midnight, the streets are empty and as a solo lady, I didn't feel too comfortable walking 20 mins to get to the bars. Taxis are expensive too.

Good business hotel

Hotel was basic downtown business hotel but very adequate place to stay. Very close to Underground station & had nice breakfast with excellent customer service.

I've travel in many countries and hotel in my life. This was without a doubt the worst experience ever. No hot water, WIFI was frustrating at best, the room the size of a closet, I live in New York city, I know small rooms. The place needs a upgrade badly. Avoid the frustrations and find and other hotel. Every person I meet at the hotel had the same issues. The front desk recommendation was to wait 20 minutes for hot water to come back, it was 5:00am when I took my shower can't believe everyone in the hotel was taking a shower at the same time. The staff was nice but it was the building the problem. For $400.00 a night I expected a LOT MORE.
