If you’re going to an ancient, romantic city like Florence, this is just the place to stay to keep the vibe. I can’t begin to describe the gloriously palatial decor—gilded mirrors, crystal chandeliers, ceilings covered with hand-painted frescoes, a grand book room and a music room with velvet couches and classical CDs. The rooms are spacious and well equipped with modern amenities like cappuccino maker, hot water pot, mini fridge and cool modern shower. We could open our window and see the Duomo! Wonderful, responsive snd helpful staff and great location close to everything. One of our must-haves was free breakfast. They give you daily meal vouchers for the most charming restaurant I’ve ever seen half a block up the road with great, filling options.
If you like new and modern, don’t stay here. Also, if you have mobility issues, you should know the elevator only goes to the main (lobby) level and suitcases will need to be carried up some steep stairs. Our stone floor was a little rustic too, but it added to the charm. The other slight negative was that there is a bar or two on the street below which can get a little noisy for a few hours at night. Bring earplugs and you’ll be fine.
Overall, I can’t say enough good things about this gorgeous hotel!

Excellent central location,walked to everything. Daniella and her staff are warm and welcoming. We truly felt like guests in her home, very helpful with restaurant reservations, spacious room and lovely breakfast. Know there are some stairs in the palazzo to negotiate to get to room, if you have mobility issues. Overall such a unique and wonderful place.

The Hotel Tolomei was an unforgettable experience. It really was a Palace! When we arrived Danielli (the owner) welcomed us as if we were Family. The rooms were magnificent but welcoming. The frescos on the ceilings were original, the furnishings an eclectic blend and very comfortable. During our stay the whole staff treated us very warmly and were always happy to help us in every aspect of our stay in Florence. I would encourage anyone to go to Florence - even if it just to stay in this magical Palace.

This was the best place to stay in order to capture the true spirit of the city! It is situated in the heart of the city and just a short walk from many of the major attractions. What makes Palazzo Tolomei exceptional is the staff! The team prepare an amazing traditional breakfast each morning and provide reception in the evening with traditional drinks like sambuca and limoncello and chocolates! The ceilings contain frescoes and the furnishings are tasteful and comfortable. This will be my Florentine home whenever I visit in the future.

An amazing stay in an amazing little hotel. Historic building so some of the things you take for granted in a large modern hotel are modified or not available. But it is a beautiful building and the rooms are great. Staff is outstanding and will go the extra mile. Rooms and bathrooms are clean. Breakfast is something special. A gorgeous place to stay in the heart of Florence. The owner and staff are very friendly and make you feel at home. We got a bottle of champagne and a box of chocolate cookies upon checking in. We’ve travelled a lot but never got a reception like this before. Our room is more like a 2-bedroom apartment with a very large patio that has the view of the Duomo. This place was the most beautiful room I have ever stayed in. Everything about this hotel was absolutely divine. It's a historical palace filled with the perfect mix of history and all the right touches of modern renovation. We stayed here on our honeymoon and it was the dreamiest place we could have imagined. As in the name of the place, it is a structure from the Renaissance time but will all up-to-dade facilities; including microwave, refrigerator, coffee/tea machines and yes, wifi. Ms Daniella is a great hostess and willing to share her passion for all Italian: art, music, cuisine, etc. She and all her staff are very amiable and helpful. Breakfast was also a gourmet treat, from pizza to local fruits and very old Tuscan recipes. The place is a 5-minute stroll to Il Duomo plaza and an 18-minute taxi ride from the airport.

First trip to Italy and we were very pleased with the Palazzo Tolomei. The place is a museum in itself with statues, frescos, and an overall feeling of \"the renaissance\" everywhere you turn. ( The famous painter and artist Rafael actually stayed here back in the 1400's). It's location is in a great neighborhood with a supermarket close by, 100 yards from the Medici Riccardi Palace museum and the San Lorenzo church and square, as well as a short walk to the train station, which was helpful. Daniella, our host and her staff were wonderful. Very kind, genuine,and very helpful with advice and booking of anything we needed. Be sure to go to her breakfast, with outstanding local food set in a beautifully decorated room which truly makes you feel as if you stepped back in time. Thank You very much Daniella for treating my wife and I like part of your family. Arriverderci e' Ci Vediamo un Altra Volta!!

Nice historical place to stay!
This is a very cute, historical place to stay. The owner is very nice and has an artistic taste in decor. We enjoyed our stay here, and felt very welcomed. The staff is very accommodating and they wanted to make sure we were happy and had everything we needed during our stay. They even made our room up special for us, for our anniversary, which was very nice. This place is quite far from many of the main attractions, so much walking is required. We only were able to enjoy the breakfast on one day, as most of the tours we had booked were early in the morning. It was disappointing that we had to miss the breakfast, and It would have been nice if they had offered to pack us a small breakfast to go- maybe some croissants or something small...Just a suggestion. Maybe they would have if we had asked. Also, if you are booking this hotel on Expedia, just know that the pics of the rooms are not exactly the room you might have. I was disappointed at first because I paid extra to get the \"upgraded\" Deluxe room, which the pictures show having a canopy bed and/or painted murals on the ceiling, but our room was completely different, and did not have a canopy bed. And it had a painted wood ceiling. It was still nice, with lovely decor, but I am not sure we received the upgraded room we had paid extra for. Overall, it was a nice stay.

What an incredible place to stay in Florence! We were lucky enough to stay in a self contained apartment with an outdoor terrace and great views of Florentine rooftops. Daniela and all her team were so delightfully passionate about the Palazzo and ensuring guests had everything they needed. Stylishly furnished and decorated with care. Stay for the Sunday morning breakfast, we couldn't possibly sample everything but what we did was delicious, in comparison the breakfast at a cafe around the corner was disappointing. Good recommendations for sightseeing and eating, such a beautiful place to stay. We will certainly be returning!

Wow is all I can say! My fiancé (who is Italian) & myself decided to take a drive to Florence on a whim to celebrate our anniversary & I found Palazzo Tolomei available that day for a very reasonable price. Normally I research every hotel very carefully before booking because I have worked in the hospitality industry & my standards are high but for some reason I just saw Palazzo Tolomei & just hit 'book room'. BEST DECISION EVER! The location is in the city center & close to everything. We phoned the staff about 10 minutes before we arrived & our car was picked up & parked in the garage promptly. When we went inside we were awe struck by the authenticity & historical beauty of the Palazzo! Daniela, the owner, & Irina greeted us warmly & gave us a tour of the property & common areas. We mentioned we were celebrating our anniversary & were treated to an amazing room & a complimentary bottle of champagne to celebrate. We asked for dinner reservations & we came down to get them only to find that Daniela had so graciously made us a reservation at a quaint & delicious place down the street! When we sat down the server brought over another round of champagne courtesy of Palazzo Tolomei! I can't say enough wonderful things about the Palazzo & their staff! Their attention to details & the care they show their guest is impeccable! I look forward to staying with me again in October with my whole family!

Upon arrival the hotel lived up to every expectation I'd had from reading about it & seeing the photos.
We stayed in the Deluxe Suite which is beautifully decorated & overly spacious. The room was so big we found it a little hard to sleep but who can switch off in a city like florence sleeping in a 500year old palace?! Lol

We had an amazing two-night stay at Palazzo Tolomei during our recent honeymoon. The proprietor, Daniela, was more than gracious, and hosted an amazing breakfast for the guests one morning (which only happens once a month or so, we're told) - I think it was the best breakfast we had during two weeks in Italy! Our room (and, actually, the entire place) was absolutely gorgeous, spacious with a beautiful fresco painted on the ceiling. The location is also perfect, only about two blocks from the Duomo. It wasn't exactly inexpensive, but I think it was great value for the money. If we're ever able to go back to Florence, and I hope we are, we will definitely stay at Palazzo Tolomei! I couldn't recommend it more highly.

It is a beautiful old Palazzo. My room though was very small and I did not get the internet unless I went down the hall to one of the public rooms. I had trouble getting into bed since the room was only about one foot wider than the bed. It did have a small kitchenette area so I was able to make coffee in the morning. All the public rooms in the Palazzo were very nice and comfortable. The restaurant for breakfast was around the corner and had a wide selection of items. On the weekends, though, they serve breakfast at the Palazzo and it was truly the best I had in my two week stay in Italy. It had meat, cheeses, tomatoes, breads and sweets that I couldn't begin to list here served in one of the beautiful rooms. Wonderful spread.

Atmospheric and Elegant
We stayed five days, and found it an interesting place, since it is not really a hotel/guesthouse. It is just an old historic building where the owners allow people to rent out rooms which has advantages and disadvantages. It's an old gothic sort of place, a little creepy on a dark day, but with plenty of character. If you are into atmospherics and history, arches, alcoves, heavy front door with iron portcullus things, statues, old stone stairs, and mysterious corridors leading into dark unknown areas, this is your place.
On the positive side, Daniella and Titiana were the two women there, and they were friendly and welcoming enough. The room was large, and the location is great, right in the middle of Florence. You can walk to everywhere.
However, being a sort of private residence, and often empty and forbidding, there is a feeling of intruding. There are so many rooms, and it's not clear where one should go. Looking for an attendant to ask a question, I called out into the main reception (empty), heard some voices, carefully walked into a room, and a strange woman came out, curtly telling me it was a private area. One thing to keep in mind is that the breakfast is not what you'd think. The staff give you breakfast vouchers for 'Za Za', a nearby restaurant, and you walk there. Having said that, Za Za provide an acceptable fare, and it's a good place to eat at night, too - particularly for the 'bistecca fiorentina' - that huge T-bone steak.
On the positive side, Daniella and Titiana were the two women there, and they were friendly and welcoming enough. The room was large, and the location is great, right in the middle of Florence. You can walk to everywhere.
However, being a sort of private residence, and often empty and forbidding, there is a feeling of intruding. There are so many rooms, and it's not clear where one should go. Looking for an attendant to ask a question, I called out into the main reception (empty), heard some voices, carefully walked into a room, and a strange woman came out, curtly telling me it was a private area. It is an old palace, so some issues couldn't be helped. Some room's windows faced the courtyard. When people came back to their room late, the lights shone into your room and early single notice echoed throughout. Wifi was very sporadic through the ancient thick stone walls. Felt safe. Due to size and layout of room could be hard to get around furniture but overall the space was adequate.

I'm a single father traveling with my 7 year old. I made a reservation for 1 night to this hotel at 9pm and my reservation went through and I got a reservation confirmed by the hotel and travelocity. When my daughter and I arrived at the hotel door pulling our luggage for 15 min cross the streets, we got a door closed and a lady in the inter phone stubbornnessly staying that last check in is at \"7pm\". Despite I pay for a confirmed reservation for a room at 10pm, we were left in the street with no solution from this hotel for me and my 7yo. this is disgraceful and criminal. To our luck, near by hotels's lobbymen find us a backup solution.. Thanks to them we ended up having a room for that night. I would not recommend this hotel at all especially for single parents traveling.

Palazzo Tolomei - Residenza d'Epoca was an amazing and unique experience. The hospitality from the proprietress and staff was warm, knowledgable - exceptional! The location was very convenient, the palazzo was lovely, our room was perfect, and the breakfasts were an experience in themselves - possibly some of the best food and ambience we experienced while in Italy. We will definitely stay at Palazzo Tolomei - Residenza d'epoch on our next visit to Florence.

Historical palace very close to the Cathedral with stunning interiors giving guests a taste of a florentine nobleman's life since 1650s (when it was rebuilt). The place is run by an incredibly helpful lady, Ms Agnelli, who provides exceptional client care and has a real passion for helping tourists getting the most from their stay in Florence. It's centrally located in the Florence old town. 5 minutes walk to Duomo. It's a historic building with a courtyard and gives you a feeling about the grandeur of rich families in old times.
Daniella is super friendly and helpful. She upgraded us to a 2-bedroom suites on the top floor, with a rooftop terrace with view of the city. We had to depart very early in the morning and she hand-arranged a breakfast basket for us to take onto the train. She also helped arrange a taxi to help us get to the train station, not knowing that taxis would be on strike the next day. When she found out in the morning, she rode her bike out to help us grab a taxi and we were able to catch our train. We were very grateful.
