I have rarely been so disappointed in a hotel, considering how much I was paying. I paid less for a 5-star hotel in central Berlin than I did for this 4-star hotel, and the \"chambre prestige triple\" was not noticeably bigger than any standard double room. The standard breakfast was 12 euro each for tartines with butter and jam, a pastry, and a single hot drink, which we took every day of our stay under the impresssion that this was included in our room rate (as I had selected \"with breakfast\" when booking the room) - it was of course charged as an extra item (8 in total) on our final bill. My friends who were staying at Le Mozart, slightly further out of town, a 3-star hotel, reported getting a continental breakfast buffet which I believe was included in their room rate. The room's toilet had a flush control which leaked water slightly, and a door which appeared to have been damaged in the past. On first getting into our room we found it was uncomfortably warm (it had been sunny weather that day) despite there being an air conditioning unit. We set the control but this unit did not come on. We raised this immediately with reception, who sent a man up to investigate. He reported back to us that as far as he could see it all seemed to be working, which we accepted. After returning to our room, nothing had changed, so I climbed up on the room's only chair (I am 69) and pressed a reset button on the unit, whereupon it sprang into life! A guest shouldn't need to fix things.

The hotel is excellently situated in the heart of Aix. We were lucky to be there when the Saturday market was on and it was easy to walk out of the hotel straight into the markets. Room was clean but feel the cushion and foot blanket on the bed need replacing they are very worn. Our view was just overlooking other building so not a great aspect but it was quiet. The lift only takes two people and is used for service too. But if was never too crowded. Bed comfortable and modern shower room. Breakfast in the morning was slow service and I had to keep asking for lemon slices with my tea (in the end I got some myself at the bar). This should be much better and more attentive. We went to a Boulangerie one morning and the croissant snd tea with lemon came almost immediately and that’s just a shop.

It's a nice hotel in a good location 25 minutes taxi (cost 40 euros) from Aix TGV station, not 10 minutes as they say on the website. We booked and paid for a Prestige grade room, number 403, but were given a Charm grade room which is 100 euros cheaper. The manager argued that it was a Prestige room despite the advertising board outside the hotel stating that 403 was a Charm grade. We asked for a Prestige room on a lower floor ( lift not working/ health problems) and were moved the next day. This room was perfect.

Great Location, Some Service Suggestions

The lift was not working for most of our stay. Thankfully we were able to switch from 4th to 1st floor, but still then had to lug our international luggage down 2 flights of stairs. The staff were apologetic, and one of them did help move is from 4th to 1sr, but only after I asked her twice for help. I would expect the staff to offer help with luggage anytime the lift isn't working.

Also.. great location for sure, except you have to walk 2 blocks to where an Uber can drop you off or pick you up. Not a huge deal but nobody warned us, so we tried to talk the driver into getting us closer when we arrived, only the end up back at the spot his map took us to after driving around the whole downtown area for 15 minutes.

Perfect place to stay if you want to enjoy the Provence Markets and Aix has a huge one. Great location, friendly staff. We didn't do the breakfast so i can't comment. We ate at the restaurant and it was very good. Rooms were well appointed and the hotel is well maintained. We would absolutely stay there again on our next time in Aix.

There are many positive things to say about Hotel Negrecoste, but a few negative too. The location is great, the food at the restaurant in front is very good, and the service friendly if a bit efficient at the front desk. The room was clean, and the bed comfortable. This is a small hotel and they make it feel very personalized.
However, the first night at 1:30 am I had 3 knocks at my door (I was traveling alone), waking me up, with no one speaking. Before I could respond to the knocks I heard someone starting to enter my room with a key, still without saying anything. I ran to the door, held it closed and screamed very loudly until a man said he was from the front desk and there was a fire in my room. I said there was no fire and to go away, which he did, saying he thought the room was empty. The next morning, I spoke with the hotel manager. She seemed to minimize my concerns, said it was the hotel security system that noted a fire in that room, and that it had never happened before in error (with no smoke or excessively hot steam on from the shower). She was apologetic, but not that sympathetic to the terror of being woken up at night by a strange man walking into your room. They should have offered some recompense in some way - they wouldnt refund my next two nights either, despite how unsafe I felt that night and the next.
Final note, the hot tub is only available for an extra 30 euros for an hour at the spa, not a hotel amenity. The description is misleading on that.

Great little hotel, very central with friendly and helpul staff. Nice breakfast and bar. Quiet and clean. If you have a car and are uncomfortable driving in very, VERY narrow streets, leave the car in the nearby parking garage Parc Mignet, only a few minutes walk from the hotel.

Staff and location were excellent! However, access to the property was difficult and stressful. We stayed there for 11 days and drove around Provence most days. Our return trip always caused anxiety because of bollards not always working properly. There should be easier access to the hotel which was in a great location.

Nice room. Nice lighting. Great restaurants all around. The location is cut off from normal motor traffic so that makes it impossible to get Uber so keep this in mind. Chairs were a little wobbly. We had the “Do Not Disturb” sign posted and the staff knocked anyway before 9am. When we came outside the DND sign was gone. We told the front desk manager later and she said it was a mistake they made. Annoying. Most front desk staff was friendly and helpful except for one seemed to be unhappy to be there and never smiled. She was communication-challenged and had to get very simple things or questions explained to her 2-3 times. Her boss seemed annoyed with her and finally took over.

Great Hotel - read review regarding accessibility

Wonderful Hotel. Everything about it was top notch.
The only exception is what others have said...it. is a nightmare to get to by car but I wouldn't ding the overall quality and value of this establishment. Be prepared to be confused beyond belief as to how to get to it. Because it is in the foot traffic area only, you will need to use the call boxes at the street baracades for security to lower them for passage and entry to the area the hotel is.

Highly recommend! Perfect location on Cours Mirabeau. Staff very willing to help with booking our train and renting electric scooters. We had the least expensive room, which was beautiful and spacious, with excellent storage for clothes and toiletries. Very walkable to restaurants and shops, right in front of the pedestrian street which has a market 3 days a week.

Rooms are surprisingly quiet given all the activity outside....and good value for the cost. Daily housekeeping was nice and front desk staff very friendly and helpful with dinner booking and tour reservations.
Only negative is the parking is very challenging to access...not simple to get in or out of and need to call front desk to allow access to streets.

Hotel was just the right size, in the center of many activities such as the markets, dining, shopping. The room had a fantastic fantastic view, comfortable beds and a great bathroom and shower.
The staff was helpful and friendly.
Unfortunately, we missed the opening of the new brassiere, which looks fabulous.

My wife and I spent two nights at the Hotel Negrecoste in October 2022. We would definitely stay here again the next time we are in Aix. It has a great location right in the center of the old part of Aix, on the beautiful Cours Mirabeau. We had the prestige room which had a comfortable king size bed and a spacious bathroom with a lavish tub and separate shower. The room had generous amenities including robes and slippers. I got two great nights of sleep. The hotel arranged for shuttle from the airport, and for a shuttle to take us to Avignon to board our cruise.

Excellent Stay at the Negrecoste Hotel

Absolutely thrilled with our stay at Negrecoste. Check-in was fast and easy. Our room was large and well-appointed and we had a small bed for our son. The room was spotless and modern and had all the necessities. Great shower. We ate lunch at the outdoor cafe, and the food was tasty. The only downside was parking. There was an event going on in the street in front of the hotel, so we had to walk quite far with our luggage. The hotel is located in a wonderful area with lots of restaurants, shopping and beautiful architecture.

Modern, Fabulous and Great Location!!

We had a wonderful stay at the Hotel Negrecoste in Aix-en-Provence. From the minute we got there, the front desk staff was helpful and kind. The location of the hotel was on the main road in town near the fountain, and we could walk everywhere, to restaurants, bars and shopping. There is limited parking, so we had to park in a garage not far from the hotel. Speaking zero French and not being familIar with the city, we struggled a bit with driving and how the blocked roads worked, but the hotel staff helped us figure it out and it really wasn’t that difficult. We stayed in the suite and it was beautiful, well appointed with a huge tv and iMac. The bathroom was behind the wall where the tv was, but the shower and tub were Faily visible. Very contemporary and clean and we absolutely loved it!! Would most definitely stay there again!!

Travelling by car, it was extremely difficult to get to the hotel where we had booked a parking slot over the internet. All the accesses to the Hotel are blocked by bollards which it requires special prior arrangements involving the Police to lower down so that the car can enter. This information is not included on the hotel website. We had to find parking in a public park 700 metres away and walk to the hotel with all our bags. At the hotel itself, once we found out how to get to the hotel by car, we booked a parking for the following day and were clearly told that the cost was Euro 10 per day. In fact, we parked for only for about 11 hours. However, when finally checking out, we were charged Euro 20, more than we had paid in the public parking! Moreover, we were also disappointed to find that the linen was not changed, and the bed was simply remade with all the sweating effects from the night before! The hotel is very well located - in the premier promenade in the town with lots of restaurants nearly - but the service in the hotel itself put a damper on the holiday experience for us.

The hotel location is perfect. Room was pretty good compared to what you get in other hotels in France especiallay Paris or Aix En Provence. Staff were very nice professional and kind. Lucie is an amazing person, she helped me get the appropriate room when she knew my mom had mobility problems. Yoann is a great person too very welcoming and friendly. So the rest of the team. I really recommend this hotel and would definitely stay again there when in Aix. Middle of Cours Mirabeau accessible to everything around.

Beautiful hotel and very quiet. (We weren't facing the front with sidewalk dining.) Parking is tough as we saw no spaces within blocks of the hotel. We were fortunate to receive the last remaining space in a small parking lot. Luce was very helpful getting us out of the hotel to get to the airport as the city had blocked all exits due to a local bike race. I highly recommend this hotel unless you are driving.

This is one seriously overrated hotel.....

Great location. Walking to anything in Aix.

Absolutely impersonal service. The desk clerks tried but something akin to ‘customer setvice’ apparently a concern of the hotel owners. Shrugs and blank stares.

Do not take breakfast. Just don’t. Bad value and other opportunities abound nearby.

Parking is expensive and a nightmare. I know parking is expensive in center cities but this hotel does its very best to make the experience a terrible one. That presumes you can even find the place amid the cluttered frontage.

WiFi—well just give up on that.

Rooms are modern and comfortable but oppressively dull—apparently the theme was to get as many shades of gray in the rooms with not one color shade to dispel the gloom.

The place thinks it’s the Hotel Crillon. Well, it’s not.

Unless you get a very good rate for the joint find another place for the night. Really. Please.

Great hotel if you're walking with no suitcases!

We booked the hotel because of it's central location and parking. However, it took us over an hour and a half of driving in ever decreasing circles to gain access to the hotel. Security bollards have been installed at the ends of all roads leading into the Cours Mirabeau so you can't drive your car close to the hotel unless you call them to give your licence plate, car model and colour. There should be information on the website letting guests know that it's a problem if you arrive with a car and suitcases. There is an onsite garage with limited availability so you have to book a spot when you make your reservation. It would have been helpful to have been told about this when booking. We had to park our car in a public parking lot which was a short walk away from the hotel. A receptionist told us that guests give them a hard time about the access issue on a daily basis. Otherwise, the room was nice and clean. We understand that security is an issue but give guests the information required to gain access!!

Excellent location, and very comfortable bed. We could hardly believe how lucky we were that it was between the interesting area of old Aix and the Quartier Mazarin with its amazing galeries, housed in 17th century buildings. Everything we wanted to see was within easy walking distance and the bus station only 10 minutes away. We also enjoyed the breakfast so much we didn't bother looking elsewhere.

the most unpleasant experience is actually getting into the hotel. The hotel is located on a blocked section of town road (part of the center pedestrian walk) I actually had to stop in the middle of a very busy round about and push a button on the side of the road that connected me to the police. All this information was given to me while standing in the middle of the round about and blocking traffic. Than I got into another block leading to the hotel parking lot where i had to call the hotel and they opened it for me. all this information is not available when you book your reservation nor the hotel informed you when i booked the room and could save 45 minutes trying to figure this out myself. Now after i vetted all this out.....
Very nice hotel clean and simple. Rooms are good size bathrooms are great shower was excellent
bed and sheets were wonderful. the only down side in the room is the AC that was not sufficient especially at night and the closet that was to small for 2 people although there is a large dresser in the bathroom under the sink with plenty of room. Despite the fact that it was very difficult to get to the hotel the location of this hotel is great, everything is within a walking distance. very nice over all.

Good Location, Clean and Comfortable Room

The location was great - amid many cafes and restaurants. Parking is not cheap. We chose to park our car ourself rather than pay the $20/day fee. At the nearest garage we paid $25 for 24 hours which in the end was cheaper than paying the $20/day since it would have totaled $40.
The room was very clean and new. The bed was very comfortable.
The AC system was pretty cool, no pun intended. With a remote you can control the direction of the AC as well as the level of cooling.

Centrally located but don't arrive with a car

The basic quality of the hotel and front desk service was good. The room would have been great if it would not have been on the ground floor next to the breakfast, front desk and elevators. it was very noisy every time people came in and out through the night. Breakfast service early on woke us up for good. To have a room in this location they should have sound proofed the door somehow.
Another major concern for us was access to the hotel and the so called parking that would have cost 20 euro. The hotel is located on a major street without access with a car. You will need to fing a public parking garage or be lucky to find street parking while checking in. The hotels self parking involves driving to an area with controlled access to another pedestrian street. You have to call the hotel to come and remove the barriers. Totally crazy and impractical. Something like this should be disclosed better. If you don't have a car and get a better room we got the hotel is a good choice and close to all attractions.

Great location and wonderful staff

This is our second time at this hotel. When we first came in 2015 they were remodeling the hotel and it looks really good!! The staff is extremely helpful and friendly. The hotel is in a great location and everything is close by. On Saturdays, as you walk out of the hotel you will go directly into the market where you can purchase just about anything at a great price. The fruit and cheese are so fresh!! We even got a few clothing items and purses. :) The only thing I would complain about the hotel is the noise level in the morning. The hallways are a little noisy with people coming in and out of their rooms....you can hear everything, the doors slamming and the people talking because of the echoes. They use Nuxe products which are absolutely AMAZING!!! The beds are actually pretty comfortable. Remember you are in Europe so the rooms are a little smaller but not where two people can't move around. Ask the staff for restaurant recommendations. We've been happy with each one, especially the La Brocherie. Thank you Hôtel Negre for a WONDERFUL stay!! We will be back again!!!

Reasonable Hotel on the City Center

Excellent location on the main street in Aix. Excellent restaurants next door, shops, old town,
museums, tourist office,train station , all within walking distance.
Hotel staff helpful. Breakfast good, including eggs, breads, cheeses, coffee, juices, serial, etc, reasonably priced.

Great location.....next to anything you could need

They are remodeling the lobby now but noise is no issue...nice quite room with a wonderful bathroom with nice soaps and lotions. Wifi was not the best but worked most the time. Staff was friendly. Would recommend this hotel and would stay there again.

Under renovation but getting there - pleasant stay

Aix en Provence is an amazing academic city. Everyone under 25 is a student and anyone over 25 is a lecturer. Visit the fountains and peek over every wall you can find to see the hidden beauty.
