A well-appointed, welcoming hotel in a quaint, classic Amsterdam building right on the canal. The staff was incredibly nice and helpful. They helped us with our luggage and were very kind to store our numerous suitcases while we walked to get our rental car. We had an apartment on the ground floor and it was spacious, nicely decorated and well stocked. The heater worked very well and we were toasty warm. We would love to stay here again!

Lovely hotel with excellent staff. We especially loved the welcome ambassador cat, Casey. Also appreciated the espresso machine in the lobby. Our room was super spacious and comfortable, clean and quiet. I would definitely stay there again.

Very nice property situated in a gorgeous area, walking distance to tons of shopping and restaurants. We had no problem getting all over the city from the location. It took a moment to get used to the very steep stairs but that adds to the charm of the property. We also enjoyed the little cat that lives there! The staff was helpful and polite. We also appreciated the complementary snacks for guests. The room overall was nice and clean. We were provided with clean towels every day. Would recommend or stay here again!

We had a terrible experience. An employee entered our room and stole our cash and cards while we were away within 24 hours of checking in.

We left the do not disturb sign, but that didn't stop their employee with keycard access to go into our room and go through our things. There is video evidence and we have a case open with the Amsterdam police to get to the bottom of this.

We had to stop our holiday to go deal with management, the police and having to go to the police station to file a report.

The bed was also broken and sunken in on one side.
The only 'boutique' thing about this place is the premium price.

Do yourself a favor and find a safer spot.

We loved our stay here. It was such a great location. Our room was large, the beds were comfortable, and the staff were helpful and friendly. They provide coffee, tea, and filtered water for free in the lobby. If you stay, don’t miss Wolf Bakery only 1/2 a block away.

The staff at the hotel was absolutely EXCELLENT. When we asked for something they did it instantly not 10 minutes later.

The only drawback to this hotel is NO elevator. If you are young and healthy or if you can lock in a lower floor room like we did this hotel is a GREAT choice.

Disappointing and shabby stay.

The reception area was as advertised. The staff were polite, but not particularly friendly.

The bedroom was as advertised in size and decor, except that the curtains in my room, which looked out onto an inner courtyard along with several other rooms, offered no privacy at all.
So, if you wanted any privacy, you had to be in semi darkness or with the lights on even in daylight hours, as you had to close the curtains to get any privacy.
A set of net curtains for day time and black out/opaque curtains for night time would make much more sense and offer the required privacy.

The bathroom was shabby, and in need of refurbishment with peeling paint on the ceiling, mould and yellowing tile grout in the shower cubicle.

Further, the bathroom was very oddly situated segregated from the bedroom where you had to get through two doors, all within the main room space, to access it.

Certainly not an experience I would repeat, especially given the price charged for the stay. The staff were unhelpful when asked if I could change rooms.

Finally, something I found extremely odd was the varying amounts my friend and I were charged as city tax for our one night stay.

All in all a disappointing and shabby stay. Not one to be repeated and not one I would recommend.

A gem of a find!

A lovely short stay in this fabulously located hotel and it did not disappoint. The room was spacious and well served with clean towels delivered each day and complimentary drinks provided on arrival. Staff were very friendly and accommodating and the free coffee in the reception was to die for. Despite being in the heart of the city, we enjoyed a peaceful night’s sleep due to the clever location of the room in proximity of traffic. The bed was large and comfortable. Sure, the short stairway to the room was a little daunting and may be challenging for someone with limited mobility, but is in keeping with a building of this style and did not cause us any issues. The hotel also has resident the coolest cat in Amsterdam! Overall, a wonderful stay in a fantastic gem of a hotel.

Noisy, dirty, smelly, old place to stay at. On the first floor the Walls and windows are paper thin. You can hear cars, people walking and talking outside your room. I couldn’t sleep with the hotel desk clerk singing outside our door! Hotel towels were crusty and stained. Hotel staff didn’t even want to get up off the sofa to help us.
The only redeeming factor is view of canal but you have to put up with people smoking and drinking right outside.
We checked out after our first night losing 2 night worth of fees.

A Quirky hotel wi5h a great location. We had a canal view room which had beautiful bug windows thay ipened up. The room itself was small, to be expected in a hiayorical building. Its in beed of some TLC though, floora in rough shape, walls need paintin, the bathroom smelled moldy, the caulk all around needs to bw replaced. The fosset lwaked and plumbing was held together by ducktape. Overall the hotel needs a refresh, its tired and not very clean when you take a close look. Free coffee, snacks and water in the lobby all throughout was appreviated, though there is limited lobby seating. Personel was friendly and helpful. Overall a decent stay to be right in the heart of the hustle and bustle of Amsterdam

While the hotel was nice and check in effortless. When I made the booking it should have been noted that major national holiday was occurring the day we were leaving and car transport world be impossible to the airport. Rather than missing our early flight the following day we left a day early to assure we could be at the airport. Unlike other Expedia listings that usually give this warning. The grand canal boutique hotel did not. They provided no apologies and were rather rude that we didn’t know. We booked this room months I’ve been to Amsterdam dozens of times. And honestly this will be my last the the city has changed. Kindness and genuine concern for guests seems to be gone. We were traveling with friends who stayed at other hotels though they booked non refundable rates through Expedia they were refunded a night stay for leaving early to be able to be at the airport and not stranded. This is something this hotel should have made aware when booking the dates we did. Lesson is do your research a bit more. I’ve been in other cities in Europe during holidays but never experienced something like this. Fortunately Amex is charging back the night we didn’t use direct from the hotel. But was such a a headache. Nice hotel but dishonest in their listing. Shame on this property.

Front desk is attentive and helpful. Hotel is in a great location. There is free still and sparkling water in the lobby plus snacks. The room was spacious, but I expected a bit more for the money I paid. When I arrived, my AC was turned off (apparently the front desk can control) despite it being 80 degrees outside. They did turn it on when I asked but it was then turned off again two days later. If AC is advertised, I’d like access to it at all times during my stay. My bathroom door glass was also busted out which didn’t affect me because I was staying alone, but I would have been unhappy had I been traveling with someone else.

I loved this hotel. Our room was cute and clean, and the hotel is in an ideal place in Amsterdam. There are tons of shops, restaurants, and things to do within a couple minutes walk of the hotel. Staff was accommodating and they had a friendly cat who lived in the front office.

It wasn’t a problem and it’s not a flaw of the hotel, but just be aware that the stairs are sort of tricky. Like all older buildings in Amsterdam; the stairs are very steep and narrow, and each step is quite small.

The floor in our room was not clean and the wardrobe was a bit wobbly! We would have benefitted from having a mirror in the bedroom and some sort of surface on which to put our toiletries by the bathroom sink. When our room was cleaned, the towels were not replaced, despite us leaving them in the shower tray. On the plus side, the reception staff were mostly very helpful, the location was quiet, and we appreciated the complimentary snacks and drinks. We had to ask for help with bringing our suitcases down the steep stairs, but this wasn't a problem.

It is nothing fancy, but it is full of charm. I stayed in room 32. It didn’t have a grand view, but was quiet and spacious. No breakfast, no problem. The coffee machine in the lobby was great as was the coffee maker, kettle, and fridge in the room. It is surrounded by excellent cafes, restaurants and a supermarket. It was easy to walk to most attractions and central station. Though I do recommend the bike taxis.
I would definitely stay there again.

Great place to stay exactly as advertised. Had a a bad experience with one of the staff members, she was incredibly rude and very unprofessional. We checked in the morning, but our room was not available. We provided our passports and all the information that was needed. We were told that we were all set and only needed to come in for the key. Came in with our kids after being drenched in the rain. Asked for our key and there were two new people asking us to check in all over again. When I stated that I had already provided all of that information, the staff member started yelling and saying that if it was not clear that it was not the same person that had assisted us in the morning and we needed to do it again. They finally realized they made a They finally realized they made a mistake, but there was no apology for the raised voice and rude behavior. Other than that, the stay was fine and the other staff members were responsive and made our stay comfortable.

Yes, some parts could be cleaner, for example, skirting boards looked like they needed a good wipe and areas of the bathroom needed a better scrub but sheets were clean and room was great. Beautiful building and great decor.
Room was really big and stunning windows.

Staff were helpful given English isn’t their first language.

Slight issue in the cat that was in the hotel near reception as my daughter is allergic but this was not the only place we visited that appeared to have a cat (a local cafe had one too).

Overall, though would stay again. Not sure why there has been some negative reviews on the property.

You are staying in a historic canal house.

No fancy atrium, no queue to check in, all very personal. From the moment you enter the huge wooden entrance door you realise you are staying in a historic canal house and you feel welcome and at home. The staff are all really friendly and always helpful.

A spacious room reached by the original halls and stairs with a super comfortable bed and adequate facilities including a fridge.
Location is excellent, 10 minute walk from Centraal station, ideal for museums and city centre but with no street noise.
Would I stay again?....absolutely.

This was another amazing spot in Amsterdam to vacation in. Its near everything including Dam Square and the shopping mall. . Just a tram ride away from the Museums quaters. The hotel had so much history.. justvknow that they have no elevator so the stairs may not be a good idea if you have trouble going up and down stairs. Overall i would stay here again on my next visit

We stayed in the 3 bed apartment at the back of the property. The apart is spacious and has a living kitchen area upstairs and 3 bed 1 bath downstairs. There are also some minor stairs in the hall to the apart entrance. The property is well kept and staff are attentive. The area is lovely. We loved our stay. Thank you.

Absolute dump. Bedding was filthy, walls were covered with dirty handprints, tv was not working, and the room was situated within steps of the very noisy reception. When asked for alternative accommodations the staff indicated this was “all they had”. .

The room looked nothing like the photos, and more like a college dormitory. Definitely deceptive marketing, and certainly not anywhere near the expectation of a 3 or 4-star property. Big disappointment. Buyer beware!!

This hotel is an updated, old (of course) building in a truly fabulous location. The room was fine -- it was clean and comfortable, and pretty spacious, esp considering the location. The staff we interacted with were all very helpful, including carrying one of our suitcases up two flights of stairs when we arrived. (We had requested a high floor, even though we knew there was no elevator, so we thought her help was above and beyond.) I can't understate how great the location is among the charming traditional cobblestone streets and canal bridges, with proximity to great shopping and restaurants, and walking distance to Anne Frank House, and the Rijks and Van Gogh Museums. Plus a fantastic restaurant is almost next door to the hotel: Restaurant de Struisvogel. Strongly recommended!

Loved the staff. They were extremely helpful.
Unfortunately the room we were in needed some repairs. But was exceptionally clean and tidy.
