All the important things were done perfectly ( ambience of breakfast room, cleanliness of shower, comfortable bed). Dirty walls and carpet let the hotel down. A lick of paint and new carpet would transform my experience to a near perfect stay. Waffles at breakfast were very nice.

We booked this hotel for the area and based on the previous reviews. The location we couldn’t fault, such a lovely part of the city by the canals and quaint streets and cafes. Whilst the staff at the hotel were lovely and the building itself impressive the room and facilities really lets this place down and it would be more suited to a single oversight stay than anything longer. The lack of anywhere to store clothes feels pretty standard for any hotel but all we had were a few hooks on the wall so spent the holiday living out of our bags. In addition poor overall lighting (too bright or too dark and no option to adjust) lack of a decent mirror (other than tucked into a corner of the room) and poor water pressure in the modern shower really made this place feel more style over substance with little functionality. This is a lovely location with lovely staff but probably better suited to an overnight stay rather than a longer break.

We had an amazing stay at Hotel Mercier Amsterdam! We loved the area, lots of fun boutiques and restaurants but also a very quiet and peaceful and safe side of Amsterdam. Our room was beautiful and all the staff were friendly. I would definitely stay here again

We arrived very early in the morning and were told our room would not be ready until 3 pm since the hotel was sold out. However, I became sick later in the morning and the staff did everything they could to get me into a room right away. I really appreciate the caring and concern they showed me. Thankfully, I felt better later that day but it was so nice to be cared about especially in a foreign country. I just can’t thank them enough for going to great lengths to get us into a room so quickly.

Room was clean and confortable and good central location whilst still being quiet. It suggests toiletries are included but only body wash was provided. For some unknown reason, our key cards were cut off before checkout and we got stuck in the garden area in the rain, trying to get out, as there are restricted access doors back into the main building and hotel exit, which was very inconvenient.

The lobby and restaurant area looked nice, but the general vibe of the room corridors and my room was so offputting that I cut my stay short by two nights even though I wouldn’t get my money back. The bed in my room was comfortable but the dark decor and hard floors made the room feel cold and unwelcoming. Better lighting, a lighter paint color and a rug would make the room more welcoming. There was nowhere to hang my coat or put anything. A little hook and floating shelf would have been an easy fix (I ended up hanging my coat and clothes in the bathroom.) It was very sparsely furnished which made my brief stay inconvenient. The toilet was also weirdly very high. I’ve been in worse hotels, and the location is good, but I would not stay here again as it doesn’t offer a very welcoming or comfortable space to rest while on vacation.

We did not avail ourselves of breakfast at the hotel, as it was not included, which is the only hotel of all those in our long itinerary that did not offer this as part of the room deal. We paid a lot of money for the particular room we took (and paid an extra €64 for the city tax. You would think it would have been included. This is why the hotel isn't getting top marks.

I'm not sure why this hotel had such high ratings. We were only at the hotel for an overnight stay with an early flight in the morning. The location was great and felt very safe. But the hotel lacked some basic necessities. Our shower kept going back and forth between warm and cold water, there were no washcloths in the room, and the lights were so dim it was hard to see anything.

My husband and I stayed at Hotel Mercier for 4 nights (as part of a 12-day Europe trip from Toronto), and it ended up being one of our favourite stops.

We stayed in a Comfort Double Room, which was a great size, perfect for unpacking and feeling settled. I loved that we could put everything away, even our luggage cases, which kept the space uncluttered. The room was super quiet, which was amazing for rest, and the robes and slippers were so great to have. Another highlight was being able to check in early after our long overnight flight.

We loved having access to the Double Shift gym for a reduced fee—it’s a great gym and such a bonus to have while traveling. The location couldn’t be better either: right in the heart of Jordaan, so close to everything, but the hotel itself felt calm and tucked away.

A few small negatives: there was no fridge in the room, housekeeping usually came around 5pm (a bit awkward timing when you’re getting ready for dinner), and our room window didn’t look outside but into an interior hallway. That made the space darker than we would have liked.

Overall, though, the hotel was charming, comfortable, and perfectly located. We’d definitely recommend it and would happily stay again!

Let’s get straight to it: the bathroom. Lord help me. The shower is complicated. Needlessly complicated. All we need is water coming out of a shower head with some reasonable level of water pressure.

Then there is the toilet, which is separated from the sink in another room. Picture it…you do your business but can’t wash your hands. At least not immediately. You have to go to another room to wash your hands. Imagine the germs on the door handle.

The other room with the sink and shower…it has no door.

And the toilet paper…is painfully rough.

This shouldn’t be that difficult. It’s just a bathroom.

That said, the bed was very comfortable. Pillows and bedding were excellent. And location was great.

When we arrived, the gentleman who welcomed us was less than friendly and didn’t tell us about the fact that we could get water, etc. however… Camilla, who we saw the next day was absolutely incredible. She explained everything and she was lovely and we could not have asked for a nicer person and so so helpful. It was just sad that our introduction to the hotel when we arrived was less than what we would’ve liked.

The only thing we did not like was the flight of stairs inside our room (107). They are inconvenient with luggage and a safety hazard . The carpet color is very dark and the last step blends into the floor making if hard to see. The staff did offer to come to our room to carry our bags which was nice.

The hotel is centrally located for exploring Amsterdam. The lobby and lounge were well decorated. We had a junior suite. The room had a poor layout. Very limited room for suitcases, etc. Bed was up a flight of stairs- very steep and dangerous. The shower was situated in the middle of the room with no privacy (clear glass shower door).
We requested a different room but they were unable to fulfill our request. Unfortunately, affected our stay in Amsterdam.

Unfortunately the hotel would not accommodate my early arrival and I was left to sit in the lounge for most of the day. I was also a little disgruntled that people who arrived after me were being checked in whilst I was left with no room. I'd emailed prior so this was not good service. Would have happier customers if it tried to accommodate them more.

DECEPTIVE DISHONEST ,BAIT&SWITCH ADVERTISING

As seasoned travelers who have stayed in hotels across Europe, we have rarely encountered such a misleading, dishonest, and disappointing experience as we did at Hotel Mercier.
First, we paid extra for a deluxe room, expecting a higher level of comfort. Instead, we were placed in a motel-style room outside the main hotel, where anyone walking by could see directly into our space. This was nowhere near the standard of a \"deluxe\" room and was blatantly misleading. When I requested to be moved, I was told the hotel was full and that I would have to wait until the next day—something that should have been disclosed upfront.
Unfortunately, overnight, my husband became very ill, and we decided to fly home to New York a day early. I spoke with Lazlo at the front desk, who clearly assured me that the hotel would not charge us for the unused night as long as Hotels.com agreed to waive the cancellation fee. Wanting to confirm, I immediately contacted Hotels.com, and they confirmed they had no issue processing the refund—as long as the hotel honored their agreement. Lazlo had already assured me they would.
However, after we checked out, Hotel Mercier blatantly denied this agreement, both to us and to Hotels.com. Hotels.com made multiple attempts to verify the information directly with the hotel, yet each time, Hotel Mercier refused to acknowledge what their own employee had promised. Instead, they dismissed the situation by saying Lazlo had made a mistake—completely disregarding the fact

I had such a lovely time at Hotel Mercier. The room was so quaint and well decorated and had lovely amenities including an electric tea kettle, nespresso with four pods, and a marshal speaker! The neighborhood is also very nice but note it is one of the pricier neighborhoods in Amsterdam. Perfect for walking around with cute little shops and very close to tourist attractions like the Anne Frank museum & the 9 streets. Highly recommend staying here!

Should be better for the price range

This is generally my go to hotel at Amsterdam but this time we did not feel very welcome. The personnel has a very strict attitude. And for this price range and for people on vacation it's not the right approach. From now on I'll think twice. The design and the space of the rooms are Ok, they are clean. They are getting a little old though. There is no mini bar or room service. For this price range they definitely should have those. The bar and the restaurant downstairs saves the day. The location is great.

Only stayed for the night but had the best experience! Hotel was beautiful! The staff are very friendly. When we arrived earlier in the morning, the staff let us leave our bags while we explored the city until it was time for our room to be ready. When we came back to check-in again our bags were already placed into our rooms so we didn’t have to worry about carrying them to the room. I was also celebrating my birthday but never told the staff but they must have looked at my passport when i checked in because when i entered our room they placed balloons and beautiful note on the bed wishing me a happy birthday. Which was really sweet of them! Beds were comfort and clean. Rooms are beautifully decorated. Check out was smooth and when asked for a last minute taxi to the airport they were able to get one in less than 10 minutes. Overall i highly recommend Hotel Mercier! Will be using them again next time I’m in Amsterdam!

WiFi was provided but was unusable it was so slow, everything just timed out.
Room was ok but shower leaked and floorboards by shower floor were starting to rot from being soaked all the time.
The window opened but the curtains prevented it from being closed again without climbing on furniture ( luckily we like the windows open).
There is no clothes storage just a few coat hangers on a free standing mirror, we had to ask for suitcase stands to prevent us having to grovel in the floor all the time.
The strange reception set up left an unwelcoming vibe really.
Spent less money in hotels which had a much friendlier more luxurious feel to them.
Definitely not worth the premium pricing!
