Staff were very helpful and friendly. Room and food were excellent. However we were disappointed to discover on arrival that we had to pay £6 per night to park our car in the hotels private car park. Not a huge sum of money obviously, but given that few people arrive on foot these days, it should have been included up front, in the room rate, not hidden somewhere in the small print.

Pros -Great free room upgrade, friendly staff (very helpful and approachable) and food was good, great tea tray.
Cons - having to pay to park to stay at the hotel and pay the same rate as someone who wasnt, food menu limited range, room a little dated and some small decorative touches needed.

Venue was very comfortable, clean & warm, but the outstanding feature was the friendliness and efficiency of the staff. It’s a beautiful building, though showing some signs of age related heavy use, but this adds to the great character of the hotel. I will have no hesitation in returning.

Stayed for two nights over new year. Returned to hotel around 2am after a lovely evening with friends but the noise that went on in the hotel for hours after was unbearable. Couldn’t sleep for constant banging, doors being knocked on etc. Our room was also so hot which we’d brought to the attention of the receptionist in the afternoon who said they’d look at it- they managed to open the window which we then struggled to close at 2am. Mentioned again in the morning to be told the hot water system ran past that room hence why it was so hot. Pool was the best thing about our stay but I do see that they are trying to upgrade the hotel- dining room looked amazing. Didn’t eat so couldn’t comment. Sorry but wouldn’t rush back.

Very friendly and welcoming staff. Our room was clean and warm. The only thing to mention was the pool area which needs a spruce up especially all the rust that shows. A couple more chairs needed too as there were only two to relax on but fortunately we were the only couple there. The pool was perfect for a swim which we did enjoy.

Staff was amazing. The room was clean but old. The bed, although I paid for a queen or king ended up being two separate beds put together, and both of them had huge divots in them from where people have been sleeping. So I do believe that they need to be replaced. Location was great as it was walking distance to downtown. The food in the restaurant was not the best. And all I could hear while I was eating was a whole bunch of kids screaming in the pool. Apparently the restaurant and the pool are just separated by glass. The rest of the time I ate out at other locations. But once again, the staff was amazing. The hotel just needs to be updated a bit. I would give it a five or six out of 10.

Just want to start this off by saying the staff are superb and so friendly.
When booking through Expedia we paid extra to have breakfast and parking included. When we arrived they had it noted that we’d paid for breakfast but not parking. Showed my booking and this was fine but they didn’t know this was a thing.
Wasn’t informed until 24 hours before stay that the pool/sauna was closed and our booking was non refundable so couldn’t even change hotel. Really disappointed - Expedia info should be changed to reflect this.
Doors need silencers or something, I was woken up so much by slamming doors or people chatting right outside my room. Room covered in scuff marks. No AC or fan so had to keep window opened up all night - which meant being woken up by birds or folk working in early morning.
Breakfast was just fine. Food was okay but anytime we went down it was looking a bit dirty around food (cereal everywhere, crumbs, spilled food). Carpets all over hotel (especially the staircase) looking really tired and worn. The money paid just didn’t equate to amenities received.

Unfortunate that at check in we were informed of the leisure facilities being closed which was one of the main reasons for booking. £6 parking fee also levied at check in. Pleasant and helpful staff. Partially renovated but still some areas needing attention. Need queen linen for bed not just stretched king sheets! Room was clean and a great size. Outside needs a tidy up. Good breakfast.

The hotel is well located in walking distance of the city centre and some nice places to eat. The rooms are small and comparatively expensive but this is the UK where everything is over-priced. The restaurant is nice and the staff super helpful- they made sure I was able to use a large, thickly carpeted room to do a 90 minute yoga session uninterrupted.

This hotel has very, very helpful friendly staff everywhere, nothing was too much trouble. Our room was spacious and clean, the breakfast had a good range and the location was very handy.

Staff was great. Our room had nice shower pressure. The only issue I had was that there wasn't much to protect the bathroom floor from the shower water splashing and puddling on the floor. The room itself could have used a refrigerator, and more accessible outlets for phone charging at bedside. I would stay here again.

Eh, not the best.

The pictures don't accurately tell the story of this hotel. I'm sure at one point this property was exquisite, the exterior was accurate, but the overall condition was uncomfortable. It was extremely hot, we had dirt and stains on our floors, and the ceiling looked like it was falling apart. Overall, not very pleased with the condition, though it looked like they were doing work which may help in the future, but would have chosen a different location if the pictures had been more accurate.

This old hotel still gives a few clues to its former grandeur. It has a cosy lounge/bar area. Ok breakfast room. We had a plumbing problem with the first room we had booked. It was a very tired room with stained bedding and curtains. However the exceptionally helpful member of staff upgraded us to a larger suite room which was in much better decorative order - which we obviously enjoyed. My review would have not been good for the ‘standard’ room at all! Price point is relatively low but the condition of the pool and other facilities is still a bit of a shock!

Good value for money but watch the renovations

I enjoyed my stay at Craigmononie and found it very good value for money. The front desk staff were excellent - efficient and friendly. As for problems, the guys doing the renovations (right next to my room) started work at 0800, a bit early and without warning. The chicken burger in the restaurant was burned. My recommendation is to walk down the road for an evening meal. Breakfast buffet was very good.

Have stayed here a few times over the last few years.Staff are great.room & whole place is I`m afraid old fashioned dated but clean warm & comfy,breakfast really good.Only thing that lets it down is the pool area which has got shabbier every time we visit.This time there was a smell in the changing rooms,showers didn`t work and very run down.It could be a lovely area with a little TLC.won`t be back for this reason.Nicer Hotels in town for the same price.Reason we came for because of the pool but only used it once.

Overpriced, badly in need of refurbishment, old fasioned decoration, photos are misleading, breakfast in dingy back room and not in the conservatory as photographed. Bathroom door did not close properly because of water damage. In the lift, none of the buttons lit up. It was a relief to leave. Staff helpful and excellect location and parking but would definitely not stay there again.

Staff were all very helpful and friendly. The room was clean, bed was comfortable, towel warmer and shower worked well. The television in our room did not work, even after one of the employees tried several fixes. He promised they’d get it fixed or replaced the next day (we were staying two nights). The next afternoon an outside service person came and did make the needed repair. We were appreciative of their follow-up on the issue. They also comped our breakfast for the inconvenience.

Bedroom right next to the very noisy lift and you could also hear all movement on the room upstairs, so very poor sleep.

The hotel is rather dated and seems to be short staffed. The room was reasonably clean but the curtains had dirty marks on them and the bathroom mirror light needed a new bulb. The breakfast buffet ran out of bacon quickly and the staff had to be asked to replenish. Reception was unattended in the morning when we checked out so we couldn't flag the issues.
