I booked the Guildford House Hotel, but upon checking in I was checked into another hotel 2 doors down.

The room was in the basement, there were no lights in the corridor to the room, the TV did not work. No hot water, the bed whilst clean looked old and tatty, a curtain and net which did not for the window.

Only stay here if you need it for location.

So by London prices my stay was £105 for one night. However I feel that this price was far too high and I’ll list the negatives first.
Room was very small.
Decor was 1980’s and very poor
The kettle was dirty.
The bathroom was very small with shower next to toilet.
There was a pubic like hair on my pillow and what looked like blood spots.
The duvet cover has burn holes
The toiletcistern lid was hanging off
The hot water tap sometimes couldn’t be turned off all the time.
The shower hot water was hard to operate.
There were toenail clippings on the floor.
It is in serious need of upgrade.

Cheap and good location, facilities as expected however, struggled to get hot water for the shower (we were told after we needed to leave the water running a long time.

Staff were not very friendly and made us feel like we were an inconvenience for simply checking in!

Facilities said luggage storage is available, it was but it was just left in the corner of the breakfast room - we appreciated it all the same.

By far the worst thing (and the main reason for low scores and why we will NOT return) was that during our breakfast a staff member cleared his throat loudly and then spat into the bin next to the coffee machine - disgusting ! He then continued to clear tables ! We left immediately!

The carpet was loose, causing us to fall down the stairs. Breakfast was just cereal and toast - fine. The room, curtains were falling down, rusty screws in the bathroom, chewing gum like substances stuck to sink, hand soap empty and fell off the wall, coat hooks on the back of the bathroom door were right at eye level and frankly dangerous, bathroom wasn’t level so water didn’t drain properly after a shower, toilet leaked, hole in bed box, loud buzzer could constantly be heard, tv turned itself on randomly during the night, mouldy pillow in cupboard

Basically drop iur bags and sleep there
10 minutes walk from kings cross station so perfectly handy for us
As we went to wembley and tottenham hotspur stadium for concerts there

It was cheap for london and served a purpose for what we needed it for its perfect tho if you are not staying in the hotel all day like us we literally dropped our bags and slept there
Staff are very friendly as well

Property was in a good area and accessible to the place we wanted to get to and from. The interior of the property is very dated, which didn't bother us, but the room was very small for 3 people, and the bathroom was extremely small. The pictures online of the rooms dont show how dated and small it all is. The room was so warm as well and had no ventilation, really. Cleanliness of the room is also very basic. Not sure we would re-book this hotel again.

First, they charge for Wifi, 2.5L per day.
The bathrooms are coverted closets literally, can barely move.
Breakfast is a joke-stale cereal, some bread and instant coffee.

Be aware!!!

If you are in a budget, this place maybe an option, but I don’t recommend this place to stay, is pretty close from Russell Station(opens at 5:30am becareful), but if you go in summer time be ready to suffer with the head on the rooms, specially the ones on the basement. Please think twice and spend 100$ for something better!

I am very careful about writing negative reviews but what was evident from this property is that the owner only cared about providing the bare minimum or less. You simply cannot make a ‘wardrobe’ from various scrap pieces of wood and a botch it together with 100 screws and think that is acceptable. The carpets were dirty throughout and varied as you walked in colour and pattern. Myself and my son decided within 1 minute we just could not stay there. As per your policy you have kept one nights stay as a charge. That’s ok. Please improve.

Staff were friendly and helpful. My room was on the second floor and two doors down from reception. There was no lift which was a problem for me but staff did help with luggage. There was a deep step up into the bathroom which wasn't clear in the booking information. My room had tea making facilities but no milk. Breakfast was included but this was very basic - a couple of choices of cereal and a loaf of bread to make your own toast

When we booked this hotel, I was under no illusion that it was extremely basic and the room would have 2 Beds plus an en-suite.

I am completely go smacked by how dirty the room was.
The bathroom was dirty with toilet paper blocking the sink, an extremely dirty shower with a build up a limescale, rust and the shower curtain hung in the toilet.
The wiring was exposed behind the TV and one set of lights did not work. The lights above the double bed were covered in rust.
The curtains were dirty and hanging off and on the double bed the bedsheet was visibly dirty and on the single bed the duvet cover was visibly dirty. There was a hole in the wardrobe that looked like a punch mark and an extremely dirty hairdryer and kettle in the room with old coffee sachets and screws mixed together in a basket.

My daughter who has ASD was extremely traumatised by the dirt including the build up behind the radiator and she unfortunately was unable to sleep.

Basic is absolutely fine but disgustingly dirty is not acceptable.

You get what you pay for. The beds were clean and comfortable, the decor is dated and the buildings have a musty smell. The staff were polite and helpful. Breakfast was interesting and certainly not a continental but toast and cereal was available. The area for eating was very cramped and small but tables were cleared quickly and efficiently. Location is very central and very quiet. I would stay again due to the cost and the comfortable beds of the beds.

In all my travels to England over the years I’ve never been in a worse hotel than the Guilford House Hotel. A rating of 5! Should be a 1.
The gloomy room is like a jail cell, toilet and shower like a small broom closet (try toileting and showering in a phone booth), even though advertised for free internet the unfriendly receptionist wanted to charge me, no bed lamp, limited plug-ins, and the whole place stinks. If you expect breakfast, you better like peanut butter on toast with your instant coffee. On leaving I had to walk through a cloud of cigarette smoke at the front door created by the sons of the owners. Great hospitality!

It's very dirty and the quality of the interior is old looking. We also found dirty male underwear in the wardrobe. We booked this hotel last minute as we needed to go to a party and didn't want to stay awake till 5am. I wouldn't recommend it for more than one night.

I wanted no frills, and Guildford House Hotel didn’t promise frills! £50 for a double bed and en-suite from a static caravan next to Russell Square. I’d say the electrical fittings could have been fitted more securely, and the radiator could benefit from a valve you could adjust, but it was functional. The Wi-Fi was poor enough that I resorted to my phone's data in the end, and hot water needs to be run for a little while first, but at that price, the water isn’t staying in the pipes long enough to be a legionella risk.
It does the job, and the business is honest, but this isn't for you if you’re expecting a large, shiny chain hotel with a cooked breakfast in the morning.

The hotel was tired and not maintained, our room was v basic, the sheets were clean but the room felt like it had not been aired and we all slept bad. The bathroom had a bad damp smell, the shower curtain smelt terrible. The breakfast was basic but they had used pots of peanut butter and Nutella out for use which was not sanitary. This was definitely not worth £200 and I'm very annoyed that we paid this money for this establishment.

Lot of people smoking cannabis inside the hotel which smelled really badly with fumes, both in the corridor and in the room. Tried to mention it to the hotel and they basically told me they could not do anything like it is ok to have cannabis smoke throughout the propertly and just to open the window... Room quite dirty and def more of a 1 star hotel. Totally unsafe in general, I was actually shocked to have such a property booked via Expedia.

The hotel was basic, very old fashioned, my room was definitely in need of refurbishment, the curtains didn’t close properly, Noticed some fire doors were perminatly propped open. Unsafe for guests.
Excellent helpful staff, very clean bed linen and white towels, comfortable bed but NO mattress or pillow protectors on bed.
Had to go 2 doors down for reception and breakfast! NOT sure on security in hotel I stayed at only secure card entrance, internet had said 24 hours security, there were some cameras, SO presume they covered both Hotels ! Even though I once went to reception and there was no one there watching these cameras. OVERALL A VERY GOOD CHEAP HOTEL IN LONDON 😊

I didn’t like having to go to one building and sleeping in another building where there was no 24 hour reception. I was put on 4 flight of stairs with no lifts.
The place is a very old house that needs to be demolished. I felt unsafe while I was there. I left at 4:30 in the morning and had no breakfast.
I believe that Camden borough should shut that place down as it seems to be more of a health hazard. I feel that I should get a refund for what I had. Would never go there again.

It is passable, I suppose.
They charge you for poor quality wifi.
The breakfast is stale cereal and bread, instant coffee or tea, and juice. It isn't really worthwhile but I suppose it is something.
They have a 36 hour cancellation policy, presumably instituted because so many people wanted to cancel immediately after arrival.

I was actually given a room in the neighboring Grenville Hotel, rather than the Guilford.

It was a very small single. Furnishings were all in poor condition, the place desperately needs cleaning and airing out. The single-glazed windows did nothing to shut out the city noise anyway, but the smell of damp means you're best leaving it open.

The \"bathroom\" (crammed inside a sodden cupboard) was really grim. Despite following the quirky instructions, I could get no hot water from the tap or the shower.

Its close to chancery lane tube station and has plenty restaurants nearby.

Sadly this place is not fit for purpose! I rarely give a bad review and always try and highlight the good points too but here there just wasn’t any! It was just awful!
We ended up with the family room (still at £256 per night) as booked at short notice which was fine. There were 2 double beds and 2 singles, one of the beds was next to a mouldy wall and the other 2 had dirty pillow cases and sheets so me and my daughter had to share the only bed that was slightly better luckily one of the doubles! The wardrobe we opened and the back had fallen off the doors were broken as was the floor. All the chest of draws had seen better days. There was no toilet roll in what I can only describe as a filthy small plastic caravan shower/toilet. The carpet was so dirty that we didn’t even want to take our shoes and socks off! The sockets kept making loud noises so we had to turn them all off just in case and if we had turn the rusty old lamp on it may well have blown up! I would really encourage people not to stay here as you will be disappointed and then it’s too late! We didn’t bother complaining as the rest of the building looked just as bad so wouldn’t have been anywhere else to go!

Breakfast is cereal, toast with help yourself preserve, jam, marmalade etc, tea/coffee and orange juice.
It was only for one night, as soon as arrived we went out, not returning till 11.30pm and was out again by 9.45am after breakfast.
For 1 night you couldn't complain, was only to rest your head.

Arrived to be given a basement room which was disgusting. Dust everywhere and carpet hadn't been cleaned in a long time. Then we went to look at the en suite bathroom...wow. i wouldnt allow an animal to wash in there....filthy!!!

After highlighting the state we were given another room in the next hotel along and although it was slightly better, still dust and hadn't been hoovered.

It is an insult to charge over £100 per night to stay here....the place needs a power wash. If there is any organisation that is supposed to check hotels....i would visit asap as someone is going to get sick staying here.

The quilt l had cigarette burns in.When we vacated the premises and handed in our key the receptionist was asleep on a quilt on the floor which I thought was very unprofessional. The hotel is in a good location within walking distance of main line rail and underground stations as well as several museums. Staff were friendly and check in was very straightforward. Our room was a reasonable size and the bed was clean and quite comfortable. However, the en-suite was very small and accessed by a very high step which caused some problems. The shower head support was broken meaning that you had to hold the shower. The paintwork in the room was very shabby, faded and marked and there was a significant amount of dust behind the bed side tables and along some of the skirting boards and on the carpet in the corners. Wires and other lumps and bumps could be felt under the carpet. The TV screen and remote control were covered in sticky marks. Breakfast consisted of DIY tea/coffee, apple juice, cheap cereal and even cheaper bread for DIY toast. Other than that it was lovely!

They need major upgrades on this property.
The bathroom was a camp trailer bathroom. The sheets did not look clean and the carpets did not look clean so we kept our shoes on the whole time.

There was a younger gentleman that just did not seem inviting when we came in or asked for extra towels since we had 3 people in the room.

The lady that initially checked us in was very nice and accommodating. She removed the Wi-Fi day charge for us.

OK for a night!

It was fine for 1 night as a solo guest. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Just needed somewhere to shower and sleep after a night out. Room could have been cleaner, hair on the floor of the shower and the walls of the room could really use a wipe down/repainting. Breakfast wasn't great, just a choice of cereal & toast, nothing else! That said, I'd still use again if I needed to stay in that area, good price for August!

I wasn’t happy with the hotel. The area was nice by the train station, but the condition of the hotel needs to be remodeled all over again it’s a old hotel with a small bathroom when I barely can take a shower and the bed needs to be remodeled, look like it has bedbugs. I hope I didn’t bring back bedbugs with me.

The room was very small, bathroom extremely small. The hotel is located on same street as a hospital so it's loud outside most evenings and the room got very hot, difficult to sleep at night. It's walkable to 2 train stations. It's a convenient location but not the most comfortable sleeping conditions

The breakfast was stated as continental. It was not. There was a choice of 4 cereals that was ok. You could have either brown or white bread for toast. There was jam sachets. On three mornings there was cheese slices as well . no cold meats or fruit on offer. We were the first into breakfast most of the time and the water was not hot to have a drink.

Disturbing low standard, in a state of disrepair.

This is the worst place I have stayed in my life and I have stayed in some bad campsites. The first room we were given was in a smelly basement in another hotel along the street. The bathroom was 'portaloo' style. The toilet cistern leaked into the shower area when the loo was flushed and the door couldn't be shut when sitting on the toilet. There was a damp, mouldy patch on the ceiling that had bits crumbling off it on to the bedside table. We went to speak to someone who said we could have another room. I asked if it had a bathroom and was told it did. This one also had a portaloo style cabin in the room. I was desperate for a shower after a long, hot day traveling, but could not face using the shower cubicle. I only slept a couple hours, then left as early as possible. The bed bases are stained, the bedside lights had switches held together with brown tape, the carpet had dirty stains on it, the curtains had something disgusting spiIt on them and the room was strangely hot and stuffy but it was cool outside when we left. I do not think this hotel meets even very basic living conditions. I wish I had slept on the floor at the railway station. The sheets did look clean.

Inexpensive for stay in a very convenient and safe London area. Hotel small, several floors but no elevator, breakfast standard continental of juice/cereal/rolls/coffee. Staff very pleasant and helpful. I would stay there again if we had a room only one floor from the entrance.

Not even in this hotel, was moved next door, Room was covered in dust, bed was falling apart and made lots of noise, furniture falling apart, very tiny bathroom was so tiny that the toilet sink and shower on top of each other, towels dirty, nothing good to say about the place other then the lady on reception was friendly.

The hotel is shabby, but generally clean.
Room was a twin on the top floor, quite small and the floor sloped, so the bed sloped too! Had to move pillows to the other end, so my feet were lower than my head.
Bathroom was small and showing signs of age.

Poor stay at Guildford House Hotel

It’s a cheap hotel but I had one request only - for the TV to work . They could not be bothered even to look at the problem or to change the batteries in the remote. It is as though the guest does not even exist!!

Not bad not good

Cute place but very old. Walls had dust and bathroom was tiny. We had a good time however, and slept great! Staff was wonderful!
