The NYX Hotel in Holborn is a mixed bag, best suited for business travellers who prioritising location over luxury. Situated on a busy junction off Southampton Row, it offers convenience for those working nearby but lacks the quality expected of a four-star establishment.

The decor is bold, featuring neon lights and rooms with black walls and panther eyes on the wall watching over you as you sleep. However, this style doesn’t carry through to the breakfast area, which feels bland and overlooks a grim building. While the staff are nice individuals, they seem to lack professional hospitality training and struggle to make guests feel truly welcome.

Sleep Quality: The beds are firm and the pillow selection is poor, consisting of either very flimsy or rock-hard options.
Noise: Street noise is a major issue. Even on the 8th floor, rooms facing the main road are loud. Booking a room at the back is essential for a quiet night.
Room Features: On the plus side, the rooms are spacious and include an iron. On the downside, wardrobe space is limited, making it unsuitable for long stays.

At £280 a night, I felt the hotel offers poor value. While it has facilities like a pool and rooftop bar, the overall experience lacks charm. For an extra £20 or £30, the nearby Hoxton Holborn is a much better alternative for a cosier and high-quality stay

In the end I didn't stay due to having to collect a friend from the airport but used the room for a few hours, it was comfortable and modern. The pool and steam room were lovely. The room type we booked (twin beds) wasn't available but it wasn't a big deal for a 1 night booking for me & my mum, however they should make sure twins are available or close the option on booking sites once all taken. The staff were nice but check in was painfully slow and disorganised. The price is high but it's central London and the facilities are decent, I would book again as I liked the design and pool

I stayed at Citadines Holborn-Covent Garden London the night before, which is only a few meters away from NYX Hotel London Holborn by Leonardo Hotels. Unfortunately Citadines had no rooms available for the following night, so I booked NYX instead.

The difference in service between the two hotels was very noticeable. At Citadines, the staff made me feel genuinely welcome and went above and beyond to help. The hospitality there was excellent.

At NYX, my experience was quite disappointing. When I arrived before check-in, I was advised to use the spa facilities while waiting. However, I was not informed that the spa showers currently have no water due to broken boiler, which meant there was no way to shower after using the pool. If this had been communicated clearly in advance, I would not have used the facilities at all.

The interaction with one receptionist also left me feeling uncomfortable, as my concerns did not seem to be taken seriously.

Another frustrating point was the breakfast pricing. When booking the room in advance, breakfast could have been added for £14, but at check-in I was told it would cost £24. As a staying guest rather than a walk-in customer, this price difference felt unreasonable.

Overall, it was surprising to experience such a strong contrast in service between two hotels located so close to each other. Based on my experience, I would happily choose Citadines again when visiting London.

I paid £280 for the night. I’ve stayed here quite a bit as it’s very convenient to my office, but it’s not good value. The beds are not comfortable - quite firm and the pillows are shocking. You have two super flimsy pillows and two rock hard ones, whatever combo you have, it’s never comfortable.

If you book here, make sure you get a room overlooking the back. The view is terrible, but at least it’s quiet. If you’re over looking Southampton Row - even on the 8th floor, you’re in for a noisy night.

Room decor is somewhat interesting. All rooms have these weird panther eyes staring at you on black walls with some random black and white pictures in silver frames from the Range.

The room does have an iron and ironing board, limited wardrobe space (so not for long stays) and the rooms are sizeable (redeeming factor).

Summary

If you are in London for business and need a moderately priced hotel then the NYX is an option, but an extra £20-£30 will get you the Hoxton Holborn, which has charm, cosy rooms and a great experience.

The hotel was very stylish and the room was lovely. The spa was great too. However, we don’t have any hot water during our one night stay and we had to complain 5 times before we were given compensation. It was an expensive stay and not being able to shower took the shine off it and we would’ve liked a resolution without so many complaints.

Free popcorn when you arrive whenever you want it a photo machine free I don’t think people realised it was actually there. I had a massive discount of the room. £220 from £280 if it was around the £150 Mark I will be booking his hotel for London lots has you got a swimming pole? Didn’t use it cause I had a cold. But if this hotel was a little bit cheaper I’ll think it will be a winner and look at other hotels in the area but overall excellent

The room was in good condition. However, our room was not cleaned until after 2pm. The fron desk seemed friendly and somewhat helpful.
Whenever we had a question they did seem like it was a problem for then to resolve. Also, whenever there was an issue and they had to consult the manager he was just in his office, the staff seemed as though they wanted to provide the customer service, but the .anager just said NO.
I had very mixed feelings.
The spa staff was friendly enough, after u had a massage and paid for the sevice i asked for a receipt. Noone emailed it, i came back the day before we left and the team was on their way out and the attendant was super rude, because i asked for certin information my insurance asked for. And the attendant that actually gave told us they were going to email me and provide the info i needed was there and denied saying anything. They were all on different pages with their info.

Nice hotel, but our experience was badly affected by a dispute with the reception and duty manager who claimed that our two-night confirmed booking on hotels.com was only for one night, and wanted to charge us an extortionate walk-in rate for the second night. This took an hour for me to resolve and I confirmed with hotels.com that the booking was confirmed. The duty manager eventually accepted this. It was entirely down to the ineptitude of the hotel staff and it was clearly stated to me that they prefer customers to book directly and not through sites like Expedia.

We skipped breakfast so can’t comment on this. Staff were nice and helpful.
We tried to have a drink on the top floor bar but they had a speed dating event on so there was no where for us to sit.
On arrival our toilet was dirty and aircon not working. They did send someone out to sort this.
We were on floor 8 and it was very noisey in the morning with banging around above us.
Made use of spa in the morning, can’t complain other than would have been nice to have somewhere to change. Had to take turns with other people using the one toilet.

- I didn’t feel welcomed on arrival as the first thing that was said to me was asking if I want to pay and extra £40 per night to upgrade. Not the most pleasant welcome.
- It was really hard to sleep as just outside the room was the outlet pipes or something that were so so noisy and there was also a lot of noise from the corridor.
-It wasn’t a particularly warm goodbye at checkout either.

I stayed here for my girlfriend’s birthday, and while the hotel itself looked beautiful and had a nice design, I was quite disappointed with a few things that really affected our experience.

First, I had planned to book a massage for both of us, but when I asked at the spa, I was told there were no available appointments until Sunday, even though the service is advertised as being available daily. We were only staying for one night, so that was really disappointing.

On top of that, the air conditioning in our room wasn’t working properly, it showed a “system error” message. I didn’t want to waste time going to reception, so I just opened the window instead, but it definitely wasn’t what I expected from a hotel of this standard.

Even small details were overlooked, like the tissue box not being topped up, it ran out after just two tissues, which is unacceptable for a place of this level.

On a positive note, the bed was very comfortable, the spa area was nice, and I really liked the overall design of the hotel. But the issues I experienced took away from what should have been a perfect stay. I think three stars is actually quite generous considering the circumstances.

Gorgeous hotel, which looked and smelled amazing on arrival. Room was lovely and very comfortable - one of the best nights of sleep I've had in ages! From the moment we walked through the doors we knew we was going to have a fab stay. We were staying for my hen do and was given a welcome drink before heading to our room, we planned on just leaving our luggage but we was able to access our room from 11am which was a fab bonus!
The room was huge, clean, and had great amenities.
Every member of staff we spoke to was lovely, and we thoroughly enjoyed using the spa facilities the next morning.
We found the location to be brilliant, just a couple of stops on the tube from King's Cross and about 5 min walk from the tube to the hotel. Plenty of coffee shops, restaurants and supermarkets within walking distance.

Firstly the helium 5 0 balloons were not there. But what was were pink balloons scattered on the beat and a pink birthday message. He appreciated the gesture however I’d requested blue balloons. I did email guest services and they did rectify it

The biggest problem for me personally is the noise outside as it is facing the main road in a busy area and the windows did very little sound filtering - so I couldn’t really sleep the night.

The NYX hotel is located in a great area of London. A one block walk south the Holborn tube station, with buses north, south, east, west, right out front. It’s a very walkable and safe area close to the British Museum. It’s pricey for what you get, and staff are somewhat friendly and somewhat helpful. We were out of the hotel long days exploring London and coming back one late night to cleaning staff having left a big garbage bag that they’d collected and forgot to take with them was disappointing. Also the cleaning staff did something to the sink that day when cleaning that pushed the stopper down where the water didn’t drain and we couldn’t fix it ourselves as the pull wasn’t working. So having to wait 45+ mins for a staff member to come look at it so our kids could brush their teeth before bed when we were all very tired from a long day was also disappointing. It was late and we all needed to go to sleep and not be dealing with that. There was also no urgency from the staff and my husband had to go out and flag someone down. It’s a fine hotel and conveniently located but not worth the price. Also don’t eat there. It was extremely pricey for what you got. We had a dinner there that no one enjoyed or even ate but were billed quite a lot for it, and we had a breakfast buffet on our last morning. The breakfast buffet was ok but not worth the price point and no children’s price. Charged for 4 adults and after conversion back to Canadian $ it was definitely not worth it at all

I had stayed in the area before, so I knew it was a super convenient location with a lot of food options nearby, easy walking to shopping and some sights, and great bus and tube options for traveling across town. This was my first time at NYX, and we really enjoyed it. The decor is fun and funky, the staff is lovely, good facilities in the rooms. Will definitely stay again next visit to London.
