I’m currently staying at the Grange Buckingham Hotel in London, and I have to say, it’s a really charming place so far. The room I’m in is massive—much bigger than I expected—and it really exuded a charming old-world elegance, just as I imagined the UK to be, with large windows, rich drapes, and that classic terrace building feel. As an Australian, it really delivered on the vision I had of London. The price is also excellent for what you get—there’s a kitchenette, a large bathroom, and plenty of space.
That said, a few things have cropped up during my stay. Coming from Australia, the room feels extremely cold. I can turn on the wall-mounted heater, but it’s one of those UK water heaters, and it doesn’t warm the room effectively—plus, it keeps switching off, leaving me chilly. The bed is okay, but it’s a bit firm, and the two mattresses pushed together create an annoying gap in the middle. Then, there’s a real cleanliness letdown: although the old charm is wonderful, the bathroom is not clean. The toilet bowl had visible stains, and the shower wall was filthy—mold in the grout, dirt all over. The towel also had a large stain; it was washed, no doubt, but it really needed a soak to remove it. Another letdown—no USB ports or power converters in the room, which is surprising, as even budget hotels usually have them these days.
That said, the check-in was fantastic—warm, professional, and very welcoming. The foyer does feel a bit tired and could use a bit of a refresh

We enjoyed the space of our room for a family of (4). The front desk staff were all so friendly and very helpful. As we arrived the 2nd week of July, in the heat of summer, we were not aware there was no air conditioning in our room and were set up with a mobile fan. Luckily, the windows open and there was a nice breeze, but it was rather old and made the room stuffy. Breakfast at the hotel was great as well- option to choose from an. English Breakfast or Continental with pastries, jams, eggs cooked your way, grilled tomatoes, baked beans, fruit, yogurt/granola and fresh juices and coffee. The location is great, with Bloomsbury Square and the British musuem all within a 2-3 minute walk. Safe, nieghborly and easy to get to dining/etc.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Grange Buckingham more highly. After a day riding electric bikes, it was lovely to return to our beautiful and spacious room, open a cold bev from our kitchenette fridge and enjoy pate' from their dining options before heading out to see theater. The staff were exceptional. The facility lovely and historic. Highly recommend.

Dirty, tired and not very pleasant

Felt like I was transported back to the 1970s with the decor, which is fine I have no issue with hotels decorating themselves however they want... However, the room was dirty, with black mould in the bathroom, soiled bedding and a very tired and unkept feel to everything in the room.

Not a pleasant experience, I wouldn't choose to stay there again.

You get what you pay for. This is an extremely low budget hotel, and for the price, not bad at all. Very central and easy to get around. Nice staff - very pleasant and responsive. Just don't expect any frills or for the shower to work properly...

Booked a triple room and found one bed infested with spiders, crawling insects, inside pillow and under the bed sheet. Requested to change room but was told no other room available. Only managed to change to another room on the next day. The fixtures in the room is very old with a TV that is not working. Shower point is old & dirty with very low water pressure. Hardly able to wash face, not to mention bathing. Will not recommend anyone to this ‘hotel’.

The staff were friendly and very attentive. Small issues that we had (with key, television) were fixed very quickly. Our room was nice and large but the carpet and furniture were starting to show their age. The bathroom was spacious and seemed to have been remodeled within the last few years. Restaurant was located in one of the buildings next door, did not use. The area is within 10-15 minutes walking to many shops and restaurants.

The hotel was very nice. Thankfully our room was ready after our long flight and we were able to check in early! The location was incredible, just a block away from British Museum and very close to the underground. The room was a lovely size for central London but it was tired with peeling paint and wallpaper, fraying on the bedstead, the bath facility was almost impossible to use without being a contortionist, incomplete painting on the bathroom door frame etc. The reception staff didn’t really talk to me nicely and were mostly not there. The Grange is in a perfect and safe location for central London. It's ideal for an overnight stay for business or a cheap city break. There is no dinner service, but an efficient delivery service from local eateries. The room was tired but functional. There was no thermostat so I had to keep the window open to cool the room. The best asset was the attentive and helpful reception staff.

I booked 4 rooms through expedia which at the time of booking was very reasonably priced, due COVID reason 1 room was cancelled within the agreed timescale, nevertheless when I arrived at the Hotel the price per room had increased dramatically for unknown reason which the receptionist was unable to resolve when challenged. The hotel is very dated and visible defects don’t help with the appearance.

The staff service was excellent as they served our needs efficiently for our two night stay. This was by providing clean bath towels and toiletries when needed. Our room was very clean including the kitchenette area. The bathroom shower was okay but it could be better. The breakfast was adequate but improvements could be made for veggie breakfast. Too much diary products in the breakfast instead of a basic English veggie fry up. Overall a very pleasant two night stay.

The bath/shower was high and scary for me to get in and out of. A grab bar or handle would have made it easier, safer and less frightening.

The bathroom had no hooks or towel rods and very little counter space. There was space for a towel rod and hooks and both would have made the bathroom more user friendly.

If not included in your rate the breakfast was expensive.

No air conditioning, we were on the third floor ! we asked for fans, two broke, they did replace them, the elevator broke the first day! None of the rotating staff seemed to know the immediate area or have recommendations for restaurants or sites, the furnishings were very dated and rundown, the second day returned to our room and the bathroom ceiling clearly had been leaking all day! Final straw for us! They did refund our money with no apologies :( Book with caution! “Seems” lovely BUT needs LOTS OF MAINTENANCE!

There is a row of properties on the same block owned by this company. We were upgraded to the Grange Portland and we had an extra sofa, cot and table. Our entire stay was lovely and the room service food was surprisingly good and resonably priced. I'd recommend this property as a great mid-range hotel in a lovely quiet neighborhood.

Beautiful looking hotel from the outside. Our room was in the lower ground level, although the lift button was ‘B’ for basement. Room was a good size but as a basement room there was little natural light and room cleanliness was not great. I loved this property and will definitely return when passing through London. I have nothing negative to say. The location was fantastic — literally around the corner from the British Museum, yet my room opened to the back / interior park area of the block, so it was quiet. Everything in the room was in good repair, clean, and the mattress was comfortable. Staff was extremely professional and friendly. Breakfast was also very good — an extended “Continental” breakfast with hard boiled eggs, meats, cheeses, yoghurts, cereals, rolls, etc. and a fresh pot of tea or coffee. As I was traveling solo, I booked their smallest room (“twin”) and it was very comfortable — the small kitchenette was, perhaps, not necessary, so if they ever remodel the small rooms, I’d recommend a smaller cabinet with fridge and tea kettle, instead of the full kitchenette. A chair or rack for 1 suitcase would be nice instead.

Gorgeous historic hotel, with good sized rooms. Immaculate. Comfortable beds, elegant surroundings and high end amenities. There is a lovely park less than a block away, along with endless restaurants within a block or two walking distance. This is a very historical area, which I found to be safe, and having restaurants, museums, theater and shopping close by. We never had to use cabs or buses.

A bit worried about security for basement rooms as windows are just facing the road hence we only opened a bit at bedtime. First of all we arrived late at night...they told us that our room will be upgraded to executive room and they moved us.....to the basement!!!
Second the room had that smell from old pipes and sewage.
Third the temperature in the shower was working....it was only very hot...
Fourth they told us to check out at 11am. Since I have visited many hotels and the check out was at 12pm...

Lovely Stay at the Grange Buckingham!

The small Grange Buckingham hotel is in a strategically fabulous location and near several little parks, including the historically significant Bloomsbury Square.. The wonderous British Museum is a minute walk away and the West End Theatre district about twenty minutes. Our room was completely quiet and totally dark at night; and with a very flat, comfortable mattress we slept extremely well there. The room came with a closeted kitchenette which allowed us to have breakfast in our room as there is a large grocery store only a few blocks from the hotel. Near this food store there are many nice cafes and restaurants. The hotel is also very close to the underground 'tube' and major bus stops. Staff at the hotel were very professional and quite helpful and our room was made up very nicely and promptly each day. I gave the hotel 4 stars, not 5, however, because the room is very small and the temperature of the flowing water wavered back and forth from very warm to cool during our showers. Note, too, if you have trouble stepping into a bathtub this is not the hotel for you as the sides of the tub are unusually high. Nonetheless, this is a nice hotel in a lovely area of London. I myself would not hesistate to book here again.

Lovely hotel and I loved the location. Bit sad I was in the basement as felt like I had a cheaper room and when I paid £155 for it I felt a bit cheated to be honest. Shower you couldnt use as it had all come off the railings and toilet hadn't had a proper scrub in a long time. Bed comfy and lots of room in the bedroom. Nice microwave very useful. Staff always helpful.
