If travelling alone (and with not too much baggage) then this is a solid potential option if cheaper or at an equivalent price to other hotels in the area. If travelling with other people, then you need to be very comfortable sharing your bathroom habits. And not have any stuff as there's nowhere to put anything.

I stayed in a 'cocoon 2' which is a double room. It's essentially a bed, a space that's about 3 feet wide and a bathroom. And it is one of those dreaded frosted glass wall bathrooms.

The sliding glass door also has a gap around 3 sides, so others in the room can hear and smell everything as well as see your silhouette. For some reason, there's no actual door on the shower so water ends up flooding the entire bathroom and leaking out into the main room underneath the gap unless you do some very careful placement with the small shower mat.

There is no storage space. If you have more than one small suitcase, you will struggle not to be tripping over things.

The room is generally quiet in terms of noise from other guests but you can hear the underground trains constantly, given it's 4 floors underground.

Given the extra charges for things included at other hotels as standard, this can quickly become much less of a budget option than it originally appears. For example, £15 per bag storage fee is ridiculous when other equivalent hotels in the area charge nothing.

The staff were very helpful with check in but the room was very disappointing. There was nowhere for us to put our bags and stuff, just a bed and bathroom, so our clothes were on the floor. The bathroom is practically see-through, right next to the bed and with a big hole in the door. So no privacy at all. I found a long dark hair in my bed and both me and my partner are blonde. The room smelled of fresh paint and with no windows we just had to deal with the smell. It’s a great location and easy stay for one night but doesn’t feel cozy at all, actually more unsettling.

Don't stay here if you want to sleep. The tube trains vibrate the entire room and are so loud you can't sleep while they're running. They stop at 00.30am and start again at 5.45am. Staff were friendly and the room was fine but not being able to sleep in a hotel is pretty basic.

I expected a windowless room, it’s an underground hotel after all, but I wasn’t expecting such a tiny basic furniture-less space with such an overpowering smell of cheap cleaning products. This hotel is fine for an overnight stay in central london but I’d look at alternatives in the area if you’re staying longer. One tiny lift serving both the Reception & accommodation floors so expect to wait. Absolutely everything that it is wrong with modern hospitality boiled down to one horribly appointed space - it used to be a car park and retains all the charm of its previous use

The room was clean and pleasant. Staff all friendly and helpful. The toilet flush was a bit aggressive though! The suction was really loud! We were at the end of the row and the nearby underground tube rumbled every now and then but not enough to wake a light sleeper. The taps and shower also made a weird whistling noise when you turned them off.

The room is quite small. The pipes are very loud and creaky, even when not being used directly by yourself. There is no hairdryer or iron in the room, you have to go to a communal “beauty” room to use - makes you feel like you’re in school. Wouldn’t recommend apart from a very brief one night stay.

Calm, uncluttered room, spotlessly clean, with low lighting and sleek feel. Enough sockets with USB sockets. No storage and a few coat hooks for hanging. Temperature controls in the room.
Comfy bed with fresh bedding, decent pillows and good duvet thickness, though the beds are low to the ground.
Nice bathroom, really good shower, lit mirror, nice toiletries and large, soft towels. The toilet had a really aggressive flush and was occasionally noisy.
There was a beauty and ironing room with lots of mirrors with good lighting and hairdryers along with ironing stations. The reception had drinking water and complimentary tea/ coffee facilities. WiFi was really good, I downloaded episodes of a TV show very quickly and our son played games and videos without issue. Phone signal was poor.
Easy self check-in and check-out(with staff available to support).
There was a smell when first entering the corridors/ room which was a unpleasant but this dispersed. There was some intermittent low level underground rumbling/noise but we only noticed it while we were awake and it did not disturb our sleep.
We would definitely stay again if in the area for a night or two but any longer might be tricky with the lack of storage.

this hotel is in an underground bunker at -4 and -5 from street level. There are no windows and if you turn off all the lights in the room you are in pitch darkness - you cannot see your hand in front of your face - or where your phone is or where the light switch is. This I found truly disturbing and claustrophobic - I think a good suggestion would be to have at least slightly illuminated lightswitches. The rooms are below the underground line and so you can feel and her the underground trains rumbling overhead - if you are a light sleeper this is very disturbing. The toilet flush system is super powerful and noisy. you can hear people flushing there toilets in other rooms. The most unpleasant thing was being charged to leave bags both before and after checkin. Your summary of hotel facilities includes luggage storage but it does not mention that it is paying and GBP15 per bag both before and after checkin. This is the first and only hotel I have ever stayed in where this has been applied - not market practice and very dishonest.

The air conditioning in my room didn't work very well. There was a funky smell in the common areas. I had a twin room. One of the beds did not have any mattress protector and the other one had a stained mattress protector so I slept on top of the duvet.

The best part about this hotel is the location. If you want to be right in the mix, central to all major things/metro this place is great for you. The rooms however are stripped to the bare bones. Someone may call that minimalistic but I would call it skimping. These new budget hotels cut corners for profit. Our room still had marking from the builders during construction. And you could just tell it had never been properly deep cleaned. We had to beg for room cleaning and extra towels. You get what you pay for!

The worse experience I've had in 20 years of staying in London!

I had booked a room at 4:30pm, but upon arriving 8 hours later that day, I was informed that my room was unavailable due to a “maintenance issue”.

I had booked the room specifically because I had an early meeting at Tottenham Court Road the next morning, and needed to be nearby. There were tube strikes so wanted to get into London ahead of time.

Upon arriving at the hotel I was asked to sit and wait for 20 minutes without any information. When I was finally spoken to, I was told that my room was unavailable, but not to worry, we’ve got you a room at another hotel.

However, this hotel was across the other side of London – with no Tubes running, and without being provided any transportation. I was trying to work out how I was going to get there at 1am in the morning when the employee faced me and said “what are you still doing here?”.

There was a total lack of empathy or understanding. I can’t imagine what it would have been like to have left someone vulnerable in that position.

Having finally arrived at the other hotel, I managed just a few hours sleep before having to get up early to make my way back to Tottenham Court Road for an early morning meeting.

Everything went wrong with this hotel. The staff did not care about customer needs and hotel smelled horrible and trash stayed in hallway for two days. We got to hotel and we were told the room we booked was not available, so we were given a smaller room. We asked for extra pillows and blanket three days in a row and never received them. We were told cleaning staff left for the day and no one could help. It was one of the worse hotels I have ever stayed at.

Being underground, the tube trains can clearly be heard regularly passing by so I'd advise ear plugs. Also, the only refreshments that the hotel offers is tea and coffee, however when I arrived they'd run out of milk and the next delivery was due the following day - it hadn't arrived by the time I checked out. (there's a nearby Sainsbury's that the hotel staff could have bought some milk from for customers to be able to have tea/coffee in the interim period before the milk delivery arrived). My booking also stated breakfast was provided however the hotel does not provide this. The room was clean and fulfilled its basic function of providing overnight accommodation.

The man on reception sat me down for it, seemed annoyed that I didn't have photo ID (I've not been asked for this at other Zedwell hotels), and then shouted my room number and how to get there. Only one lift. There was a weird smell in reception. Most of my light swtiches didn't work.

Quiet room

The room was a cool concept and had everything we needed. It was so dark and quiet which meant we got a great night’s sleep however the charge for them to hold your baggage was steep and check-out on Sunday morning was chaos. There aren’t enough lifts to cope with the amount of people checking out and it took a long time for staff to show us where the stairs were as an alternative.

For the price it should be in better condition, all the noises from creaky doors, pipes you can hear turning the night are awful also the tube noice. Excellent location, close to Tottenham Court Road Station so perfect for a trip to Central London.

This place is definitely 'no-frills'. That includes no mattress or pillow protectors. On the subject of laundry, the duvet cover, sheets and towels had many hairs. I know it's been cleaned and didn't matter to me, but perhaps not somewhere for the squeamish.

The communal areas, corridors etc. Smelled very bad. To be entirely frank, it smelled like sewers. Luckily this didn't extend into my room.

The plumbing in my room made very loud and strange noises after running the tap or shower. I hope this didn't disturb my neighbour.

I didn't rate the customer service very highly. I was passing the hotel a couple hours before check in and thought I'd ask if my room was ready on the off-chance. The lady at the desk actually laughed which, even if she'd been asked that question a hundred times that day, wasn't a reasonable response. Upon check out I wasn't asked if I'd enjoyed my stay either.

£15 per bag for left luggage also seems excessive, especially with a relatively early 10am checkout time.

Unlike other reviewers, I found the WiFi acceptable and must have been in a quieter room as I wasn't disturbed by the underground trains at all.

Clean and tidy, compact rooms and 5 levels underground, you'll be surprised. The rooms are quiet and comfortable, if not super spacious.

You might struggle with the floor level beds, which are low but very comfortable once you get to them.

Friendly helpful service at the reception level, but limited signage at the street level entryway. Keep your eyes peeled!

I’ve stayed at several Zedwell locations and I definitely prefer them to this one. You can really, really hear the tubes. And it’s not just every now and then, it’s very regular. If you’re a light sleeper I wouldn’t recommend this one - try the Piccadilly Circus one instead which is much quieter in the rooms and you don’t hear anything from the tubes as you’re not as deep underground as this is. The rooms are on -4 and -5 at this one.

The hotel is in a great location right by TCR station and was perfect for a couple of days seeing shows and exploring central London. The rooms were small but clean, and at night the room is pitch dark which made for an excellent nights sleep. You could hear the tubes running a little bit, but it wasn’t enough to keep us up. Would definitely book again!

The room I got looked nothing like the pictures. The lighting in the room was poor. The shower had black mould abs the floor needed a good clean. Plus there was a funny smell in the corridors and the room. I had the AC on the coldest it would go and still found it too warm at night. The room is very basic and so small I could not leave my suitcase open or I would t be able to get out. So I had to pack it up every day and stand it. Then when you check out, they charge you €15 to leave your bag. I would suggest a hotel is better.

Stayed here for one night, with two friends. We shared a cacoon that sleeps 3. It was an ok stay, easy enough to check in and out yourself, however our rooms air con didn’t really work, so with it being hot it was quite stuffy. The toilet flush was so loud, like the ones on an aeroplane! The beds appeared comfortable but were not, only one pillow each! We could hear the underground tube all night beneath us, so we did not sleep well and the hotel only had one small elevator to go back to ground level. Don’t think this hotel was thought through very well. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone, if they need a decent nights sleep. The only positive was the fact it was round the corner from Oxford street and down the road from the theatre we visited.

Terrible experience ever in London

My recent stay at a hotel (Zedwell Underground Tottenham Court Road) left me feeling extremely dissatisfied. While the first night (August 11) was uneventful, the second night (August 12) turned into a nightmare. At around 11:30 PM, I discovered there was no water supply. Exhausted from a long day of travel, I assumed it was a temporary issue and decided not to report it, especially since I was checking out the next morning. However, at 1:30 AM, the electricity went out! Being in an underground hotel with no windows, I felt trapped and immediately rushed to the reception for help. Although the staff member was somewhat helpful, he needed to contact the manager, who was extremely rude and unprofessional. He offered no greeting or apology and wouldn't even make eye contact with me. When I inquired about my room card, he was dismissive and unwilling to explain. At 1:45 AM, I found myself needing to change rooms with my son and elderly mother in tow. This experience has left me questioning the quality of the hotel and the overall lack of customer service.

ALERT: BEDBUGS

The hotel is well located, a few steps from Tottenham Court Road, which connect three metro lines in the middle of London. It's an underground hotel with (evidently) no window and very, very basic rooms that do the job.

However, the amount of noise is insane. It seems the structure is not well isolated and you can hear what I guess is the water coming down from the pipes behind the walls.

On top of that, the last day of our 4-day stay we saw bedbugs in one of our beds. My wife had several bites during the trip but didn’t realize why until we saw them—at least three, probably more. We informed the management and later at home we wrote to the hotel asking for a reimburse but didn't even receive any reply from them.

We had to throw away a lot of our clothes and suitcases, and once we got home, we had to pay for a pest control inspection just in case. What seemed like a regular (because it was not necessarily cheap) stay turned into an expensive and stressful one.

We contacted the hotel but never got a reply. We really regret staying here and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

Truly terrible.

This is one of the worst hotels i’ve been to in a long time. There isn’t a chair, a table, or a closet on your room. The bed is uncomfortable. There are no amenities. Also, it feels really creepy and the staff surely didn’t help with that. This is a hostel, not a hotel. Also, I could hear the trains all night next to me. The staff were not friendly and did not make me feel great about sleeping in a dungeon. I felt borderline creeped out.

Also, i arrived 45 min before check in. They told me I had to pay 50 pounds to check in early or 15 pounds PER piece of luggage to store it for 45 min. Even my small shopping bag! They charged me the same to store it for an hour post check out which is so early at 10am! I hate this hotel.

Avoid this hotel if you're expecting basic amenities. Despite charging upwards of £200 per night, this hotel lacks essential furnishings such as a chair, table, wardrobe, hair dryer, and iron. The room includes only two beds, four bath towels, and one small towel—nothing more. There are additional charges for early check-in, late check-out, and even luggage storage.
One major concern is the inconsistent fee waivers, which appear to be applied based on nationality or race. This is deeply troubling and reflects poorly on the management.
The bathroom design is also impractical—no sliding doors mean water easily spills onto the floor, creating a mess.

We arrived early so decided to go to drop the bags off at the hotel since we were too early for check in. We got told we were unable to check in early however the group of girls next to us just got checked in and let to their rooms. After asking if i could leave the bag at the hotel until we checked in I got told there was a £15 charge just to leave a bag in a room which i found completely ridiculous and if i knew this i probably would not have booked this hotel as it is an absolute scam and does not state this anywhere in the description. We came to check in and there was flies in my sink in the bathroom and on the roof so went up to reception and they did give me a different room no hassle but they did not seem bothered at all about it nor an apology. I work in a hotel and stayed in many and never once have i come across fees to leave your bag somewhere or the staff to seem so unbothered by a complaint. However the rooms are just as shown and bed is very comfortable. There is not much noise or bother when your in the room. There are plugs right above the bed which is very handy and a light switch. I would probably not stay here again just because of the reasons stated above and for £600 for 2 nights i would expect a little bit more friendliness and consideration when complaints are brought up.

Had 2 rooms for 3 nights. One room the A/C didn’t work, and the other had bed bugs. I spoke to 3 different managers on duty and best they would do was put on clean sheets in one room and a fan in the other.

Asked to at minimum comp my $40 for early check in that was charged, but nothing.

Other than the location being great, nothing else is worth the stay.

I’ve never left a negative review but felt this one was necessary to do.

Fine for 1 night, no frills!

Had a 1 night stay with my wife, location is great for the theatres and shopping. The only thing I would complain about was that the beds are on the small size and I should have asked for extra pillows. Wouldn’t stay for more than 1 night… but for a place to sleep and that’s all, you could do a lot worse!

My daughter came in with serious jet lag and I kept misplacing my key card (or forgetting to bring the card when exiting my room😬). The staff members were gracious each time I went to get another key card. Polite and courteous behavior every time I interacted with them from the front desk to the cleaning crew. The price was also about 1/3 the amount compared to neighboring hotels. Lastly, how cool is it to be 5 stories underground

Too deep underground for comfort! My bed was really uncomfortable too and realised in the morning that the mattress was upside-down… I.e. someone had fully made the bed with the bottom of the mattress facing up and the mattress topper underneath.

The hallways to the rooms had a rather unpleasant smell, but the rooms themselves were nice. Spacious and comfortable, got the job done. You might hear a few rumbles from the underground railway passing by, or creaks and squeaks from what may be the plumbing. Since it’s underground, you will have no sense of time. But if your goal is to simply have somewhere to freshen up and sleep right in the middle of the West End, this is the place to be!

This was an interesting property to say the least. I didn’t like the fact that because it was underground, I had no cell service. But, I especially didn’t like the lack of amenities and space in the rooms. The air conditioning did not work, and upon my arrival, the people who greeted me weren’t the friendliest. Overall the room served its purpose, but the stay was not enjoyable

Just a bed, toilet, sink and shower.

The reception is 4 levels down, the chap lacked personality and warmth. The room was 5 floors down. You could hear quite a lot of strange noises I can only put down to plumbing? The room was a bed (not uncomfortable but very low), and a bathroom. It felt a little like a clean new prison cell with obviously no window being 5 floors underground.

Good location but constant rumbling from nearby underground lines.

This is a very basic hotel, with no more than a bed in the room. I expected at least a chair, a bin, or a table - but there was nothing except a bed and some earplugs (thankfully).

At nearly £200 per night this is very poor value for money. It was fine for a last-minute 1 night booking, but I wouldn't want to stay much longer. Being four storeys underground didn't feel safe and the rumbling/vibrating from the underground was incredibly annoying. Comfortable bed and good shower, though.

Didn’t like the room - it’s so tiny, no space to put anything, dingy and claustrophobic. Only one elevator for the whole hotel, and staff weren’t helpful about keeping the room clean. Would not recommend staying here. Great location but not nice inside.

Great location, close to Tottenham Court Road underground station.

The room was extremely basic. There was only a bed and there was no desk, chair, wardrobe or bedside table. There were no tea or coffee making facilities in the room and there wasn't a hair dryer in the room. I expected much more from a hotel in central London.

You could hear the underground, but that didn't cause any problems during the night. As the name suggests, this is an underground hotel, so there are no windows.

Upon arrival, (before our check in time) it wasn't pleasant. The lady behind reception was quite blunt with us and didn’t seem very enthusiastic in her job. We had to pay £15 charge for them to hold our suitcase until check in time.
Our room had dust and flies in it.
The bathroom was not very private… big gap when sliding door shut, can see my family while sat on toilet. When getting undressed…body figure is visible through glass.
When flushing the toilet, the noise is so loud, I refrained from flushing during night, I didn’t want to wake my family up!
We had the sound of the tubes running over us throughout the night..not a very good sleep at all. We were provided with just one pillow each.
The thermostat in our room wasn’t working so my daughters were cold.
The checkout time is 10am… we got back to our room at 10.02am and we were locked out of it. They didn’t tell us that we would be locked out of our room if we were a few minutes late checking out.
This was our first time at Zedwell Underground hotel and sadly it will be our last, we will not be returning.

The Zedwell was an extremely comfortable stay, location was incredible. It is interesting being underground and hearing the tube running above you. Can feel a little bit claustrophobic at times but overall would return!

Check in was fine, our room was basic but that’s what we expected however the AC barely worked, we only had one pillow each and the bed was hard. It’s good if you want a place to sleep and that’s it, but bring a pillow! There isn’t anything in the room about how to get more pillows or anything, overall very basic.

Never been to the prison but I had that experience and the other experience my partner and I had he opened the front door midnight he was confused he thought he’s going to the toilet, but he was on the hallway door gone locked behind him he was naked on the hallway until Security came and let him in to our cell 😁 never laugh like that in my life
