Really great staff and really spacious (by London standards) clean and trendy rooms. The bar and restaurant spaces were booked for private events both evenings of our stay and were a bit noisy but we were warned at check in and the hotel have made attempts to install sound proofing for the rooms. Ultimately I would recommend a stay here.

The mandrake is an exceptional hotel, the interior decor is innovative and inspiring for creatives, with beautiful contemporary artwork, and installations, every floor is decadent glamour, there are quiet areas also and you feel like you are not in the centre of London but in a lush tropical location. The food is tasty, as well as the bar area with iconic cocktails. The staff are very friendly and hospitable, we loved our stay there and will return soon

Bill was £200 more than indicated on Expedia. Room was directly by a bar area, which had a full view into the room. The location was actually an upgrade, not clear why. Cleaners were on the terrace at 6 in the morning talking and waking us up.

The penthouse was battered and tired

Booked into the penthouse which is in need of a refurbishment. The jacuzzi was out of order which I wasn’t told about until I got to the room, the door handle to the room itself was hanging off the door, the fittings in the bathrooms were loose, the paint around the room was chipped and battered in places.

I was offered a 20% discount once this was pointed out but I had generally expected better.

Front desk was often not staffed, yet the hotel requires you to leave the rather large keychain, key and lift fob at reception, leading to long delays getting to the room. Noisy as DJ plays downstairs most nights until 1am. Room not sound proof.

Unusual but lovely

Quite an unusual ‘nightclubby’entrance and hotel theme. Very dark but fun.
We had a suite that was perfect, light clean comfortable. Coffee machine, bathrobes, good bathroom amenities,king bed. Unusual selection in the ‘mini bar area’. It was a hot day but room was lovely. and cool.
There was music until 1am apparently but we didn’t hear it in our first floor room. Very quiet.Breakfast was fantastic although due to a brand new system it was extremely slow…needs sorting out.

It turns into a nightclub at night (this was a Saturday). You cannot have a seat and get a quiet drink at your own hotel bar, you need to queue up behind drunk 20 year olds and deal with bartenders with bad attitudes.

My stay at The Mandrake in London was truly an unforgettable experience. From the moment I arrived, I felt as though I had stepped into a fantasy world. The hotel’s moody vibe perfectly complements its location in the trendy Fitzrovia area, creating a unique and immersive environment.

The room was nothing short of luxurious, with high-end furnishings and a well-stocked minibar that made my stay even more comfortable. The en suite bathroom was a dream, featuring a rainfall shower head that added a touch of spa-like relaxation to my daily routine.

The greenhouse terrace and central courtyard are absolute showstoppers, draped in hanging jasmine and passionflowers that infuse the space with a captivating fragrance. The rich textures, vibrant dark colors, and theatrical lighting throughout the hotel made every corner feel like a work of art.

The amenities at The Mandrake are exceptional. The restaurant on site served exquisite dishes, and the bar was the perfect spot to unwind after a day of exploring the city.

Interesting hotel, the decor is terrific and the staff very helpful. Sitting in the bar area there were so many people coming into the hotel and disappearing into various out of sight rooms, had no idea what was going on but it made it all the more intriguing..lighting is very ‘ambient’, tripped a couple of times in the corridors (I do wear glasses), got lost coming out of the lift on wrong floor, and took me several minutes to get the door to the room open with the strange key lock mechanism.

Lovely Full-English breakfast.

All in all, certainly a different kind of place to stay in central London and will probably stay again.

Dissapointing experience.

Over the weekend, the Mandrake transforms into a bar/club with accommodations situated above it. Unfortunately, our stay was marred by subpar service and a lack of attentiveness, exacerbated by concurrent events on both Friday and Saturday nights. Prospective guests should exercise caution and verify event schedules during their stay, as hotel guests do not receive preferential treatment over walk-in bar customers. It is advisable to secure a reservation for a table in the bar in advance.

The staff's performance left much to be desired; they engaged in unnecessary disputes, such as contesting the absence of a bottle opener in our room instead of promptly providing a replacement. Furthermore, I encountered difficulties gaining entry to the bar on two occasions due to wearing an outdoor coat and hat in frigid -2°C weather.

Our experience in the Terrace room was underwhelming, considering its petite size relative to the associated cost. Additionally, the absence of room service for food further detracted from the overall appeal of our stay.

We will not be returning.

Putting the record straight

Stay was fine , slept like a log in the big bed , English breakfast was good quality ingredients, eggs were clearly free range

After making the booking I read the reviews, which were mixed , which made me a little concerned …. As we generally only stay in 5* hotels , and don’t normally feel a need to leave a review as they are what you expect

However on this occasion I feel that it is only right that we comment

The hotel is privately owned and a one off boutique, which is decorated in all areas with original one off furniture and fine art , it is NOT your usual travel lodge magnolia blandness . There is even live music in the later part of the week evenings

The staff were welcoming, taking our bags to our rooms and showing us around , the lady who checked us both in and out also explained before checking in, that if we were to wanted complete quiet in our room towards the end of the week she would choose our room carefully for us

We have already decided to stay at the mandrake when in London next month

P.s. if you want to stay a in a hotel with character stay here , if not … not book it

Worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in

This is not a 5 star hotel by any stretch of the imagination. It was dirty, smoky and old, and attracted some of the most undesirable people in London. Music was blaring all night on Friday and Saturday and they left me a nice little inexplicable charge on my credit card after I left despite the fact, I did not order anything at all during my stay there. In fact, even if I wanted to order some thing it would not be possible because the phone never worked in the room. Horrible place.

I was not aware that this hotel is an “adult party” hotel. There is paraphernalia in the rooms and the rooms are small and unappealing. If you are into adult partying etc, that’s great but it would have been nice to know that was the theme of the hotel.

Atrocious stay. Zero sleep. It’s a nightclub with rooms and management don’t care about it. Wish we’d read the reviews first. Other people leaving the hotel saying the same at reception. There seems to be a standard script - because what we were told and what we were offered mirrored the previous reviews (not to mention promises reneged on too). Absolutely the worst hotel decision I’ve made in years.

Unique and immersive experience? If that means loud music all night, terrible service, small rooms with tacky decor and a broken bathroom door then I would agree. It was not what I was looking for from a ‘luxury’ hotel stay. Book with caution. Live DJ at the weekend and the bar gets packed. They need to decide if they are a hotel or a nightclub. Our room was directly above the DJ booth, despite telling reception that we had booked for a night away from our baby we had to move rooms as it was so loud. We had a tiny bathroom with a sliding door that was wedged open and wouldn’t close. The bar service was not what you would expect from a luxury london hotel, or a Soho bar, they didn’t even wipe the tables. Not worth the money.

Amazing hotel if you’re partying! If you’re looking for a quiet, relaxing stay book elsewhere. We booked to stay over after a wedding and joined their epic Halloween Party which continued until 3am. If we’d have tried to sleep any earlier it would have been impossible as the room 3 window over looks the DJ box. There was also no outside window so no natural light, despite this being advertised as a ‘light room’. It fit the purpose but would not stay again unless we were partying.

Hip spot with mystique, but price is perhaps a bit hyped unless you really want to take advantage of the cool bar and restaurant scene. Rooms are tiny but quiet (in terms of street noise) and dark which was nice after a long flight—however, you can hear voices easily in the hallways and our neighboring guests were rudely loud and drunk in the wee hours, speaking at very loud volumes in the hallway.

Bed was ok, shower was amazing! Shower was probably the best part.

Breakfast was ok, nothing memorable and a simple menu but the English breakfast was satisfying. However, the waitress told us the 5 pound orange juice was fresh squeezed but it was absolutely not, it was from concentrate.

The front desk staff, porters, and room service staff were very cordial and friendly and we appreciated their service.

However if you are looking for a quiet peaceful place to stay on a weekend this is not the hotel for you. The main entrance and bar area by reception turns into a club with DJ playing loud music until 1am and we had to request a room move at 11:30pm as we could not get to sleep. The night manager was very accommodating and moved us, but it’s not what you want when you are ready for bed.

We stayed at the mandrake for 1 nigh get away. Check-in was smooth and our Expedia Gold status was acknowledged and we received 2 free drink vouchers (which turned out to be £15 per person).

The room was fairly small but was well appointed and spotless. Food and drinks were quite expensive but very good.

Overall the stay was good but the hotel is pretty pricey and I'm not sure it has all the amenities to justify the cost.

The hotel was beautiful with gorgeous rooms. We had an issue with the outside terrace. There was a very lax attitude to Covid regulations. Many of the staff were not wearing masks. They had masks around their necks but not covering their faces. A few guests requested them put the masks on, the staff would oblige and then just remove them. We also had coffee on the terrace the following morning and had the same issue. Also the entire staff were hugging for a group photos on multiple occasions. The hotel itself was stunning but they need to work with staff to implement the guidelines.

Our stay was great until we wanted to sleep on Saturday night and the DJ was playing. It was thumping in our room and smelled of cigarettes so strongly we couldn’t sleep. It’s a little strange trying to get into the hotel past the bouncers when you’re staying there but otherwise, the hotel was great.

Was there during Halloween week. They had an amazing party at the hotel. It turned to a night club. Was first given a noisy room despite being very specific before arrival and in an email that I want a quiet room. Thankfully, they found me a better quieter room that also happened to be a bit more spacious although still quite small. The big advantage for us was the location of the hotel. The staff was pleasant overall.

Charged \"deep cleaning\" (150 quid) on last day because I had, apparently, at some point left my room in an insufficiently clean state.

I never did so.

I was advised I could ask the \"accommodation manger\" for more information if I wished. I did wish, but since my flight left in the next two hours, I was not given the time to fulfill my wishes.

As soon as any ostensible affront to hotel cleanliness is reported by the cleaning staff, it should be communicated to the alleged delinquent, who can then discuss the transgression with the hotel administration. To leave this to check-out time is unacceptable and smacks of the lowest of scams.

This last-minute add-on of expenses has only been equalled in my experience in Bucharest where they charged me bogus mini-bar expenses as I was checking out.

Lovely space & staff but there are better options

Overall the hotel was a fun experience. Although I’m not sure we’d stay here again. I LOVED the greenery but sound carries easily and early morning/late nights can be annoying with normal activity from the restaurant. The staff is lovely and beyond accommodating. Charlie is a star and was always going above and beyond. There systems seem to not be connected which is very frustrating as a guest. I had housekeeping banging at my door at 11:05 telling me I missed checkout when my account had a guaranteed late 1pm checkout. Another hiccup at checkout when they claimed I had a balance from the restaurant when I paid at the bar at the time of dining. Again, little deals but pretty frustrating for a traveler.

We stayed in the Newman Rooms for our anniversary. Beautiful, spacious, clean and quiet. Only issue is there is no hairdryer capability in the bathroom and no coffee or tea kettles. Loved the greenhouse and the warm and friendly staff. They are incredibly knowledgeable and helpful with recommendations. We will be back.

Look after from the moment we arrived until we left. All staff were extremely friendly and caring. We intend to use the Mandrake as our hotel of choice when in London.

Mysterious and exclusive hotel

Absolutely fabulous. Came to London for sights and fun, this hotel delivered. Everyone was welcoming and lovely to speak with. The staff made every accommodation and went above and beyond to insure we felt special. Made tons of friends in the bar every night, great exclusive scene. Love the eclectic decor and cool art. Or room was spotless and filled with every necessity. Only ate at the restaurant only once but it was a 5 Star meal. The morning coffee and tea were perfect as were the gluten-free options. Already thinking of a return. Highly recommend this sexy little hotel.

This is a boutique hotel, a term that always puts me on my guard, but they do an excellent job. The very best part of the hotel is the restaurant. It is like being on an exotic vacation to eat in the restaurant. I recommend the hotela nd the restaurant.

The property is trendy and nice. The staff are great! The breakfast is incredible, absolutely incredible! It was the best food we ate in London!
The room we were in was very dark, that made it difficult to get ready during the day. The bar only has one type of beer, but it's a full service bar. Also only one size. A pint of beer was available everywhere but at our hotel. Aside from that, everything was GREAT!

Lovely little hotel, great location

Staff were very helpful, the breakfast was cooked to perfection.
Will definitely stay here again when visiting London.
The room was comfortable and clean.
The only constructive suggestion I would make is the addition of tea/coffee making facilities in the room.

Gorgeous, avant garde hotel with helpful staff. Hotel grounds and lobby like an exotic oasis that transports you to another time and place. Highly recommend this hotel for travelers looking for a unique and trendy hotel in a great location.

Cool and funky in London

Our stay at the Mandrake was exceptional!The hotel was created by way of a complete renovation of a building built in the mid 1800's.It's probably the most funky,unique hotel we have ever stayed at.The pictures on hotels .com do not do justice in comparison to actually being there.The staff are amaising and only add to the ambience.Definitely book with the breakfast included as with most places in the area meals are expensive.The place really gets hoppin on a Saturday night where crowd watching is great entertainment.Its only a 10 min walk to the SoHo district where there is plenty of food and entertainment to choose from.If your in London it's a must stay even if it's just for a night!

Chic Boutique Hotel in Excellent Central Location

The Mandrake was in a great area - super walkable to Oxford Street, Soho and more. Hotel itself was super cool with a great vibe - the guest only bar area on the second floor was a great place to hang out. Highly recommend.
