The hotel is very nice andxa great location for sight seeing, close to the tube and buses, Also great for theatres galleries and restaurants all walking distances.
The room was clean and functional however very basic. No tea/coffee making facilities. The shower was good very hot and good pressure, but no toilet brush which would b helpful. Also no fan in the bathroom so very hot, an aircon unit in the room which wasnt very good, room extremely hot. Extra pillows provided which was good.
We asked for more toilet rolls which did not materialise. .

Check in was hectic at 3pm, as it is self serve via a bank of iPads. A member of staff helped me to program my room key, as the one I did failed to open room door.
Found a member of housekeeping on 4th floor to ask for extra pillows. Room small and old, but I had only booked the basic rate. Others were available at a premium.
Used Hudson bar on day 1, then VQ bar for breakfast on day 2. All staff were delightful.
Only slight problem was that the lifts always seem to take ages to come when waiting in the lobby.
Perfectly situated for west end shows, no transport required.

We had a deluxe room. When we arrived there was not any milk on the hospitality tray. We asked at reception and were told they did not have any available! The next day we asked if we could have the room serviced and we were told you had to request this. So we asked if they could note that we would like our room serviced. This did not happen at all during our 3 night stay. Not impressed.

This was the single-worst hotel experience I have ever had. Ever, in life, and I'm a 45-year-old man. I rarely ever bother to provide a review of anything, but I feel like it's my sworn duty to warn people about this place. The room was subpar even by cheap roadside motel standards. The entire space looked like it had been assembled from Ikea furniture. The bed mattress looked and felt like something that had been taken out of a dumpster. There was no AC in the hotel, which was brutal during record-high May temperatures in the UK. The window would only crack open due to safety measures, and even then, I had to decide between leaving it shut and suffering the heat, or opening it and dealing with the insane noise outside that carried on until 3 a.m. I had booked this room for 2 nights, but it was such a miserable experience that I just ate the cost of the second night and moved to another hotel. It was very misleading because the lobby of the hotel is extremely nice and modern. Do yourself a favor and never go anywhere near this dump.

A centrally located hotel with easy access to the attractions in central London.

The lobby was hot and very busy on a late afternoon in June. The self check-in process was smooth, but my room key card wasn't programmed correctly. Having queued for a lift and wheeled my luggage to the furthest room on the floor, it was frustrating to need to return to Reception for a working key card.
The Reception staff were helpful in arranging a later, separate check-in for my companion.
The twin room was comfortable, with effective but noisy air conditioning.
We didn't pay extra for the buffet breakfast; there are many breakfast options nearby for a busy traveller.

Be aware that there is a £10 charge for left luggage.

This hotel was perfect as a base for activities in central London. Very convenient for tube stations, shopping, restaurants and West End shows. Check in done by guests on tablets, but hotel staff readily available to help. Staff all pleasant and helpful. Room spacious but a little soulless. Clean and comfortable.

Agree with the other reviews. Would give zero stars if possible. Double charged me for an early check in and are now not responding to messages or answering the phone. The message facility on their website doesn't work either. Rooms are small and basic, but OK for one night. The service is shocking though. Avoid.

This is a budget priced hotel just steps from Oxford Street and Tottenham Court Rd tube station. Check in was 3pm but my daughter and I arrived round 1pm and for £20 were able to avail of early check in and get into our room. Check in was fast and automated with a staff member on hand who printed our key cards for us. Room was on the small side but perfect for what we needed as we were really only in it to sleep in it. Basic but clean, great dressing table/mirror area, TV, hairdryer and safe. The room had good AC which was great as it was very warm during our visit. Bathroom again was small but clean and perfectly adequate for our needs. Our only niggle was how long to get and to use the lifts, they are very busy and often stop at nearly every floor, we were on floor 10 so if you are pressed for time allow an extra 10 mins to get one and get down to reception. Any staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. All in all for the price this is a great, centrally located, excellent option for a basic budget stay in London, however if you want extras like toiletries and tea/coffee making facilities then other hotels which will cost more are available and may be more suitable for you. We were very happy with our stay and will use STG again.

This was one of the worst hotels I stayed at in London. For the price you can get much better accommodations. I’ll start with the good things as it is only one: the location, it was the only good thing about this hotel. The elevator barely worked, they had 3 but only 1 was working for the 2 days I stayed there. Often I ended up taking the stairs because of the line of people waiting for the elevator, my room was on the 3rd floor.
The bathroom towel was sorry I could see black stains on it. The room advertised a city view but it was one measly window. The check in was self service where u have to scan your own card, I needed some help from the staff and he was condescending when helping. I overheard a couple of staff arguing with each other and a senior staff was comparing a certain situation that happened in the hotel and making a negative comparison of that situation to Bangladesh, I am from Bangladesh so I was offended by that. The room service was offered every 4 days which meant mother was cleaned during my stay there as it was only 2 days. There are often homeless loitering around the front of the hotel even during early evening time. Overall I would never stay here again.

The staff in the lobby were helpful and friendly, the location was excellent for the west end. The room was quiet in terms of traffic noise. the lifts were not very efficient, the beds were very squeaky and creaky but not too bad for comfort.
The air conditioning was good. There is a fridge in the room which was also an unesxpected bonus.

It’s one of those hotels that is now very dated and was probably still dated 20 years ago. No aircon so not ideal during the summer but room had a fan tbf. Check in was annoying. We looked to check in 1h early annd told to either pay £20 for early check in or £10 per item for storage and come back in 1h. No flexibility and staff refused to budge. First impressions stick so avoid. Did not do breakfast as £18 pp as that’s a crazy price. Overall, room was clean and tidy but avoid due to severe ageing and terrible check in.

Great location. Most standard hotel services come at an additional cost (daily room cleaning, luggage storage) but, if you know that ahead of time, then you’re not surprised upon arrival. I’d recommend staying here. The air conditioning was great during May’s heatwave. The renovated room was also a big plus.

I arrived at this hotel and while check in was super and easy, with a helpful member of staff on hand to support, when I got to my room I was shocked and disappointed at the state of it. A huge dehumidifier was taking up most of the empty floor space and was noisier than a pneumatic drill; clearly there had been some kind of horrific leak. The carpet was still dirty and damp, the smell was horrible and there was a used dirty bath mat on the floor in the bathroom. The bathroom did appear to otherwise be clean but the overall state of the place - other than in public entrances - is in disrepair. I’d warn against staying here or check the state of the room you’ve booked before you arrive.

Not a bad room for the price, clean enough, just a few negative points- no tea/coffee in room which I was surprised about, the ensuit floor had puddles of water when using the shower. My main issue was waiting around for the lifts for 5+ minutes only for it to be full and can’t get in and then wait for it to go then press call button again and wait another couple of minutes to squeeze into the next one.

The pipe in the toilet broke. So our bathroom began to flood. We asked if we could be moved to a different room immediately. Instead, we were told to remain in our hot, smelly and flooded room while the maintenance guy took a look. And then after that, we were able to get a change into a significantly smaller room. We’d like a discount or a refund for the second night at the very least.

As soon as I opened my room door, I was smacked in the face with a stale musty smell. I was able to open the window as it was warm which helped. The plumbing in the shower kept making awful noises, even when not being used, and the actual shower head didn’t fit in the bracket very well, and kept falling off. My room wasn’t made up between the 2 nights I stayed. It was very disappointing.

Stayed at this hotel numerous times in the past due to the location and the value for money. Turned up yesterday and you now have to pay £10 per bag if you want to use luggage drop off. I paid extra for an upgraded room which was smaller than a cupboard, dated, and the air conditioning unit was so loud we couldn’t have it on overnight (on the hottest weekend of the year so far). Also no tea and coffee in the room any more….what the hell is that all about? Will never stay here again

While the location is perfect, the hotel lacks security upgrades. STG has been my go-to hotel for over 20 years. However, lacks appreciate security measures. An individual could potentially walk off the street right up to the room. The room door remains without additional security measures.
The self check-in is an upgrade in technology with supportive personal for thouse who may experience challenges. This however appears to be the only visible improvement.

Check in not very efficient. Have stayed at this hotel several times but this has now changed names and been rebranded and taken over by a different company. Intent checking desk to be told to go to self check in. I had to ask for help which the staff did help but wasn’t very clear

We have stayed at this hotel a number if times and it seems to have gone downhill!
Queues for breakfast, no longer tea / coffee in the rooms, only one towel and pillow…everything now stripped down to basics…

Also self service check in …so no more friendly meet and greet. Didn’t feel like a guest anymore.

Even though it is an excellent location will probably look for somewhere else in the future.

Original \"classic twin\" room was dated and musty smelling. Nothing like what's pictured on the website. After complaining was offered the \"signature twin\" but had to pay the difference. No wash cloths, no hand towels. 24 hour restaurant doesn't open until 7AM. 10 pounds per bag to hold luggage when everywhere else we've stayed offered for free.

The hotel is in a good location, convenient to access the Underground or just walk to many places in London. The double room is not big, but worked for two people. The hotel was busy, and getting space in the lifts could be a minor challenge.

While I understand a policy of only changing linens every four days, and providing clean towels upon request, this is where the hotel failed to meet basic expectations. We stayed nine nights, and the linens were only changed after the eighth night. By that time, we had no expectations of any change of linens.

The garbage was never picked up, despite having made multiple requests at the front desk. We resorted to leaving a garbage can outside of the room in the morning, and when we returned in the evening, the empty can was left outside the door.

We were able to get toilet paper and fresh towels upon request, so the only major negative was the failure to clean the room.

I don't know if you need to request a remote for the television, but there wasn't one in the room, and we didn't need to use the TV.

I was shocked how this hotel has changed for the worse. £10 per luggage item for storage is a rip off. Never had to pay before. Also £20 for a check in earlier than 3pm when the room is ready is also a rip off, so you get charged either way unless you want to carry your luggage with you.
Room facilities were shocking - one capsule of milk, no hand towels and electric sockets that were intermittent working.
This definitely is not as good as it used to be and we have stayed here many times. Even the 'Hudson's bar' has gone from a sumptuous cocktail bar to a poor and expensive bar with tacky stools and tables and shocking service - not like it used to be. Will will not be back!

I have stayed many times at this hotel as it's convenient to where I occasionally work. One of the reasons I always went back was because it's staff were so helpful. Unfortunately they have now installed a tablet check-in system and reduced the no. of check-in staff. In my opinion this has had a detrimental effect on the check-in experience - especially problematic if you were checking in at the same time as a large group.

There are other hotels offering a more personalised service where you're able to speak with real people. I will certainly be seeking these out in future.

This hotel is an excellent location for Central London. It was a couple of minutes walk from Tottenham Court Road underground Station.

The foyer was lovely and I liked that you could check yourself in.

The lift was so slow, we ended up walking up the stairs to get to our floor.

All the corridors look the same and there wasn't too much in the way of signs to point you in the right direction.

The room was OK, it could definitely do with a revamp it felt a bit drab. The beds were comfy but only had 1 pillow on each bed, when we asked for more pillows there were none to be found. How can a hotel not have extra pillows.

The window had a venetian blind on the inside which you couldn't get to so it was open all night, letting in the light from the street lights.

There were no plug sockets by the beds.

Everything just felt very dated.

This is a hotel that you would book only for the location. Walls are thin, rooms are very tiny (can't even open a suitcase on the floor), there is only a hanging bar for a closet and there is no dresser, just a couple of open shelves beside the desk so I had to keep some clothes in the suitcase which I didn't have anywhere to store out of the way either. The bathroom and shower literally could not be any smaller because there wasn't even room for a door that opened into or out, only a sliding door. My showerhead kept falling off and hitting me in the head even though I informed the hotel on the first day. There is no teapot/coffee pot or any robe/slippers and there is not even a telephone. They only took out the trash and brought a clean towel on the 5th day (I left the next day). I later learned that I could request someone to come and take out the trash, but there is no phone so you have to download an app to do so. They charge for everything. Room is ready and you are an hour early for checkin? Still 20 pounds. Want to instead have them hold your luggage (even though the room is ready)? That will be 10 pounds for each bag. Want to have them clean more than every fourth day (check-in day doesn't count toward that by the way)? That will be another 25 pounds. You get the idea. For those of you who are familiar with Motel 6 in the US, it is similar. The location is handy, but I am afraid that was the only pleasant feature.

The staff was very friendly and the location perfect, which is why we are 3 times returning customers. However, the new management decided to charge a fee of £10 per item for storing our luggage. They also charge £20 for early check in now (at 12:00 instead of 15:00). They clean the rooms every 4 nights and give you clean towels only when you ask for them. The lifts are outdated, too few for such a big hotel and have been out of order twice in 4 days. The property could use significant maintenance or renovation.

Having stayed at STG on several occasions I was always happy with my stay there. I booked a one night stay there on the 22nd April as I was working in the west end. I was late arriving around midnight I went through the self check in ok. I tried to buy a drink from the vending machine I didn’t work as asked a member of the desk he didn’t seem to be bothered and just shrugged and said it wasn’t working, not to worry I thought will get a drink in my room. Get to the room no means to make a hot or even a bottle of water. I went back to reception and asked were can I get a drink! The bar he said wile talking to his colleague. I went to the bar £1.95 for a tiny bottle of water. I had to be back on site early so left the hotel at 5.30 to top it all there was no hot water so had to have a cold shower I let it run for 5mins just incase it would run through it was still cold all in all I wouldn’t book here again

The only thing the hotel has going for it is the location. The bed was uncomfortable, was awake early with a bad back. The TV in the room is the size of a small computer monitor. The ensuite shower drained so slowly I had to cut my shower short because the tray was about to overflow. The tap on the sink required two hands to lift it up. The room was really tired looking. The seemed to be constant queues for the elevators and the room was down a corridor that felt like you had entered the cheap end of the hotel. Check-in and check-out is done at a computer with no human interaction unless you are a member of their executive club, then there were two staff doing nothing. Only reason I stayed was because of the tube strike and I needed to be in walking distance of the office. Never again!

I had booked a twin room here, they gave me room 384. As soon as i got in i saw a HUGE bed bug on the blanket just crawling around. Left the room ASAP, asked for a better room. They put on the 8th floor in a \"refurbished\" double room which felt a bit cleaner. The second room was alright but the first one felt really depressing...

Mattresses and pillows were harder than hard - difficult to get comfy at all. No kettle in room. Very basic black metal beds - the bedframe stuck out beyond the mattress, so we both bashed our legs on them. Restaurant was good for dinner - very fast service.

Room was small and clean enough. Bathroom was an outdated some rust and cracks and was some crumbs in our bath tub & a little smelly.
Staff were ok, helped but not overly happy or enthusiastic.the biggest disappointment was needing to pay to keep your luggage in the holding room as couldn’t check in till 3pm, I think it is ridiculous that you should to pay to store your luggage when already paying over £100 for a room especially when asking for £10 per bag! That is a lot of money for a family visiting for 2 days! I have never had to pay to keep luggage stored in other hotels.

Room was adequate for our purpose, ie watching a show, very good location. However the check in system was poor, i was sent a request a few days before to check in on line with credit card details and when we arrived i reaslised why. We were approx 3/4 hr early for check in and totally understood that, as with all hotels if the room isnt ready you cant have it, however we were told that if we wanted to check in early it would be £20, and if we wanted to leave our bags, that would be £10 each. Very unusual and meant we had to hang around the area waiting instead of dropping off thw bags and getting on with our day. Seems as if the hotel took any opportunity to try and get money, also warned that if we checked out late, even a few mins, we would be charged. I will say that staff did make this clear and they were all helpful, but the policies and extra charges for everything means i would not use again

I've been a regular visitor to the st Giles hotel, now known as STG. It's under different management. Check in time is 3pm and they now charge £10 per bag to store them. 3 bags storage for checking in and for checking out £60 total. Factor this extra cost in when booking.

Also, dirty walls in the room and no room cleaning unless you pay an extra cost again.

Was was dated but clean. No tea or coffee or kettle in the room. The vending machine sticks so don’t use for water or you may pay 2/3 times before getting one. Tried to book a late check out on line but no response so paid at the desk. Then was asked to pay again by an email link. Best thing was some of the staff. The breakfast in the à la carte was excellent. In the buffet the toaster was on fine, took 3 visits to the coffee station and the orange juice was disgustingly sweet.

The hotel was conveniently placed for main tube links and attractions.
The room was clean with lots of storage space. The shower was good with hot water and good pressure.
There was no air conditioning and even with radiator turned of the room was uncomfortably warm making sleeping problematic.
The girl wanted to charge £10 per item to store luggage which I found unacceptable especially as we only needed it for an hour prior to check in

Staff at the desk seem unhappy if you approach them instead of using their self-check in service, even if you have a question you need to ask that isn’t about check-in.

Fire alarm went off in the middle of the night. Fire exits were not clear or well maintained and I had to move a step-ladder aside at the bottom of the stair well. No communication with staff during the hour or so stood in the cold alongside hundreds of other people. The disrupted night wasn’t worth the cost.

The room itself was ok, clean, tidy. No kettle or coffee station which is a first for me in a London hotel room.
