I was in town for a conference down the street and got incredibly lucky to be placed in the same room as someone also attending the conference. I think my experience at the hostel was better because of that.
I did find two of the female hostel staff to be rude. I had messaged the property Tuesday evening asking if a room would be available for me Wednesday morning. I was informed that it was not guaranteed, so I decided to pay for Tuesday night to ensure a bed was ready for me after a long flight from LA. Apparently my card had bounced, yet I was not informed. When I brought it up to the woman who checked me in Wednesday morning at 9 AM, she was a bit cold and rude, saying I was a no show, insinuating that I should’ve known despite me expressing my experience. That definitely did not start my trip on the right foot. My roommate had a similar experience.
Additionally, when the we were rushing out to the conference, we passed by the 2nd floor and got excited about grabbing popcorn. After waiting in line, the woman handing it out on the 2nd floor on Thursday evening refused to provide us with any until we wrote our names on name tags. That was understandable, but the tone did feel dismissive.
The male staff during my checkout and baggage storage all day Saturday did redeem the overall hostel staff experience. Huge S/O!
