It’s really u safe place to stay and not suggested fir families.Very convenient location but arrogant staff and is near to bar taboo.Place is surrounded by lot of homeless pshychos and is unsafe not just at night but at any point in time.There was no power amd water for almost 6-7hiurs.Will not suggest.Only highlight is location.

Mauvais points :

-La première impression n’a pas été forte dû au vibe un peu « sale » de la réception; derrière la personne se trouvait un lavabo entièrement recouvert de produits de nettoyage très sales.

-La personne a la réception ne parlait pas un seul mot français malheureusement ce qui peut être inconvénient pour certaines personnes.

- J’ai choisi une chambre sur Hotels.com en me fiant aux photos, et à l’arrivée on s’est rendu compte que ce n’était pas la même chambre. Elle avait heureusement les même commodités mais j’aimais moins le décor, je trouve dommage de choisir une chambre et de ne pas être certains que c’est celle qu’on aura.

-Sur les photos il y a plusieurs chandelles autour du bain (raison principale de notre réservation), mais il y en a une seule dans la chambre.

-La porte de la chambre ne me semble pas sécuritaire, elle ferme mal et il y a une grosse craque au haut qui laisse passer l’air et le son du couloir à la chambre.

Bon points:

-La chambre est très belle et super propre, elle contient de belles commodités, un frigidaire, une cafetière, un bouteille d’eau des coupes, une douche incroyable en plus du bain à remous et le matelas est INCROYABLE.

-Nous avons eu la surprise d’un balcon dans notre chambre et nous étions ravis !

-Le bain est immense, et bien décoré.

-La température de la chambre était impeccable.

-Il n’y a aucun le mauvaise odeur dans l’immeuble ou la chambre. Ça semble très bien entretenue.

The Dorion Hôtel was close to transportation, had ac, clean bedding and bathroom and had a buzz-in entry. However, we had a very difficult time contacting the hotel to confirm. We called for weeks and there was no answer. After awhile, we got through but the staff couldn’t understand me in french or english. We called Expedia with our concerns and it took them a few days to get through to the hotel as well. Then I got an email saying they got through and I couldn’t cancel. We called again and finally spoke to someone who confirmed our reservation but couldn’t confirm the length of our stay. As for the room it was very humid and damp. It was not mentioned that the room was directly on top of a bar along with the very unclean carpet, there was a bad smell. Many small steep stairs. Also, there was no continental breakfast as advertised.

Hidden gem!

Excellent little place. The entrance will make you worry a bit, but once you get inside you’ll be met by friendly staff and marvelous rooms. Bed was incredible. Though I didn’t book it, I was given a room with a jacuzzi (I’m not sure if this can be relied upon.) Very convenient to the metro and the gay village.

Heights of uncleanness - better sleep on foot path

The most disgusting stay i have ever been to. I could not sleep for whole night as I looked what was under the blankets. Carpet condition is terrible. Room is full of bad smell from smoking. Doors that don't even close properly. Could not wait to get out of the place. Could not park our car anywhere near by. Had to take Uber to go the overnight parking place.

The barest minimum

Very shabby place: stains on everything from curtains to sheets, doors didn’t close/open, shower dripped noisily, toilet kept running, could hear every noise made in the whole building, breakfast was only coffee and bread available to make toast, parking was only on the street at your own risk. Good points were proximity to the metro and friendly staff.

The location was the best thing about the property. You were near the metro and Ste. Catherine's with all the restaurants, bars and shops. Nice kitchen. I didn't use it because we were only there a few days. If I were there longer, I definitely would have used it.

When I got there I got the keys when going up 3 flights off stairs I notice a big stain on the floor on the steps when I got to the door and I enter the room I notice the carpet was not vacuumed as I was getting unpacked I was taking out some food then noticed they had no microwave and no fridge I went to grab the phone in the room and it didn't not work at all so I went to the front desk and asked them for a microwave and fridge they told me they dont have any in the other rooms and it does not come with one the offered to put my food in lobby fridge but declined. A few mint later they knock on the room door to give me a mine fridge I asked for a microwave they said they have nun after plugging in the fridge notice it didn't not work.. went in the wash room found wet cigarette on the floor washroom wash clean the chairs were all stain with who knows what and they looked like they was found in the garbage bed was really hard but then notice big stain on floor beside bed next morning notice the house lady didn't knock on door for bed change instead I had to go to the lobby and ask they said she was not I and then gave me my own sheets to make the bed and i had to ask for new towels they had no coffee maker in room nor coffee to guest In the lobby it stayed empty all the time the place smelled old following the night with thumping from the guy bar downstairs but I can say one thing good about the room the hot tub was powerful and amazing but did need cleaning would not be vi

I got the room with the \"jetted tub\" in it for a couple nights visit to the Gay Village. It's located perfectly for where I was going, but the hotel itself left a lot to be desired. The walls were exceptionally thin, so I heard everything going on in the hotel and out. I never slept for more than an hour or two at once, although I did appreciate the bedding. The water to the hotel was cut off for the first day I was there, preventing me from showering, using the jetted tub I paid for, or even so much as brushing my teeth. While this wasn't the hotel's fault, I expected a little more from the hotel in resolving the issue. Maybe offer me a bottle of water to quench my thirst and brush my teeth with? I asked at the front desk and they refused. As it turns out, the jetted tub had no jets in it so it was just a big tub in the bedroom area which was quite disappointing. I don't think I'll stay here again.

The hotel in the surface is a bit run-down and dated but you could initially think it’s shabby chic. Remain vigilant and make sure you leave do not disturb signs up at all time. We same back from breakfast with our hotel room door wide open, windows popped out but yet most of our belongings. Weird, disrutive and basically personifies the vibe of the place

They rent by the hour and a hooker wanted to use our room because they were already full. She was also upset we got a room and she was next and didn’t get one for the 3 hrs she wanted.

AC stopped working and if you think to open the window, they don’t have screens.

Street parking in a risky neighbourhood by the metro.

Only good thing was cheap ish, and close to gay village, that’s about it. Would not recommend or stay again. Confusing place to get in at first, buzzer to enter building, extremely warm in the summer, so we had AC, but still a bit on the warm side. Would rate 1/5 stars. Didnt think it would be this bad though. At check in, employee could not work debit/credit machine so he asked me to pay cash, I did not plan for that. Nor did I have cash..He managed to get it to work but that’s not okay. ALSO no parking, so I went into ask if he had suggestions, he was no help whatsoever. Finding parking in Montreal was quite difficult but I did manage to find a free spot close by. Not the cleanest place, from the stairwells, floors, walls and even room.

Fantastic location.. But that was all it had going for it. Room wasn't very clean, stains on the sheets. I stayed for one night and the hotel charged me 2x. I had to call management 5 times before they refunded the overcharged amount. Won't stay here again.

The front door entrance reeked of urine. Bathroom is disgusting and door didn’t close. Close to the Meteo as long as you stepped over the sleeping homeless people laying on the ground on sidewalks. Walls not isolated much. We hear others often. Water is badly managed, a shower get too hot or too cold every 5 seconds. The AC hole in window let pass all the city noise so you must sleep with at least the fan on to cover the noise. Sheets were stained. TV remote had defective buttons. The door lock is extremely simple as a standard room in a house.

Pulled up to the hotel, the location and outside is terrible. You can actually guess hotel condition from outside. Wife refused to go in with baby but i didnt want to judge a book by its cover so i went up to check it out. Owner wont let me see room before signing paperwork. Old and Musty smell in the lobby. Met an upset tenant who was mad because he just checked in but his room was dirty. Tenant wanted me to see his room for myself but owner became upset and started yelling. I decided i wasnt putting my baby in that condition so i left. They only refunded half of what i paid.

It was decent

The staff was super friendly and was likely the highlight of my stay.
However, there was no mini fridge in the room which was odd, the shower pressure was not good and the water would go from scorching hot to freezing cold,there was also a problem with the toilet and the building smelt like smoke.
Aside from that the room had a homey feel, and there was more than enough room for me and my boyfriend to walk around comfortably.

Good location, but absolutely freezing!

The location is great. It's right beside Rue Sainte Catherine, one of the major streets in Montreal. It's right across the street from the Subway as well. The free parking is very limited, but we were lucky to get a parking spot right in front of the hotel. The staff will easily help you find a spot to park your car. Check-in was very simple and the front desk staff was very friendly.

Downsides: The room was absolutely freezing!!! The thermostat does not work, and the room we had came with a small space heater, but since it was -30 degrees the night we were there, the heater did absolutely nothing. There are lots of stairs. Upon entering the hotel, we walked up a flight of stairs and then walked through the hotel and down another flight of stairs to get to our room. It was okay though because we were able to exit onto ground level.

Due to the hotel's central location, the cab ride from the Casino of Montreal to Hotel Dorion was only $13.00, which was nice.

The hotel is fine to stay in for one night. I would not recommend kids staying in the hotel, or pregnant mothers. The hotel is DEFINITELY not worth the price. I paid $100 to stay for one night, and it was not worth it. I really wish I had just paid a little extra and stayed at a nicer hotel.

We found the hotel finally after navigating lots of one street.
The narrow stairwells was old as well as the tiny reception but the room we got was perfect as it's clean and a no smoking newer room.
The guy at the reception was kind and helpful too which was great.
The hotel has few free parking spots in front and we were lucky to secure one.

don't like the area? don't blame the hotel

reviews are bad because guests are ignorant. if you don't want to live in the gay village, don't stay here & then bash the hotel? this is a DECENT place with decent staff who might seem tough/direct but i think it comes with running an inn in this neighborhood. front door is secure with buzz-back. it's not meant to be offputting, but to protect the guests safety? the rooms are above a bar. people get drunk at bars & smoke outside. this is NOT the hotel's fault. yes, there can be a strong cigarette smell in the room if you open all the windows. but the room itself is nonsmoking.
this is not a family hotel. there's no parking, they have a walk up with stairs to the reception & rooms. not for people with mobility issues, but this is simply the type of building it is. need a luxury place with elevators? go somewhere else!
leaving in the morning, i was caught by what might have been the manager/owner, who politely asked if we'd like our room cleaned. this is WAY less invasive than knocking on our door at an early hour when we might be sleeping.
this is not a renovated, fancy place. but it has character, interesting finishings & glasswork, pretty varnished floors in the hallways & in our case, a jetted tub that was very relaxing. continental breakfast on weekends does not mean full breakfast, people. don't knock them for serving basic morning snack.
no complaints other than the springs in the mattress poking us. would recommend to informed travelers.

Maybe for some people who smoke won’t find the stench of stale smoked cigarettes everywhere a bad thing. Even the bed smelled like smoke and the toilet and jetted tub had cigarette burns. If I wanted to rough it out I would’ve gone to Algonquin park. Won’t recommend it...sorry.

Booked this hotel for three nights as a younger (19 year old) American, I think it's almost a given we would be staying in Montreal at this hotel in gay village for pride at the given weekend to drink and party. The first time I had an issue with staff I mistakenly left via an emergency exit, which I was spoken to and this I admit was totally my mistake 100%. The women who was one of the owner/managers was very nice and helped me and a friend in the lobby cook in the lobby with the toaster oven and microwave. The second time the older gentalman made my friend and I feel rushed by saying we can't eat our food in the lobby and frequently peeked in and asked us if our food ready as if we were in someone's way. The hotel was in my name personally and I came back late one of the other nights once and brought another boy back and the man who I belive was an owner/manger stoped usband tried to tell me I was staying with two girl only, this was true but my point was I was paying a fair amount of money for my room and I think I should be able to have anyone in my room for a small period of time regardless, so I told him look ___ is my room number if you think he's spending the night come knock in an hour or so, but I just don't understand why it was an issue in the first place we were quiet respectful and by no means walking in sloppy drunk. I get that we were young Americans but we were very careful to be quiet and respectful I would have wished for the same in return. I personall

The people at the Dorion are doing a fine job and they deserve to be appreciated. The Dorion is an old hotel in an urban center (many similar facilities have become resident hotels aka rooming houses). Parking is a problem, but the desk clerks will inform you of on-street parking that is available (the left side of Rue Dorion on the other side of Maisonneuve Blvd. worked for me). The carpeting on the stairs is threadbare, but don't be unduly influenced by this first impression. The attentive staff quickly buzzes in guests and maintains tight security. The neighborhood itself is far safer than those in most American cities. The entire staff is friendly and helpful, and the maid is hard working and courteous. There is a nice little kitchen with a view of the street and you can enjoy a quiet breakfast there, since the area is never crowded. Guests have 24 hour access to the kitchen, with its large refrigerator, microwave, toaster, etc. In addition, they will happily provide you with a mini-fridge for your room. The rooms feature window units for air conditioning, fairly large bathrooms (mine had a new shower stall) with no shortage of hot water, no leaks. Everything is clean albeit old -- which, to me, gives a building character. There is more than ample space for your clothes, with a dressing cabinet and a large dresser. Plenty of fully functional electrical outlets.

Blood marks on unchanged bed sheets

We had a terrible experience at this hotel. We travelled quite a bit but usually don't mind hotels with lower quality. But this one is unbearable. Staff was very nice and helpful. The room was though unbelievably filthy. There were stains on the walls. Not sure if it was blood or coffee. But worst of all was the blood mark we found on bedsheet... it was disgusting! Never coming back again.

We made our reservation on June 24th at 2pm. We pull up to our hotel at 4pm. First red flag would have been there was no parking offered as it was above a gay bar. Second red flag, you have to buzz to be let upstairs where the front desk is. Third red flag would have been the prostitute with a liquor bottle in hand that answered the door.. Welcoming us with \"Hey its 15$ a hour for a room.\" we tell her we have reservations, shes thrown off by this. We head upstairs, to the \"front desk\". Run by a grumpy jerk with a saftey glass in front of him. A SAFTEY GLASS. anyway i tell him we would like to cancel our reservations as this hotel was not what we expected. He tells me hes taking 50% because they have a policy. OK FINE show me the policy. Reading the policy. It stated that i had to Cancel my reservation by JUNE 19TH 6PM to not owe them anything. OK BUT I BOOKED IT ON THE 24TH? 2 hours ago? So according to this policy i had to cancel 5 days before I even booked the hotel? This hotel is disgusting. It looks like it has never been dusted. The guy behind the desk waa the worst part. He was charging me 35$ when i pointed out his policy was BS and a scam, he starts to yell at us.
This place is a mess.

Run Down, Poorly maintained - Totally Ignored :-(

CheckOut: I went back to the hotel at midnight to collect my heavy suitcase and 2 heavy carry-ons for my journey to the airport. I took one item at the time down the two flight of steps, leaving it by the front door on the road level. Then went back up(for the wifi) to speak to my sister on my mobile phone to arrange for an Uber driver to pick me up immediately. As I was doing that, Billy said I could not wait there, and I was to leave! I told him where did he want me to go and he said either to my room(which he knew I had none as I had already checked out!) or leave the hotel and make my call elsewhere as he was \"busy\". There was noone there except Billy. He knew my bags were down, and I was trying to get my sister to arrange a Uber pick up for me but yet he was adamant that I leave the hotel immediately since I no longer was a hotel guest! I told him that I had stayed there for 4 nights and that made me a guest of the hotel. He insisted that I leave the hotel as he was \"busy\". I told him that his lady boss gave me top-notch service and respect but his treatment to me was hurtful knowing that I was already leaving. My sister managed get the Uber booking for me and she heard the quarrel between me and Billy and was shocked as she has stayed with me for 3 nights there. I left immediately with a sour taste in my mouth of this so-called Hotel. FYI, there is no lobby, just a small \"waiting area\" of a armchair outside a glass window room - like in a doctor's dispensary.

Convenient and close to the metro. Great value. Room was okay but sheets and towels were very old. The garbage in the room wasn't emptied every day. There wasn't great light in the room and some of the outlets didn't work.

If you are looking to save money and be in a convenient location in Montreal it is great. If you want comfortable beds and a charming environment this isn't the right hotel for you.

Cheap and unprofessional

Aside from the great location --right by rue Saint-Catherine where the gay bars are-- L'hotel Dorian is a terrible option. Upon arriving, you can smell the old odor of cigarettes in the room, room walls peeling off and the toilette had cigarette spots all over the seat. Breakast area is dirty, unattended, and food quality follows the same standards. I stayed 2nights and on my last day the room attendant uninvitedly entered my room while I was changing. To top this off, the night attendant tried to talk me into paying more to stay at the same room but with internet signal available -- yes, Internet signal doesn't work either. he told me he'd give me the code of someone who lived closed by. I think that speaks to the professionalism of the place. Also, I was paying 90usd for a night at a
Room in a place where rooms are rented by the hour. Lots of sex, prostitute and noises. I would not recommend this hotel at all.

The hotel is slapped together with any moldings and wood work available. Looks like the forts we built as kids. The carpets are worn and frayed. There was exposed plaster in the stair well. Only had 2 flat pillows on the bed until we asked for two more.

Basic hotel

I stayed there for two nights in August, 2016. The hotel is very basic and in need of some widespread general repairs. I slept too late on the one morning that continental breakfast was offered, so I can't comment on that. Towels and wash cloths are provided. The bar soap provided were the smallest little cakes of soap I ever saw in my life. Consider bringing your own soap. There is a telephone in the room, which allows you to make local calls. (I was not charged for my calls.) However, you cannot make toll-free calls on the phone, which was a problem for me. My cell phone does not work in Canada, so I rely on pre-paid phone cards to make calls to the USA. To use them you need to call a toll free number first, but since the telephones in the room do not permit this, I was unable to stay in contact with my family. This was a big drawback for me. The wifi did not work in my room. I had to take my laptop into the breakfast room in order to check emails. Their wifi is available through an unsecured network, so no security access code is needed and therefore, one does not feel secure using it. I suggest they change it to a secured network.

Poor Quality, Poor Service

The Dorion is in a great place for access to the party scene in Montreal.
However, the Hotel is poor. I stayed there 3 nights. After the 1st night they did not clean the room, make the bed, or give me any clean towels.
The 2nd night they did not make the bed and gave me 2 towels that I believe the Salvation Army would have rejected. Parking is terrible. I won't be staying here again. A \"one star\" rating is generous.

Grand Prix weekend at Hotel Dorion

The hotel was a little rundown, threadbare carpets etc., but the room itself was very clean and comfortable. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The guest parking space was small but a Metro station and bus stop were right out the front door so getting around was easy. Compared to the cost of other hotels I checked, this is a good value and its close to everything. I would stay there again.

Room was OK; but Hotel in bad shape.

Stayed here years ago for about half the rate, but it has not really changed. There are NO elevators and no rooms on street level. Common areas (hallways, stairs and general building condition) were pretty bad. The rooms themselves were much better, but were very dated, with cheap fixtures, and door knob/lock was not very secure. Miniscule sliver of a soap bar, tissues & toilet paper provided, but no other supplies. We booked two nights, and there was no room service while we were there; no do-not-disturb or make-up-room signs, and nobody came in to clean anything or to replace soiled towels. This was one of their only two \"jetted\" (whirlpool) rooms. We found the price ($120/night with tax) was excessive for the whole experience. Was located right near where we wanted to be, and our first and second choices were taken, so that is why we chose it. Not recommended, until they do MAJOR renovations.

Nice hotel, Maybe not for everyone.\n

Great location next to metro and a short stroll to the Gay Village's fantastic restaurants. Comfortable room, above a colorful nightclub. Hotel apparently has a bit of an adult clientele, but we found it quiet.
