Located within a completely restored 19th-century building, So Cool Hostel Porto offers modern, private and shared accommodations in one of the most central avenues of Porto, Avenida da Boavista. Free WiFi access is included.

Featuring high ceilings with stucco works, rooms are bright and airy. They all include lockers, individual reading lights and have key card access.

+) The staff were very nice. The neighbourhood is quieter, but is close enough to a nice street with some cute shops and there are metro stations nearby.

-) There was no outlet near my bunk and the wifi did not work when I was there. The room was also very hot and the air conditioning did not work. Bed and sheets looked clean, but I got a couple bug bites that I am pretty sure were from my stay. The bathroom could be cleaner.

Definitely get what you pay for. Value is decent. They are a stickler for the rules, especially the quiet hours, and they make you leave your room from 11am-2pm to clean, so keep that in mind. Check in is seamless, but do not come late, they are closed from 22:00-8:00 I think. Overall great value, met a lot of nice people. Best thing was the cleanliness.

Stay here if you are in Porto!

This hostel was so great! Susanna the receptionist was so kind and helpful. Beds and bathroom were very clean. No complaints, I'd definitely stay here again.

Very pleasant

+ very pleasant, helpful, outgoing staff
+ huge room with a big bathroom, all very clean
+ location 3 min walk from metro stop (served by majority of Porto metro lines), 15 min walk to the old Porto centre
+ big garden right in front of the room, would be great for a summer stay

~ basic breakfast, not too many choices but quite tasty (good bread)

- bed not so comfy
- soundproofing of the room could be better

Overall, I had a very good stay - the minuses are more tips for improvement, I would recommend this hostel to any not-too-fussy traveller.

Spacious and fun place

It's a nice hostel where you can meet other travelers from all over the world. The rooms are spacious and clean. The staff members, Karina and Susana are attentive and kind. I loved the patio as well as the quiet surroundings. It's perfect to relax and enjoy Porto.

Porto hostel

Excellent staff and very helpful!
Location good, very close to the metro station. Breakfast is free and very good & generous, for a hostel (good quality fresh bread rolls, butter, honey, jams, chocolate spread, cheese, ham, different types of cereal, fruits, coffee, tea, juice. Well equipped kitchen, amazing terrace and good communal space.
Now, what needs serious improvement is the bathroom. 2 toilettes and 2 showers for all females is not enough at all. Not to mention that there is not much privacy as all 4 cabinets are in the same room, separated by glass paneld with not enough shadowing (almost transparent!). The toilets are really tiny, you are squeezed even while standing.
Also, some chairs in the rooms would be good. Finally, a bit shame to charge for luggage storage..my view on this though.

Before my arrival at the hostel I received an email from the hostel staff to announce me I have to hurry up as the reception works only till 23:30. I appreciated this. The lady from the reception was over friendly and I really enjoyed her presence full of positive vibe. AL THE beds were occupied in the room but I slept very well without noise from outside or inside. The breakfast was very nice with few choices. You can use the kitchen as well after breakfast if you wanna cook for yourself. A good experience and I would go back there.

Welcoming hostel in Porto

When I read this was a hostel, I had some doubts. I was traveling with my two adult children and my son, who frequents hostels, said I wouldn't like the lifestyle, I was pleasantly surprised. We had the large family room which came with a private bathroom, two single beds and a bunk bed. Sheets, blankets and towels were provided and a decent, if simple breakfast came with the price. The staff was very attentive, even staying up late to let us in. The location was central and accessible. I would certainly stay here again and recommend it enthusiastically.

Great staff, modern hostel

This hostel is very welcoming. The building is old, but the facilities are modern and very comfortable. It is a walk to the more touristy areas, but there is piblic transport close by and lots of local restaurants. Staff were lovely

The best hostel I have stayed

Perfect location, close to metro. Breakfast is crazy good. The service people are all really nice. only one thing to improve, i left my luggage there for 3 hours, and i was charged 1 euros

Not So Cool!

This hostel is not so cool. Staff not friendly or helpful. Too far away from the centre of Porto.

I do not reccommend this hostel. I suggest that peiople stay in more central hostels like Tattve hostel instead

What a great find. Priced very reasonably, easy to find. Extremely clean. Good breakfast choices included in the price, a garden to relax in as well as a sitting room.
However what made our stay exceptional was Suzane who welcomed us , looked after us, recommended restaurants and made phone calls for us. She is fantastic.

Primeira acomodação que vi na vida que não te permite esperar pelo check in la e te cobra para deixar as malas antes. Me mandaram sair na chuva até que fosse a hora do meu check in. O hostel é bonito e limpo mas a cama extremamente barulhenta e desconfortável. Café da manhã pobre, não fornecem proteína. Pelo valor que paguei de 50 dólares na diária, não valeu nem um segundo.

Pior experiencia em hostel.
Pessimo atendimento, a atendente foi nojenta e debochada quando chegamos, pois nao sabia como era o hostel e fiz perguntas quanto ao banheiro. Ela olhava com deboche. Tambem quis cobrar dois euros para guardar a bagagem. No dia sefuinte o cafe da manha uma miséria, um pao, uma fatia de queijo e uma de oresunto embrulhadas separadas. Melhor que nem oferecesse.
Ficamos num quarto privativo com banheiro também privativo, mas no ultimo dia, apareceu outro casal e o banheiro deixou de ser privativo e sim compartilhado e nao era o que comprei no site.
Enfim, nunca mais! As roupas de csma nao foram tocadas pois encontrei cabelo de outra pessoa.. Recebemos uma toalha de banho para os tres dias de hospedagem. Me senti muito mal, dormindo numa cama suja usada por outra pessoa! E outro dia quando quis emprestar o secador, me ditaram as regras do uso e o horario. Nao sou crianca que nao sei respeitar

Très propre bien situé proche du métro. Nous avions une auto que nous avons stationné assez facilement sur le bord de la rue pour une nuit. La chambre avec deux lits simples est très grande. Le petit déjeuner est bien. L’hôte nous demande de ne pas faire de bruit entre 23h et 7h même pas utiliser la douche. Donc à 23:15 , nous avons pris notre douche à l’eau froide. Pas d’eau chaude jusqu’a 8:30 le lendemain matin. Coïncidence?

Para ir a solo a dormir increíble

Nos hospedamos en la habitación individual, como veis en las fotos sencilla, lo justo para dejar las maletas. Está zona está en la última planta que es la 4 y no hay ascensor. Solo había 2 habitaciones y el baño a compartir es solo para esa zona. Está todo súper limpio, tanto las zonas comunes, como la habitación. Está andando al centro (estación sao Bento) unos 25/30 minutos. Hay parada de metro a 3 minutos andando Carolina Michelis, con lo cual hay opciones sino quieres andar. Tienes cocina para compartir, que está súper limpia y entra un pequeño desayuno compuesto por un bollito de pan con queso y jamón dulce, o lo puedes acompañar con mantequilla, mermeladas, nocilla, miel… también cereales. Lo que podéis repetir es bebida y cereales. Es bastante correcto. A parte que se puede utilizar para cocinar tu comida.

Llévate tus sábanas, lo demás bien!!

Un Hostal muy bien ubicado, la parada de metro de Carolina está a 3min., el desayuno está muy bien, y se puede descansar en silencio por las noches.
Lo único precario de este Hostal son las sábanas de la cama y las almohadas/cojines, cuando destapamos la primera noche nuestra colcha, descubrimos sábanas con pelos y suciedad!! Nos dio muchísimo asco dormir esa primera noche.., y las almohadas son tipo cojines pequeños y muy deformados!!
Puede que en este Hostal estén hasta las narices de recibir gente maleducada, pero la higiene va con uno mismo, y no todos los clientes somos iguales;
El lavabo muy espacioso y bonito, pero faltan los pestillos tanto del WC como de las duchas, ah!! Y si que hay agua caliente, lo q si alguien se ha duchado antes que tú, tienes que esperar a que se vuelva a llenar el calentador.
Solo lo recomiendo si te llevas tus propias sábanas.

Reglas muy estrictas que no hacen grata la estadía

Fue una experiencia muy decepcionante ya que las reglas de la hostal son muy estrictas y nada flexibles, el personal es educado al atender, tuve dos impasse muy malos, que de \"cool\" como dice el nombre, no tiene nada. Me cambié desde otra que estaba en el centro porque vi su excelente puntuación. Llegué 30 minutos antes del check in, la hostal esta alejada del centro, así que no es muy sencillo llegar, el recepcionista me recibió afuera, me dijo que no podía ingresar al recinto hasta las 15 hrs. Le pregunté si podía usar el baño, a lo que se negó, tuve que ir a un centro comercial que estaba cerca porque era una urgencia, le pregunté si por lo menos podía dejar mi equipaje, a lo que accedió, yo andaba con tres bolsos grandes, no me ayudó con ninguno y me hizo salir de la hostal.
Me quedé dos noches ya que no quería cambiarme una 3era vez.
Al hacer el check out me dicen que debía abandonar el Hostel, que no podía hacer uso de las áreas comunes. Mi bus era a las 21 hrs. (viaje de 8 horas hasta Porto), así que salí a recorrer hasta las 20 que volví a buscar mis maletas, llovió todo el día, por lo que pedí usar el baño para secar mis pies, la recepcionistas a regañadientes aceptó, luego fui a la cocina a buscar mi comida que estaba en el refrigerador, me puse a ordenarla para el viaje, a lo que ella llega y me hecha, me dice repetidas veces que yo ya no era huésped y que tenía que salir, fue un trato muy humillante, jamás me había pasado algo así y he viajado por todo el mundo.

Quarto muito pequeno e pouco funcional (apenas 1 cama e pouco mais). Pequeno almoço com muito poucas opções. Equipa de funcionários pouco cortês, a falar e rir alto ao lado dos hóspedes durante o pequeno almoço, e a retirar os itens do pequeno almoço sem perguntar aos hóspedes de desejam algo mais. Acima de tudo, parecem-me demasiado jovens e consequentemente pouco profissionais, e não tanto mal educados.

The good: So Cool Hostal is located in an old building that has been renovated, the place is very clean and at least the bathrooms for the private rooms are also very clean. Breakfast was good (including fruit, bread, coffee, tea, ham, etc.) and the attention we received from Susana was very helpful and kind.

To be considered: The check in can only be done at 15:00 and if you want to leave a bag you need to pay 1euro, plus you cannot stay in the Hostal until you do your check-in. The location is okay but not great, it takes around 25-30 minutos to arrive to the touristic spots. Wifi is slow because of all the people using it. Although we stayed in a private room (located on the top floor) there were irrespectful people on the other floors (screaming and runing in the middle of the night) and all that noise could be heard.
