Near a great pastry shop and cafe.

An older establishment, but well kept clean and tidy. Rooms are of a sufficient size for two people. Bathroom and shower were very nice. Except for the glass bath door which gave little privacy and difficult to close due to it swinging in too far.

A short walk from Casa do Música where you can catch the metro and international buses. A pleasant stroll down to the water front for the traditional trams.

A great pastry shop just outside the entrance which is very convenient.

The mold in the bathroom shower was excessive. The mattresses had to be at least 20 years old and bedding was moderately clean. The hotel is run down. We did not end up staying the nights we had booked and will look to get a refund. I would not recommend this hotel

Hotel Vice Rei was a very nice and clean place to stay. The staff were very friendly and helpful. It is a very nice basic room. No USB plugs, we worked around it but was surprised there wasn’t any. It was a five minute walk to Bom Sucesso Urban Concept for coffee or a meal with Casa Agricola a great place to stop and have a drink. Overall we were very pleased with our stay at Hotel Vice Rei

Nice Stay in Porto!

We stayed three nights at this hotel and overall we had a pleasant stay. Check in was quick and they have staff 24 hours. Rooms are outdated and small. The toilet lid was broken and internet service was very slow.
Location is good because it is close to public transportation and close to a nice mall. There were nice cafeterias nearby but no restaurants. Busy street with a lot of traffic.

Hotel is conveniently located in a modern part of Porto, with easy access to public transport. Nice covered market nearby with plenty of food choices and a great patisserie next door. Hotel is not super fancy or luxurious, but it is excellent value for money. No complaints at all.

Nice hotel

Comfortable stay. Payable breakfast ok, but limited. Rooms tastefully decorated as is hotel in period design. Location although handy for shopping centres is out of the way from the centre and river Douro. Walkable though.

2 star hotel in inconvenient area…

This is an older hotel, small rooms with minimal insulation between walls…. Could hear those in next room & hallway when trying to sleep. The shower was “ok”—not a lot of water pressure. The room was small-not a lot of room for suitcases. Breakfast was minimal… not enough food options. Not in a good location-NOT conveniently walkable. The staff however, was nice & friendly.

Old fashion (UK standard) hotel, however room was clean and comfortable and met my needs for a one night stay. 5 - 10 minutes on the bus to get into city centre and 5 minute walk to the Metro. If you are after a clean room at a competitive price then I would recommend the hotel, but not expect anything fancy.

Great value, location and staff

Staff was amazing, very helpful. We were 10 minutes from the metro station which we took from the airport. very easy. We were a 20 to 30 minute walk from the historic area where we were able to get a walking tour and hop on hop off bus. The hop on hop off bus actually stopped 10 minute walk from our hotel also. There was local buses right near our hotel also and the metro was right there too. I would definitely stay there again.

Water had very low pressure, sometimes took over 5 minutes to start running warm, room had a slight smoke smell, WiFi is useless as they tamper with the connections and couldn’t even connect to my banks, only good thing was the friendly staff but that doesn’t make up for all the bad ones... Will NOT stay there again!

Friendly, cost effective stay.

I really liked this hotel. It's down the road from Casa Musica metro station which I caught to get back to the airport. My room was cleaned daily and on one day when I was sick and the housemaids couldn't come in, they checked with the receptionist and had him ring to make sure everything was OK as they couldn't understand my English. There's a supermarket nearby on the lower floor of a shopping centre and you can catch the tourist bus close to the hotel.

Very close to the bus stop which is really convenient. The hotel is a bit old style but still comfortable.
Tey provided extra blanket but i think it needs a good wash because i woke up with sniffles, i am allergic to dust so i think its from the blanket as i woke up from 2 nights with allergies.. but the bed was comfortable and we slept very well. Room is clean and has balcony which is cool~

Good location near Porto’s Casa de Misic public transport bus and metro nearby. Staff friendly and most helpful in giving directions to city’s attractions.
All in all good value. The hotel is 2 star and is an older type hotel but satisfied our needs as we were there to explore the wonderful city of Porto

Value for money and good standard

We stayed in the hotel for 5 nights. Staff was very friendly and helpful, always ready to answer all the questions. They speak very good English so no sign language required :P (As it happens in many places)
The room was cleaned every day with change of towels and supply of toiletries.
Hotel is close to the metro station and plenty of bus stops in all directions right behind it. There is a supermarket around the corner and pharmacy.

Excellent budget hotel

It's a little far from the centre but we managed to move around on foot. I have to say it's an excellent hotel considering the price - I can't complain anything with this price!! We found that one of the staff was very helpful. The café next door is fantastic. We had a breakfast and after dinner coffee & desert every day there!

Pleasant - good value but nothing special

I had a pleasant stay at the Vice Rei but thought the welcome from reception was a bit brisk at times. The room was quite tired but represented good value for money and the room was clean. I would stay again but there are probably better options out there.

The hotel is in Boavista, which is well connected by Bus and Metro to the Centre. It is a 5mins walk from the CasaDaMusic metro stop, and frequent buses to the Centre stop nearby. Lots of good bistros/cafes in the neighbourhood - and right next door is an old-fashioned up-market cafe for an evening coffee+pastry. Good for access to the (Southern) University Campus. Breakfast costs €3 (but I was charged €3.50!) and consists of dreary rolls and unpalatable cheese+ham. Even worse, it does not start until 0745 - so it is better to avoid this and use one of the cafes. Unfortunately, the extraction fan in the bathroom does not work, so your room is filled with steam, and so is damp. Even worse, this means that the cleaners open the balcony door to refresh the atmosphere whilst you are away. This means your room will be freezing in Winter, and the carpet wet near the balcony. Horribly, this invalidates your travel insurance if anything gets stolen (as there will be no evidence of a forced entry). Hotel advertises itself as 4*, but really only 3*. Room clean, wifi works, quiet, bed acceptably hard with good counterpane, lots of power outlets, English spoken by desk staff. Would stay there again, and was good value for money (off season).

This hotel was outdated and worn down. It was okay for a few nights.
The cleaning was not impressing. The bedding had stains and there were long black hair around the room and on the towels.
The breakfast was very standard.

Good price/quality but room for improvements

The location of the hotel was quite good to use as a base to explore the city. The price and quality were in good balance although there were some issues. First the negatives: There was massive construction next to the hotel during my stay. Obviously they can't do anything about that. There also wasn't a steady shower temperature, which was a bit frustrating. There were long black hairs on my bed and floors when I came in, which didn't give a good first impression. There were quite a few homeless people nearby the hotel at night, but I can't say I ever felt unsafe. (and that's the case in many other cities too) There was a note that the hotel wouldn't take responsibility for stolen goods, which didn't make me feel happy about leaving my laptop there. There was only a tiny safe in the room but it was pretty useless and would cost an extra 1 euro per day. The bathroom was quite small and dated. The positives: The staff was friendly and helpful. Room service cleaned and tidied daily. I actually slept really well there, even without having to use the available airco. The breakfast was pretty good and one of the cafeteria exployees was super friendly, Miguel I believe? In Portugal customer service is often lacking so he was quite refreshing. The hotel itself is also quite nice and charming. I also used the hotel laundry service which was excellent. Overall, I would recommend the hotel.
