What an absolutely gorgeous hotel. Post war, but with old world charm. Huge ceilings, floor to ceiling windows and a balcony. Our room was giant. Beds were comfortable. The breakfast is an extra fee but worth it. Delicious and plentiful with lots of healthy options as well as the usual meats and cheeses. It’s a half hour walk from old town so if that’s your jam, you never have to take public transit.

No elevator but otherwise great!

The location is amazing. Close to the train station and in the heart of sachsenhausen walking distance from a lot of great restaurants and bars. I loved the old house charm and decor with really quaint wall papers. The only issue is there is no elevator. So not great for older people, people with disabilities or if you have lots of luggage unless you can get a room on the ground floor. Even the entrance is not wheel chair accessible as there are a set of steps to get in.

Lovely stay

We quite enjoyed our stay at hotel am berg. If you don't mind a trek uphill at the end of your day, it's a wonderful place to stay. Comfy beds, great water pressure, and a tasty & large breakfast (optional, €15 each). The folks working there did speak English which made things a bit easier. They were very accommodating, even letting us borrow silverware when we brought food back to the room. There's plenty of food options in the surrounding area, including a small market. Very clean, the room was serviced daily, too.

An enjoyable Stay.

We arrived in the afternoon and left early the next day. The Hotel is located within walking distance of Sudbahnhoff and once there its a short hop to the City Center. Or you can take a 15-20 minute walk to the entertainment district of Sachsenhausen. The Hotel itself looks worn and old when you enter. The carpet on the stairs has definitely seen better days. My wife thought they are in the process of renovating. However, I won't ding them because the room itself was modern and spotless. The power window rolladen were a very nice touch. The bed was comfortable. Staff were friendly and a very affordable price too. Finally parking was easy and free. This is a big deal when you go to Frankfurt. So I don't want to be negative because overall a very enjoyable stay.

Lovely hotel! Owner was very kind and waited up for us when our plane was delayed, since he had no way to contact us! Lots of old world charm in the rooms: exactly what American travelers are looking for in Europe. Clean and comfortable setting. Wonderful breakfasts with selection of bread, fruits, and cold cuts. We looked forward to it each morning. Convenient location near bus lines and south station. Really can't recommend enough. Thanks for an amazing stay for my family!

This place is a gem! Beautiful, old, historic, quirky. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. There are great dining options a short walk away. We took an Uber to the \"Old New City\" and had a great time walking around and enjoying the vibrant local community and admiring the beautiful architecture. But be forewarned: this hotel doesn't have an elevator so if you have heavy luggage be prepared to haul it up the stairs. Their friendly staff will of course offer to help. I couldn't tell if the heaters in the bedrooms are also air conditioners, but with the window open and the fan running it was fine in the June temps.

Great night in Frankfurt

This was such a fun place to stay! It definitely isn't a typical chain hotel. It is relatively close to the bus/train/underground station. If you are traveling by foot be aware that you will be walking uphill from the station! I did not have breakfast because I had an early flight, but I did get to enjoy my private balcony in the evening.

My wife, daughter and I stayed at Hotel am Berg for two nights in November. The staff were incredibly friendly (the day-time clerk, whose name I can't recall, was a wonderful help when it came to navigating the subway and knowing which stops would get us to and from the hotel to the various places we wanted to visit; he even helped us find a shop that would have a relatively obscure item we were interested in). The room was huge. The decor was a little dated, but that honestly added to the charm of the place.

It's located in a pretty quiet residential neighbourhood, but very close to a subway station, so getting around the city was easy despite the hotel not being near the major retail and tourist areas. If you don't mind taking the underground, this location is probably better than being at a hotel \"closer to the action\" just because it is so much quieter and easier to get a good night's sleep.

If I am ever in Frankfurt again, I would definitely stay here again.

The Hotel needs attention (in and out) The carpets were worn down with visible dirty stains. This a Historic building that is being marketed as a Hotel which is not accurate, the place looks like an old pension for long-term guests. Our room was large with old decorations and inexpensive furniture; the bathroom was also large and aged. The breakfast room is tastefully decorated (vintage décor) with access to a lovely garden patio. We took a 20-minute cab ride from the Hotel to the Frankfurt Historical center (back and forth) I doubted the center is at a reasonable walking distance. Moderately price with free parking; the staff is bilingual and pleasant.

AMAZING! It was our first time at Hotel am Berg and definitely will not be our last; as it was an amazing experience. From the second we walked through the front door until we left, we were treated as their special customer. Michael, Wolfgang Kurz and all of the staff went over the top to
make sure everything right, gave us directions to the best places to eat, stores etc... And the breakfast too was so good and the staff hands on and made you feel glad that you were there. The best in Frankfurt ~

An old home. It was unique. No elevator so kind of hard to bring up heavy luggage. Little parking. Our room had a tub with hand held shower head which was fine but only had part of a \"wall\" so water got all over the floor. The staff was helpful, although a bit too chatty and hard to escape. I wasn't well so they were nice enough to bring up breakfast 2nd morning and let us stay a little late.

Location was perfect.

We had a 24 hour layover in Frankfurt and wanted to make the most of it. Although the hotel is easily accessible by public transportation we had luggage so we took a 15-20 min cab ride which cost about Eur 35. The staff was super / welcoming, accommodating, helpful with our luggage and ready with directions and advice. Good food, drinks, skyline, and shopping are all within a 10 min walk. Breakfast was over the top! Great stay.

Beautiful old house in a great location

The hotel is a nice old building with large rooms/bathrooms and very high ceilings. The room was simple but sufficient. The staff was very nice and helpful. The hotel is walking distance from an area full of bars and restaurants and a nice walk (about 20 minutes) from downtown. The hotel is not fancy but it is comfortable and we would gladly stay there anytime we visit Frankfurt.

Historic comfortable charm

Our last few nights in Europe were spent in this wonderful location and facility. The desk staff were very helpful and friendly(even carried our bag up the stairs). They always had a smile on their face. We were close to public transit,the breakfast were great and the room served our needs for the three nights we stayed. We found several restaurants within a 10 min walk. We were able to park our car safefly and overall this hotel gave us a great ending to our holiday! Thanks

Too cool!

Hotel am Berg is one of the most interesting, funkiest places we have ever stayed at. An old mansion in a pretty residential neighborhood, every room is unique and all are filled with supercool 20th century antiques. Our room was enormous, over 500 sq ft, with 12+ foot high ceilings and full height windows--just palatial. The hotel is also a short walk to the Sachsenhausen neighborhood with lots of great food including many traditional apfelwein restaurants. Also, free parking and easy access to the airport.

The room smelled bad. Carpet and furnishing were old. The bathroom has a low, slanted ceiling, requiring the guest to hunch down when walking to the toilet, which was strangely located on the far side of hte shower. There is no elevator, making it very difficult to carry a heavy bag up to the room.

We spent the first night in Germany at this hotel before we left Frankfurt. The next morning we went to the old city which was about a 15 min walk and left our bags at the hotel as we had a 3 pm train.

The rooms are all different and the beds very comfortable.

I would stay here again if the opportunity presented itself.

The hotel has a lot of character and individually designed rooms. The bathroom was o.k. but could do with some updating. The staff we met were very friendly and helpful. The only drawback for us was that the reception closes at 10 pm so you have to make special arrangements if you arrive late. Unfortunately, someone forgot to make the agreed arrangements so we had to ring the bell a few times before a friendly man turned up to let us in late in the evening. A bit more flexibility by the hotel would be helpful for guests arriving late.

Quiet and Convenient

We came back from Eastern Europe and had one night to stay in Frankfurt before heading back to the U.S. I chose this hotel based on price and proximity to a major rail station. It is located near the Südbahnhof only 15-20 minutes from the airport; take the S8 or S9 train to the Hauptwache station and then transfer to any one of four U-Bahn trains heading south. The man at the reception spoke impeccable English, and though the breakfast was not included in the hotel price, it was quite good. An excellent selection of meats, breads, yogurts and cereals, and the waitress was attentive. Each hotel room is unique, and we were happy with the one we got. The weather was very, very hot -- unusually so -- and so sleeping was uncomfortable. However, the room did come with a very large oscillating fan, which made it bearable. The hotel is located in a quiet, mixed-income residential area among expensive single-family homes and nondescript \"Plattbau-Wohnungen\". The neighborhood was very clean and felt safe. From the train station to the hotel is about a 300-yard hike, half of it up a fairly steep hill. But the flip-side is it's downhill back to the train station. Lots of high-quality restaurants nearby on the other side of the tracks. The hotel is very close to the city center by U-Bahn. Would stay here again and recommend it highly.

We stayed on our way back home from international travel. This hotel is old, but with charm, character, and large rooms (we booked a superior room). It is located just up the hill from the Frankfurt South train station, with a good amount of bakeries, restaurants (on the same & opposite side of the station), and even a grocery store a two minute walk away behind kids park right next door! Staff were friendly and could offer us a crib for our son and dishes to use to eat in our room as we were too jet-lagged to go out. We would stay here again.

Really light, bright room.

We stayed in room 12. The price was fair. The room itself was large, really large infact, with a balcony aswell. Had a large shower room and separate large toilet room. The only downfall i would say was the bed was squeeky, this might be a problem for some, but we were just driving through and were tired. There was free parking at the hotel. The hotel was fine, no problem, correctly priced. To get into the city centre was really easy to catch the subway/underground that was 5 mins walk away, then 2 stops to the centre, (so probably could have walked but we didn't know the area). The staff were also very polite and helpful.

We liked the small yet homey feeling from this boutique hotel.We were met by one of the many people who work at the front desk .He spoke english which made us a little more comfortable .Showed us places of interest ,gave us maps of sights and restaurants and appflewine taverns that we should visit.Gave us a little local hotel history and showed us to our room.No elevator so we had to walk up 1 flight with our bags .The room was big with double doors on entry an old world feel with high ceilings and a king bed and a nice big bathroom.They also serve breakfast in the hotel which was absolutely huge .It consisted of a meat and cheese plate,fruit cocktail,buns,eggs to order,fruit cereal and yogurt table as well as coffee or tea.We only had it once and were absolutely stuffed .If your a big eater it was well worth the money. The hotel is in a residential neighbourhood with schools and playgrounds and a REME market close by for snacks ,beer, wine or anything you need.Close to restaurants and taverns all within walking distance and close to transit .We walked everywhere across the Maine river bridges to Romer area where there was plenty of shopping,restaurants, old churches and the city hall which is over 600 years old .We enjoyed our stay here and we felt like locals by living in the residential area.

Each room is unique. We stayed there for 1st night before leaving for another city. The room given was unique with a slanted window. Then we were told that we will stay on the first floor when we returned, as I have heavy lagguages. The room was big, enough for 3-4 persons, with nice balcony. It's near the U bahn too. Only thing is that the room is a bit smell each time we enter, but once you air it, the smell is gone. Guess it's an old villa. Service staff are very friendly and helpful.

She was very nice, explained in detail about how the building was rebuilt and how she got to own and take care of it.

Room not as advertised plus strange room policy

Be careful when booking your room. I booked two superior rooms that were well appointed. When we arrived we were given second class rooms. The reasoning of the hotel staff was that we did not specify \"NO CHANGE\" on our Expedia reservation so they gave our rooms to their regular customers, even though we checked in early. There was no place on the Expedia web site where we could specify \"NO CHANGE\". Our German friends who were our guests at the hotel said that they had never heard of such a policy. If ever we stay there again, we will try the \"NO CHANGE\" by telephoning the hotel. Personally, I think that we were lied to regarding the change in our room quality.

The hotel is a bit outdated, but the staff was nice and helpful. The hotel room and bathrooms are huge but again the decor seem outdated. Knowing in advance that we will not be in our room, it was comfortable enough for our short stay. The hotel is located near old town, and while it near some bars and restaurants, I preferred the area near the main market (karlplatz I believe) and the museum quarter. Can't really walk to those area, only bus or subway.

Old world charm with the city at hand

We loved this hotel! The first room we had had a cupola with a view of the neighborhood and a flower on the table. On the trip back we stayed three nights, also in a beautiful room. The staff was wonderful and helpful, and went the extra measure to make us comfortable. The breakfast was elegant in a beautiful breakfast room. The hotel is quiet, the neighborhood surrounding is quiet and it was very restful. The added touch of a grand piano in the breakfast room was wonderful. We needed a 6:00 AM cab to the airport and it was arranged and arrived on time. The area is residential, but a short walk (10min with a hill on the way back) to the Sudbanhof. There is a little bakery right at the train station entrance where you can sit and enjoy coffee and a pastry. There restaurants in the area as well, but we went into the main hub most of the time. From the Sudbanhof you go two stops and then change for another one stop ride and you are at the central train station. Very simple and doable. We chose this hotel originally because the picture indicated that it might have some character. It definitely does, a warm, family character, and staying here was an experience that we would be happy to have again in future.

The hotel is situated very close to the city, maybe 10 mins away or so. Parking is available (email them beforehand) and the breakfast was top notch. My only complaint was that the shower water pressure was quite low. Otherwise, quite happy with the hotel, nice and clean.

Wonderful stay at Hotel am Berg

We arrived at Frankfurt airport after a long transatlantic flight, took the #61 bus directly to the Sudbahnhof, and then walked the short way to the beautiful Hotel. They were ready for us and we were able to have a good nap in our spacious room (with a balcony!) before setting out across the bridge to visit the old part of town. The location was great and the staff were friendly. We didn't get the breakfast but it looked good and the dining room was beautiful. I would definitely recommend this place and stay there again!

I do understand the hotel is old and located in the historic building (which is very interesting by itself), but the bathroom could have been more convenient. Bath is standing in the middle of the room without curtains and the shower holder. Try to take a bath with one hand.

Vriendelijk personeel, traditioneel ontbijt. Kamer in souterrain met een raam maar geen uitzicht, schoon. Kapotte lamp bij aankomst, brandalarm dat piepte ook ‘‘s nachts , batterijen waren leeg maar werden niet vervangen omdat er geen batterijen waren.
We hadden het hotel geboekt voor de allure en vroegere grandeur. Die was niet aanwezig in de kamer in het souterrain. Vraag dus een kamer op de verdiepingen als u dit ook wil.
In het algemeen is de grandeur wel nog aanwezig maar gedateerd en toe aan onderhoud, waar overigens mee begonnen is , te horen aan de bouwgeluiden .
Locatie is goed.

古城のような外観の建物で、駅からの道中、ここと知らずにこういう所に泊まれたらいいのにと言った連れがまさにその建物に泊まると知ってずいぶん嬉しそうでした。歴史のある建物のようで、一度戦争で壊れたのか、廃墟のような状態からオーナー家が元通り修復している様子をロビーの写真本で拝見しました。大事に使われてきた建物だと随所に感じられます。
フロントロビーは重厚な雰囲気で、もしかして場違いに格式高い所に来てしまったのかと一瞬不安になりましたが、英語さえおぼつかない私達にもとても丁寧で親切に対応してくれたスタッフの皆様に本当に感謝しています。

今回、私達はスーペリアでベランダのある良い部屋に宿泊させてもらいました。素敵なバラの壁紙とシャンデリアのある、多分客間であった、趣きの部屋でした。見学したゲーテハウスを思い出しながら当時の生活はこんな感じだったのかなと想像していました。衣類のクローゼットなど古い鍵を回して開ける品の良い年代物で、何世代も使ってきたものを自分達にも使わせてもらっているようで、万一壊したらどうしようと畏れ多かったです。部屋の鍵も大きくて重くて(あと何故か二重。防音の配慮?)、どれも本物な雰囲気があります。
お風呂やベッド脇のライトやラジオ、WIFIなどの設備面は、最新設備のホテルのような便利に洗練されたものでこそありませんが、歴史的建物に泊まっているのだから私としてはそれでいいと思います。
シーツやタオルはとても清潔で、掛け布団はドイツ製で暖かかったです。あとトイレがきれいです。
あと、アジア風の部屋だったとのレビューを拝見しまして、今回のお部屋にはお風呂場の黒いタイルに中国の美しい風景画が描かれていました。もしかしてこれのことかもと思いましたが、やっぱり違うかも。ゲーテハウスにも北京の間という部屋がありますから、文化的リスペクトがあるのかもしれませんね。

朝食はコーヒーか紅茶から始まるコースで、フルーツカクテル、何種類ものハムやチーズ、メインの卵料理、4種類のドイツパン、デザートのケーキと、贅沢な時間を過ごさせてもらいました。別の方のレビューの通り、素晴らしい食体験でした。別料金なのでお忘れなく。

フランクフルト南駅からホテルは歩いて5分しない位の距離で、周囲はファミリー層が住む住宅街なので夜でも怖いという感じはしません。行きは登り坂なので、荷物が多いと少し大変かもしれません。駅からバスを使えば空港にも一本(30分くらい)です。
近隣の飲食店マップも準備してくれています。フランクフルトはグリーンソースが有名と教えてもらい、歩いて数分の地元の方が向けのお店を教えてもらいました。店員の方が親切で、美味しかったです。
広い駐車場があるので、車旅の方は市内にも出やすくて便利だと思います。ただ、私が感じたこのホテルの唯一の欠点は、水回りではなく、この駐車場ですね。ホテルの正面に駐車場があって、金網の塀で場所も分かりやすく車で入りやすくていいとは思うのですが、建物の雰囲気を少し損なってしまっている気がします。余計なお世話ですが。それに、もしここがいい感じの庭だったらホテルの格が上がってしまい、私には泊まれなくなりそうです。

本当に素晴らしいホテルで、ドイツ文化にまた少し触れさせてもらいました。

Einzigartig in jeder hinsicht . Das Hotel bietet eine Zeitreise in die Vergangenheit. Die Zimmer sind groß und die Ausstattung ist zeitgemäß und skurril im sehr positiven Sinne. Das Frühstück war ein echtes Highlight. Das ganze Hotel atmet einen Flair aus von längst vergessener Zeit.

Schon bevor wir angekommen sind, haben wir sehr positive Erfahrungen gemacht, mit dem überaus freundlichen Personal, die auf den Sonderwunsch betreffend Parkmöglichkeit mit unserem grossen Auto freundlich eingegangen sind und sehr hilfsbereit waren. Wir haben uns von Anfang an willkommen gefühlt! Danke!
Das Haus ist eine alte Lady, relativ gut im Schuss was bestimmt nicht leicht ist. Man unternimmt eine kleine Zeitreise und wir sind begeistert von der liebevollen Einrichtung der Zimmer. Jedes in einem anderen Stil, aber für Leute die das Besondere und etwas Geschichte mögen, perfekt! Die Lage ist super, und die Ruhe hier ist herrlich. Wir kommen bestimmt wieder!

Toller Aufenthalt mit leckerem Frühstück

Ein altehrwürdiges Hotel mit netter und familiärer Atmosphäre und sehr freundlichem Personal. Zimmer und WC waren sauber. Und der Höhepunkt war das Frühstück: so lecker und sehr liebevoll und frisch zubereitet.

Kamer heel proper en ruim in nostalgische stijl. Rustig gelegen in residentiële wijk en goed gelegen om het centrum van Frankfurt te bezichtigen. Een wandeling van ongeveer 20 minuten.
