Sat and worked in the pub downstairs and had amazing beer for 3 nights straight. The pub is lively, and you dont feel like a solo/lonely traveler.

They give coupons for drinks/snacks, and food as well. Very warm hospitality!

I felt really uncomfortable the whole night,the room was unbearably hot, and I had to sleep with 3 strange men as a lone woman, didn't feel very safe- I just couldn't wait to check out and leave.
The bed was comfortable and clean.

close to train station and 10 mins walk to The London eye and Big Ben! It is good but it’s too noisy at night time inside the bar and worst thing is needs to carry your luggage all the way to the second floor and male and female are shared bathroom, no privacy at all!

Its a hostel so wasn't expecting 5 star.
I was there because i had an early start the next day in London and it was a cheap stop over.
Staff was lovely.
You get discount for food and drink in the pub downstairs.
I was in a mixed dorm, this was ok. A little noisy in the night and im pretty sure at about 2am, someone decided to smoke weed at the other side of the room. I was up early so had to try and get about quietly so not to wake others.

Two nights 8/24-8/25, I recently stayed at the Steam Engine Hostel and had a fantastic experience. I arrived late at night, and although I was tired from my journey, the night shift staff member (possibly named Demetrius) made the check-in process seamless and stress-free. He went above and beyond to help me settle in, showing exceptional kindness and compassion, which I will never forget.

The rooms were clean and comfortable, making my stay even more pleasant. Overall, the Steam Engine Hostel provided a welcoming and hospitable environment. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great place to stay!

The area around Publove is great and also in walking distance of the train station. Upon arriving we were checked in and given the key to our private room. The room was basic, there was a rotating floor fan because no A/C or ventilation in the room or bathroom but a tiny window in the room. I wouldn't have wanted to be in there if that fan wasn't there, especially after showering. An Attic converted to a studio. The mattress felt like a futon, woke up sore. They have a restaurant downstairs which was cool but stopped serving at 10 which would have been cool to know because we were starving. We were directed to a nearby supermarket and some restaurants. Most of the restaurants were closing so we went to the supermarket to pick up some food and of course come back to find no microwave or kitchen available to guest. Its setup as a hostel don't really have the main amenities.

The hostel was how you would expect and I managed to get a decent sleep for a very early start at work. The bunk bed could have done with a little bit more overhead room (couldn't sit) but I was only there to sleep so not a bother.

i stayed there for sure.

the only sour note of this stay was at the very end as i was leaving the hostel at 4:30am on a Monday and the overnight clerk wasn't very helpful with checkout. he told me to leave the key card on the bar top, which i did, then i asked him how to go about unlocking the door, and he eventually walks over, then reaches up to a lock as if it were completely obvious to me in a dark room. very rude guy. but everyone else (almost everyone else) was stellar.

The staff was really nice and to be my first experience sharing a room with others, I felt safe. I also appreciated how clean everything was. The only thing I would suggest is making the showers more private, since the door allows water from the other shower to get into yours. Lastly, I have to point out that they sell good food at an excellent price (to be in London).

Not very happy staff,carpets are dirty,only 2 showers for 4 or 5 rooms with six beds in it,one shower cold, other just warm water.
you can here music in the pub downstairs till 11ish pm, lights out side very bright which shines into the room with no curtains or blinds,beds were clean and comfortable though.

Great location, friendly staff, needs a deep clean

Great location and the staff was very helpful and friendly. The living quarters are a bit of a letdown. The bathrooms were very dirty and smelled, it reminded me of an outhouse. The sleeping area was a little bit better. The beds are fairly comfortable, there are no curtains for privacy, no AC, and there is no place to store your luggage. I have stayed in much better hostels.

The accommodation was very convienient for my three day visit to the Elephant & Castle location. Although the accomodation was basic it was well maintained and clean throughout. Very impressed with the friendliness and helpfulness of the downstair staff. Prices very competative and ggod value for money. Would certainly use again.

The staff at this hostel were nice, but the hostel itself was in disgusting condition. My room was dank, smelled like sweat and had no AC. The bathrooms were dirty, didn't work well, and one was out of toilet paper. Also: I woke up to two people hooking up in one of the bunk beds below me. Really had to fight the urge to start singing \"We found love in a hopeless place\" at them. I'd only stay here again if I were absolutely broke and had no other option.

Nice location but mismanaged.

Close to major attractions. Food is good. Limited breakfast but reasonable. Bathrooms are not very clean. But bed allocation is totally messed up. Both of us were forced to take middle beds when we had explicitly requested and were allocated 1 lower bed. Other people had just take our beds and when we asked hostel staff they forced us to take middle beds even when other beds were available and promised us other beds next day but next day same story continued.

Most staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was above average with cereal, milk, coffee, oj, bread, butter and jam. Room was alright with attached shower. Common showers and toilets seem to be perpetually flooded a little though.

If you only need a bed, great location

The staff seemed to be in turn-over so they were newer and not totally sure about the routine (mostly in the restaurant). The 12 bed dorm is 3 tier-bunk beds and there is no place to sit or back your bag besides the floor. There are lockers in the room but they are not big enough for your bags. The bathrooms are old but clean and always stocked with toilet paper. Considering we were only in the room to sleep, it worked well with our budget. The plugs were only along one wall but there was an extension cord for another plug along the other wall.

Great spot if you aren't expecting a hotel. Staff were great, food and drinks were awesome. Bed is small but comfortable and clean enough. Bathroom and shower could use some work. It's close to 2 underground spots so you can get to most sites in under 20 minutes. Overall i Would recommend to anyone.

Don't be afraid of 11 strangers.

London was the last stop of my trip in Europe in 35days. I was worried of my budget since it would be my last stop so I needed a cheap place for staying. I thought the price was unbelievable when I found it out on hotels.com, and realized the price was reasonable when I arrived. I stayed in 12 beds room. There were 4 bunker beds and each bed had 3 beds. Mine was fortunately the bottom one and I liked it although I couldn't even sit up on the bed. There was not so much free space for luggages so it was inconvenient. I don't know how many beds the other 3 rooms have, but there were only 2 showers and 2 toilets. I worried about it but I went back to the hostel early in the night and there was no people using shower so I didn't need to wait for a shower. The breakfast was so so. They provided cereals and toasts but I hope you not expect so much about it. They seemed like they cleaned the hostel every morning. It was pretty clean. Overall, I was satisfied with my staying in the hostel.

EPIC TRIP TO LONDON

It was a wonderful trip to London!!! I think I couldn't have found a best hostel than The Steam Engine. It was really well located, comfortable, it had a bar downstairs, and I even met some students which made my trip even more EPIC!!! I recommend this hostel without any doubt.

I booked a 9 bed room based of the pictures provided, and they were very misleading. The room was incredibly small, with 3 triple bunk beds, and the floor space was enough for only about two people to walk around. There was absolutely no room for luggage, making it a hassle with everyone in the room. The personal lockers required you to buy their thick padlocks at the reception, which I found to be very inconvenient. There were only two bathrooms and showers for everyone, and they weren't the cleanest- very rarely could you find soap or paper towels. The location was good, about a 15 minute walk to Big Ben, with a tube station right up the road. But, if you are a solo female traveler like I was, I would not recommend walking around at night, kind of sketchy. I would not stay there again.

Cheap but not chearful

I stayed one night only. It is a true 2 star. I think I had too high expectations. I have used a hostel before- just once- and was outside London. Thinking back: The room here is very crowded. The walls are cracked and the mattress I could feel all the springs on my ribs. The toilets were quite dirty- there were some dirty pants hanged on a wall and a dirty towel on the floor and everyone was stepping on it. However, I felt safe in this place and it is very close to London eye and other attractions. And the price was more than convenient.If I really had to stay here again, I would but not as a choice.

Good but not perfect.

Pub Love wasn't a horrible place to stay but there were issues with the two bathrooms upstairs. One of them always seemed to be out of service and having to share one toilet with 20 or more people isn't the easiest thing to do. I stayed in the dorm with 12 bunks, but I wish I had stayed in one of the others and paid the extra money because the metal framed bunks moved at anyones slightest movement.

With that being said, I would stay at the hostel again. It was a great central location and super close to the Tube. I value that when I'm traveling alone and plan to stay out late. The staff was super friendly and helped out whenever needed.

Reception and bar staff member was very helpfulucky and carried my luggage to the room.
Evening food menu limited and if expanded would be good.
Great to have the breakfast but water for tea and coffee not hot enough in the urn.Customer service at Breakfast not very good and guy should have been more attentive not watching computer or TV whatever he was doing.Would have liked some protein in the breakfast as had to expend a lot of energy travelling and walking into London. I didn't like the plastic cutlery and crockery.

Location: on a quiet street above a quiet pub (drinks a bit expensive, food is ok) 5 minute walk to Underground station.

Staff: Very friendly and helpful.

Room: Bed was lumpy but it kinda felt like a massage! Three-tier bunks mean it is hard to get into the middle one. Clean.

Showers: Only one of the two seemed to work. Very cramped and didn't drain properly.

Security: have to use a code to get in to the rooms, and then another code to access a room. Lockers available to use inside the rooms (bring your own lock).

Escolhi esta opção p ficar perto do hotel dos meus amigos. É ok, bem calmo, não tem muitas opções p comer à noite, mas é seguro e perto do metro. O hostel fica em cima do pub. Pelo preço, eu não esperava muito, mas me arrependi pela economia. O quarto é muito apertado para tanta gente, as camas fazem barulho, os lockers são pequenos, mal tem espaço para tirar o sapato. O banheiro é a pior parte, haviam 3 quartos no andar, mas só 2 toiletes e 3 chuveiros, cuja agua de um box entrava no outro e certamente não eram limpos com frequencia, estavam muito sujos! Não troquei uma palavra com o staff, não são tão receptivos.

仕方ないから枕元に置いた。
ベッドに入ると室内照明が皆無に近いのでスマホのライトを利用した。
だめなところを挙げるときりがないが立地だけは申し分ないので寝に帰るだけの場所と割り切る分にはコスパとしては良いと思う。

So I ordered teo beds to sleep in for two nights. I normally never slep on a hostel but wanted to give it a try. First it seamed fine. We got everything done. But then you have to buy a locker for your “closet” and have to rent a bathing towel. So it doesn’t even make any sense to me for “saving” money. The location was great and the food was also ok. But overall terrible service. They had overbooked the rooms, so at 12 at night a staff member wroke us up. Because some Russians had taken ours so we took those at the other side and no one had claimed them. So we didn’t think there was an issue. And there was two beds left over.. They hadn’t any organizing or control over their own system. I booked a real hotel because I didn’t want to ever waste my time or money on this ever again. And hope that nobody else ever does

Me gusto que esta a 8min aprox de la estacion de tren.
Los baños estaban sucios.
Si mal no recuerdo tienen letreros de no hacer ruidos despues de las 10pm y no hay quien regule eso.
Una habitacion muy pequeña para tantas literas.
Atencion del personal muy buenas, que es la misma de la del Pub

Die Lage war super und alles war sehr sauber. Das einzige, was uns nicht so gut gefallen hat, war, dass es erst ab 9 Uhr Frühstück gab. Wenn ich in London einen Kurzurlaub mache, möchte ich eigentlich recht früh aufstehen, um den ganzen Tag effektiv nutzen zu können. Aber in der Nähe hat man gutes Frühstück bekommen, sodass das kein Problem war.

Top Hostel in London

Ist kein Hotel, sondern ein Hostel, d.h. Mehrbettzimmer und beengt. Aber für zwei Tage London absolut OK. Die Schlafräume und Waschräume/Toiletten waren neu, effektiv eingerichtet und sauber - wesentlich besser als das was andere Hotels in London als 3- oder 4-Sterne verkaufen. Ein Schließfach steht zur Verfügung - Schloss mitbringen! Der Pub, in dem das Hostel angesiedelt ist, hat gutes Essen und eine Auswahl lokaler Craftbiere. Das Personal war höflich und gut drauf.
10 Minuten zu Fuß zum Themseufer. Tube-Station Lambeth North 5 Min entfernt, ebenso zahlreiche Busverbindungen.

Hyggelig personale med unntak av én person bak baren. Hun var ikke spesielt kjip, bare litt mutt og tydeligvis ganske lei av jobben sin... Jeg tror de er ganske vant til ungdom som reiser og ser etter billige steder å bo og med tanke på at det er pub i underetasjen er de nok vant til mye bråk og sikkert en del kjipe folk.

Rommet var ok, sengen overraskende komfortabel (jeg bodde på dorm med 9 senger - 3 køysenger) og de jeg bodde på rom med var stille og hyggelige. Opplevde ingen problemer.

De har låsbare skap på rommet, de var små, men jeg fikk plass til laptop og kamera inni mitt skap. Du trenger en tjukk hengelås for å bruke dem, men om du ikke har egen selger de dem i resepsjonen/pubdisken i underetasjen.

Det var ganske mye bråk til sent på kveld, så om dette er et problem for deg er ikke dette stedet å bo (det er tross alt over en pub), men som sagt, rolig på selve rommet og i \"bo-etasjen\".

Wi-fi fungerte ok, ikke superkjapt, men ikke dårlig.

Básicamente son unos cuartos en la parte alta del pub. El problema era que la litera se movía bastante aunque eso depende de la gente que se hospeda. La regadera tenía un poco de moho y los baños podrían estar más limpios. A pesar de esos detalles fue muy útil para únicamente pasar la noche y prepaparse para el día siguiente, el personal es muy amable y la comida del pub es buena.

Muito sujo!

Hostel sem elevador e acreditem não é o maior dos problemas. O banheiro é muito sujo! Muito mesmo. As portas do box estavam quebradas. Um dia o banheiro ficou inundado, sendo impossível entrar no banheiro. Um cheiro muito ruim. Parece que tinha dias sem limpar. Banho só com chinelo.

Hai per quello che paghi, pub ottimo come ostello un bel po' meno! Utile per dormirci spendendo poco ma con la stanza piena si fa fatica (12 persone a stanza con letti a castello da 3)

La cosa migliore del pub è la posizione ma anche il cibo, ve lo consiglio a patto di non essere schozzinosi sulla pulizia; questo non vuol dire però che era tremendo, anzi!

Süßes kleines pub und Hostel, Zimmer sind ganz inordnung, Team ist sehr freundlich, die Lage ist perfekt! Und das Essen und die Stimmung dort ist auch gut

Super beliggenhed!

Det var rigtig god service og alt i alt var vi meget tilfredse, der var dog nogle enkelte ting der kunne forberedes. Det var lidt støvet på værelserne så hvis man har allergi er det ikke det bedste. Noget andet der var lidt træls var bad og toilet forholdene, de trænger til en opgradering må jeg indrømme, men ellers var alt perfekt. Placeringen er perfekt og til den pris kan jeg kun anbefalde stedet!

Las sábanas de la cucheta parecían que las hubiera usado alguien antes que yo,no se puede obtener agua o algo para tomar si no es cuando está abierto y solo tenían cerveza, horrible

Conveniently located hostel

The hostel was in a convenient location and the staff were generally very helpful and nice, offering to print directions and plan my route to the airport.

The bed was relatively comfortable and the room seemed clean.

Unfortunately, there were only two bathrooms, which were not super clean, and I could not find an outlet in my room to charge my phone, resulting in me sitting in the hallway waiting for it to charge sufficiently.

Barato, mas com seus problemas

Apesar de ser barato para os padrões londrinos, o hostel apresenta problemas. Só possui dois banheiros para 40 pessoas praticamente, tornando-se uma briga para utilizar e tomar banho, e fora o fato de que os banheiros não eram muito limpos. Os dois únicos chuveiros você tinha que ter uma habilidade especial para conseguir água quente. O quarto passava o dia com a janela fechada, gerando um odor não muito agradável no mesmo. Em contrapartida, a cama, apesar de ser triliche, tinha um colchão muito confortável e um edredom grosso muito bom, que muitos hotéis não chegam nem perto. O staff do hotel é sensacional, para quem é brasileiro se sente em casa, pois tem três portugueses trabalhando lá. O que fica pela noite é um grande amigo, senta e fica horas conversando com todos. O bar no subsolo também é muito bom, com desconto para hóspedes na comida e bebida, e o hamburguer deles é nota 10. Localizado também bem próximo a uma estação de trem, sem problemas para se locomover. Wifi 10 também, não tive problemas.

나쁘진 않지만 다같이 흔들흔들 적은 화장실과 산위실.

워털루역에서 10분정도 거리입니다.더 근처 지하철역이 16년12월에 폐쇄되었습니다.직원은 친절하지만 1층펍에서 2층 숙소로 올라갈때 계단이 가파르고 많아 무거운 캐리어 들고가시면 힘드십니다.침대가 3층 침대인데 침대골격이 강하지는 않아 저는 3층에서 잤는데 한명이 움직이면 다같이 흔들리면서 진동이 느껴집니다.남녀공용 양변기 샤워실 딱두개씩있어 여성분들은 좀 불편하실수도 있습니다.와이파이는 되긴하지만 불안정합니다.아시아인들은 몰아서 재우는듯한 느낌이었습니다.저는 성수기때 숙소가 많이 부족하고 비싸서 묵었지만 숙소 선택지가 많다면 굳이 찾아 가실정도의 뛰어난 호스텔은 아닙니다.시설불편한거 감안하고 서양친구들과 1층펍에서 맥주한잔 하는거 경험하고 싶으시면 가보시는것도 좋을것 같습니다.아시아인들보단 서양인 비중이 높습니다.

à éviter, confort très moyen

Mon séjour a été difficile, j'y ai séjourné deux nuits pendant lesquelles j'ai très mal dormi malgré un matelas confortable et du linge de lit propre. Se laver était plutôt compliqué (abord des douches très sale). Le wifi dans la chambre était très fragile, je devais descendre au rez-de-chaussée pour m'en servir. Je déconseille cette auberge, néanmoins merci au personnel pour l'accueil.
