Ok but could be better

the family room (3 adults was so tiny that given one chair to sit on would have hardly left room for the luggage!
The bedding was off and the mattress was very comfortable for a bunk bed. The toilets sinks and shower areas were clean but afforded little or no privacy.

The hostel is perfect for a 1 night stay. You get exactly what you pay for. The service was great, the lady at the front desk was polite and helpful. Of course its not a luxury hotel, but the room and bed sheets were clean, a bit dusty but for one night it did not bother me. The bathroom and toilets were also very clean. Everything is quite old and the walls are very thin so it is quite noisy, but, again, for 1 night it did not bother me. Overall, if I ever need a cheap one night stay again in London, I would not hesitate to book.

Although the hostel had a lot of guests they cleaned the restrooms just once per day. The cleaning staff did their best but when a lot of people stay there the restrooms need to cleaned up frequently. The dormitory was clean.
It was also very loud during the night but the guests were not sensibilized to be quiet in the night. The staff on the reception were not so friendly and not interested in helping and supporting.
The location is very good.

This property, while a first glance might have you thinking dissapointingly, is a very decent and perhaps great budget location in London to stay. It's in a nice part of London, and you're not far from the nearest station. The neighborhood feels pretty safe and there are restaraunts galore nearby. I thoroughly enjoyed coming back on the tube each night and settling in. The only problem I could think of with the property were the showers. The nozzles are far too close to the wall, so you really have to press up to wash your hair or face. Definitely book here if you want a cheap stay in London.

I've Stayed on and off for 2 weeks. Wonderful location at the boundary of NW and NE. You can go to London centre by tube or bus (I suggest upper deck of bus if you're not in hurry). Generally, it's a great hostel, no smell or small \"animals/bugs\". There's a low cost laundry at the end of the street if you need one. Just need to get used to the opening hours of the reception and kitchen. Cheers!

The manager was friendly and welcoming but that was it. I don't mind basic, but it should be clean! Only the linen was clean,, dusty, dirty corners everywhere. Unfriendly warning notices about not keeping to your allocated bed etc (very strange). We couldn't open our window! The reception was dark and dingy - nothing like the picture and it was locked (only open 10-11 am and 6-9 pm). I won't be bringing my daughter there ever again!

The communication by Richard was excellent, however when I got there the outside was not overly welcoming, when I entered the building it was very tired and could do with a good clean and paint, there was a smell to it too.

I was very fortunate to have been offered a room by myself, but I could not stay the night, the room was tiny with a triple bunk bed in, the room and corridor stank of weed and I just felt like it had not been cleaned, there was paint peeling off the ceiling, wall and a huge crack in the wall.

The loo had used tissue paper on the floor and only half a loo roll left.

The shower had an empty bottle on the floor, I just could not stay here, so had to change my plans and head home after the show I was seeing, plans for the next day had to be scrubbed.

Its a shame through the quite time it was not deep cleaned and repainted.

I would not recomend.

The room I booked the beds in was extremely small. Unless you're one for claustrophobia, I wouldn't recommend. The bedside light didn't work and there were holes in the sheet. Asked to know where the restrooms where and was made aware that there was only one toilet and one shower available for both males and females. The kitchen is decently sized, however isn't the most hygienic and the microwave was sitting in a pool of water when we tried to use it.

Good stay for the price!

The guy at the front desk was super friendly and even helped us figure out times for different things going on in London! The bathrooms were really cramped, but were clean. The showers needed a bit of cleaning, but overall a great stay for the price! Only a 15 minute walk to many major attractions, and is pretty close to work good pubs and train stations.

London Waterloo Hostel's Detailed Review

Overall a great stay. Location is very good. Bunk beds in large room are clean and big. Power and USB outlets available in each bed for all needs. WiFi was good. Staff was helpful. Common area was good too. Kitchen was spacious and with all amenities. Breakfast was decent. Only thing I didn't like was the bathroom on the ground floor. The drainage was the problem and was painfully slow. Showering took too long because of that. Hopefully the management rectifies that. Would probably come back.

One of the most miserable experiences of my ENTIRE LIFE was spent here back in January. The rooms are boiling hot, they smell and by far the worst thing in the world was the bunks. The bunks are metal framed and not attached to the wall, therefore if you are unlucky enough to be on the second or third level bunk, any kind of movement at all will feel like an earthquake. This made it impossible to sleep (I only slept for around 2 hours per night for the four nights I was there)

Guests at the hostel don't care AT ALL about hostel etiquette. All but one guest in my dorm frequently turned the main lights on after 11pm and did this through the night and to make matters worse let the door SLAM every time they went in and out throughout the night.

The rooms are not very clean, the cleaning staff only appeared after a guest checked out and took the sheets. I never saw any attempt at cleaning while I was there, you should have seen the toilets and showers ! Dirty, soiled underwear just left in the sole bathroom on my floor for two days. The showers run for about 10 seconds before stopping (you have keep pushing the button which is seriously annoying).

To top off a dreadful trip, the general lack of cleanliness directly lead to me becoming seriously unwell (contracting a fever and a rash on my lips) which came from this pathetic DUMP of a hostel. The staff don't care.

AVOID THIS DUMP LIKE THE PLAGUE! A RAT NEST IS NICER THAN THIS FESTERING, GOD FORSAKEN PIG-STY.

It's clean and the staff is really nice... But there are bunk beds with three bed each, which is pretty unconfortable. Each bed has plugs to charge the phone even if you don't have and adaptor though. The toilets are pretty small. The price is good for London and the position is great! That's the bests part.

Not as good as you'd hope

I expected more based on the reviews. Nothing was as advertised. The rooms were not clean enough. There is no lights out policy which made both nights very uncomfortable, the Wi-Fi was intermittent, and the breakfast was also not as advertised.

False advertising (no private bathroom which I paid extra for). Tried to bill me on site claiming the system payment did not go through. I insisted no and he tried again and it works. Strange. Broken sink, loud hostelmates, snoring, TV outside is loud and disrupts sleep.

Staff was incredibly nice and helpful. Free breakfast was, while basic, really nice to have. I didn’t have any problems with wait times for bathrooms/showers or general cleanliness. The space was quite worn.

Can’t necesarially fault the business but, Roommates were surprisingly rude; worst I’ve encountered in my travels. Shared room with 11 others. They’d turn lights on in middle of the night, talk loudly early in the morning/late on night, rummage loudly through luggage, fell asleep without turning lights off, and generally didn’t tidy up after themselves. It may have been a one off.

Bed was fine, but I woke up with strange bites - I really hope they were spider bites. When I told staff they were very sympathetic and offer to Chamge bedding and move rooms.

The hostel has a very good location, its walking distance to tourist attractions like london eye. Bus stops are near as well as the Lambeth tube station. Cleanliness of the hostel is well maintained due to everyday cleaning and strong wifi inside the room. However, about the hospitality of the staff, I was disappointed. They are not friendly, no greetings and no smiles, as if I'm not a customer. The worst thing was when I checked in the staff didn't even offered help, so I carried my luggage bag which was 18kg up to the next floor and the same scenario when I checked out. I also hated the smell of chlorine that they used, its ok for the bathrooms and toilets but to use it on the floor?, its a health hazard.

The hostel was clean, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The kitchen was clean, with tea and coffee available. The inclusion of toast and cereal for breakfast is great. The mattresses were hard and we were unable to get a good sleep. The thin walls and cleaner being very noisy at 4.30am also contributed to our inability to get a good sleep. Overall not too bad for a hostel, especially for young people.

Very good experience. Good location (about 10-20 min to Waterloo Station), very-very helpful staff. Coffee-tea in the lounge available throughout the day. Room and toilet reasonably clean, WiFi was good. 3-tiered bunk beds, where you can't really sit up. But, very important detail - all bunks had 2 power sockets (UK & EU) + reading light. Not like some hostels I've been where you must stalk your chance at free outlet or leave your phone lying by the door. Room was also few doors from the shower.

Only stay here If you're really on a budget

They staff was nice. The rooms are a bit way too crowded. There was people over 50 in our room which was a little weird. We only lasted a night as I got bed bug bites. I've came to the conclusion that at 27 years I am just too old for hostels. I can't tolerate dirtiness, over crowded rooms with strangers and stinky people. Also, the showers are so tiny and suck you! I am 5'5 and 145 pounds and barely fit in there. You alzó have to press on the knob the whole time to get water to come, unless you're an octopus you'll be fine. This was my last hostel ever and won't be returning to one. I must say the staff was really nice and I got a full refund.

I had booked a queen bed and a single.When we arrived we got a triple bunk. As I am pregnant this was not ideal but they were unable to change our room.

Well all I can say is if you're worried about price then this place is ok but it felt more like 60s prison than anything else, there was one bathroom which the whole floor was supposed to share btw that's more than 20 people. Just don't do it. Pay a slightly higher price and stay somewhere else. I bought some food put in the \"kitchen fridge\" and the next day it wasn't there.

3 nights. 15 bed shared dormitory. 20-25 mins walk to Big Ben and London eye. River Thames is 8-10 mins walk. 2 bus stops nearby within 300 - 400 meters. Good WiFi. Cleanliness average. The room was way too small for a 15 bed dorm. Single-glass windows. Only 1 toilet on the floor. You have to pay extra for locker and towels. Breakfast was free but finishes at 09:00 AM (so you have to wake up early to eat). Breakfast is bare minimum with cereals, toasts, jam, tea and coffee. Only plus point is the location, everything else is low to below average.

Wouldn't stay here again

The only good thing about the hostel was the duvet cover - it was the best out of any hostel that I had stayed at.

Everything else was not very good - contrary to the name, it isn't even that close to the London Eye, the neighbourhood seemed sketchy and I was not comfortable walking alone after dark, the housekeeper through my luggage lock in the garbage when I went to take a shower, the beds were very creaky and went 3 high so you could feel every movement from anyone else sleeping in the bunks. The showers were the \"press every 10 seconds\" kind of shower and were lukewarm at best, the furniture in the common areas was uncomfortable and old and the bathrooms on the main floor felt dirty.

I don't have many positive things to say about the hostel. For the amount they were charging, I would expect that it would have been at least slightly better.

First off, I picked this hostel for how cheap it was. If that's what you want then this is the one for you. If you have other options you probably should take that. This place is a fire hazard. Our room was very hot and the \"fan\" they give you instead of AC was broken. And the window wouldn't open. So after i took the window shades off the window (without breaking them) I got in trouble the next day by staff for breaking the shades. Even though I just took them off properly. Otherwise the room would have been very hot. It was the only way to open the window. The next day they switched our room to a room with a fan. And they literally packed our belongings and moved them to another room. Very odd. I didn't like that at all. The bathrooms are clean for how dirty the hostel looks and the \"free breakfast\" was terrible just toast and cereal. That's if you can get into the tiny kitchen to eat in the given time with as many people that are trying to do the same.

It's horrible and dengerose to stay

I think,this hostel is dangerous to stay! Room is too small for 15 people and beds are horrible! You can't even sit in a bed, you have to crawl in and out. If it will happens an emergency you will be trapped in that bed because metal bars all over. You are not going to fall down but to get out in a hurry will be very hard. Smell in the morning so bad you want grab your bags and run out. I am wondering if London's Health Department approve this accommodations. Never ever stay there!

Tiny hostel but with great location. It's very noisy during the night and the rooms 12 and 13 are right in front of the smoking area so the smell can bother quite a lot... Lockers in the room could be a great addition because there's not enough space to have luggage in the floor.

An wholly unpleasant experience

Building is in a poor state of disrepair. Clearly little or no money is spent on it or the facilities.

The principle appears to be to cram as many people as possible into each dormitory/room. There is no secure locker or facility in the room for your belongings. You can rent a small locker on the ground floor for £1 a day, however, this means you would need to traipse up & down the stairs, thus defeating the whole purpose of having your belongings to hand.

There is no hot water available at the sink in the toilets.

In the room I was in, you were woken up continually by a pump operating, I presume, every time someone used the toilet/shower facilities.

It may be cheap, but it's not a place I would ever choose to stay again.

Stayed for three nights in March as it was a very good price and walking distance to the city centre. Staff were helpful and friendly. Room and facilities were basic but clean and comfortable. The overall decor of the hostel was rather worn but for 20 quid a night in central London I was more than happy.

It could have been so much better.

I was in a room with 15 beds. Very little room to move around. One toilet for 45 people. 2 showers for 45 people on the same floor except one was broken. I had to rent a towel for my nine day stay. One towel for 9 days. Water cost 1pound but beer was free. Mold in the one usable shower room. The floor smelled musty and the toilet seat was broken. Not to mention that there was a leak.

There were 20 beds in one room. I expected personal curtains for privacy but there was not. Breakfast was included from 7 to 9 but if you go little bit late the white bread or milk for cereal will be gone and no one restores.

Do yourself a favor and DO NOT stay here!

My roommate from college and I spend 4 nights here over Christmas which I hate to say put a huge damper on the holidays.

The hostel is further from the London Eye than insinuated; it is at least a 20 min walk from Waterloo Station and roughly a 10 min walk from the nearest tube station.

We got to our room which was a 15 bed dorm room. It was not properly ventilated and smelled musty. The beds were plasticky and the sheets smelled like bleach. There were only a few bathrooms that were shared for all the guests. Expect to wait in long lines. Further they are not properly cleaned and the floor in constantly wet.

When we arrived at our hostel on Christmas after a evening of celebrating, we get to our room and our beds were taken. When I went down to the front desk the man working was un-apologetic for the mistake of overbooking the room and giving our beds to someone else. He gave us beds in another room which happened to be filled with boys who were loud and obnoxious all night. When we got back the last night I realized that my bag had been tampered with and my coat had been stolen, ironically in a room full of boys. I realize that it's risky leaving things in a room but there is not much other choice when they don't offer lockers in the room.

We stayed in a Meiniger hostel in Brussels, Belgium and realized later that there is one in London among various other cities in Britain and Europe. I would look into those, you will enjoy yourself much more.

kind of on a random side street but not too difficult to find and not a far walk from the Thames Rivier. would recommend going back towards westminster for food. the beds were clean and comfortable and I didn't feel unsafe. it was my first hostel experience and I can say I am ok with doing it again! and would stay at this one again if/when i go back to london

The safe hostel

I showed up early and was told that they would hold my luggage until check in time. There are security cameras set up for your safety. There are combination locks on all the rooms. There is a room to lock up larger luggage and items for free. You are also able to rent smaller lockers for 1 pound a day. The free breakfast consisted of toast, coffee, tea, jams, 7 types of cereal from healthy nut and granola to a type of sugar chocolate cereal. There were two fridges, stove, microwave, and a complete kitchen set up. The matress looked brand new and the room was cleaned several times a day. There were three computers set up that everyone used. There was also free wifi through out the building. The staff behind the desk were all very patient and helpfull. The graveyard staff would spend hours cleaning every night with the bathrooms being cleaned at least 3 times a shift. The floors were mopped, trash collected, and all the common areas were cleaned each day.

Very good place to stay for siteseeing. Close to Parliament,Westminster and London Eye.
I stood on ground floor. There are only two showers and two cloakrooms for 12 people. So evenings and mornings were very busy. I can't say anything about noise,because I slept with stoppers ;-) Quite good place for short stay.

Not great hostel

The location was great, but the 15 bedroom was too many people with people coming and going at all hours. While that isn't really the hostels fault, it's tough to actually sleep there. There are way too many people for the number of bathrooms and showers (40+ people to two showers and two bathrooms). To make matters worse for us, the sink was clogged and so there was no sink for our entire floor and there never was paper towels either. There was also no hot water our last day. The kitchen was OK. The breakfast was really simple, just two kinds of cereal, milk, and bread to make toast. Most of the staff was helpful, but one gentleman was not very unfriendly and demeaning to guests. The WiFi did not work for our entire 7 day stay, and when we asked about it, they said it was our devices fault (we had no problem connecting to anywhere else and most of the guests could not connect). The price was OK.

Overall, not a good stay and we would never recommend any one to stay there.

Not too close to the city center

London is really expensive so the hostel is a good price, but is not too close from the city center, you always have to take the underground. We rent a room with 3 beds but we were only two, at the night one person open with the code the door and went to the bed to slept there, we saw it and told the recepcionist but they didn't do anything the guy went to another room, is not safe!!! Everybody nows the code of the doors.

Great atmosphere

Stayed at a few hostels now and this one has been the best. It is a little hostel located just south of Downtown London. Everyone guests and staff were very friendly and it has all the amenities you can want. The neighbourhood isn't fancy but it is not scary either. A couple of excellent pubs within two blocks. I was very happy with the stay and it was an older crowd where everyone seemed to gel and get along.

General Description

The London Eye Hostel is a convenient place because it's a 10-15 minute walk to London Eye. The hostel consists of many large rooms packed with triple bunk beds. If people don't use the luggage room or bring too much luggage, the rooms tend to be overcrowded. The faculty holds to single key to the luggage room, but does not keep a specific watch out for what is taken by what guest. However, the rooms are open to almost anyone. Essentially, leave your luggage at your own discretion. I personally used the luggage room for 4 days with no incident though people may haphazardly throw their much heavier luggage on your delicate luggage. There's plenty of places on the first floor to lounge around with a TV. There are computers available for use but I believe they do charge, but wifi is complementary. As for the complementary breakfast, it is basically continental style like other reviews say: a simple breakfast consisting of cereal, milk, jams and toast. There is a fridge to store your foods though. The showers, however, are hot-water capable unlike what some reviews may say. The problem, like with many households, is overuse or impatience. On my stay, the faculty were helpful and sociable. They kept to their business most of the time and will usually allow you some privacy (though there's plenty of people that pass through the hostel that may otherwise). This concludes my general description.

Cheap hostel close to city center

Chose it only because of the location and price. Free breakfast helped to save some money as well. Recommend to all who only needs a place to spend a night.

It takes a little experience

I stayed three nights. It took me a little time to become familiar with the facilities and the presence of others using the same resources for me to create a routine that worked and by the third night I was very comfortable. Keeping windows open was very important, so that the room did not become hot and smelly, but those in bunks nearby sometimes needed to close them for their own convenience.

It's OK for £14/night!

It was OK! One can not except much for 14 Pounds a night! But next time I'll go to London I will definitely save money for a cheap Hotel room instead a hostel. No more Hostels :-)))

Great time meeting new people

Especially if you are in the large mixed dorm room, it is a wonderful opportunity to meet people from all around the globe that are traveling in London. The staff is very friendly and relaxed. The breakfast is nothing special, cereal, milk, toast with jam or butter. The lobby is a great place to hang out and have conversations with others; people from other European countries, Africa, Asia, United States, Canada, Argentina and many others you may be surprised about. The showers and toilets are shared so you may have to travel between floors to find an available one. The cleaning staff made their runs everyday so every was kept moderately clean.

The hostel within walking distance to the underground and to the London Eye, Big Ben and Westminster Abbey.

It's an experience!

The first night was .... not really nice because I ended up in a room with a bad smell and noise!!!
The next three nights I changed the room and from then on it was ok...

All in all after a 4 night stay I miss my comfortable bed and sleep because I think that I only slept maybe 12 hour. The reason for it was too many people in one room, 15 making noise and coming home throughout the whole night....

Well I am totally exhausted but it was an experience which I won't forget positively and negatively!

P.S. For breakfast we had butter, jam and cereals! I missed the CHEESE!!!

Good location

This is a good location in London and you get what you pay for. Overall an enjoyable experience. It's worth suffering the bits of comfort for the affordable price of this hostel.
