The rooms were excellent and very clean. There was no restaurant open on the property. They can improve by including that in their description or letting guest know in advance. The water pump also broke for the day while being there. They were accommodating by letting us use a room near the hotel to go shower and use the bathroom in the mean time. However, we did have to walk out of our hotel to the next with our things. Once again, not their fault but very frustrating and inconvenient. You definitely need a car to get around if you are looking to get around the area to do restaurants, cenotes or walks in the city center.

Terrible service. Reception was largely unhelpful to me as well as the other guests. One could not even secure a simple fork. When I arrived, the lock on balcony door was broken and had to be fixed on two separate occasions.

The staff were amazing and the rooms I would rate as a 2- 3 star. … we paid over $800 for a 2 night stay. The amenities were scarce coffee / tea etc.The fridge was warm/ no restaurants / bar/ coffee shop on site but rather you were directed to what were identified as Sister sites for dinner/drinks away from the resort. The beach is very small and not at all what we expected . It’s a hotel that needs some serious updating the hot tub and pools were unusable during our stay as the water appeared to be stagnant. I don’t normally write negative reviews but we were very disappointed in our stay at Alea Tulum and would not recommend it for fellow travellers, particularly at this price

We had a lovely vacation at Alea Tulum with our 5 and 8 year old. The ocean view was breathtaking and we thoroughly enjoyed the pools as a family, beach walks, sea kayaking and use of snorkels, life jackets and water shoes to explore and visit cenotes. The room was perfect, and the front desk staff made us feel welcome and were very kind and helpful for anything we needed. We rented a car and enjoyed Alea Tulum as our home base for adventures. Thank you Samantha and the other Alea staff for a beautiful stay!

This property is way overpriced, it looks nothing like the pictures .
The room had small ant like bugs all over the floor, the last day and a half the rooms smelled like sewage in three out of the five rooms our party reserved.
The hotel sales its location as a hotel with two restaurants and a bar. Hotel Alea has neither on premises ( they are located a their sister properties instead). We booked a sky view room and expected to have the experience i. the pictures. The plunge pool was DISGUSTINGLY dirty along with other pools on that property. That is NOT wha I paid for and spending your hard in money to have access to this private pool on your deck is what i paid for . Pieces of the building fell off into the main pool.

This was the worst hotel I have stayed at and it’s not cheap at $500/night/room. The pool towels had stains on them, our sheets smelled badly, the toilet was not flushing for the first 2 days of our stay and the description of amenities is false. They don’t have a gym or any food service. The beach is very rocky and small - for similar price you can stay at much better places

This hotel is currently closed and I received no notification of this, hotel accepted my reservation and is still accepting reservations for tonight. I turned up to a locked door, found my way down a side alley onto the beach and into the hotel and it was like a ghost town, really scary as a solo female traveller. There was no sign on the door to say it was closed either. Tried calling hotel phone number and no answer either. I thought on my feet and made my way down the severely potholed road to the sister hotel Nerea where they told me I had been rebooked. I was really shaken up by the whole experience and very lucky I had my own vehicle or I would have been stranded. I tried on multiple occasions to speak to hotel management and was continually fobbed off and told they were out of town. I travel all over the world on a regular basis and have never experienced anything like this. I can’t believe both Expedia and Alea itself are still accepting reservations for this place. DO NOT BOOK, it’s a scam.

Very, very, disappointing, to say the least!...i payed $950. usd. For 2 basic rooms, for 3 nights. Rooms were very dated, and smelled bad. Asked if we can get upgraded since the place looked empy and was told they didn't have the availability. Lol. Wish i could've gotten a refund but they wouldn't. I was gonna post some pictures, but realized i didn't even bother taking any pics!! Pools were not even worth getting in. I say avoid!

I showed up in the property was closed for so-called “renovations for weeks“ and I was moved to a different hotel so I honestly can’t even give a review of the property cause I never even saw it. Except for one staff member on site I was barely communicated with at all about this situation. Don’t book with this hotel unless you wanna be scammed.

Beautiful, calm and peaceful place tucked away from busy Tulum city. It is our second time to visit this area because it is so beautiful there. Facility was beautiful but some updates might be needed immediately like broken hardwares and kitchen tools such as knife, pots, pans. Bed and service were excellent. We got almost everything we need immediately. You can have whatsapp chat with front office for any questions. The restaurant in the Alea was closed so we had to go to Mereva which is just few min walk for breakfast but it was not a big problem at all. Like most of shores, there are way too much seaweeds piled up so playing in the beach was almost impossible but they have lovely pools and they maintained it well. People consistantly removed seaweeds but it is impossible to remove which I did not know.

This place is AMAZING! We got moved to their sister hotel called Mereva and got upgraded rooms because something was under construction in Alea and it was so kind of them. They greeted us with a smile and took our luggage’s to our rooms, and we had ALOT of heavy big luggage’s. Jose Luis, Oscar, Felipe, Jose, and Luis were all so kind and we all loved having conversations with them each breakfast and dinner. They were the highlight of my stay here. They made all of our times there so memorable. They always knew my friend wanted a margarita when she came back to the hotel and they were always ready to greet us with 2 for sunset hour. They are bilingual and spoke English and Spanish to us. They have cleaning ladies and they made towel animals! They were so cute and impressive! The rooms are so spacious and beautiful. I love their aesthetic. There are pools in the room balconies and a big pool in the middle of the hotel. They are also close everything we went to. I could go on for hours about this place and how great it was. We are all so sad to leave and the crew became our friends. I will definitely be coming back.

We recently had the pleasure of staying at Atea Tulum, and we can confidently say it was one of the highlights of our trip.

From the moment we arrived, we were impressed by the hotel’s peaceful, boho-chic vibe. The natural design elements blended perfectly with the lush surroundings, creating a serene and welcoming environment.
The staff were incredibly kind and helpful throughout our stay, and the service felt personal and genuine. Our room was spotless and offered the perfect blend of comfort and style. It had all the amenities we needed including a complimentary mini bar.

We especially appreciated how close Atea is to both the beach it and our oceanfront room did not disappoint. The food was amazing and all the staff was very friendly and welcoming.

If there’s one thing we could suggest, it might be to heat the pool to swim in the evening when the temperature drops. Also, the jacuzzi was not functioning properly.

Overall, our stay at Atea Tulum was exceptional. We left feeling recharged and already thinking about our next visit. Thank you for creating such a special trip!

I was here for one night and two days- the hot tub was broken, the shower luke-warm, my breakfast cold (chicken enchiladas- when reheated they dried out the chicken), one dirty towel with brown spots on it, tv didn’t work and the door to the balcony was so so hard to open. Lastly, the reef out front is VERY rocky- not great snorkeling (and I’m a diver). And when I went to lay out by the beach the cushions need an upgrade, they were dirty and falling apart.

I will say I loved waking up to the ocean and kayaking, the glass water bottles in the room and the front desk lady was helpful- there were a couple times I went to the front desk and no one was there. Overall I wouldn’t return. And the cherry on top- at breakfast the waiter asked me “why did you come alone?” How rude- I had a work trip prior and was taking a day to unwind post. Also, this hotel is down a bumpy dirt road and my taxi passed the sign- doesn’t stand out. Just really below expectations all the way around and not the cleanest. Lastly, the pool is not really a pool, more like a splash pool and it’s small.

We just spent a week at this amazing boutique hotel and absolutely loved it! The best service in the world (especially Steven and Miguel). If quiet surroundings, solitude from not being around many people, nourishing food and the most gorgeous ocean blue are your vibes this is your place. We enjoyed the gym. Breakfast was made to order from their menu (the avocado/greek yogurt bowl with fresh roasted pumpkin seeds, chia seeds and fresh fruit was our favorite). The food was so delicious we ended up eating every meal there, and highly recommend the fish tacos, chicken mole, and mezcal sampler. The staff was super helpful in arranging our excursions, which included a pickup on the beach to go snorkeling, see the ruins and swim with the sea turtles and manna rays. The beach has a lot of rocks, so definitely bring water shoes (but they have some to borrow if you need it). We also enjoyed sea kayaking, in the shallow reef area, the beautiful sea breeze, ocean view room and mellow atmosphere. If I go again, I would pick up a few bottles of water at the airport and bring to the hotel.

Hotel is fine. Good food and clean, well organized rooms. the problem is the location unless you want to scuba dive. The road to the hotel is rutted, potholed and difficult to navigate. It is muddy to walk, and a long way from anything other than the sister hotels. The beach. is rocky and similarly hard to navigate.

Very comfortable hotel with nice small restaurant on site. Two other hotels in the same ownership group are nearby so that you can walk to them and share the facilities. The pool here is small and the beach access small but you can walk down to a sister hotel And enjoy a change of pace there. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. Very relaxed, low-key atmosphere far from the craziness of Cancun. Wonderful balcony and birds and stars at night.

Hotel Alea Tulum is open air with a designer pool area and outdoor seating for meals next to the beach. The beach is more rocky than sandy with sargasso grass drifts on the seashore. Across the dirt road is a wonderful denote. The staff is excellent! The food options are flavorful. There’s isn’t any nightlife within walking distance. Bars are in resort villas/residences/hotels. It’s quiet.

Avoid This place like the plague ! We booked last minute on Expedia so we had to pre-pay. What a mistake! I can’t believe people rate this crappy place this highly. For starters, you drive 1 mile down a dirt road that is badly damaged. I thought it was going to damage the rental car. We asked for our money back immediately after arriving and touring the property, but they would not give us our money back. The view was decent and the room was decent, but everything else was terrible. The safe was broken. The hot tub was broken. The pool was freezing and dirty. We booked a swim up room on purpose because we love to get in and out of the water but that didn’t happen. The beach was also gross with algae and seaweed. There was also a rock shelf that went out for about 100 yards that made it dangerous to walk out. Other properties in the area had built a dock where you could swim out past the rocks.. This property did not. Most of the outside dining chairs were also broken. There aren’t any sidewalks or street lights either. The electricity went out on the fourth day, alll day, of our six day stay and so we left on the fifth and they even refused to give us one day credit. The only redeeming factor was the food was very good and so was the service— only of the weight staff. The front desk personnel and management were terrible. Also a margarita was $17 as they have you captive.

It isn’t too far from tulum beach. We rented a bugbee and got there safely back and forth. The only thing I didn’t like was the bumpy road to get to Alea.

Where do I begin? We got our Expedia VIP Gold member upgrades- wine AND room! The service is first class. Everyone was sooooo nice and helpful!!!! If you can, get the penthouse with the ‘hot tub’. The view is BREATHTAKING!
During this season seaweed is plentiful. We were not able to snorkel but that should not be a factor. We took a quick drive down to Akumal beach and another day we walked right next door to the cenote (we kayaked thru the mangroves). I would ABSOLUTELY recommend this property to anyone! I went with a girl friend not my significant other. It was definitely romantic and I cannot wait to share this place with a SO.
My gf got on the paddle board. Water shoes, life vests, snorkel gear and flippers are provided for FREE! So you really do not have to pack snorkel or water shoes (like I did). The food is excellent, fresh and gourmet! The property was easy to find and we felt very safe. Just book it!!!

This property is one of our favorites in the area. It allows you to have close proximity to the beach and snorkeling. Although this beach is beautiful in different ways, it does not have clear white sand with no rocks, and that is understandable since the reef is located in front of it. Perfect for snorkeling! The amount of sea weed aka sargasso, is not under the control of any property owners in the peninsula, but with that said, and the fact that a hurricane had just passed through, it was in great shape. My husband and I really love the calm, relaxed vibe that this area provides. The food is always great and the staff goes out of their way to make you feel at home. My only dissatisfaction is that the fridges in the rooms do not keep the beverages cold. But some ice and a foam cooler took care of that problem and I hardly find that reason to complain much since they provided the ice.
Overall if you are looking for a vacation place to get disconnected from the rat race of the city life, this is it!!! But if you want to be close to bus routes and public transportation, or a mall and the night club seen, unfortunately your taxi is about a 10 minute walk down a dirt road. If you rent a car there is parking though. So this place is perfect if you want peace and quiet on the beach away from the city.

Note: The road to the hotel is a major limitation. The road is actually quite dangerous and some taxes refused to provide full service. Even going to town and back is a major dilemma with that road
If you have children or people in your party, who are injured or can’t stand a major beating on a road, please go somewhere else

The staff at the property was wonderful. Our child got sick during our stay and the front desk person was able to book as appointment with a pediatrician on a Sunday after calling several places. We had a great time using the pools and they were always clean. The included breakfast was lovely and delicious. We only had dinner once at the property because it was fairly expensive for what it was. The beaches in this area are mostly unusable at this time due to the seaweed problems they are having, but this beach was not as bad as others we went to.

I recently stayed at Alea Tulum, and overall, it was a delightful experience.

Positives:
The hotel itself is stunning, with elegant décor and a welcoming atmosphere. My room was impeccably clean and well-maintained throughout my stay. I particularly appreciated the daily replenishment of the minibar, which added a nice touch of convenience and luxury.

The standout feature of hotel is undoubtedly the staff. They were the most amazing team I've ever encountered at a hotel. From the warm welcome at check-in to the attentive service throughout my stay, they went above and beyond to ensure my comfort and satisfaction.

Negatives:
Unfortunately, there were a couple of issues that impacted my experience. On the first night, there was no electricity in the area, they have a generated so we could use the basic things, but not the A/C in the room. While the staff were prompt and professional in addressing the situation, it was an inconvenience after a long day of travel.

Additionally, while the breakfast offered a fantastic selection of delicious options, the service was quite slow. It took much longer than expected to receive my meal, which was a bit frustrating, especially on mornings when I had a tight schedule.

Overall, despite the initial hiccup with the electricity and the slow breakfast service, my stay at was amazing. The clean and comfortable room and exceptional staff made for an made for an enjoyable visit. I would recommend this hotel

Very nice small hotel. Great service; everyone was super nice and accommodating. Everything in the room and the property was very clean.
We love the restaurant serving Mexican cuisine.
We were swimming in the ocean several times a day, also in the cenote, that is just steps away.
Kayaks and paddles need upgrade, that is the only suggestion for approvement.

Love alea and her two sister properties here in Tankah. Quiet but close to Tulum it's the perfect escape from the crowds. Good food, nice staff and beautiful property. One of my favorite retreats.

I really liked the feeling of being away from people, we rented a car, took it into town which was like 12 minutes to tulum. We checked out cenotes everywhere and when we were tired felt so relaxed coming back to our hotel. The food is good at Alea and surrpunding restaurants i recommend trying them all ! Some.of the best tacos are in the middle of downtown go for a little walk its nice.

The 'suite' is really a largish room - no doors/privacy. Pairs well with a car. Town is 20 min away and taxis are ridiculously expensive. Got a lot of wind on multiple days in Jan. Not many food choices nearby and the service can be slow (and expensive). However, overall service and amenities was good. Area is quiet, unlike the main hotel zone. Property is nice. Would recommend overall.

Beautiful property with friendly and helpful staff. The restuarant was amazing as was the included breakfast. Nicely located about 7 miles north of Tulum on the the coast, allowing for tranquility but easy access to all Tulum and the area has to offer.

This was a wonderful environment to relax. The only issue was that it seems that hot water in the shower was not always available. The food service was excellent but slow. Also we found that we could dine at other restaurants on the row for some variation. Cost of alcohol was higher than other restaurants...very clean, staff super...even made sandwiches for breakfast when we had to leave at 6:30 am

Nice hotel on a nice beach!

Had 5 nice days at Alea!
Startet out with an upgrade to the penthouse - so nice!
Great location, nice beach - a little far from the town.
Nice and helpfull staff, with good language skills.
All and all a great stay!

Need to work on the room was moved to 3 room and still stuff weren't working. I literally checked out early because my complaints werent heard. The didn't even want to give a refund for the days i didnt stay

For us, the staff made it a great stay. Very friendly. Especially Eric at the front desk, Rafael and the young lady at the desk with the pinkish hair. Very helpful with answering questions and friendly. The thing about the property is the deck area needs some work, especially the stairs going into the water.

This was a very nice, clean and picturesque place.
It is located 15 mins between Akumal and Tulum downtown.
The staff were great, friendly and very helpful and kind. The food was really good and service was wonderful.

We arrived a few hours early and had no problem with early check in. The front desk staff were extremely welcoming. They gave us a tour of the hotel prior to bringing us to our room. The hotel was very clean and had a beautiful view of the private beach. All the staff we dealt with were extremely kind and helpful. The location is about 15 mins from Tulum and is a great place to unwind. The views are amazing and the private dock was a great place to see the sunrise and sunset. This hotel is a must if you are looking to stay in the area. We will definitely be returning.

Wonderful small property with lovely staff. Just across from a small but beautiful cenote. Walking to 6 restaurants with a few more to come in the couple of new projects under construction. Peace and quiet, great snorkeling, and close to Tulum without the crowds. Highly reccomend!

We loved our stay here and it was beautiful. The staff was honest and extremely friendly. Everyone that worked there remembered our names and made us feel very safe and comfortable. The actual hotel rooms were very nice and clean. They gave us snacks and drinks every day. There’s a cenote about two minutes walking distance and a few restaurants close by. The beach is lovely and clean and the breakfast is amazing.

The peace and quiet I needed

Though I spent only 48hrs here, they were my best 48hrs of this year.
The views, the peace and quiet, the sunrise, the full moon views, the morning sunrise yoga, the snorkeling and kayaking ... the friendliness of the staff, and I could go on.

Couple of pointers:

Access to the hotel is via a pot-hole-ridden dirt road, and it's in a secluded strip. Best to come with a rental car.

The churros-icecream dessert is to die for. Want this as my last meal on earth.

Not so good on the menu: the fish tacos, kinda bland.
