Do not stay here.
We were switched to a different room at check-in with no explanation. The floors were so dirty, covered with hair from past guests. When we asked for towels because the towels in our room were dirty and stained, they only had small floor mats, completely out of regular towels. The ceiling dripped all night and our bathroom flooded, leaving it covered in water and completely unusable.

This hotel failed on every basic standard of cleanliness and comfort. We are not fussy travelers but expect at least the basics. One star stay.

Attempting to communicate with hotel ownership was a challenge throughout.
Upon arrival, we experienced several significant issues. In addition to our room not being available at the promised check-in time, the room itself was in an unacceptable condition. We observed stained bed sheets, a stained mattress, very dirty floors, stains on the toilet and bathtub, and peeling paint.
Given the condition of the room, I was not comfortable staying there with my 16-year-old son. We immediately notified the hotel staff, showed them the issues, and informed them that we would not be staying. At that time, we were assured that we would receive a full refund. We secured accommodations elsewhere at our own expense that same day.

We were disappointed from the start. It took 30+ minutes to check in.

We booked a room with two Queen beds. When we checked in, we were told that they gave away all the rooms with queen beds. We paid more for that room and no compensation was provided.

The security is sketchy at best. The same code works for every room. We realized this when we accidently went the wrong room. We did not feel safe at all.

The room had a light with broken glass sticking out. It also had a very dirty bathroom.

Over location was great. Room was clean . Bed was comfortable. Honestly would stay again if it’s my only option. Staff was VERY nice. They had a place for luggage storage until check in and/or out.

Needed to call a phone number upon arrival and wait 30 minutes for a “code” to check in. Doors in hotel room don’t lock. This is an amateur show that should be avoided. Room was okay and it was cheap so if you’re okay with a crazy check in process and unlocked room then not the worst.

Very weird stay, I never talked to any person or saw any person working there. No front desk no cleaning staff. Rust all over the shower. The room is so tiny you open the door and it almost hits the bed. I can not believe the price point for how strange and tiny it was it didn’t give me a hotel vibe at all. I should’ve cancelled when I read the other bad reviews. Only thing good was location.

Room was fine, location was great. Cleaning was a bit so so. They didn’t charge the sheets once whilst we were there, didn’t restock room amenities like coffee or toilet roll a few times - my husband had to ask where to get it himself. The cleaner threw away food/snacks we had brought in which was annoying as we hadn’t even checked out. For the price we paid and considering we booked this for our honeymoon, we expected a lot better.

Stayed here for one night when I visited NY for the US Open. Location is great; not a far walk from 9/11 Memorial, The Battery where you can take a boat ride to see the Statue of Liberty. Subway stops, drug stores, shopping, restaurants all very convenient. Hotel staff were all friendly & welcoming! Downstairs a bit dusty from construction. Room could have been more clean. Shower had a very visible hair ball sitting near drain & lids to coffee cups were covered in dust. I was not a fan of the shower design. The floor got very wet because there is only a glass wall covering half of the shower. I did not like the overhead showerhead at all. Something more adjustable would have worked better for me. Surprisingly, the room was very quiet, so peaceful & quiet that I slept in! I like the idea of this hotel. Codes were easy to use.

Room was not cleaned when I arrived, was told by staff that I would be relocated to another Sonder hotel due to not having availability at the Sonder Duane. Management was supposed to assist with the relocation, but was of no help, had to reach out to the other Sonder location in order to get any sort of traction. Would not recommend this hotel

First and foremost, the staff and reps in the chats, and customer service for this hotel/company was top tier. When someone was at the front desk, *which was surprisingly pretty often* they were lovely. Very helpful, and really sincerely friendly. That is the ONLY reason this wasn't a 1 star, wish-it-could-be-a-zero rating, is because of them. Unfortunately, this hotel will take a lot of time, money, construction, design, and cleaning to be the hotel represented in the photos. My room smelled like mildew, -addressed IMMEDIATELY by Steven, who had exhausted other options and initiated the cancellation of the remainder of my reservation, with a full refund, no penalties. (ty, Steven;). Also, the exterior of the window was filthy, and when I turned on the air, it fogged up.ew. It was like a hostel but one with a nice bathroom, tbh. I was saving this next bit for the scathing email that I'm ready to send when that refund hits. I'll put the abbreviated version here to qualify the sad, "poor" rating.. I was awakened at 2am, by a Sonder employee from a different location, pounding on my door like a lunatic. Yes, there is more to the story- obviously. I may have made a mistake, but at the end of the day, I'm still a guest in this... place. It's a New York "Aparthotel", I mean?!! You have NO idea what people are going thru. I was so embarrassed. I couldn't get the sound of her banging with her whole back, screaming at the top of her lungs, demanding I open the door

The online check in process was a little inconvenient because I needed to send a pic of my driver’s license which made me uncomfortable. The room was small but very clean. No on-site parking so I had to pay a lot to park in a nearby garage. Check out was quick and easy.

The property is in a fantastic location, but overall the stay was just okay. Our biggest bug bear was that the room was really grubby and dirty in areas especially the bathroom lots of dust and grime around the corners of the room as well. The bathroom facilities were not in good condition the floor of the shower was. There were traces of mould on the ceiling and a clear damp issue.

I was not happy with hotel at all. When you walk in there is construction to your left that goes all day. The gentleman that was at the front desk was pleasant and I was trying to check in early as I was coming from another hotel I checked out of. He said check in is at 4PM, but would contact me when the room becomes available. I walked around for an hour and then came back and he said the room was available. The room was not the best. I was placed on the 2nd floor right above the construction that was going on in the lobby area below. The construction went on till about 6PM. Then continued around 9AM the following morning. There were also people outside my room taking measurements and being noisy. I’m not sure why you would place someone in that room knowing there would be construction going on directly below.

Shame; the photos looked great. It’s possible that I was unlucky with the room (very low ceiling with a cranky and noisy temperament ceiling heating/AC unit)… I'd have left if I hadn't paid the whole stay in advance.
The bedsheet had dirty marks on it, and underneath I discovered several long hairs. After I reported the issue, they promptly provided a new sheet, but the condition of the mattress itself left me uncomfortable.
The rest of the room and bathroom were clean enough.

The walls had zero soundproofing. (They gave me earplugs and a white noise machine…)

Location was good, and the staff was nice, but I won't be going back there again.

worst "hotel"

I was unaware this wasn't a hotel with people behind a desk to help with check-in. I got there at 11 pm, tired and ready to go to sleep and I couldn't get inside the lobby until someone let me in. They were doing construction and there were plastic sheets hanging down the hallway. Long story short I finally got a code, went to my room and could not get inside. So at 11:55 pm I left, asked the cabb driver to take me to another hotel.

Bad maintenance and rude cleaning staff

Property overall is nice and location is very convenient. Interior is nice and they have lockers to keep your luggage which is very convenient.
However, my stay was a nightmare: when I’ve entered the room, bathroom wasn’t clean, with dark hair all over, dirty towers folded and the shower brocken and dripping non-stop. When I’ve asked reception to call someone to fix it they said I had to step out of the room for that time, which I couldn’t as I had exactly 1 hour to rest and get ready for an important event. In one hour they said cleaners had left and they will fix it next day. Next day at 11 I was woken up with the request to leave my room because I was relocated to another room, which I wasn’t aware of. The cleaners were rude and when I agreed with customer service team that I’ll stay in my booked room they refused to clean my room or fix the shower, I had to be back and forth on the phone for 1 hour. As an escalation, reception deactivated my key and I had to stay in the hall for 30mins until service team activates my key. Horrible experience, I stayed in a room with a brocken shower, received no compensation for it ever. Only once customer service reached out to me and then never replied. Negative experience overall.

The overall stay at Sonder was not bad, however, I gave it a 3 star as the HVAC unit on the building failed and had to be reset thus resulting in our room raising to 81 degrees and after being reset, never falling below 77 degrees.
When I went down to request a fan as instructed by the concierge onsite, there was no one available.
Room was quiet, and plenty dark at night.
No shower door though, leaving plenty of room for water to get out and onto the bathroom floor.

The only thing that was great about the Sonder Duane was the staff--every last one of them was pleasant and helpful. The building seems to be an old hotel with a makeover that is now tired and showing wear and tear: the elevator is very slow, the hallways are narrow; the windows don't open; there were lots of spots where scratches had been painted over; and the shower grout was stained. The hotel was clean, but I missed having the room tidied on a daily basis.

THE WORST HOTEL EXPERIENCE EVER

THEY ARE AWFUL. I had no less than THREE different issues on a three night trip. I spoke with MULTIPLE customer service representative and they lied about giving me a refund (only sent me back partial of what was promised).

They moved me locations the day before I left and didn't tell me. Not within the same hotel but ACROSS TOWN.

They gave me a different room than I booked and PROMISED it would be the same but it wasn't and then they HUNG UP ON ME when I complained for the THIRD time.

The room itself was fine. Everything else was fine but because we had SO many problems and their customer service can't be relied upon I will NEVER book here again and I wouldn't trust them if I were you.

I stayed for four nights. No cleaning service. When I asked about it, I was referred to the Q&A section of their website. I learned that there is a $40 charge per cleaning. I wasn’t thrilled about the unexpected surcharge, but was really angry when I tried to schedule a cleaning and it wasn’t available. I won’t stay there again.

I was very excited about this stay. As soon as we arrived it all went downhill. The app told us how much would be owed at the hotel and that’s what we were ready for. When we got there we had to pay 145 that we were never informed about. The app did not tell us that the hotel wouldnt have anything available. No room service, no breakfast, NO COVERS, no restaurant as advertised and It was also advertised as having a claw foot bathtub that wasn’t there. We had to eat from around the area so that ruined our anniversary and broke our pockets and the hotel had already taken most of our money. Also the thermostat didn’t go up any higher so it was freezing both nights and they only had hard sheets to give us that “might help a little”. The only good things were that it was very clean and rooms were soundproof. Very disappointed.

The hotel was closed. They sent us a message hours before our arrival that we did not have the chance to see (we were getting married). When we arrived to the hotel an employee who was smoking outside told us they “relocated” us to another hotel down the street, the Hilton. It turned out to be significantly inferior in quality. All around a bad experience, on our wedding night no less.
