Honestly a wicked good experience. Felt extremely safe, everyone was very relaxed and respectful of each other. lockers in the room are huge, could fit probably two duffel bags in one and a section for electronics. Lock for it costs about 3 bucks if you don't have your own. Bar was cool, though it mentioned breakfast but I never saw food available, maybe you had to ask ahead of time. Walkable about 10 minutes to food and bars and train station is nearby. I traveled alone here as a woman and stayed in the co-ed dorm and felt really secure the entire time. Really recommend.

Cleaners steal, bad service, doent respond via app

Night i landed the bar staff was completely drunk. He was so drunk it took 20 minutes of convincing for him to serve a beer, deapite being the only person asking to be served. They refused to serve tea for 40 minutes because the bar tender didnt think it was manly. He then forced vodka drinks on me that i didnt want.

The cleaners doing the day went through my stuff and stole a packet of cigarettes the second day, and the third day my wedding ring that was on the counter was stolen by the cleaners. I messaged my complaints to the staff for 4 weeks via the app. They read my messages but didnt respond.

Its a shame because the stay was fairly nice, its the staff and cleaners that are dodgy and unaccountable thieves

Sparkly clean, friendly and helpful staff, spacious beds and dorm, high celing (the hostel is retro-fitted in an old looking building), easy and smooth check in and out, firm and comfortable beds (yes, beds again), 3 mins walk to the closest U Bahn, and I had a Glühwein upon arrival on the house.
This hostel is really beyond my expectation.
You can party in the library bar on the ground floor or sleep quietly above. The bathrooms are well maintained and cleaned.
Highly recommend!

Great place to stay!

Everything was great. The bar and the service were worderful. The bed was comfortable. Showers weren't the cleanest I've ever seen, but they were ok. Everything else (rooms and bathrooms) were perfectly ok. Would absolutely recommend! Also met several other travelers in the bar, and there's plenty of food/bar options nearby.

Excellent location for public transport to visit all Berlin sights. 10 minute walk to restaurants (all cuisines possible). Great room and bathroom. Good breakfast although slightly expensive. Great bar area. Brilliant team always available to help and provide information on what to visit etc. Definitely the best hostel we have stayed in (and we use hostels all the time when visiting places in Europe). Will use again when in Berlin next time. Very highly recommended.

When my friend and I arrived, the receptionist (Howie) was super friendly, funny, and helpful. We immediately felt welcomed even though we arrived at 2am.

The hostel itself was impressive. Seemingly clean and spacious. You don't feel cramped in your room.

However, after the second night, I woke up at 4am on the second night to find that both our beds had bedbugs. I was bitten on my face, ears, neck, and arms.

The hostel staff washed our clothes in the machine (the bare minimum) but refused to change our rooms. Considering if at least two beds in a room have bed bugs, it's safe to assume they're everywhere. When I walked in during cleaning, housekeeping was just changing sheets and vacuuming, yet this usually isn't enough when you have a bed bug infestation. They hadn't even let others in the room know of the problem!

After they told us we couldn't move rooms, I just felt like a sitting duck. I asked for a refund, which they only gave for the remainder of my stay (so I had to pay for 2 nights full of bed bug bites, thanks Grand Hostel Berlin!) and move to a hotel.

The receptionists at the time of the bedbug ordeal were short cold towards us––we thought our demands were minimal at the very least. It's as if the hostel hadn't dealt with bed bugs before, and if they had, they just shrug and let the visitors brave it out.

Happy with the initial reception, extremely disappointed in the lack of helpfulness in the end with the serious problem that is bed bugs.

Customer service, cleanliness and location are all A . I appreciate the Host giving us all the necessary tips to navigate the city. I would come back and stay here again without any reservations. It was super easy to get to and from via train. There is also a bus route a short walk away that takes you straight to the main central train station.

8 day stay.

I spent 8 days here (Saturday - Sunday) and it was so much fun. All the staff were on point with anything I needed. Places to go things to do questions about the hostel even as simple as just almost hanging out when I had some downtime to recover from the day at the hostel bar. Christian and Howard and Veerla and all the other around the clock staff really made it worth staying there. The breakfast was quite good as well.

Great place to stay for a low price

The place is really good and big and clean. Iran located in a good city area near Tram and Under stations so you can move around easily. Hosts are very friendly and always giving you the best advice they can. They have activities everyday which is great and the happy hour is great too.
Rooms are clean and nice. Totally worth it.

The check in process was extremely easy and very welcoming with the staff, shots on the house upon check in! The staff was always there with recommendations and our excessive questions about Berlin. The rooms were clean, and we enjoyed the communal bathrooms in the hallways. If I came back to Berlin, I would definitely stay here again!

Really good hostel! Definitely recommend

This is a great hostel with such a laid back welcoming atmosphere. The staff here are amazing, they are more like fellow travellers as they are so chilled and easy going. The area is really close to the ubahn station that connects to other parts of the city so getting around is dead easy. The rooms are nice and the single bed layout rather than bunk beds is way more convenient and comfortable. If I travel to Berlin again I will definitely stay here again.

Good for drinks and a peaceful rest.

Great bar with fun people. The hostel isn’t overly large so the staff is quite attentitive and funny. Have some drinks early or late. You also get a free check in drink. The room smelled a tad musty, partiers resting the night off. but it’s nice to not have bunk beds. Was able to sleep well.

Great hostel, was clean and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The only downside was that it was a little bit of a walk to the centre but there are good transport links with a metro station just outside. On arrival we were greeted with a cup of tea and were provided with a map and a lot of useful information about Berlin. There is a happy hour each day and i believe you can bring your own alcohol into the bar before a certain time. Rooms were large and airy whilst the beds were clean and comfortable, no bunk beds which was great. Would definitely recommend.

Our stay at Grand Hostel Berlin was great! The staff was really nice and helpful, the rooms were comfortable and the hostel is in a good location. One thing that is important to note is that the rooms don't have air conditioning or fans, so it can be a bit warm in the summer.

1. Very warm welcome on arrival. Smiles from all of your staff.
2. Central location in Berlin with almost everything I wanted to visit nearby.
3. 24 check in.
4. Beautiful building and rooms. Impeccably clean.
5. LOVED the library bar, extremely relaxing after a tired day of walking around Berlin.
6. The free German lesson, lots of fun and laughing.
7. The most comfortable hostel bed I've ever slept in. Sweet on pillow was a lovely welcome.
8. Quiet policy after 10pm - fell asleep within minutes.
9.Free welcome drink at the bar.
10. Staff happy to take time to recommend and point out locations on map.
11. Free Berlin guides to take.
12. Hot water 24/7 and easy to use shower facilities (rare in my previous experiences).
13. Fluent English speaking staff who were happy to listen and respond to my poor German (I'm still learning and this made smile so much).
Food and drink available until very late.
14. Delicious breakfast at a great price.
15. Staff member was quick to show me the fastest route to the airport when I was about to take an hour long trip!
16. A great selection of items to buy at reception. I forgot my tooth brush but had clean teeth the whole time!

Receptionists at both check-in and check-out were great. Rooms were clean, and toilets though shared by many were spacious and very clean. Really appreciated that. Rooms are are nice and bright too with high ceilings, and though shared, have key cards to each room.

loved the place for it's atmosphere and wonderful staff.

beds were comfortable and NO BUNK BEDS.. which was a nice change and ended up forcing people to chat to each other. I met and had some great chats with the people in my dorm because of it.

bathrooms in the rooms a little outdated but clean. great snazzy bar downstairs serving German beer for a good price and playing good music.

located near the ubahn that connects to main attractions and around the corner from fast food places that open almost 24/7.

glad I stayed here. I had a great experience!

BED BUGS GALORE!!

The staff is awesome. The bar downstairs is very cool - great way to meet other travelers and/or kill some time before you head out for the night. Not in a bad location either BUT - don't let these things this fool you. My dad & I had planned to stay at this hostel for 3 nights while we were traveling in Berlin until we were woken up by bed bugs our second night there! I had a bug on my jacket after our first night sleeping there & didn't think anyting of it. When I was woken up by the critters the second night, I turned the lights on only to find them EVERYWHERE! The beds, the walls, our belongins. Such an unfortunate event to happen at 3 am. The staff was awesome & hooked us up in a hostel across the street for the night, washed & dried our clothes & refunded us for our stay. But I was a bit upset to find out after the fact that they have had beg bug issues recently & didn't make anyone aware. We didn't sleep much that evening at all. We had to pack a bag & head across the street. My dad & I spent the following day looking for a steamer so we could steam our suitcases very well & some of our clothing we couldn't put in dryers. If any of you are unfamiliar with bed bugs, trust me they are not a good thing to have. I will give credit to the manager - she was awesome & understood the frustration & did everything she could to make us feel comfortable. If you choose to stay here just beware... don't let the bed bugs bite!

I think when I first arrived that I didn't have the same experience then other people and it's all depending of the awarness of the city from the staff. The new staff could benefit of a better trainning I think and could be more enthousiast to explain the nice things going on in the city at that moment or whatever.
For the rooms, they are nice, but showers could benefit of a better cleaning.

They have a good reputation and that's why people go there, but I think they kind of Surf on that vipe and I didn't feel that the place was trying to get better. It's not my first backpacking place and I've seen place more welcoming, more clean, less noisy and all.

that being said, it's good value for the money you pay and not too far from the center of the city

Grand Hostel Berlin was very clean and comfortable. I stayed in an 8 bed, ensuite and really enjoyed my 4 nights. The staff and other guests were very friendly. The location is close to Mitte without being overwhelmingly close, and south of the hostel there are a lot of neat/cheap restaurants and shops! I have no complaints about my stay.

Everything to Love About A Hostel Stay

The rooms in Grand Hostel Berlin were great for the price, and it offers all of the benefits of a hostel stay without some of the more negative tropes of staying in one. All of the staff are friendly and speak excellent English. A word of warning, though - you may get put in a room with families with young children.

I stayed for 3 nights in a 7 bed dorm. Non-bunk beds were so good and comfortable. On a peak winter day, you expect the room to be warm, but it wasn't. It was annoying. Other than that, the breakfast buffet was yummy, worth the price. All staff members were extremely friendly including the cleaner Diana. The bathrooms was not heated sufficiently in the early morning hours and as a result felt so cold while showering.

Nice Hotel, Pleasant Hotel

Lovely clean and well decorated Hotel. Very cost effective. I can see why this hotel has been voted as the best hostel to stay in Berlin, it is clear to see you get a lot for your money. This has been topped off by the wonderful and welcoming hospitality you get at Reception and during the stay which is 2nd to none. A much needed welcome drink is received to the complete the nice introduction to the accommodation. Great social atmosphere. Fellow stayers are warm and friendly.

Excellent facilities, large shower room, good size toilets and communal area. The room I stayed in was shared but I didn't loose comfort in any way. The room was very clean, well adorned, highly equipped with lockers. Not to mention large, bright and airy. The wooden floors were astatically pleasing and I didn't feel I was staying in a hostel, it felt more like a hotel.

Best hostel I've ever stayed at

This hostel really stands out as excellent, the rooms are very comfortable with plenty of space, super high ceilings and no bunk beds. The building was once an old library so the rooms aren't built like a regular hostel, they are much bigger.
I travelled alone and it was really easy to meet people here because the little pub downstairs had events like an free open bar for an hour for no reason (so great), free dinner, karaoke night, pub crawl and beer tastings. It is also a great location with only a minutes walk to the Möckenbrucke Ubahn station to reach U7 and U1 lines making it super easy to go anywhere you like.
Also the staff were so good at helping you find the good spots to eat, shop, club and see, and the free welcome beer on arrival was greatly appreciated. Stay here!

Good location with good connections on the public transport. Was clean, warm, Beds were comfy, and building and rooms secure. Toilets clean and showers were clean and so hot and brilliant water pressure! didn't try the breakfast so can't tell you about that. But overall would stay here again. Nice bar downstairs, we didn't use the lockers in the room but plenty available in the rooms if you need them. Would recommend we stayed in a dorm of 6 for two nights, and had no trouble at all!

I expected more from this hostel because of all the awards they've been given, but it was just ok. It's definitely geared toward younger travelers. You can hear *everything* as it's a very old building. The bar has a good happy hour and it's extremely close to a U-Bahn stop. Wouldn't go out of my way to stay here again.

A simple hostel at a great rate, but set apart by warm and helpful reception (including a free welcome drink on check-in!), cleanliness, ample space in the rooms, social gatherings and events in the lobby/bar area, and quiet hours respected on the bedroom floors. Only negative: the bed was pretty lumpy and uncomfortable (may just have been mine though).

Gutes Hostel, sehr nettes Personal, tolle Lage und recht sauber. Die Zimmer sind von der Größe völlig ausreichend. Schade fanden wir, dass Handtücher nicht inkl. waren, so mussten wir noch 7€ für zwei Handtücher zahlen. Hatten wir so noch nie erlebt.

Sehr charmantes Hostel mit internationelem Flair. Ruhig und gut zu erreichen. Freundliches Personal. Beim Frühstück gäbe es noch Luft nach oben. Um 9.30 Uhr waren die Platten schon sehr leer.

Leider wurde bei der Buchung Einzelbetten angezeigt, vorgefunden hat man aber Etagenbetten.
Leider alles sehr laut, sei es der Zimmerboden, Türen oder die Schubkästen unter den Betten.
Sonntag morgens um 7.45 Uhr hat die Reinigungsperson im Nachbarzimmer gesaugt was dazu führte das einige davon wach wurden. Ich finde das muss nicht sein!

Angenehmer Aufenthalt

Ich wurde sehr freundlich empfangen und ein Begrüßungsgetränk wurde mir auch angeboten. Das Zimmer/Bad war sauber, nicht unbedingt neuester Standard, aber da ist mir die Sauberkeit tatsächlich wichtiger. Es war allgemein sehr ruhig, ich hatte ein Zimmer mit Fenster zum Hof und ich konnte prima schlafen.

Die Unterkunft war fantastisch. Der Bau ist vermutlich aus den 20er Jahren, die Decken sind hoch und stuckverziert. Die Athmosphäre ist traumhaft.
Das Zimmer war komplett in Ordnung. Das Personal war super freundlich, sprach verschiedene Sprachen. Die Lounge war klasse, Sofas, eine Bar, Bücherregale, sehr zum Wohlfühlen.

Güzel eski klasik bir bina. Ahşap merdivenler, yüksek tavan, büyük kapılar. Ranza yerine tek katlı yataklar ve büyük bir kütüphane ile soğuk içecek dolabı, barı ve seyahat boy kozmetik reyonu var üstelik hepsi uygun fiyata. Çalışanlar nazik. Duş kullanışlı ama kabinlerin zemini daha temiz olabilir. Teşekkür ederim

We checked in with a 9m old baby and were sceptical if this hostel could accommodate our needs accordingly. But the staff and everybody was so friendly and helpful, they provided a babybed and there was even a children’s chair at the breakfast room. Really surprising quality for something that calls itself Hostel. We would always go back to Grand Hostel Berlin!

Et nogenlunde hostel meget lyt

Et fint lille hostel service pigerne var meget flinke og virkelig service og rengøringen var Ok mændenes virkede sure trætte.
Man kunne høre alt på hotellet og når folk gik i bad .

Für ein Hostel recht gut, leider ist es allerdings ein Altbau, d.h. der Boden knarzt und es ist nicht so gut isoliert (sprich warm wenn es draußen warm ist).

Ansonsten aber sauber, Lage gut (fußläufig zum Postdamer Platz, aber auch Bus und S Bahn-Nähe) und das Personal war sehr freundlich.

Im Gegensatz zu anderen Bewertungen musste man Bettzeug nicht draufzahlen. Sondern nur ein Handtuch oder Schloss wenns wäre, daran könnte man aber auch in der Reiseplanung denken:)

My room was opposite the bathroom and it was the 1. on the floor. The whole night guests came , they were talking and using the bathroom. The door banged always and because they were talking I couldn’t sleep the whole night.

Not too impressed.

Alot of noice from guests(youth) kept me awake. Also the doors are very loud, so I would wake up when others went to the bathroom, or in and out of rooms in the middle of the night.

Surprised that towels were not included. I had to rent towels to take a shower, and the shower had very low quality. Either too hot or too cold. The type you have to push the button every 10seconds to keep the water coming.

Breakfast was great. And very nice that there was always someone in the reception 24/7. Kind personell.
