I was looking for a convenient place to stay near Brighton, and this turned out to be an excellent choice. Communication was great throughout, with quick and helpful responses to any questions I had. The bed was very comfortable, making for a good night’s sleep, and the free on-street parking nearby was a real bonus. Overall, a very pleasant and hassle-free stay.

Clifton House Portslade

The room was very spacious with all amenities needed available in the room. The room was exceptionally clean and tidy and the bed was very comfortable. The entire property was very well decorated and the stay was really quiet. The property is also very close to the train station and local pubs and takeaway. We will be staying again

Needed a place to stay for a few nights while I was at an event this place was good price check in was self service very simple to follow parking was easy on links road the guy on the phone when organising payment was very polite and helpful which makes a difference as I’ve encountered lots of rude hotel reception staff in the past this is a great place to stay

Clean and comfortable

We were in Room 4 on the top floor which was their largest one and had an ensuite bathroom. It was clean with a comfortable bed. We had a small issue with the shower temperature but after reaching out to the House Manager by text, it was repaired quickly while we were out. The only difficulty was parking (as in most areas of Brighton and Hove) but we were lucky to find a space not too far from the guest house. It would be perfect for someone who didn't need to drive - it was a short and convenient walk from Portslade train station.

I stayed at Clifton House for 3 nights over the Pride weekend after finding hotels in Brighton itself over-priced. Clifton House was a fraction of the price and just a short walk from Preston Park station as well as various bus options to get into Brighton.

I stayed in a single room which was a surprisingly good size. It was clean and had a basin, TV, fan, heater and hair dryer and plenty of clothes hanging. The bed was small but very comfortable. I was a little apprehensive about the shared bathroom but it was no problem at all, perfectly clean and was always available when I needed it.

Check-in was easy (you receive a text message with instructions on the morning of check-in). Check-out was at 11, again, very easy.

I’d certainly have no hesitation staying again.

Excellent property, spacious room!

I booked the room on the top floor with the private bathroom and found it to be very spacious. I'm a budget-conscious business traveller and can't remember the last time I stayed in a room this big.
Very soft and comfy bed, great night's sleep!
The en-suite bathroom is also a good size with a powerful shower.
Everything was clean, worked and in great condition - only saw normal wear and tear.
The smart TV was a very welcome addition!
Despite being next to a main road, external noise was faint. Internal noise was minimal as well.
The level of comfort was way above my expectations!
Excellent customer service - a payment issue was resolved promptly and there was clear communication before and during the stay.
Overall, I'm very impressed with Clifton House and I'm likely to stay again!

Nice and clean in a quiet area. Lot of privacy with free netflux and prime.... a bonus.

Highly recommend with good bus transport within walking distance and only 3 stops by train to brighton.

Spacious, airy room and nice bed and pillows. Good service- cleaned every day.Room very bare- needs more storage and brightening up. It would have been nice to have tea on the hospitality tray and access to an ironing board and iron. Very close to Portslade Station and bus routes. It was basic, but served a purpose.

Would definitely stay here again

Lovely staff who were very friendly, communicative and helpful. Unfortunately I was charged a pre authorisation fee and the full amount was taken out before, even after choosing the option to pay at the hotel upon arrival, with me still having to pay when I had got there. However this was not the hotels fault and I have raised this issue with them. Otherwise the experience at the hotel was good, the room was spot on. Many thanks

Okay, with a couple of caveats.

Generally quite nice, but two very specific complaints. First, the bed was not good. Second, the shower was far too on the first night cold, than far too hot on the second! But clean, well-presented, suitable temperature and free wifi. At this price, don't expect miracles.

Economical, clean and easy

Easy check in, rooms were spacious, shared bathroom was big and surprisingly the towels were very soft and comfortable. Only 5 minute walk to Portslade station which is then a 10 min train to Brighton. Sainsburys and Aldi also near by. Very good location años very good price compared to Brighton central. Great for people who do not mind the extra bit of travelling.

Lovely room and comfortable stay. Parking is awkward due to the busy road and cars parked on the road outside the hotel. TV didn’t work initially in the room but resolved it ourselves later on in the stay. Ideal for a cheap night away.

Everything was fine but the man who let us in and took payment on the Friday had started banging and drilling below us at 23:40 Saturday night after me and my partner had been out all day from 10am till 10pm when we got back to go to sleep

I had to get out of the bed and go down and knock on there door to bring it to there attention that it's after 8pm I text the contact persons mobile affan 07903878376

Great place to stay

The B &B was lovely and clean and owner extremely helpful. Great place to stay and although not close to the centre there were several bus stops close by and buses were very frequent. You are on a busy main road but cannot hear any traffic at night.
There is parking on site which is charged per day in cash on arrival but also plenty of parking near by.

I didn't realise how far it was from the centre of Brighton. It was basically just an en suite room in a house. It was clean, though there were not enough towels.
Fortunately it was near a bus stop and within walking distance of Portslde station.
To say it was in hHove would be stretching the point.

Mixed bag review

Room was too hot (no air conditioning) apart from having to open a window considering it was hot over the weekend & it is summer.
On the first afternoon of arriving on taking a shower the water was freezing cold allegedly the boiler had tripped but surely this should be checked frequently?
No breakfast was available and had to go out and buy breakfast considering I paid £180 for a 2 night stay.
Shared facilities, luckily no one was waiting outside to use the shower or toilet when In use by myself

Room only in Portslade - outer Hove.

If you're looking for just a room with no hotel facilities then this is ok. It was clean and spacious, but note there is no reception, no fridge and it is not manned unless you ring someone. Contact before arriving is not possible. The local area is about 2 miles out of Brighton. The bed was comfortables and out ensuite bathroom was clean with a good shower.

A very clean, comfortable and quiet room with good facilities. Had a problem to begin with as I had stayed in the same property last year and was e-mailed a code to operate the door which I didn't receive this time. However, the owner was on hand this time to let me in and provide the key. I only stayed 1 night so my review has a limited basis.

Hotel with beautiful interior and friendly staff

Having hardly stayed away, I initially looked around at the obvious hotel names, such as Hilton and Ibis. However, my partner convinced me to have a look around at something which was cost effective, as ideally we just needed a place to settle and sleep for the night(s).

We stumbled upon Clifton House, and I was extremely glad we did!

Initially I was surprised by what I saw on Google Maps, as the exterior of the hotel just looks a little like an ordinary place. However, once you enter the house it is totally different.
There are 3 floors in this house overall, with the double room (with en suite bathroom) on the top floor.
The room itself was extremely spacious, and was all that you could ask for: great side double bed, open wardrobe with shelves and hangers, a desk with a lamp, complimentary tea and coffee ingredients, coffee table and chairs, a TV with freeview, and bedside tables with lamps. There were also plenty of plug sockets, so you always have somewhere to charge your phone or other mobile devices.

The bathroom was through a door and really took my by surprise. The whole room was very spacious and was effectively a walk-in shower, with the toilet and sink at the far end of the room.
There was also complimentary shampoo/shower gel, so everything you need is provided!

The hotel staff are very friendly and thankfully allowed us to check in later than the regular times, as our train arrived late.

Overall, I was extremely happy with our stay. Brilliant stuff!

Good Base, clean and tidy.

Was pleasantly surprised, room was clean and tidy. Bed was comfortable, had a great night sleep. Shared bathroom was nicely decorated and clean. Cannot fault the place, very close to train station, costs £3.20 for a return into Brighton much cheaper than parking costs. I managed to park car in lay-by to front of property. Handy sainsburys walking distance from hotel. Will stay here again when I visit Brighton.
