Enjoyed my stay - the room was spacious, clean and nicely decorated. It was a very budget friendly option so I knew that would come at a cost, and the cost was the noise levels from the busy road and a couple of restaurants nearby. For the price I paid it was definitely still worth it, happy with my choice!

Was in a good location with a lot of restaurants and a supermarket underneath. The Grand Place is just a 20min walk away which did not bother us a lot, as we got to explore the city on foot.

The host, an old man was really welcoming. There was free coffee and fruit to take all the time. We were very happy about that.

The bathroom was abit unconveniently designed, the shower head and no platform to keep my toileteries.

Overall a good stay for a night

Good location and value

The superior room is comfortable. There aren’t any towel racks or hooks so you have to hang your towel over the heater. Also, the WiFi was cutting out in the evening sometimes.

Lovely place to stay, staff were friendly and helpful. The only downside is that it was quite noisy, the doors are heavy to shut and this sound travelled, especially at night. The building next door were load and the windows/ walls didn't keep out much noise, with shouting/ singing and sirens from the road coming through. but all in all a lovely place to stay!

I would definitely love to stay here again!
The staff were incredibly welcoming and accommodating throughout my stay. I wasn’t expecting room service, so it was a pleasant surprise to return from a long day of sightseeing to find my bed made and the room spotless. Not many hotels offer this kind of service anymore, and I really appreciated the extra care. I will be recommending this hotel to friends and family. Thank you Hotel Retro Staff!

Room is clean and looks like the pictures. Smaller than you may expect. Very noisy, you can hear a lot of noise from the road outside, from the elevator and from other rooms if someone loud is next to you.

The property had a comfortable, good sized double bed, with nice memory foam pillows. The shower was excellent with good pressure and hot water which can be lacking at some cheaper hotels. There was a shop just outside the entrance which was convenient. The surrounding area was sketchy, and the walk from the north station was not family friendly. the windows were not remotely soundproof and there were trams passing all night which made for a rough nights sleep. Overall did what it needed to do, a place to sleep and shower but wouldn’t recommend to a friend.

Good value for money

This hotel is well located - a 15 minute (albeit sketchy) walk from Brussels Nord train station. It was good price for money in the sense that it wasn't too expensive for a decent property. The room was clean and serviceable. The staff was great!

At check in, receptionist (Kaan) was so kind and helpful. Staff was fine during the stay. Room is clean, effective and warm. Location is very good near Botanique and 20m from Gillon tram station.It’s something minor but for me the bed could be a little better. Price is acceptable.

I was sent to a second building of the Hotel Retro into the rook 502. Which is fine as a standard. But nobody warned me that there is no lift up to the 5th floor. It ends on the fourth floor then you have to walk up taking narrow wooden stairs with your bag.

Delivers nicely what it promises

This is a very decent, modern-designed 3* hotel that is most often great value for money (i.e. under 100 euros per night).

If one takes bigger double room (20 m2) then it is very comfortable. Staff is very pleasant and efficient - gave me free bottles of water after clubbing. Did not try their 15 euros breakfast.

The only issue could be location that is not in the ideal neighborhood. But both metro and tram station (and bus 272 for airport) are just few metres away so you can easily spend your evenings in nicer areas. Otherwise, there is a very nice bar of nhow hotel across the road and great late night Le Snack Botanique around the corner....Several chain markets (Carrefour, Delhaize) are only couple of minutes walk.

Surly and unhelpful receptionist on arrival, cramped room for 2 people with limited storing/hanging space. Bedside lamps unsafe and could not be used. Decor uninspiring. No hotel information re breakfast or other services. Will not book this hotel again. Extremely disappointing but didnt let it affect our successful visit to the beautiful sights of Bruges, Ghent and Brussels.

The area is so close to everything and made things easier. The room I had, 203 at the other side of the building was having
The heater faulty and the room wasn't clean at all. Flooring was dusty and full of long black hair and inside the safe was a rotten and smelly pack of salami. I have informed reception about it and all they offered were some blankets not even apologising.
Really poor sleep.

Not a very good experience

Located on busy street, could hear noise in the room throughout the night. Room itself simple but ok, but my floor corridor had some construction with door openingsbarricaded off which gives off a certain vibe. Reception and breakfast area completely void of staff for 20 minutes in the morning, did not answer bell, tect or phone. Caused some confusion and irritation for our check out.

Good hotel within walking distance to the centre

The hotel is located a few minutes walk from the underground station, North railway station is also close, approximately 10 minutes walk. Receptionist was friendly and the room was comfortable and clean. Despite the room was facing the street it wasn't noisy and I slept well.

Very good stay. Excellent service! The lovely girl from the reception made sure we ware comfortable and not to hot in our room, ( since the air conditioner wasn’t working). Coffee or tea complementary for the guest. Very convenient location near to the transportation. On the way back to the airport we took regular bus 272 ( for 2.50 euros) it takes little bit longer about 40 minutes, but worth it if someone is on a budget. Very clean hotel simple, but clean, got everything you need. Walking distance to the main attraction.

Somewhat misleading, and very noisy

When I arrived at the hotel I was taken round the back to the “other building” which I soon realised is still very much being renovated as there were building materials everywhere. The room itself was nice enough though. There was nobody on reception is this building, and I think I was the only person in the entire building which made me feel rather uneasy. To top it off, I woke up at around midnight to the sound of doors being opened and closed along the corridor getting progressively closer to my room, and then my door was opened. It turned out to be a member of staff who was replacing towels and apparently “didn’t think anyone was on the system that night” so he just wandered into the room thinking it was empty. He then made me get up to ask for my name so he could check the system for the booking! Bearing in mind I was shown to this room by the reception staff on arrival so it was definitely where I was supposed to be staying. Anyway, safe to say I did not sleep much after that as the adrenaline of thinking someone was breaking into my room in the middle of the night left me rather awake. Also the streets around the hotel are super noisy at night, and the rubbish collection truck that came around at 5.30am was incredible noisy. So all in all I probably got around 3 hours sleep that night.

The bathroom is OK but I gave the following remark several times after previous stays. There is no space to put necessary cosmetics on the sink. A small shelf under the mirror for shaving utensils, toothpaste and a toothbrush is simply missing.

Another item which ois missing : a small kettle for tea/coffee or at least a bottle of mineral water when entering the room late in the evening.

The hotel is very modern, the bed was comfortable and the staff was very helpful and kind. Our room was nice but it has very limited space. You can take the bus or the tram in front of the hotel and there is a train station close. Our difficulty was that it was 20 minutes away from main attractions and there were almost no alternatives to eat nearby.

Check in very slow. Hotel said they would arrange taxi to airport to pick us up at 04.00. Waited for 15 minutes with no sign of taxi so went into street and flagged one down.
Room clean and comfortable bed but very noisy from other rooms late at night into the early hours. Would not stay here again.

Literally one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed at. The first room I was was in a separate building in what appeared to be an attic. It had the worst smell.

The Second room was at least in the main building. However when the window was open it smelled like sewer inside. The bed was also hard as a rock. Never again.

When we arrived we entered into a building which was looking worse for wear, it was dirty looking but the guy reception seemed to be nice he brought us into another building which was where the rooms were
It all went down hill from then,the tv didnt work,the toilet was blocked,the safe didnt work and if you wanted a cup of tea you had to put the kettle on the floor as there were no sockets at eye level,wouldnt recommend to anyone it all looks good on line but everthing is just a prop nothing works,when we told the reception he just kind of smirked and said he would try fix but we just wanted to go by then and so we did please don't go there if you want a stress free break

Got a room on last floor, neeeded to take dodgy stairs up from 4th to 5th which is not very easy with big baggages, plus the room is very small, in the ceiling of the building which means that you have to bend over to get to one side to another... NO HEATING! it didn't work the night I was there the boiled had a failure, I found hairs in my bed, the carpet was NO COMMENT VERY DIRTY and area very noisy I could not sleep well because of the continous noise from the street. They offered me breakfast for compensation but did not want to take the risk, sorry.. you can improve your overall services by starting to clean properly the carpet next time... very very dirty!!!!

There was a noise coming and going from my room's ceiling. It was not constant but quite annoying, like someone using a screwdriver. I asked what was that and nobody was able to explain nor to get rid of it. It is a pity since the hotel itself is all right; well communicated with metro and several bus lines, not far from the city centre. The room is big enough, bed is comfortable. The international TV chains did not always work though.
However, when you stay at the hotel you want to have rest, and quietness is for me very important.

I highly recommend this hotel. It’s very close to most of the sites we wanted to visit. The train station is walking distance. The room where we stayed was big; a lot of rom for our 4 luggage and more. The only thing I would recommend is to put a prominent sign on the entrance of the hotel. We have to ask where the entrance is. I will stay in this hotel next time we visit Belgium.

Very comfortable large bed and a great shower. Room had everything I needed including a small fridge.

Hotel is only a short walk into the Grand Place and Central Station and a Metro line station up to the Atomium is only 100 metres away.

A slightly confusing hotel as it is over 2 buildings. But i stayed in what i assume is the new building and it is looking amazing so far. I would love to see the finished verision. I would 100% stay here again. My only slight concern is that 5 minutes after checking out all the money was stolen out of my bank account, i am 90% sure this is a coincidence but the timing does give me some concerns as i had only used my card at this hotel and the supermarket underneath it. So yes i would definitely stay here again but for my piece of mind i would pay cash and not go to the supermarket! My room was fantastic and so comfortable. When this hotel is finished it will be incredible. And like i said, i really hope my money disappearing was a coincidence and is it is a fantastic hotel

Excellent service by the staff who worked day shift during our stay (15-19 Aug).

The hotel is quite near the redlight district - so just be more aware when walking down some of the alleys at night. Otherwise, the location is really convenient, with a supermarket just downstairs, a restaurant that serves excellent food and opens even on a public holiday just behind (1min walk), and it is also near the train station.

We are happy with our stay.

THUMBS UP! Cheap, clean and close to transport.

Small, compact room but comfortable. Simple, no gimmicks just everything you need (unless you want to make a brew in the room then sorry- no facilities). Lovely lovely air-con as well, for FREE. unfortunately, there wasn't a safe to place valuables. I would say our room and other rooms on our side of the building are definitely not suitable for people with mobility issues are there were just stairs, stairs and more stairs.

We was in, presumably, the new building which is under reconstruction so parts of the hotel you walked through still looked like a building site but we didn't particularly mind because our room itself was clean and quiet. We loved the quirky fixtures in the lobby.. very RETRO. Reception and other facilities was in the other building around the corner which we found weird at first but didn't effect us in the end. I imagine it would be annoying having to walk round to another building for breakfast.

Short walk to metro, even shorter to the bus/tram stop and corner shop.

Perfect for a mini break. Can't complain at all for the price we paid!
