It is a very clean resort in a beautiful neighborhood. Our room was updated and comfortable.
In terms of the location, it is possible to walk to the city center within 25 min but the way back is uphill. The shuttle runs only during the day. One way taxi service is around 6 euros.
We had the half board meal option. There was one buffet restaurant for all of the meals. While there was a lot of selection, the food is bland and repetitive every day. It is the same every day with minor variations. If you are staying for many days, it is better not to take the dinner.
The hotel caters to mature guests. There wasn’t any music at the pool or any activities. The evening entertainment was low key.
Overall, it was a nice quiet hotel in peaceful surroundings away from the center.

Some good, some bad but overall a welcoming stay

For a 4 star, top 100 hotel in the world, there were some experiences I had with it—good and bad.
Bad: the WiFi goes in and out quite a bit. Not sure if it’s just a bad connection or too many people using it at once but it has been down for multiple times during our 8 night stay. Make sure to have some shows and movies downloaded.
Bad: the shower floods easily. My wife used the handheld shower head since it spread less water onto the floor than the rainfall shower head. Whole bathroom floor is soaked if you use the rainfall head.
Bad: I’m not sure if it’s the hotel or if it’s because I’m American but there was no microwave anywhere in the hotel. If you got leftovers from one of the amazing restaurants down the street, you can’t heat it back up since there’s no microwave or toaster or anything of the such in the hotel. So if you go out to eat, make sure to eat it all or trash it when you’re done.
Good: the spa was absolutely fantastic. Everything was priced fairly for what you get and how long you get it for. The care of the massages and spa was unbeatable. Best spa my wife and I have ever gone to.
Good: although there are no microwaves in the hotel, there is breakfast buffet from 0800-1030, an outdoor bar open after that, dinner buffet from 1815-1945 or 2015-2145, and an indoor bar with live music each night at the same time. So there’s honestly no need to eat out sometimes and worry about driving or parking.
Good: the staff knows multiple languages.

We had a really wonderful stay here with our three children. Beautiful hotel and sorroundings, delicious food catering to different tastes, super friendly, helpful staff. Everything works seamlessly and smoothly and we felt really well looked after. Hope we can come back soon!

Really exceptional, but one deadly flaw

This hotel is gorgeous and well maintained. We were upgraded to a better room and every single staff member was exceptionally friendly and helpful. Breakfast and dinner were included in our half-board rate. Food was top notch, better than cruise ship quality. Great mix of Spanish, German, and UK choices. The challenge was not to eat too much. Bar and wine prices were very fair (great spanish house wine 11€/bottle or slightly less). I will definately stay at other Riu hotels in the future BUT NOT THIS ONE. THERE IS AN UNFORGIVABLE PROBLEM: guests should plan on NO wifi available on the property. Connections in the room were zero. In public areas, there are so many conflicting wifi repeaters that your device will skip from bad connection to bad connection trying to connect. I was forced to do a highly interactive Zoom via mobile phone connection greatly annoying my colleagues and running over my 10gb of EU data which incurred a 20€ overage. The front desk said there will be no solutions until the building is rewired. I tried to connect using Android, Apple and Chromebook products from many different locations. If you need data at all, stay elsewhere. If you don't need data, you will be totally delighted by this hotel.

super clean, nice staff, swimming pool is amazing, reasonable price for drinks, tennis court is extra bonus. Shuttle bus helped us a lot to move around as well. we enjoyed our stay a lot.

bad points, no wifi in the room and the dinner food quality is good, but still can be improved.

overall, i highly recommend this place.

the hotel is great, we arrive at 9:30 to the hotel, the woman at desk apologies that the room is not ready but offered as to go and have breakfast' although it shouldn't be included. the food was great many options in breakfast and dinner. the staff is very friendly and helpful and the spa was great as well/

Good Bits.
We had a great stay.
All the staff were excellent, from the Reception, the Dinning Room & the Cleaners, what a 1st class job they do.
The food in the restaurant is the best buffet food we've had, the choice is great & it's hot, with hot plates.
The whole hotel is clean & well maintained, though it'll be interesting to see it next year after the refurbishment. Hopefully more plug sockets & USB sockets in the bedrooms.
The standard bedrooms are clean, comfortable & spacious.

Bad Thing. Noise
Thanks to the reception staff who moved us after our 1st night, from above the restaurant & the noisey fan that kept us awake a lot of the night.
2nd room a lot quieter except for other guests.
A sign in all rooms requesting guests to respect & show consideration to fellow guests that they would expect to be shown to them , especially between midnight & 8 am? Don't slam doors, keep TV volume low, Don't shout, Don't have your phone alarm go off at 5 & then 5.10 & then 5.15 etc.
Unfortunately all our 4 nights sleep were unnecessarily noisey due to inconsiderate guests.

Come on Riu, a small polite sign would go a long way

Without the noise this place is 5 star & we will return next year, hopefully in a top floor, sea view room, as we were promised this time, but unfortunately didn't get.

Great hotel, perfect for a quiet relaxing holiday

Very quiet not for the youngsters, we had exactly what we wanted from this hotel a totally relaxed week. The Hotel was so clean and the staff very helpful . Food great with loads of cjoice.
Took about 30 minutes to walk to a beach, great views better than taking the courtesy bus(which was freAt and ran to time)

From the moment we arrived and were greeted by a great reception team until the day we left a week later we experienced excellent customer service from all groups of staff.
Our room was quite large and comfortable and overlooked a very pleasant garden and pool area which was very peaceful ... all the guests seemed to be there for one reason and that was to relax -- easily done.
We booked bed, breakfast and evening meal --- the food was excellent -- huge range of high quality hot and cold food - not once were we stuck for choice. Congratulations to the catering team.
The hotel is a little way out of town --- easy enough to walk down to - but uphill all the way back! The hotel provides a frequent shuttle service - but if it is not available when you want it a taxi will cost 4-5 euros.
The whole hotel was clean and tidy
Our only (very small) complaint was that the Wi-Fi seemed a little slow at times - but this was not an issue and did not in any way detract from the great stay we had at what was a 'quality' hotel.
Recommended to all -- we would certainly stay here again

Good not great for couple with one baby

Average 4-star hotel usually catering to Charter travellers with especially a lot of German pensioners staying there. Slightly dated decor, beds with some form of plastic undercover and no air conditioning in the rooms in winter (despite the Hotels.com website saying so) makes the rooms feel a little bit uncomfortable. However, personnel was very friendly and helpful and the service was great and the breakfast buffet was very wide.

We enjoyed our stay at the Riu Garoe, our room was big and comfortable and the whole hotel was very clean. The pool bar is good and does nice 2 for 1 cocktails in the early evening. There were good amenities in the hotel, nice pool, mini-golf etc. The location is a 35-40 minute walk to the centre of town and although there is a regular free bus service from the hotel during the day, this unfortunately does not run in the evenings so it's a bit of a walk or a taxi (which costs around 5 euros) if you want to go to town in the evening. We were a bit disappointed that there was no access to an iron at the hotel!

Lovely hotel let down by the entertainment

Hotel was very nice. Food excellent. The only thing that let it down was the entertainment and bar service. As there was nowhere else to go locally we were tied to watching dreadful entertainment and very slow bar service. This said the rest of which hotel was excellent.

Peaceful, family hotel

The hotel is easy to find on a quiet road about 2km from the TF-5.

We arrived around 23:00 to a warm reception and a cold drink from Brigitte who told us that as we'd missed the evening meal, a plate of cold meats, cheese and salad had been left in our room. After a long journey, this was an unexpected treat.

The hotel staff were efficient and friendly throughout our stay. Our room was clean and spacious with comfortable beds, a separate bathroom with a good shower, a balcony, good WiFi and TV with a wide selection of European channels.

There was a good-sized swimming pool (supervised), table-tennis (we couldn't get our son away from it), tennis, mini-golf, a squash court, a gym, an outside bar serving hot and cold food throughout the day, and very well kept gardens. There was a wide variety for breakfast and dinner that included local produce (notably cheeses and wines) as well as catering for other European cuisines.

There is a small store only 50m from the hotel but we tended to walk two blocks to a bigger supermarket that had more choice.

Note to self next time we visit: Happy Hour at the bar is between 5.30 and 6.30pm. I didn't notice that until the last day of our stay!

Riu Garoe - the Northern Star :)

Call me old-fashion but i still prefer a good, classy hotel even if i'm on the road a lot with my family. I visited Tenerife for a couple of weeks, done 3000km with a rental car (to the surprise of the agency that was probably expecting only small trips to the local beach) and have seen almost everything that there was to see. The night sky @ Teide. Rock-diving at the lighthouse. Taking our 7'year old daughter to the famous Loro and Siam...
When you're an avid traveller that likes to see / learn the history and all the vistas that a new place has to offer, you usually rent an apartment, grab sandwitches for the day, then go out and have a blast of a day and then collapse on the sofa of a trip-advisor chosen restaurant at the end of the day. But after trying that for 11 days i ended up at Riu Garoe which was supposed to be my reward for myself (since i prefer the demipension hotels to the other friends who don't like to be glued to one spot) i found out that this amazing hotel offers you the option to dine late (8-10 p.m.) which leaves you enough time to sightsee and then dine and get comfortable. Since it was an extraordinary thing, i appreciated it fully. The place is a luxurious tropical garden with a great pool and garden human-size chess that i thoroughly enjoyed with my daughter among various other distractions. There was parfume from the flowers in bloom everywhere. That garden is perfect for outdoor Yoga where you can be one with nature. Truly the ultimate experience

Good Birthday Stay

The hotel staff made our whole stay special, nothing was to much trouble for them. The hotel was very nice with a good pool area & pool bar. The restaurant was buffet style, but none of that lukewarm food. Both breakfast & dinner had plenty of choice & everything was fresh & regularly replenished. On my birthday a bottle of Cava was left in our room & at dinner another glass each plus special cake. We had a very enjoyable 5 nights stay & will be looking to return in the near future. The only thing that would make it better, would be to make the hotel Adults Only!

We were lucky to find this hotel a couple of weeks before our holiday to Tenerife. The hotel is well located for Mount Teide, Loro Park, the islands northern airport (and approx 1-1.5 hours from the south airport). We stayed at the hotel for a week with our 5 year old son.

1) the Pool area - very calm, kiddy pool as well as adult pool - both nicely warmed.
2) food - both breakfast and half board were fantastic - couldn't have asked for anything more (except for free water with dinner)
3) Room - very clean, spacious, enough wardrobe space and with a nice balcony
4) Sport / game facilities good - including squash, tennis court, and mini golf - local tennis coach is good too.
5) Staff - very friendly and keen to help / advise (reception staff in particular). impressed with the number of languages spoken too! in particular we enjoyed interacting with Sandra & Brigitte.
6) Live music every night - there were a couple of acts during our stay which were particularly impressive.
7 - Great grounds (beautiful flowers, - very nice to walk around

The hotel itself is clean , well looked after and overall tidy , the only problems I came across is that if you don't speak German you get ignored by the staff , and it's such a long walk to anything major , add to this it sits half way up a mountain , those walks are not fun

Nice hotel with a good buffet

All in all it was great. Not ideal was that the mattress was pretty worn out, something I def. would not expect from a 4* star hotel. Als were the bed sheets replaced even though we did not put the card on the bed where it says we will decide...only if we put the card on the bed the sheets will be replaced. Seems like green washing if not sticking to their sustainability rules...
The buffet is good - lots of choices (great bread at breakfast) and there is always something else available (dinner), just some details:
- Breakfast: Orange Juice/Drinks are at about room temperature, they could at least be cooled a little bit. Scrambled eggs are tasteless/horrible! Probably stretched and at least use a bit of salt!!
- Dinner: Also partly rather tasteless, simply no spices being used. Probably target audience rather people 60+ that like it less salted etc...still it could have some more flavour! (also especially as we are in spain, a paella needs to taste line a paella).
Again, overall really good, pretty warm and fresh.
Recommend this hotel.

Mi marido y yo nos quedamos en el hotel para pasar un fin de semana largo a principios de mayo. El hotel esta en perfecta condiciones, todo muy limpio y las habitaciones muy modernas. El buffet espectacular en el desayuno y en la cena y habia muchisima variedad. Todo el staff del hotel son muy amables y simpáticos y nos hicieron sentir como en casa. Lo único que nos fallo fue el tiempo que hacia un pelin de frío pero aún asi pudimos relajar. La unica pena es que no haya playa cerca!

In manchen Bereichen bemerkt man, dass das Hotel bereits ins Alter gekommen ist.
Es sollten die Matratzen und Bademäntel dringend ausgetauscht werden.

Hôtel calme extrêmement propre dans quartier calme en hauteur de puerto de la cruz avec facilité de se garer gratuitement autour. Personnel très serviable, souriant et poli. Les femmes de ménages, au bar, à la piscine, à l'accueil, quelques personnels au restaurant(les dames, le petit jeune, les cuistos, le responsable). Nourriture bonne, soirées agréables. Piscine avec serviettes et coussins à disposition. Possibilité d'y aller sans vraiment d'horaires de restrictions. Hôtel très beau et très arboré. Accueil très réactif pour nous changer de chambre suite à un problème dans celle initiale. Merci pour ce très agréable et reposant séjour.

Cet hôtel mérite ses notes excellente. C'est beau, reposant, d'une propreté irréprochable, le personnel est très accueillant. Les repas de type buffet présente un large choix. Le menu est différent chaque jour et l'ensemble est de qualité. Petit point de détail: les boissons ne sont pas comprises dans le repas mais les tarifs sont très raisonnable.
Assurément un très bel établissement.

Vi var väldigt nöjda med vår tvåveckorsvistelse. Rymligt rum med utmärkta förvaringsutrymmen och som städades varje dag. Bra att dela med väninna (separata sängar (intill varandra) och ordentligt privat badrum). Stor balkong som även hade torkställning. Trevlig och hjälpsam personal. Hotellet ligger, i vårt tycke utmärkt, i utkanten av La Paz-området. Det är lugnt och bra som utgångspunkt för bilutfärder (nära större väg – utan att den stör – och parkeringsplatser inom maximalt något kvarter om man inte vill använda hotellets garage). Dock ska man vara medveten om att brant ner till centrala Puerto de la Cruz (fin promenad längs havet om man går en liten omväg) och svag stigning även fram till närmaste centrum med restauranger och lokalbuss (max 10 minuters promenad i lugn takt). Hotellet har shuttlebuss till och från centrum vissa tider och taxi är billigt. Glöm inte att ta med schampo, balsam och hudlotion (gick inte att få ifjol; i år var vi förberedda så vet inte men det fanns inte i badrummet). Och säg till i receptionen om ni vill få behålla badrockarna även sista natten.

El hotel es fantástico. La comida es estupenda y digna de un 5 estrellas. Todo lo que comimos estaba muy bueno. El servicio es muy amable y hay mucho personal para atender todas las necesidades de los clientes. Es Spa es muy bueno y estábamos solos...
La única pega es que no tiene parking aunque tuvimos suerte al aparcar cerca.
Por poner alguna pega, el extractor del restaurante no es muy efectivo y por la noche se llena todo de humo y el olor queda en la ropa.
La animación nocturna podría mejorar aunque supongo que en verano será mejor.

El hotel es excelente en cuanto a calidad de alojamiento , buffet y servicios. Es una pena que no se aprovechen las instalaciones con ningún tipo de animación, siendo un hotel híper silencioso , hasta te tienes que poner auriculares en la piscina si escuchas algo en el movil. Hello, this was a beautiful hotel. It is very clean and well designed. People are friendly and attentive to details. The pool area is lovely. Food is excellent; I would have preferred natural orange juice, although they have other natural juices. They had some vegetarian and gluten-free options. There is a library, a few games and the nightly entertainment was nice. The prices at the bar and buffet were very acceptable. We had a beautiful view of the ocean.
Overall, this was a lovely stay!

Excelente trato y disposición del personal.
Habitaciones cómodas, algunas con bonitas vistas por su ubicación en altura. Se echa en falta cafetera o algún detalle de bienvenida.
Ubicación muy tranquila y recomendable para descansar, no ubicado en el centro pero accesible.
Por poner un pero, acostumbrado a zumo de naranja natural y café de calidad en los RIU, aquí se echa en falta. Si no fuera por ese detalle, muy recomendable el desayuno.

Excellent hotel and staff

Can only recommend this excellent hotel. Nice room, nice facilities and nice surroundings. The quality of the food in the restaurant was surprisingly good.

All staff were amazing: Professionel, serviceminded, friendly incl child friendly and smiling😊

Only some few wishes for improvement: Better quality of food in bar menu and shampoo + conditioner in the bathroom.

Välskött och prisvärt hotell. All personal var mycket trevlig och hjälpsam; t ex fick vi frukosttallrik 05.30 när vi skulle på utfärd. Vårt rum var trevligt i ljust trä och med trägolv; det var rymligt med utmärkta förvaringsutrymmen. Bra att dela med väninna p g a separata sängar (intill varandra) och ordentligt privat badrum (ej schampo, hårbalsam eller hudlotion; badrockar (som försvinner dagen före avresa om man inte särskilt ber om att få behålla dem) men inga tofflor). Rent och snyggt överallt. Utmärkt frukost och middagsbuffé (middagen var, för vår smak, utmärkt tio dagar av fjorton men endast ”OK” fyra dagar, men det fanns alltid något att äta även de dagarna). Snyggt poolområde med lediga solstolar och gäst som spelade radio för större område blev genast tillsagd av personal. Trevlig poolbar/restaurang och vanlig bar. Spa finns men vi var inte där så har ingen uppfattning om det. Vi var mycket nöjda med vår vistelse och har redan bokat till nästa år.

Genial, un hotel para repetir muchas veces!

La estancia ha sido inmejorable, lo mas a destacar ha sido el trato recibido por parte de todo el servicio del hotel, desde el momento de llegar en recepción, hasta el personal del restaurante, piscina, bar, etc. El hotel tiene de todo y puedes pasar el día en el sin aburrirte. Todas las instalaciones están muy bien cuidadas y la comida que sirven en el hotel es de calidad. En resumen, un hotel fantástico gracias al personal sobretodo que trabaja en el y hacen que tu estancia sea maravillosa.
