the Equus is a beautiful hotel with a family feel. The rooms are neat and someone is polishing the brass hand rails every day. The staff is attentive and very helpful. The small bar by the pool makes great cocktails and even a limited food menu. I highly recommend the Equus.

Nice room, good size, good location. Good hotel for the price. One caveat is that the small lobby area is basically a bar, so there are usually people drinking and often being loud. But the bar closes before 11 so it isn't noisy at night. Request a room away from the road if you can,

I have stayed at this hotel numerouse times in the past. This weekend was probably the worst experience that I have had. Our room smelt bad, One of our bed sheets were dirty. hot water took about 5 min to start getting luke warm. we couldn't sleep, super loud from whatever was happening above us. furniture moving, stomping. crazy experience. Staff as always super friendly, helpful, always so pleasant. As stated before we have statyed here and one of the main reasons for cooming back this time.

The hotel itself was excellent exactly what I wanted not in the Waikiki area a little more off the beaten path close to beaches shopping food Etc. The welcoming and front desk staff were wonderful. Housekeeping on the other hand needs remedial work. Six out of 10 days they didn't even make our bed. Didn't replace toilet paper so we had to use tissues. When they did bring us more toilet paper on the next visit they put it up on the shelf and didn't fill the empty roll. We found wadded up receipts from 2 days before we arrived on the floor aside the bed, indicating to me that the room had never been vacuumed. They have a coffee machine in the room and refilled the coffee the first three days, but didn't refill it after day three so day three through 10 we had to go out and buy our own coffee. The bathroom floor was never swept or washed in the time we were there, and the bathroom shower and bathroom sink were never wiped down during our whole 10-day stay. This could be a great place if they get their housekeeping up to Snuff.

I have stayed here 5 times in the past and always loved the small boutique. I even recommended it to others, but this time it seemed like a low-budget motel. The bathroom was dirty, and there was sand in the shower on day 1. We complained, and then it was cleaned on day 2. After we came back from being out all day on Day 3, we came back and it looked like someone had been lying in our bed after it was made. I told the front desk and she said, \"I was just lucky to be able to come to Hawaii because not everyone is as fortunate\", and said she would let the boss know. The parking was difficult this time also because if you don't get there by 6 pm, they make you park in the condo parking lot next door. Just inconvenient and time wasted for all these things. I have always been able to park in their spots, but now they oversell spots and it's impossible to park with a line of cars in front of the parking spots. I tried but didn't want to scratch my car or anyone else's. Their answer to this was, \"Oh, you don't know how to back into park?\" I said yes I do, but I can't curve in if there is a car in front of me too.

There was no boss to talk to, but the lady in the morning returned our last two nights' parking, and we had to find parking elsewhere.
Needless to say, I'm very disappointed and won't be returning or suggesting this hotel anymore.

The staff is beyond friendly- they were truly the highlight of my stay. The room was beautiful and comfortable with a great view of the city and a peak of the ocean as well! The food and handcrafted drinks in the Paniolo Cafe were so good that I ate at least one meal there each day! I would recommend this hotel to anyone and will be booking here again on my next trip!

Staff were all great. The location could not be better. It’s so close to the beach and shopping. We were only there for two days and had stayed there before. Beds were clean and comfortable as we remembered. Unfortunately our room was dark and dingy this time. The room we had was good but could use some upgrades. Toilet and shower did not look clean most likely because of their age. Some new paint on the walls and updated lighting would improve the experience.

This is one of the last Kama'aina owned hotel. Older but so much charm. Pub food with coffee and limited breakfast options. Everything is really tasty. Lincoln and the rest of the staff were so wonderful to us. We felt like family not customers. Right next to the Marina, walking distance to tons of shopping. Close to Queen's medical. This is my new go to hotel when staying overnight after getting healthcare. This is the 3rd hotel I have tried in this price range for overnight stays. This by far the best one. Smaller pool right nest to the bar and pub food. So well thought out. Just loved the place.

This hotel is wonderfully no-nonsense! While you won't have a five-star spa and Michelin-starred room service on property, it's clean and comfortable with basic modern amenities (WiFi, cable, parking) and the staff are courteous. The decor is unique, the bar & cafe at the pool has a good variety of drinks and fare. The pool is crystal clear, albeit cold (it's not heated and because the buildings are close to each other, the sun doesn't hit it). Shell out the extra dough and get a suite with a balcony or on a higher floor.

This hotel has a unique layout that starts with a stairway up into a bar area and a lobby off to the right that is more of an office. I have stayed here twice. It has enough comfort, location, and safety for the price. It is in between Waikiki and Ala Moana mall area. I was only in town overnight so price was more my concern than frills.
I like it fine and will stay again on one of my layovers.
The only hiccup for me was the hotels.com price was supposed to be inclusive of all fees and taxes and I got dinged for a $25 resort fee. I came in at 11pm and didn’t want to argue the point so I will see what hotels.com says and hope for the little refund. It is a good place if you are a walker as it is on the edge of two good walking areas.

We had a short night so my review is probably not the most informative. Loved the hotel, the bar area, the food, the room! We were able to walk to plenty of places from the hotel. There was live music in the evening but the bar area was packed so I wasn't able to sit and enjoy. But I listened from the walkway above - great band!

While the room was clean and fairly quiet, the carpets really could use a deep clean. We were surprised to come back after a day out to discover our bed had been made, something we haven't experienced in quite some time, so that was nice, and fresh towels were provided when we left some for cleaning on the following day. Most of the staff were quite friendly, with the exception of the bartender who provided our \"welcome\" drinks on our final evening, making comments about having to fix \"the most difficult drink\" of the free options for me and just generally unfriendly compared to the other terrific bar staff we had encountered during our stay. Biggest complaint is the parking. Expedia's listing makes it sound like there is on-street parking close by which is completely inaccurate and misleading! There is no such thing! And The Equus has very limited parking available. We were \"lucky\" enough to secure their last available spot, at $30 per night. After traveling to Oahu I get that parking in the area is at a premium; however, I don't appreciate being misled and having to fork over more money than expected.

I am writing to express my extreme dissatisfaction with the multiple check-in issues and poor service I experienced during my stay at the Equus Hotel for 5 nights

My stay consisted of three separate bookings for a total of five nights:

Booking 1: Original booking for 3 nights.
Booking 2: Added 1 nights .
Booking 3: Added 1 more night

On 1st night, I called the hotel at approximately 1:26 p.m. to inform the front desk that I would be arriving that evening and consolidating my bookings. The day-shift staff member confirmed that this was not a problem and assured me I would be checked in for all five nights upon arrival.

However, the check-in process proved to be highly unprofessional:

First night Check-in: The night-shift front desk associate only checked me in for a single night, forcing me to return the following day to check in again.

Second days Check-in:The same front desk associate questioned why I had multiple bookings and again attempted to check me in for only one night. When I requested to be checked in for the remaining four nights, she asked, \"Why are you being difficult?\"

This is an unacceptable level of service.

No guest should have to check in daily for a continuous stay. The associate's hostile and unhelpful attitude was inhospitable and created a deeply frustrating experience.

After dinner at 8 pm we had to go to the desk and ask again. They gave them to us and we took them to our room. As for the room itself, it was nice but outside traffic noise was loud as was a local rooster who crowed abt 5 am.

The location is very convenient and the staff is friendly. For this area, it is reasonably priced though be aware that they will add a resort fee even if you prepaid and will not use the small pool.

Nice bar - Matt is a wonderful bartender with lots of knowledge of what to go and see and where to find things while on Oahu. Lincoln and the rest of the front office make you feel like family. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Equus, Waikīkī's last family-owned and operated boutique hotel. From the vintage decor to the amazing staff, the Equus was a great place to start our stay on Oahu. It's within walking distance of several restaurants, the beach and the marina. Things I loved: the staff, the decor, the location and the mattress. Especially the staff. They truly made us feel like ohana. Things I didn't love: the parking (very limited); the bathroom (very dark and no privacy, not even a ventilation fan); and no elevator from the parking to the lobby.

Walls are thin. You could hear everything neighbors do. Everything. For instance I heard a cell phone alarm and thought it was coming from inside my room but turned out to be next door…
The restaurant/bar at the front of the hotel was really cozy. We enjoyed our free welcome drinks there with wonderful Hawaiian live music on Friday.
We were told this is the last privately owned hotel on the island… hope they stay as they are now - cozy, unique and friendly!

1. There is NO elevator from the parking/ground floor, so you will need to carry your luggage up a flight of 2 stairs. 2. They ask for your children’s names to apparently “keep track of guests” since the Lahaina fires. That was very unusual. 3. Check in was not your normal check-in and there are no clear signs of reception. It just looks like an office desk. 4. There was an unexpected $60 resort fee which I feel was over priced for what you are getting. 5. There was no security on site. 6. Anyone can access the room floors via elevator as there are no security measures in place. Ex. Using your room key to operate the elevator. 7. Returning to the room at night - terrible! There was barely ANY lighting. It was dark. Very scary you are a solo female traveler. 8. The rooms were outdated but sort of clean? 9. The AC was terrible. It was hot so we had to sleep with no blankets.

Moral of the story - stay somewhere else.

The staff are great! The property is not new and has no balcony. It is good just to take a shower, sleep, and then get out in the morning. It has a free filtered water machine next to the small bar downstairs, which was a nice touch.
It had a complementary coffee/green tea machine in the room, with a small refrigerator/freezer in the room. One of the rooms had a small sink above the freezer, which was also nice. It is ok to stay for five days.
Parking was optional at $30 a day.

Our stay at the Equus was nothing but wonderful! The staff are friendly and pay special care to everyone who stays. The rooms are clean, have everything you would need, and if not the staff is always happy to help. There is a pool on site and also parking. Parking can get a little crowded though around the evening but the staff are eager to help you find a spot nearby. The atmosphere of the hotel is beautiful and cozy. The location of the hotel is perfect, very close to the Ala Moana Center (about a 4 minute walk from the hotel), with an ABC store in the corner and other restaurants nearby! Also, the Ala Moana Beach Park is only a five minute walk and way less crowded than Waikiki beach. If you’re looking for an stress-free, peaceful, and cozy hotel, the Equus is the place to stay! 100% recommend and would come back again!!

Absolutely LOVE the native Hawaiian reception and hotel workers. Their aloha is genuine. From phone reservations to reception to parking to housekeeping…The aloha is real from real local Hawaiians. The hotel has an old style charm, it is quaint and clean. You can hear the street activity in rooms that are toward the front. But Iʻm an easy sleeper and was not bothered by the noise. If you like sincere service and real locals, this is the place. The location is fantastic with shopping and eateries nearby. Itʻ is easy to convenient to get into and out of the hotel without the hassle and traffic of mid Waikiki. Super affordable. Weʻve already booked our next stay! Mahalo

The street noise was very noticeable, and having blackout drapes would be excellent, especially considering how early the sun rises. Plentiful amenities, but need more and larger parking; multiple times we had difficulty getting in and out of tiny lot.

This was a very nice cozy little hotel. It may be a bit older but it has a great location and great staff. Lincoln at the first desk was very helpful and friendly. Definitely check this place out
