This location was perfect for our stay. It is close to everything including the beach. I recommend getting a suite if you’re staying for longer than 3 days. The staff and bartenders were amazing and very kind to us. The food and drinks were also worth it here. Big shout out to Ian and Max at the bar.

The room was clean but smelled of mildew, though that may just be the \"island way.\" No transport from the airport but it was centrally located near shops and restaurants. Our child was disappointed in the pool policies, for instance, no kids in the pool after 5pm. We've traveled far and wide and never come across that as a policy.

Thanks so much to SurfJack hotel for being wonderful. They have restored our desire to come back to Honolulu. From the moment we walked in Whitney and Eugene made us welcome and made sure that we had a lovely room. Our two nights here have been wonderful. Close, (but not too close) to walk to the beach, the same with the shops.
All the staff we encountered, were great. Always happy and helpful.
This is an absolute oasis and although we didn't go in the pool this time, it was one of the many reasons I booked the hotel. Love the quirky vibe. We will be back, so watch out guys!

Great family vibe here in a classic older Waikiki property. Great location and an easy walk to the beach. My only issue was room location. I booked late and my room was on the 10th floor. The elevator only goes to the 9th floor. There were also some odd mechanical noises going on at odd hours but who wants to complain? I was on Oahu and had a good rate for the room.

Staff was amazing….. came back from a day out and room wasn’t cleaned was a little disappointing. After booking we upgraded to a one bedroom to accommodate our son for a night who’s in the military there. Come to find out the pull out sleeper couch that he was to sleep on was completely stained with what I don’t know but he didn’t stay the night. Very disappointed.

I thought the hotel was average. It was a good location where it was in-between the shops (International Market Place, Kalākaua Ave etc...) and the beach. It was about a 10 min walk to the beach. The hotel itself seems a bit old/outdated. The shower pressure was weak and there were a few times where the water completely turned off on me while washing my hair. I had to play with the shower knob & stood naked with soap in my hair until the water turned back on (it was a vulnerable moment for me lolol). The sink water pressure was also on and off at one point too. It was on then it stopped, on, stopped etc... Luckily, it didn't happen often enough where it ruined my stay...

If you're looking for an affordable hotel that's straight to the point (just to sleep and close to the beach) I'd recommend this place. However, if you're looking for a more luxurious hotel, this one might not be the one. Given the price, I'd say it's reasonable (except the shower/sink). hopefully, it was just our room that experienced this.

A hidden gem in Waikiki!! While unassuming from the outside, Surfjack was an amazing stay for our 4 days in Hawaii. The staff is nothing short but lovely. The room was clean and quite spacious, we liked having a balcony too. The only downside was that the parking garage was 2 blocks away. The walk wasn't bad but it logistically hindered us on multiple occasions as we couldn't quickly get in/out of the hotel. Would recommend this stay otherwise!

I had a great stay at The Surfjack! All of the staff were incredibly friendly and courteous.

Daily beach towels are available at the front desk.

Upon arrival, check in was a breeze- quick and easy. My room was great, the floor could have been swept a bit better but not a huge deal. The lanai overlooking the pool and the “wish you were here” was pretty cool. The room has a/c as well as a ceiling fan which is nice.
The live band in the evenings (Tuesday-Friday) is also a nice touch to the ambiance.
The onsite restaurant and bar ‘ Mahina and Suns ‘ has great food options with even better drinks at affordable prices. Oh and super friendly/ attentive servers and bartenders.
Overall stay was amazing! Dog friendly, military friendly. There were several servicemen and women staying there which was awesome to see. Will definitely stay there again.

Cannot say enough good things about this adorable little hidden gem of a hotel!! From the moment you walk onto the property, an open-air, Bali-style entrance with pool in the courtyard, Surfjack impresses. Very friendly & helpful local front desk, very clean, great cool AC, balcony with a little table and chairs. The location is excellent, right in the middle of town, a 6 minute walk to the beach, cute little coffee shop attached, a nice restaurant/bar with happy hour specials on site, ABC store on the corner, food truck across the street, Thai restaurant next door, and every shop/restaraunt just a block away...yet it was still very serene & tranquil, a little oasis off the main street. Each night there's great live music by the pool. Pet-friendly, and there's even a Tuesday meet&greet with the resident hotel dog. There's a free little coffee setup each morning next to the pool, and a HiWater Technology water machine in the pool area to refill water bottles. Shower area included shampoo/conditioner/body wash, and the hotel even provided beach towels to take to the beach. Room does also include a little fridge. Beds were very comfortable. Amazing value for the price. 1000% will stay here on our next trip!

The staff at Surfjack was very courteous, kind and supportive however, we did not have hot water. The water will stay hot for 10 seconds before returning to cold. We had to be switched to another room on our last night and still had cold water. My only complaint.

Staff was so friendly. Coffee shop right near front desk, this place has a very chill no frills vibe. I loved it. Clean and comfy beds. They also have free coffee near the pool in the morning..at night you can go down and grab a drink at the bar. Live music. I had assumed parking was on site or a valet could park my car. So you check in leave your stuff and then take your car about 2 blocks away. It’s not that bad of a walk but in the city after a long day of travel or exploring just be prepared for that. One night I found street parking but was worried I’d get towed or ticketed. Overall really enjoyed this place.

I’ll start with the best parts, the front desk people were always helpful and pleasant. The bartenders were all great, I believe we were served by 3 different guys during a week long stay and all were great. The bar and pool deck areas were very nice, a great place to hangout, particularly in the evening with live music to enjoy. We had dinner there on the pool deck one evening and the music in the background was very nice. The area is very walkable, less than 10 minutes to the beach, tons of restaurants and entertainment venues very close by.
The room was less than perfect, we did the suite with balcony which was plenty spacious. The furniture is pretty worn although the bed was comfortable. In the cleanliness category I’d give it a C+ (my wife’s rating might be a bit lower) the shower area in particular could use a deep cleaning. Apparently room service is on a special request basis, not sure that in our 5 day stay the room ever had more than the towels refreshed.
All in I think from a value perspective they did pretty well, you can spend a ton of money on a hotel in this area and at the end of the day experience the same things.

You could hear everything happening in the lobby from the bedroom. There were so many bugs and larvae when we woke up, covering the bed, our faces and arms and the floor. It went into our clothes and souvenirs. We had to throw out so much goods, worth up to $500.

Great. Has lots of animals in rooms. Do not stay here if allergic to dogs or cats. Every room is pet friendly. There are NO pet-free rooms. Other than that...hotel is a 3 star with a good vibe. Pool area was nice. Room was nice. Bathroom very nice. Hotel halls were dark and dingy.

The hotel is in need of refurbishment. The room had a noticeable musty smell, which may be related to the hotel being pet-friendly and previous stays by pets. The curtains also need cleaning, when I moved them, a visible cloud of dust came off.
On the positive side, the staff were friendly and the hotel is centrally located. However, I wouldn’t feel comfortable walking down the street at night, particularly for women or younger people, as there were homeless individuals in the area who appeared to be under the influence of drugs.

The hotel is quaint, adorably dog friendly, but room needs some upgrades. Bed and bathroom are LOVELY, water pressure amazing, but couch was weird, and pull out sofa bed was horrible. Parking offsite was very awkward (2.5 blocks away, on the 5th or 6th floor only, weird ticketing process). Food and drinks were delicious in evening restaurant, and I like the adults-only swim time from 6-9!

The staff at the Front Desk were very nice. Check in and check out was satisfactory.

The taxi had to drop us off in the middle of the street as the curbside was taken up by delivery trucks. Not safe.

The room was clean. The bed was comfortable. The dresser and closet were in the living room instead of the bedroom. There was no coffee pot but there were 2 coffee cups.

The room was noisy, thin walls. We heard people above us and the front doors were very loud when closing.

The shower door did not seal well and the bathroom floor filled with water. In the shower it took 30 minutes running the water to get hot water. The floor of the shower was a bit slimy. During my shower the water would suddenly get cold and hot.

We ate at the hotel restaurant 2 nights in a row. After our dinner the first night we planned to have coffee and dessert. The server told us they don’t serve coffee at night. I thought this was weird. The second night we sat at the bar. The bartenders were excellent. After our meal the bartender asked if she could bring us anything else. I told her ‘no’ because they don’t serve coffee at night. She looked at me surprised and said, ‘Yes we do.’

We don’t plan to stay here again.

5th time in Hawaii. On holiday with a mate & the room we checked in to was clean & sufficient for our needs as we didn't plan on spending too much time in the room other than sleeping & showering. Beds were comfortable, aircon worked perfectly as did TV, safe, shower etc. Unfortunately on the 2nd day the toilet started dripping. After advising reception maintenance attempted to fix the problem but couldnt so we were immediately moved to another room on the same floor which was also an upgrade suite.
Staff were very courteous & helpful, even giving us handy hints & tips about where to eat & shopping away from the expensive Waikiki strip.
Pool was refreshing & poolside bar staff were friendly & accommodating to us Aussie larrikins & our cocktail requirements. Great bonus was the fairly reasonable prices for hotel drinks & restaurant food compared to other hotels.

Location 2 blocks in from the main strip & fairly central in Waikiki was good & an easy 5-10 min or 2 drink walk to the beach.

Can definitely recommend to travellers wanting good accommodation without paying the additional hotel resort fees many hotels charge which they may not need or use every day.

I booked 3 rooms for myself and my family from the end of October to beginning of November. In one of our rooms, we found multiple cockroaches. The first night we saw them we said no problem we'll try to be understanding and ignore it. But then we saw them a second night and figured this was unacceptable for a 4 star hotel that we paid a premium for. We alerted the front desk of this situation and we had photos and videos of the cockroaches with us. We were told by the man at the front desk that \"cockroaches are common in tropical areas, they are more scared of you than you are of them.\" We were told to ignore them and we were offered a voucher for a meal at their hotel (not sure who would have an appetite to eat at a place with cockroaches). We instead politely asked for a different room but the front desk person refused and was annoyed with our request. After a long discussion he reluctantly agreed and we received a new room for that night. In addition to this, the rooms are not the cleanest. My son walked around our hotel for 5 minutes and his feet were black. Dust in the corners and bird poop all over the balcony. I would expect better service from a 4 star hotel and am very disappointment with the way my family was treated. I have never seen cockroaches at the other hotels I have stayed at in the area. I would not recommend staying at the Surfjack hotel. Save your money and book elsewhere

> Friendly staff, clean room, property is well maintained.
> Cafe downstairs is excellent (I'd come back to this cafe for the coffee alone).
> Pool is small, but cute with designated family/adult swim hours.
> Hotel has a great vibe and hosts events throughout the week.

Cons:
> The shower had occasional issues (turning off while in use). Staff seemed pro-active about the issue once I notified them.
> Walls were thin; allowing noise from TVs and conversations (at a normal volume) to be heard.
> Noticeable road noise at night.

I had a wonderful stay at this hotel. The staff are true professionals, very responsive, attentive, and always ready to help. Every time I had a question or needed assistance, they handled it quickly and kindly, which made me feel well taken care of.
The atmosphere of the hotel is warm and welcoming, and the service level is excellent. Despite one small issue during my stay, the hotel addressed it immediately, took responsibility, and offered a solution without any hesitation. Their approach really shows how much they value their guests and their comfort.
I truly enjoyed my time here and would gladly stay again. Thank you to the entire team for your professionalism and hospitality!

The hot water in our room took a while to get hot. The bed was not comfortable in my opinion could benefit from a mattress topper ( but it served its purpose) I would recommend staying.

This is where they excel: Friendly staff & budget-friendly in this costly state of Hawaii.
This is where they're convenient: Within walking distance of main-strip of downtown Waikiki. Reasonable walk's distance from a beach.
This is where they're average: This is a motel (not a hotel).
This is where they have much room for improvement: Maintenance and housekeeping! While the day-to-day housekeeping services were adequate, the curtains were filthy (ie, the sheers are dirty & frayed and need to be replaced; the room-darkening curtains are stained and unkept). In addition, the glass doors in the shower are not shiny, the casing around the doors is yellowed with age and cracked/chipped, there's too much evidence of mold/mildew in the sealant, and that old tile needs to be ripped up or re-grouted and then PROPERLY vacuumed and mopped between guests. The flooring in general (carpeting, vinyl, etc) was not impressive. Lastly, why were there so many other people's hair strands on my bathroom floor?

The parking is off site which makes it a tad inconvenient but it’s doable since you are only paying $20 dollars a night and every other hotel is almost $50 a night to park.

Staff was SUPER friendly!!! The hotel was nice- but if you are picky - maybe not for you! We could hear the guy next door snoring - so the walls are thin. Our A/C or something was buzzing all night. The view out the back balcony is very unappealing (residents balconies not nicely kept). Beds - very comfy!!! Pool and sitting area - VERY welcoming! Again- staff- GREAT!! Location - mega easy access to so many things - we walked so many places and tons of food options. So if you are low key/laid back - 100% recommend- I would stay again!!! Parking is brutal in garage a few blocks away!!!

Great location and cute hotel. The rooms were nicely decorated but not really clean. There was sand everywhere and the AC smelled funny. Staff was great and it was really convenient. Parking is off property and a bit of a walk.

I have to say, this place truly made my trip. From the front desk staff every single one of them to the room itself, everything was great.
It’s a charming spot with a laid back Hawaiian vibe, featuring live music every evening from 6 to 9 p.m. The onsite restaurant and bar are excellent, and the location is perfect, 4 minutes walk to the beach, you can literally can walk everywhere. I highly recommend to rent a scooter to go all the south east coast or just around.
The rooms are a comfortable size, clean, modern, and cozy.
What stood out the most was the staff: incredibly friendly, polite, and always eager to help.

Overall a good stay. Staff is really friendly and helpful. Good restaurants nearby. Only negative was the parking was 2-3 blocks away. We were fine with it and they have a little parking area out front for loading/unloading.

Pet friendly!!!!

Main reason to book this reservation was that it was \"pet friendly\". Of course, to visit the hotel dog \"Jack\". Staff are very friendly. The only down side is that the parking about block away.

Pool was cold, but everything was good otherwise. We ended up with a free upgrade to a two bedroom suite, and there was lots of space. Room was quiet and well kept, no issues at all.

Nice mid city Wakiki hotel

Friendly staff, nice two bedroom suite, comfortable and bright. Located in Wakiki but it's a about an 8 minute walk to the beaches.

Love. Love. Love this place. Great for families but was perfect for non kid having folks like us during adult hours. Love the adult swim time, the restaurant and the coffee shop! Cute rooms, comfy beds and great balconies. Near everything.
