Staff is really nice and helpful allowed us to check in early. Bar and pool vibes are great and everyone seemed to enjoy the area. Only concern is the room not being cleaned well. Skid marks inside toilet bowl upon arriving, dried up roach on the door and a strong moldy scent in the room with flies. Bedding looks like it could be replaced as well.

The hotel is a vibe! Great bar and pool chairs. Has a 60s/70s feel. Rooms were clean and had similar vibe. Hotel itself has a bit of a ‘motel’ feel. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Great location.

Pick your room wisely. Had me in a king room directly above a speakeasy that plays music until 1 a.m. for two out of four nights.
Should just advertise it for people wanting to party down as it was a large room.
Housekeeping, and front desk staff, no matter what time of day, were great, and very accommodating. Tons of amenities, and clean rooms. Proximity is close to beach and shopping.
purchase earplugs if you draw the short straw.

This motel is grossly misrepresented in media photos. The bar is cool and clearly a popular spot for tourists and locals alike. The accommodation spaces are filthy dirty, stained and unmaintained. The pool is ok. The location is a close walk off the main Waikiki strip, but the block between the White Sands and the strip is very smelly (garbage and dumpsters) and a popular smoking and sitting spot for unhoused locals. The room itself was musty and dirty; very musty. There was black mold in the shower tiles. Patio was unusable as it was directly over an alleyway and facing another apartment building. This is a hostel experience for Hawaiian resort prices!

$200 in valet fees, $140 in resort fees, plus a $200 hold on the card (that is still showing as a hold on my account over a day after checking out. Place had roaches. Its cute and the tiki bar is fun but the fees were more than the god damned stay at the hotel. Probably wont be back here again.

The pool area is a nice little oasis in the middle of the concrete jungle of Waikiki. Loved the swings at the pool bar.

Really cool vibe! I liked the courtyard area with the pool and the swings at the bar. The rooms are nicely styled. The hot tub tile could use some maintenance and the neighbors are quite close to the property. But for a relatively affordable yet cool stay I really enjoyed it here and would happily stay here again

Fine Room but needs hooks for towels and clothes. The swing bar however was knock your socks off and very friendly. The resort is literally close to everything. It was perfect for a quick trip to Waikiki as we were not in our room except to sleep and then moved elsewhere on the island.

we really enjoyed our stay at the white sands hotel. the staff was very friendly, and the hotel was well located downtown for a very reasonable price. our room took a little long to get ready (past check in time) but one of the managers more than made up for it by kindly giving us $50 food/drink credits. great service, great hotel and would absolutely recommend!

1. Good location in the center of Wakiki beach
2. Hotel offers great equipment such as GoPro, beach towel and other gears
3. Most staff are nice and helpful. Smooth and quick check-in / check out process
4. Free smoothies! (machine was broken most of the time)

Bad:

The bathroom has blood stains all over it - was very very disgusting and unhygienic. It was clear that no one thoroughly checked the room before guests are here. We requested to move to a different room and were subsequently placed to a room directly above the bar (again not a good gesture when you know it’s going to get very loud late into the night). The music was loud till 1am - we requested to move to a different room and things got better.

More to that, we had to drag our luggages by ourselves moving from one room to another. We had asked hotels to move our packed luggages. They said yes but it was not done.

Overall, it was only after 2 horrible nights out of 5 day-stay to be in a reasonably clean room as expected out of a moderate hotel.

Worst room I’ve ever been. Smell like mold, and no proper ventilation. Also found dead roaches. The fridge was noisy. It was holiday season so we were not able to change room for the first 6 days until our last night. The new room was much better. No weird smell. But it’s right above a restaurant which had loud party until 1 am.
The people working here are awesome. Friendly and helpful.

Place is a good location and price in terms of Hawaii.

I would be careful walking at night back to the hotel.
The main strip is well lit with some security and heavy foot traffic. It’s very dark when heading back and not well lit. My wife and I got chased by a crazy person and had to run into the liquor store on the corner on the way back about 30-40 feet from the hotel. There are also a lot of homeless outside the bar/pool hall on this street who will harass you.

Hotel is also noisy around mid/late afternoon due to the live music. There were also constant ants around our bathroom sink that would not go away and were there upon check in.

Hotel staff is super nice and someone is always at the counter if something is needed.

Pros: price, location, amenities
Cons: Safety, Ants, Loud music nightly

Would suggest this to younger travelers, and anyone who likes nightlife.

Room smelled humid/mildew maybe better ventilation, my allergies were activated. Room phone didn’t work but I was near front desk so I was able to walk to it and ask for assistance. No coffee machine in room and their coffee machine at lobby was broken. Free slushies from 11-4 but machine didn’t work. Hot tub tile was missing a lot of pieces, a little sharp but didn’t get hurt …So overall I have Mixed feelings, probably won’t come back

Maggam ( pronounced Meagan) the front desk manager in the morning was amazing. She made the trip. I had to go to a bank for a notary and She helped me find the closest one. Additionally, She makes the absolute best coffee. Maggam was cheerful to everyone. The pool area and the bar are awesome! I especially like the swings at the bar. iWaikiki.

This was my first ever visit to Hawai'i and my partner and I stayed 8 nights here at White Sands Hotel. I loved how friendly and helpful the staff was. Our room was clean, we loved the hot tub, and loved how close the hotel was in walking distance to so many things in Waikiki. We loved that we were able to borrow beach chairs for free as well. The food was good and a great option for us when we didn't want to leave the hotel area. We also loved the slushies and breakfast burritos at the front desk. The one thing that was kind of a bummer was that we had to valet our car every day/night because we had no other option and it got a little pricey. But even with that, the valet staff was super welcoming and helpful. We would definitely stay here again in the future.

The staff was really nice and helpful but for the price you pay to stay here the amenities just aren’t there. The bar is right in the middle and very noisy so no matter what room you get you will hear music until about 10:30-11 pm even though the bar closes at 9pm. Plus for the price, most of the drinks are tiny compared to the price tag. The pool is also right in the middle of everything so you hear all the people and the entrance is constantly wet. It also says that the rooms were all renovated recently but they don’t look it. The room we stayed in has some pretty bad water damage in the bathroom. The door and the wall were peeling and the wood was puffy from water also the shower is very small. And lastly I’m not sure what’s going on but I think the pipes are messed up. Everytime you or anyone else uses water there’s a scary loud banging in the wall. That, coupled with the springs in your back from the bed, the hole in the sheets and the noisy outside make for a terrible nights sleep. So although I appreciated the staff the hotel just isn’t worth the price you pay. My stay was almost 3,000 dollars and I came back exhausted and riddled with hip and back pain. And side note the restaurant IS the bar and again for the price, the foods nothing to write home about and they have a weird no outside food after 9pm policy. Staffs great! Everything else needs work.

I booked 2 rooms, upon check in they said they only had one on their records and I had to pull up my confirmation email to confirm. I checked in later at night and they ended up giving me a room that already had folks sleeping inside. Went downstairs to inform the person that checked us in and he said he was going to give us an upgrade but it wasn’t an upgrade. The rooms were also only cleaned once in our 4 night stay. But the extent of the cleaning consisted of making the bed and emptying the trash cans. It feels more of a motel instead of a hotel.

$50 per night valet parking, sometimes hard to find the valet person, hard to find a place in front to even use the valet. I had to drag down three heavy suitcases when I left, and no one was in sight to ask for help. NO ELEVATOR. Garbage route in the morning is LOUD. Room service after every three days, but it was clean. The beds are not good, very bouncy, and old.

Upside: Lovely staff! Super-nice Monday evening live music duo by pool/bar. Good location, without the corporate/high-rise atmosphere. No elevator, but assistance with luggage. Comfy bedding and good climate control in room. Good price for area.

Was hesitant at first at booking this hotel. I didn’t know what to expect as side from looking at the pictures especially for the price that I paid. Hotel is very convenient and walkable to places. All staff were wonderful and welcoming from valet staff to check in staff and the bar staff. Dakota and the other two bar tenders (forgot the other two guys’ names) that attended to us were wonderful and had some good recommendations of drinks. Check in agent were very welcoming. I forgot her name but when I asked for a late check out I was given a discount out of her own kind gesture. That was very kind and unexpected. Thank you! All in all stay was amazing and would likely consider booking this hotel again.

Its like walking into a Retro Hotel in the 1980;s awesome pool area, bar and food was excellent. Rooms are a good size , 3 storeys no lifts but manageable. easy access to shops, valet parking at a reasonable rate, live music a couple nights and a sneaky speak easy. Short staffed on the front counter, and rooms cleaned every other day but linen is freshed daily. great balconies facing inwards towards the pool area. White Sands Highly recommended.

INCREDIBLE. Loved it. Stayed at several other hotels in Waikiki at a similar price point over the years and White Sands was far and above in experience!! Obviously it’s no five star resort but it was clean, staff was awesome and friendly and helpful, food and drinks onsite were DELICIOUS. Pool and hot tub were both comfy. Free slushees in the afternoon were such a fun treat. And great location for walking to just about anything else off site you could need. We will 1000% absolutely stay here again!!!
