Breathtaking views of Mount Fuji right from the hotel. The breakfast was very good and the two onsens were a great experience. Free parking made everything very convenient. Overall a wonderful stay.

Good view of Mt Fuji, the Onsen was lovely too. Staff was a bit challenging to communicate and seemed a bit disorganized. Took way too long to arrange luggage transfer to my next destination AND it ended up arriving two days later. The grounds were nice to walk but not much to do around the area.

Great location to experience mt Fuji in a relaxed atmosphere.
We stayed in the Japanese style family room which was very spacious with beautiful lake views.
Both outdoor hot springs were really lovely, one with a view to Mount Fuji.
Breakfast was excellent with breathtaking view of mt Fuji. The staff were very helpful.
Some parts of the common areas in the hotel definitely need refreshing. But overall highly recommended.

This hotel has the best view for Mt Fuji. We got up 5:30 in the morning and enjoyed the sunrise and Pink Fuji. The best part was that we could enjoy the Mt Fuji from open air hot spring Onsen. It was the breath taking experience.

Exceptional hotel with stunning views of the lake and Mount Fuji. Perched alone on top of the hill it had a slight Shining feel to it. It has retained its chic 1960s decor.

The food is highly priced, but it was a simple shuttle ride down to the town and we had the pleasure of dining at Shoya restaurant which was also a highlight of our trip.

We loved our room. We reserved the room for for four with two futons and two western beds. The view was amazing from our balcony and the open air bath. We enjoyed everything. The only thing we wished we knew about the free shuttle. The walk up the hill was not fun or probably safe.

Helped me see Mt. Fuji at sunrise.

There was a thick layer of fog forming right above the Yamanakako Lake in the early mornig, which seems to be a common thing in this season. Because this hotel was above the fog it didn't obstruct our view of the beautiful Mt. Fuji at sunrise. It was a very clear and sunny day, and the fog cleared up within a couple of hours after sunrise.

If you are aiming for sunrise picture, this hotel really enhaces your chance of catching the precious view.

Love this hotel, very very good view of Mt Fuji (from balcony, as well as common area next to breakfast place)! the breakfast was AWESOME! Overall vibe is very chill kind + it is on hill top! awesome! didnt get to try onsen, did most of my relaxation in hotel bathtub. Heard that the reviews for natural onsen (indoor and outdoor) are superb here!!!! Will try the onsen the next time round. Location wise right next to the lake, did a easy walk around ◡̈ cheers!

To make it short; not recommendable at all. Staff does not speak English. They probably try there best but not professional at all. Hotel is old and worn. No sense for details. Kitchen/cooking smell is creeping it's way through the floors. We couldn't connect to the WIFI in our room, after one hour of trying we were told it might be because of our phones where not purchased in Japan so they have a different security level. A few hours later it suddenly worked. The hotel is definitely NOT worth the money.

Worse hotel I've stayed during my month trip to Japan. The only good thing about this hotel is the views. When first checked in they gave us the most atrocious room, old and horrible, I went to the front desk because that is not what I reserved and they acted like they knew and changed it without saying a word. There is a charge for everything, they make the stay a hazard instead of relaxing time. We asked the code for the pool, they provided the code and when we checked out we were charged for using the pool!!! WHAT? I'm paying for the hotel and not even the pool is included? That was a first. And the transportation to go in and out of if is horrible.

This hotel was great with a fantastic view of Mt. Fuji. Restaurant options for breakfast and dinner were top notch. We really enjoyed the food. We also appreciated the on site gift shop which was also a small market. Good selection of snacks and beverages. The staff was excellent and very helpful and accomodating. The hotel is a little remote (at the top of a steep hill). If you don't have your own car, it can be a bit of a challenge getting around, and relying on the shuttle.

We stayed here after climbing Mt Fuji and really enjoyed our stay. The hotel staff was nice. We were bummed out that the onsen is a public onsen and we ended up not using it because I was traveling with kids who were uncomfortable with it. Otherwise gorgeous hotel perched on a hill.

Even though it probably wasn’t the best for my son and I, this is a great Hotel. We just needed a place to crash before and after climbing Mt. Fuji. This place is for families and older folks. I was drawn in by the thermal Onsen and hopefully a spa day. Post climb massage etc.
Staff had zero clue as to what we needed. We walked the beautiful gardens and enjoyed Fuji sites from the Hotel, but no massage. No desire to Onsen with my kid. Brunch was nice. Bus couldn’t come fast enough to get us away from families. Was told to try the Udon but everything but Dennys was closed or full of a bus-load of kids was unloading into it. Outdoor patio was vacant.

Hotel Mount Fuji was an absolute nightmare to get to and from Tokyo and Kyoto. There is very limited public transport to get there and back. It’s also becomes costly with all the jumping on and off trains and buses to get there. Hotel only offered to drive us down the hill to the bus stop )5 minutes down hill) and their shuttle service did not coincide with the bus timetable leaving us sitting in the hot sun for 50 minutes before our bus arrived. We met other international travellers who complained of the same issue.
Very difficult to communicate with reception staff who struggled to understand us speaking English.
Hotel is based in a beautiful location but is very dated and run down. We wanted to use the swimming pool but it was closed down and looked like it had been for years.
Bedroom views were spectacular, rooms larger than anverage and very clean, breakfast buffet large anrray and good (though most Japanese hotels do not offer enough healthy options)). Onsen was a highlight and would recommend using whilst there, particularly the outdoor one. Loved the location but in hindsight we would never have visited had we known the travel stress

The staff were nice (if not overbearing) but the bar is only open from 9-12 despite its remote location. The prices accurately reflected supply and demand!

The interior of the rooms appears to be unchanged for the entirety of the 60 year stint that they are currently going on about being open for.
The doorway into the bathroom was so low that even with stooping, I continued to bash my head.

A breakfast where variety trumps quality and most of the food features salt as the main seasoning.

The views were lovely and pretty much the only brag this place has. I cannot recommend this place, especially when considering the early final outing for the free shuttlebus. This is a typical old onsen retreat and not suited to sightseeing or luxury.

I would definitely stay at this hotel just for the amazing Mt. Fuji views from the terrace. It is a nice property but certainly can use a refresh in the rooms and making the bathroom little bigger. The property is located on a small hill near the lake and they offer shuttle service that you have to book in advance. I wish they offer this more frequently. Finally, I wish the offer coffee and tea service in the afternoon after their main dining is closed.

I’m very disappointed with my experience here. While the property was beautiful and clean and the onsen pools were beautiful, the service here was some of the worst I’ve ever experienced. I arrived to the hotel around 10 AM at which point all of the restaurants and all of the Hot Springs and the gift shop were closed. It was pouring rain and foggy so there was nowhere to go except sit in the lobby with about a dozen other guests for several hours while we waited for our roomsto be ready. The hotel staff did nothing to accommodate us all waiting with nothing to do or eat or drink. Additionally, the shuttle bus only runs until 530 and there’s no other way to get off the hotel property without a car which I did not have and when I tried to make a reservation for dinner, they informed me that all of the restaurants were full. However, when I went by the restaurants, they were half full and in approaching the staff to sit, they said they were full to which I questioned how they were full If half the tables are empty. They said that people were coming, so I waited around for almost an hour, and the tables remain half full. I ended up buying instant noodles at the gift shop and eating in my room as a result. I was unable to see Mount Fuji due to dense fog, which would have been a great view. I ended up checking out a full day early because I was extremely disappointed with my experience and the service provided. I basically did nothing for the 1.5 days and would advise against stay

We stayed a total of three nights in April 2025. Very nice hotel with good dining as long as you plan and book in advance. It has public sauna and Onsen that we enjoyed. The biggest thing we liked was Mt. Fuji view from the terrace, it was breathtaking. As the hotel is located on a small hill, you need to book the shuttle down to the Yamanakako lake area or book a taxi at the front desk.

Very cool, retro early 60’s hotel that’s been well preserved. So many great things to say about this hotel great staff very welcoming excellent transportation shuttle options. The views are amazing huge patio with lounge chairs to relax and soak in the view of Mount Fuji many dining options. The buffet was excellent, filled with traditional Japanese and American breakfast choices known for its onson/Spa this hotel is truly a step back in time and such a treat. Favorite part of the property is the size of the guest rooms which were huge by Japanese hotel standards large sliding windows open to bring in fresh air and gorgeous views beautiful ropes slippers. This hotel is truly delight. Don’t miss the gift shop. Hope to visit again!

Negatives - Being high on a hill, you have to reserve a shuttle to take you down the hill. The restaurants on-site were closed when we arrived hungry. They were expensive and our sashimi was not very fresh. There is not even coffee in the lobby. The vending machines have awful selection of snacks.

It is a quiet and nice area with a lake and see the majestic Mt. Fuji, indoor pool, outdoor hot springs and indoor public bath. However, the staff do no speak much English, so are the room Tv- no English programs, the remote control doesn’t have English as display and no English menu. We really hope the hotel can improve these. Other than that, the food are excellent.

We had such an amazing stay at this hotel, our stay was only two nights and we wish we could have stayed longer. Not only was the hotel clean, quiet, and easy to get to, but the view from our room was beyond amazing. The ammenities were so lovely, with a quiet onsen spa with views of Fuji, and easy access to a hiking trail that leads to a beautiful viewpoint up on the hills. The best part of the hotel is the 2nd floor public bath (not the main bath on B1). If you can slip in there when there aren’t so many people, it’s one of the best Fuji View open air baths around. The main bath has two saunas and a large shallow open air bath. However, with a lot of foreign guests—particularly Chinese and Singaporeans —who talk at full volume while they should be relaxing in the bath quietly, it’s not such a great place to experience the real onsen culture. Better to go somewhere else to have a quiet bath atmosphere.

The hotel itself certainly is showing its age with a lot of dated decor, though the rooms are generally clean and rather big. The views from the private balconies are excellent.

Don’t expect much from the breakfast buffet as most of the offerings seem to be of the frozen food variety. The omelet bar was nice though.

A true traditional experience.

View from our room to the lake and Mount Fuji was worth every single penny. Highly recommended that you either rent a car or be prepared to pay for taxis to go down to the town and restaurants.

Most of the times it will be around 2,200 yens for a one way trip, so consider this in your expenses.

Great traditional hotel with the opportunity to have a private onsen in the hotel.

The staff at the hotel were extremely helpful when we needed assistance! The team at the Mt. Fuji hotel were very friendly and assisted us with whatever we needed. The view of Mount Fuji from the hotel was amazing! We ended up walking up the mountain to the hotel, as we did not initially know about the shuttle bus but that did not prove to be too difficult. Our stay at Hotel Mt.Fuji was a good experience overall. Although the hotel is 60 years old, the rooms were clean and comfortable. The building could use some exterior renovations. The views of Mt Fuji were spectacular from the room and courtyard. The staff was friendly and helpful. The included breakfast was great. The dinner restaurants (only two) were a bit pricey but the food was very good. We really enjoyed the hot pools with magnificent views. The shuttle service to the bus stop at the bottom of the hill and back up was mandatory. There's no way you can hike up and down that hill to the hotel, There's a handful of places to eat and shop around the lake area. Nice and quiet retreat from the busy city.

I feel I was half changed with this property. Swimming pool was not open, onsen were split into men and women so I couldn’t be with my girlfriend. They also were strict on tattoos which was nowhere on Expedia and nudity was required which again was not specified. Breakfast we had to wait 20 minutes to get into and then they had already run out of food in some areas 1 hour before it closed. Will be trying to be refunded partially for my stay

Cons: the hotel is far from the main road but there is a shuttle that we haven’t aware of it, so we had to get a taxi to the hotel first day.

Great location, nostalgic, one major downside

Overall the stay was good. Staff was really friendly and helpful! Great service.
Room style was still in the 70’. Somewhat nostalgic. What is kind of great to experience in my opinion. Overall the room was clean. Major downside poor maintained bathroom, with mold on the ceiling. A hotel in that category must do better than this.
One of the major highlights is a great breakfast with an awesome view on Mt Fuji (if the weather allows).

Disappointed

We were given a room in the older wing and it felt we had gone back in time. Room was tired and desperately in need of an update.
Very quiet with little atmosphere. Views across the lake and towards Mt Fuji were impressive - looks like this is what the hotel trades on.

You need to make a reservation at the hotel in advance if you would like to eat there. Otherwise there are a lot of nice places around the lake.

Lovely hotel.

Lovely hotel, with outstanding views.
Room was very large and comfortable.
Hybrid western Japanese for comfort and style.
Nature walk was lovely, and great to see a flying squirrel.
Staff were friendly and efficient.

Hotel Mt. Fuji is a gem. The service was excellent, the food delicious, the attention to detail meticulous and the onsen inviting. If you are lucky enough to visit the area on a clear day, the property is situated on an hill and offers stunning views of Mt. Fuji. We loved staying at this charming hotel. They recently celebrated their 60th anniversary and I can see why it continues to thrive all these years.

The spa is amazing, the town it’s self is not tourist friendly at all taxis close down early if you leave the hotel for dinner good luck getting back
