the staff was very nice and helpful. the hotel is beautiful. there are A LOT of stairs, but dont let it deter you unless you are unable to climb multiple flights. The beds are VERY firm, but it seems like all of them in Italy are. The only thing that I would change was the breakfast. It's not included and its minimal. We chose to eat breakfast other places for variety and cost comparison.

Our window overlooked the storage area outside for chairs etc. the location is very good near St Mark Square, unfortunately that was the only saving grace. The bed was rough. For the price, I would look elsewhere, 2 nights in Sept with the city tax and all said and done was nearly $650 USD.

The hotel has a good location, very close to restaurants and important sites. The decor is frightening. From the moment you walk in, the bad smell is very strong. The smell of damp inside the room is overwhelming. It's very noisy inside the hotel. There's no elevator. And something very strange is that you have to leave your room keys at reception; you have no privacy

We could literally hear whole conversations, mobile phones, and pretty much everything else. I would advise ear plugs if I was to return.

I booked a room at this hotel to spend a night after a day in Venice. The room was not expensive so I was not expecting luxury. The room was dated but fine for somewhere basic to sleep after a busy day exploring. What it really has going for it is the location, its approx a 5 minute walk from St Marks Square and felt safe.

The room smelled horrendous
The room provided the bare minimum. There were plenty of towels and a concierge available 24 hour. We got the room we expected but it was a very damp and dark room. The smell inside the room smelled like feet and vomit and was so strong we were uncomfortable the entire time we were inside the room. Needless to say we got horrible sleep. I suggest you read the reviews before booking here and spend a little more for a different location and hotel.

We walked everywhere and the vaparetto location was very close when we went to go the Murano and Burano. The staff was very helpful to answer all our questions and the breakfast and cleaning staff were excellent. Thanks for the nice stay.

Crepiest hotel I’ve ever been. Receptionists were friendly. But the room was super old, dark, dirty, and super creepy. It was horror movie hotel. Bags of laundry at the entrance.

We had a very nice room and the staff were very friendly. I think people dined elsewhere as I never saw anyone in the dining area for breakfast or dinner. We came back with a to go box since I couldn't finish my meal and he informed us that we could not eat in our room. We could store it in the refrigerator but we would need to come to the dining area to eat. That was a little odd, I'm 55 and have never been told I can't eat in the room. Bathroom may have been the smallest of our trip, but room was very clean and beautiful. We were asked to settle up our bill the night before we checked out, which was fine, and made an easier day when we left. Again, very friendly staff, and clean. One note with Venice and this location, I may be a touch hesitant on staying here as a solo traveler only because of the narrow side street it was on, but staying alert and aware of your surroundings it would be fine.

Although common for many of the places we stayed in Europe, hard mattress and 4th floor without an elevator was difficult. Small but clean room. Bathroom updated. Breakfast for 10€/ea was cereals, breads, yogurt and coffee, tea and juices. Location was about 1-2 minutes walk to the harbor and St Mark’s.

Hotel Castello is full of old world charm from the heavy brass century entry doors to the ornate Venitian glass chandeliers and old Italian style furnishings and room decor. I LOVED the roof deck for grabbing a glass of wine and relax from the busyness of the day. Hotel Castello is exactly what I needed in Venice. I also felt perfectly safe as a female solo traveller. There is only a restyfor breakfast but that isn’t a problem in a city like Venice. I wouldn’t advise Castello to people who can’t walk stairs though as stairs are involved in navigating the property.

Employees were very respectful and attentive. It definitely isn’t a modern hotel but I had everything I needed and was able to rest. They do ask you to leave your room key at the front desk. I was a little uncomfortable with it. But if you think about it, other hotels have master keys for housekeepers to get in. There are no elevators but they did help us with our luggage. I would go stay there again for sure.

Very good location - you could walk to/reach St Mark's Square within minutes. It was a stay for one night. The room was clean. The staff were friendly and helpful. Air conditioning in rooms could be much better especially as we stayed at the hotel in August, or perhaps a fan could be provided. Thank you.

There was no elevator. We had to take 62 steps to our room on the third floor. The aisle on the way to the hotel looked shady. Nevertheless, Saad was most helpful.

It seems to be one of the most cost-effective and accessible hotels around Piazza San Marco. The staff were all friendly and the breakfast buffet was good quality for the price. The bathroom was renovated and felt like a 5-star hotel, and the room was clean. The air conditioning was a little weak so it was a little stuffy, but it was enough to endure the summer nights in Venice. Highly recommended

Great stay! Very nice for the price offered and in a great location. The patio was wonderful. One issue is there was no elevator and we had to trek three flights of stairs.... but there was an AMAZING bellhop (I believe his name was Assan!) who was very helpful with our bags. The decor was dated but cute and the room could've used a dusting, but the facilities were clean and updated so its silly to complain.

This property really needs some renovation. Smells like an old damaged property. The room size and cleanliness is not great at all. Bathroom is clean and renovated. No blankets were provided. There was a blanket in the closet which is used by every guest that stays there as there is no cover on the blanket. It does not fit a hospitality industry standard. They don’t even offer a complimentary water bottle. There is no elevator and if you have luggages with you good luck. Specially if you get your room on the 3rd floor then you’re definitely gonna feel it. Very very old property and the rooms have weird smell. We found a crawling bug on my bed. I forgot to take a picture of it as I was panicking. If it was first floor it would’ve made a bit more sense but I was on the 3rd floor so really didn’t make any sense. Definitely would not recommend it. Not too friendly staff. Some were okay but the rest were not so helpful. The mirror in the room has rusts all over it. It was so old you can’t even see your face properly. I was not going write anything honestly but then the review popped up so I had to. I did read about the no elevator on one of the review but I did not think it’s gonna be this bad. Not sure how this property has such a high rating honestly. Maybe because it’s right by the tourist area where the church is. The tourist area. Very much walkable a lot of shopping center but that’s anywhere you stay in this area as I realized. Good luck!

Really enjoyed our stay at Hotel Castello, very central, short walk to San Marco. All the staff were so lovely, always smiling when they greeted you and extremely helpful. the cleaners were all so friendly and polite.

We were able to have one family room to suit my husband and I and 16 and 19 year old teens.
It was close to all the shops and main tourist attractions.
Although this caused no issues for us there is no lift and the shower was inside a bath which may make it difficult for elderly or disabled.

The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful! My friend and I had booked a room with two twin beds, but were given a room with one double. The staff were accommodating and ended up moving us to a bigger room that had two twin beds. The hotel is in a great location! It’s super close to Piazza San Marco, shopping, and dining!

The good: Hotel is an amazing location - 5 min walk away from the St. Marks square. The shared terrace/patio is amazing and great way to hang out and enjoy a meal.
The bad: The room has a severely limited number of power plugs. The room feels that it was not updated in a considerable amount of time. The air conditioning units were not cleaned in a considerable amount of time. As when had them working, I noticed respiratory issues with my girlfriend (a lot of coughing at night) and basically my nose was completely blocked.

This is an older property in the \"newer\" (600 yr) section of venice. It was a little difficult to find on thr map originally, but once figured out, was in an amazing part of town near great restaurants, the Bridge of Sighs, etc. We had a small issue with our original room and the staff went above and beyond to fix things. Lovely people. Honestly, would be five stars if we'd mapped it out faster and if there werent quite so many stairs with your luggage.

After a long flight from Barcelona Spain we arrived to find the room was not ready although they were “expecting us”! The 105 room was in a deplorable condition, air conditioning not working, “desk” top totally worn out. The guy at the reception was at the phone for more than 10 minutes and ignored us until we asked him if someone else was available to check us in. The only good at this place is the bellboy Asad, who was more than happy to help us and couldn’t hide his embarrassment for what was happening to us! He deserves a better place to work with!!

Venice can be expensive, so this was a perfectly suitable budget option. The staff were excellent, and really made the experience lovely. The breakfast was an extra charge, and was a bit limited, so we opted to go out for breakfast. The area is walkable and has lots of great dining options. The staff cleans very regularly and thoroughly, so even though the design motif uses a lot of fabric (which can sometimes be incompatible with a crisp look), I felt that the hotel was clean. The room was basic, but comfortable. The air conditioning worked great, and there was a lovely rooftop terrace. It's walking distance to lots of the famous sights of Venice, so that's why we stayed there, and it worked out perfectly. Again, the staff was wonderful!
