I enjoyed my stay here. The location was great and close to many shops and cafes. The room was clean and worked well for my needs. The bathroom was a touch dated, however it was more than suitable. The staff were friendly and assisted me with laundry services which was absolutely clutch for only traveling with a carry on for several weeks.

The hotel is aged but the furniture and care is quite well. It was a comfortable stay. The biggest problems are floor creaks (expected) and in my room corridor light was visible from sides of the door which was not ideal.

For a first time trip to Rotterdam, we were very pleased with Hotel Van Walsum. The neighborhood is quiet but has restaurants and bars within easy walking distance. Everyone at the hotel was friendly and very helpful. Our room included breakfast which was very good.

What a lovely little Rotterdam secret! This hotel is run by the third generation of family, and they pay attention…. to you. Hospitable and warm, it is clean quiet and centrally located in walking distance to everything! The smell of fresh baked croissants in the morning and their lovely breakfast are the way each day starts in this pleasant hotel. Excellent value!

Good location, walkable from Rotterdam central station but also only a few steps away from the tram stop which goes directly to the station. Quiet location with lots of restaurant options around. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Even though I asked a stupid question about why I needed the elevators to get to my room on the first floor (in North America first floor = ground floor), the receptionist was patient in explaining to me. They also helped answer questions about transportation around the city. It’s a great value property.

We loved this hotel. There was a warm welcome and we had a beautiful family room with outdoor space accessible from it. The room was really well-equipped with a coffee machine that made lovely coffee, hair dryer and loads of towels. Location was fantastic with easy access to the city sights. Really recommend this hotel.

We were upgraded to a huge apartment, with a full kitchen, living room and bedroom. Lots of space, and great for us, as I am an early riser and hate disturbing the others.

BUT the apartment was at the top of 3 Dutch staircases. Lots of stairs here.

Comfortable and very well-equipped room with tea and coffee-making facilities, room safe, and iron/ironing board. The room was cleaned to a high standard every day during our stay. The front desk staff are friendly, professional and very helpful. The hotel is close to a tram stop (4, Mattenesserlaan) and about 15 minutes on foot from the Central Station.

Great spot just west of centre . Set back off main road , so there is some traffic noise , but not unbearable . Room spacious and clean , great buffet breakfast . We stored our rental bikes in secure area at rear if hotel , this is the carpark for hotel too .

We had a large double room with big windows overlooking the small garden and a small single on the top floor with a window on the street (3rd, lift all the way up). There were no problems, reception was always manned, beds were warm and comfortable and the breakfast was decent (continental or full English, fruit, cereal, juice, etc.).

A very comfortable room, with helpful and courteous staff. Breakfast buffet is very good. The hotel is located in short walking distance of many Rotterdam attractions, but is quiet at night. Bicycle parking could be better, as the covered area is very small for the number of bikes there.

For an older hotel it is wonderful! The staff are very helpful, the breakfast was great (and the outside dining area was so nice), it's a short walk to the metro, buses stop in front of the hotel, and there are some good restaurant choices a block way. We'd definitely stay here again if we were in Rotterdam.

Location is great. The special rate offered online is truelly low end room and least desired accommodation. I had mosquito bites the next morning. Fortunately, the matriarch of the establishment is service oriented and he offered an upgrade to another room for additional cost.
As far as the service, it depends on who’s at the reception desk.

Stayed at the Van Walsum hotel for 3 nights in September 2017. The hotel is well located near to the Museums and is small but quiet and near to restaurants and bars. It is a little tired and the rooms are small but clean. The staff are really helpful. The breakfast was good with a wide selection of cold foods and a few hot breakfast items. This is a three star hotel which easily matches its rating and I would stay again if I visited Rotterdam again

A pleasant stay with helpful staff and an excellent full Dutch breakfast including eggs and fruit, featuring local organic products. Rooms are fairly small but adequate with amenities including refrigerator and kettle. Single bed long enough for a tall person. Good wifi. Hotel upgraded to emphasize sustainability, with solar-panel assisted water heating and a low-flow shower head, but everything worked well. Heat goes off at night at times in winter but good for sleeping: rooms are therefore not overheated if you like it on the warmer side. Quiet snd restful. Plan on staying there again

a nice hotel, which was clean and quiet and well run in a historic feeling part of Rotterdam. It is near to lots of shops and restaurants and only a few minutes walk or tram from the city centre and museums. While not hugely modern or elaborate, everything works well and is pleasant.

I stayed for 9 nights and was very pleased. Friendly staff, a good selection breakfast buffet and comfortable room. The hotel is on a fairly quiet side street but with plenty of restaurants and cafes around the corner. A 10-15 minutes walk to the railway station, Delfshaven, the main museums or shopping district. If you add another 10-15 minutes of walking you can reach most sites in Rotterdam e g the Waterbus (ferry) to Kinderdijk and take in the views at the same time. Public transport nearby as well. Rotterdam is also well suited as a base for day trips to most parts of the Nederlands e g Haarlem and Eindhoven is approximately 1 hour away by frequent direct trains.

Other than the furniture in my room needing an update. My room was comfortable and clean. The hotel is situated 5 mins from resturants and shops and a good starting point for the carnival. The staff are nice, helpful and friendly. Breakfast is good with a lovely selections including scrambled eggs, bacon and baked beans. Will stay again, but in a room with modern features.

What a lovely hotel.

We arrived after midnight but there was a very welcoming staff member to show us to our room. 24 hour reception is a definite plus. The room was very comfortable and everything was as described on the website. Furnishings are tasteful and interesting, breakfast was all you expect from a hotel in a higher category.

This is not a modern building, and this is why we chose it, there are nice period features plus a lift. Great location.

The staff members were very friendly and gave us lots of tips about transport and where to visit. If I visit Rotterdam again I will definitely stay here and would recommend it to friends and colleagues.

Best part of this hotel is the breakfast. The rooms are very out-dated and we were unlucky to be neignouring two rooms that had their noisy guests going in-and out until deep into the night. We were then upgraded to the 'apartment', which was fine on the lower level, but weird on the higher one (e.g. a bath in the middle of the room due to 'a mistake by the architect').

Very welcoming hotel staff, book in was quick and easy and I was offered a free map of the city and advice on places to visit. I had a single room with en suit bathroom, the size was pleasantly large (bigger than my room in halls of residence at uni!). Tea supplies were excellent, with both my favourites catered for (Earl Grey and Green Tea with lemon). The coffee was the normal sachets of instant.

Breakfast is buffet self service, which is my personal preference. There was an excellent choice of food and drink and plenty of tables available. The staff were yet again helpful and polite.

The only downside for me is that the room cleaning starts so early... though I do not have much experience in hotels, so maybe that is the norm. But I didn't have to meet up with my colleagues until 10.30am, so had to put the 'do not disturb' sign on the door in fear of scaring the cleaning staff as I lounged in bed with my cup of tea and book.

The location of the hotel was very convenient, just a 10 minute walk from the Centraal train station, and close to the city centre shops and coffee shops/restaurants.

Overall I would highly recommend this hotel, if I am ever back in Rotterdam I will definitely be staying here again!

my mom and i stayed for 5 nights, I was a little worried being the rate I got was so resonable , I was so empressed with the hotel. lovely breakfast , clean clean modern bathrooms, The room itself was spotless. All the staff was so friendly. If I come back to rotterdam this will be my hotel once again . Located is such a friendly part of the city , good resturants and close to everything . if was 4 bus stops from central train station and a 2 min walk.

A Nice place to Stay

This is our third stay at the Van Walsum, it is a small (I believe) family run hotel. The staff are very helpful and accommodating. The reception staff are bilingual (possibly multi lingual), so any information requested is never a problem. We are frequent travellers to Rotterdam, and we have tried other hotels but have always returned to the Van Walsum, and intend to do so on our next visit to the city.

Having never been in Holland before, we had quite a hard time to reach our hotel but fortunately the young girl at reception was very patient with us and understanding. She upgraded our room at no extra cost. Finding the private car park was quite difficult. She made a plan for us and very patiently explained everything. The following night the reception was tended by a young man who was also extremely nice. Could not recommend it more!

Check room allocation

The description on Hotels.com was wrong and we were initially given a very poor room with no city view, no tea/coffee facilities and no fridge. The hotel manager was very helpful and was able to upgrade us to a very nice room. Would advise checking that you have the standard of room you are expecting. The hotel was well located for walking into the city or picking up a tram or bus - a 3 day pass can be purchased and we got ours from the central station.

The Van Walsum is a traditional Dutch hotel in a quiet city centre street. The rooms are clean and comfortable with a modern bathroom. Staff are friendly and the excellent buffet breakfast can still be enjoyed a little after 10am at weekends if try your luck.

A boutique hotel in need of updating

Hotel Van Walsum is a bit of a paradox. Everything was adequate with the exception of the actual room. The staff is friendly and helpful. The dining room was cozy and the breakfast was nice (very good coffee). The hotel has a lounge/work area which is spacious and comfortable. The bathroom was spare but clearly renovated and adequate. Unfortunately, the visit took a turn for the worse with the actual room. The room was Very small. There was hardly room to move around for me and my wife with the suitcases in the room. The walls have pealing wallpaper that badly needs replacing. The twin bed mattresses were uncomfortable. We visited with friends all day and late into the evening which minimized the impact of these inconveniences. Caveat emptor for anyone who needs to spend time there.

Awesome stay!

We loved our stay here! We were only in Rotterdam for two nights, so the close proximity of this hotel to the metro and all the sights was perfect. It was also close to some good restaurants including a pizza place on the corner that was excellent. Our room was beautiful and extremely comfortable. The staff was so nice, and they were always helpful and willing to chat about the city. My girlfriend and I enjoyed a very nice conversation over wine with two of the night workers.
