Good scenic location and very comfy bed. Staff were not very friendly, especially the older porter who was decidedly grumpy!
We thought we had paid in advance only to be told we owed the amount on arrival.
We were told it was a 20 minute walk into town but it was over half an hour.
The place needed a lot of tlc including tatty chairs on our balcony and broken tiles on the floor. Our shower sprayed water everywhere, flooding the bathroom. No hairdryer or fridge.

The grounds are well kept and it is very clean. We paid a premium rate because the kitchen but it was not well equipped. It did not have the minimum that you could expect. No coffee maker, or toaster, only 2 pots, 3 plates, 3 glasses, not enough cutlery, and they don't provided any kitchen towels and only 1 knife. We ended up not using it.

Great boutique hotel with very friendly service

Really enjoyed our family stay at this small lakeside hotel. Our room was lovely rustic chic, clean and had very good aircon.
The breakfast each morning was superb- a mix of buffet items and ordering a la carte.
So far the best cocktails I’ve tasted on this 2 week trip.
Good proximity to main “town” and other restaurants

Very beautiful. Staff doesnt speak much english but were very kind and helpful to me as i speak broken english being from newfoundland and i dont speak a lick of spanish. A1 front desk staff. This is essentially a really nice hostel with shared facilities and amazing view so keep that in mind. We took a boat trip with John and he was AMAZING. Very nice knowledgeable man. And made our trip very special

Best ever!!

Casa Bakal was exceptional. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable and provided guidance for different activities. The cleaning team did an excellent job in cleaning our bungalow.

The location is perfect and the views are breathtaking. A very important factor was that it was pet friendly and our little guy was very happy there as well.

From arrival to departure the staff made sure we had an excellent experience and we absolutely did. Casa Bakal is definitely a return destination, often.

The reservation did not specify that the bathroom was outside and shared, otherwise i would not reserve, however, the staff always maintained the facilities clean. My cabana was the 4th one (in front of the lagoon) so when the tide goes up all the grass gets wet making difficult to walk from the cabana to the main areas, some wood carpet would help to avoid this.

Other than that the facilities are nice, the location is privilege, it is close to the restaurants and local attractions.

I would be back for sure!!

Our family of 3 stayed in the room with 4 twin beds (backpacker style!) when we stayed during the annular eclipse. The room was very basic, especially the bathroom, but the view was stunning. We loved the pool, dock and ease of checking out the included kayaks and paddleboards. Service was excellent and everyone was so friendly - some of the best service we have experienced in Mexico. The only downside was the beds were quite hard and could use some kind of softer covering. Overall, highly recommend!

We had a great time at CasaBakal, it's the perfect location right on the lagoon with a lovely pier to sit on and watch the sunset. Our intial room was very small, the photos do hide this a bit with just one bed and not much space around it! Luckily they were able to move us to a bigger room which was perfect. The staff were lovely and kind.

The property was in a fantastic location on the lagoon. The hotel was well kept, clean, quiet, felt safe and the staff was excellent. The only drawback was that we had to take a taxi to get to other restaurants and shops. We also had the sink spring a leak on our room, but it was quickly fixed and cleaned up. I will surely come here again.

One of them most beautiful places on earth. Danny at the desk was so helpful. The food was wonderful and the staff so polite and kind. We went kayaking and took the 3 hour sailing trip around the lagoon. The guides on the sail boat were fun and knowledgeable about the area.
Met some wonderful people from around the world and one family we'll be keeping in touch with !!
I love this smaller size, quaint hotel, I wouldn't change a thing about it !!

I think Casa Bakal is the best choice for Bacalar… gorgeous setting with kayaks and paddle boards always available. The food was lovely and reasonably priced, fresh cold water always available and not served in eco-unfriendly plastic bottles. The breakfast was fantastic with fresh fruit and a great menu. Also easy to walk into town or cycle to the cenote. We took the three hour boat ride as well and the guys were great :)

Perfect location on the lagoon. The room was clean and spacious, amenities were plentiful, water was hot which is a rare treat in Mexico. If you are looking for a nice place in Bacalar and want to be on the water, this place ranks pretty solid. Room could benefit from the use of some screens in the bathroom window.

I dont want to let the secret out but CasaBakal is unbeatable. The complimentary breakfast is great. The restaurant food is fantastic and the prices are super fair. It resides on the best part of the lagoon (towards the south side). The swimming in front is ideal. We took their boat out for the whole day and got to see the whole lagoon. Overall I would recommend staying here if you get the chance. Will be back.

Loved staying here!!! This was a great place for a relaxing getaway. The best perks were that the hotel stay included free use of their kayaks and paddle boards, it is right on the lake and breakfast was also included. Breakfast was too order and was delicious. My boyfriend and I had an amazing time at CasaBakal! The entire staff was amazing. Maru at the front desk helped us make reservations at local restaurants and arrange taxis for us and MIna at the bar was super friendly. We chartered the sailboat for a day with Juan and that was a incredible experience. I would definitely recommend this stay to anyone.

AMAZING! The hotel is located right on the Lake and it has the most amazing view. Breakfast is served in a semi outdoors deck with full view of the lake. The food is varied enough that you can try everything during your week stay. It was quite good. The water by the lake is clear, so much so, you can stand with water up to your waist and still see the bottom. The hotel includes use of kayaks and stand up boards. There plenty of space that even if the place if full, you will not feel crowded. We look forward to visiting again soon.

CasaBakal is a Paradise. It is super beautiful with the crystal clear lagoon views. Make sure to check out the sunrise. It is majestic! Our bungalow is spacious and clean. The complementary breakfast and juices are delicious. The staff are extremely helpful. This is such a relaxing place that I wish we can stay here for a few more days just to sit by the pool/lagoon to enjoy the amenities/ drinks /food offered by the hotel. The prices for food and drinks are reasonable. The hotel also provides paddle boards and kayaks for free.
Highly recommended! I would stay for 5 nights.

Wonderful, peaceful oasis. I stayed for 3 nights as a solo traveler at the end of my trip - I was unsure if it would be worth the 4 hour drive down but it WAS. I think I scheduled too many tours during the day - it's not even really necessary to leave the resort. They have a bunch of free paddleboards and kayaks, and their own sailboat and hobie that they will take you out on for a fee. 3 docks means you can always find one to have to yourself for some solitude. One dock has shade, hammocks, and stairs for getting out of the water. There's also a pool, and tons of lounge chairs everywhere to sit.

breakfast was included and very delicious, they had fruit and coffee and cereal and then you could order an entree. The \"snack bar\" has food from 12-5, I loved the vegetarian tacos. If you want food after that, there are other restaurants a few doors down, including a vegan place.

the bar is open until 10 and was exactly what I was hoping for. it was so great to order a glass of wine or a cocktail and watch the sunset over the lake.

if you want a very chill, luxurious stay, this is for you. For parties go elsewhere!

Wifi was good in the common areas and restaurant, spotty in rooms - don't recommend if you plan on working remotely in your room.

I stayed in a cabana which I think would be a must, the rooms in the main house seemed like they would be loud. Cabana had thatched roof and I could hear so many birds, that was the best thing (besides the AC of course).

Primero los puntos buenos: el hotel es muy bonito y tiene una de las áreas de \"playa\" más grandes de la zona; el personal es realmente amable y se esfuerzan muchísimo por asegurarse de que todo esté bien y el hotel está muy bien ubicado. No menos importante, el restaurante es de verdad riquísimo y las porciones son grandes.
Va lo malo: los cuartos están muy mal. Reservamos el bungalow estándar, que era más caro y chiquito que otros cuartos que en la página se veían peor, y tenía muchos problemas. Al tener techo de palma, caían animales a la cama, como gusanos y escarabajos. No servía el agua caliente, tampoco una de las lámparas del costado de la cama, había hongos en la regadera y esta tenía la cerradura oxidadísima y las cerraduras del cuarto tenían muchísimos problemas. La nuestra no se podía cerrar desde adentro y las de las otras personas que nos acompañaron no abrían o no cerraban tampoco. Al quejarnos con la recepción, nos cambiaron a un cuarto más grande ya con agua caliente y un techo de más calidad, que no tenía animales que caían pero tenía una bolsa de basura negra en una zona al parecer tapando un hueco. El tercer cuarto en el que estuvimos no tenía siquiera cerradura en la regadera, entonces la puerta se quedaba entreabierta y tampoco había agua caliente. En el cuarto de uno de nuestros acompañantes se cayó una ventana y en el de los otros no había agua caliente tampoco. Da la impresión de que cobran como un hotel buenísimo pero no invierten nada para ello.

It is a beautiful old building and very nicely laid out garden. The deck leads right up to the lagoon and there is a spectacular view especially in the morning over the bay. The water pressure is excellent and staff are very absolutelly lovely.
The breakfast experience is good enough. It is a-la-carte (think fruits, yoghurt, omelet and so on) in combination with a coffee/juice/tea/toast/jelly/butter buffet. It makes for a nice and simple combination.

The maintenance leaves to be desired. The bungalows look very nice from far but the bathroom, the bedding, and the towels are in need of an upgrade. The main issue in the bathroom is moisture, which led to mold, peeling paint and a smell of moisture.
