Needs updating! Carpet in room looked like it hadn't been changed or cleaned in eons. Rainfall shower dripped even when not in use. Either burn marks or something was stuck on multiple pieces of furniture.

Enjoyed our stay here

Hotel was lovely. Restaurant and bars were very nice and had a good vibe. Rooms were nice and clean. Dog was allowed everywhere so could sit in restaurant at dinner etc. would return if staying in Rotterdam. Bus stop very close to hotel, so good transport links to the centre.

Let down by poor room

Staff were nice enough and ok hotel. But the room was not good; a so called double bed was two twins together and it only ever wanted to seperate in the middle. The aircon made a very subtle noise all night, making it hard to sleep, the room we had did not black out either, with the windows (which you couldn’t open to get air in) looking down into the foyer, so constant light all night. All of which made it hard to sleep.

Extremely disappointing stay

Stale hotel - comfortable beds and good blackout curtains but light comes in through a large gap in the bedroom door. Kettle and hairdryer in room didn’t work, they had no room available for me at check-in time, common parts on my floor (4) were filthy. Battery was low on my door lock so awkward to get into the room. Staff were indifferent to issues. Room is really badly appointed with big sections unlit. It’s not even handy for Rotterdam. I would absolutely not recommend.

Ok value for money, nice staff, but a bit rundown

Easy check in and out, staff helpful and friendly. Place is not as clean as it was when I visited 6 months ago and the room I had was a bit run down. Breakfast is not a bad selection, but overpriced as it’s quite poor quality. Overall the hotel is quite good value for money though and well located near the airport. Not well located if you need to be near the centre, but the local bus service is not bad.

The hotel was okay- reception staff were polite and helpful, the room was quiet and bed was comfy.
However we ate in the restaurant and it’s the worst service I have ever experienced. It took 10 minutes to even be acknowledged, every waiter walked straight past us. It took us ages to get the waiters attention to order as well. We were repeatedly ignored. There were plenty of staff and they were not full.
As it was the only option to eat in the hotel we felt we had no choice- would not recommend the restaurant.

Terrible hotel with the photoshop interior and exterior, made probably years ago. We couldn't take shower how good and clean it is. Hotel has super advertisement but almost everything is wrong. Everything is good for 1 star motel. It is just overrated.

Nice but looking a bit tired.

We have stayed here a few times and the front of house is beautifully decorated, as its december the hotell has a festive theme throughout. The rooms however are looking tired. The restaurant serves a varied selection of food and caters for most tastes. I highly recommend the breakfast buffet.

Disappointing 2nd stay

Our 2nd time at this hotel ... disappointed to say, we were not as impressed on this occasion.
There was dust around the bed legs and on the top of the headboard. One morning we were preparing to go out when the housekeeper knocked on the door. We did not have a 'do not disturb' sign and I tried to ask her to come back later but she didn't understand and came in anyway to change the bedding and towels. My husband and I were partly dressed and my 10 year old grandson had just finished showering and found it very embarrassing. We went out and returned later to find the cleaning had not been completed - bathroom was untouched, cups hadn't been cleaned and tea, coffee etc had not been replaced.
On our last evening, we returned from a long day out to find an extra bed had been brought in, presumably in preparation for the next occupants.
Will be going to Rotterdam again but will most probably not stay here.

Nice hotel, but not much in the surrounding area, other than the zoo. For the price of the rooms I’d have expected breakfast to be included.
Rooms were comfortable and clean, pillows were luxurious but enormous! Not for the people who like to sleep face down.
Food in the restaurant was tasty and reasonably priced.
The most expensive part of the trip was traveling. Taxi from the hotel to Rotterdam central 25€ 😲.

Ok hotel but disappointed

Check-in was quick, limited free parking space and we needed to pay 4 euros per day. Hotel is ok. Hotel needs to be refreshed as the smelll of cigarette is obvious. Hotel rooms needs renovating as it is out dated. Overall disappointed with the hotel - not as what I have expected from Van Der Valk hotel - this hotel is not value for money.

short stay at Blijdorp Hotel

Check in was very efficient even with the normal fuss about having to register due to coming from England. Nice clean bedroom (would like liked a bigger soap................. it is very small. If you use a hand soap bar, bring your own) Very nice bed. General warmth of the hotel rooms was set quite high so it took awhile to get the room temperature down. Suggestion push it down to your needs as soon as you enter the room.

Hotel close to Rotterdam

The hotel was clean. However, they need to establish an onsite fitness room especially for business traveller like me. They should also get more irons for their guest. I asked for an iron and was told they will send it to my room. I waited for an hour and half and called reception again to check for iron. I was told they do not have an iron and they will get me an iron once one of the guest returns it. i did not get an iron that night. I was hoping when I return back to the next day there would be an iron waiting for me in my room. But nothing. The more bothersome thing was that no one from hotel staff left any message for me explaining what is gong on about my request for the iron.

Comfortable and friendly hotel

We came for carnival in the last weekend of August. The hotel looks much nicer in real life than it does in pictures - this was a pleasant surprise.

The room was clean and modern as was the bathroom.

There was a fridge which was handy and there were a few UK tv channels which was also good!

The staff were lovely and really helpful. Even the security were friendly and really funny.

We would definitely recommend this hotel!

Who wants to look inside?

Rooms were moderately clean. Duvet was lumpy. I had a room facing into the interior of the hotel which is a bit claustrophobic and has an internal window. If booking I would request a room looking out of the building.
The air conditioning also wasn't very strong.

My daughter and I stayed for one night during our 10 day trip to Europe. It was easy to find and in a nice area. The staff was the most pleasant of the hotels we stayed during our trip. I missed not having a pool with hot tub, but that seems to be the norm in europe.

Nice hotel but location could be better

The hotel is located away from city center and close to a highway junction which makes it very convenient for guests that have a car. For tourists who don't drive, there are three transit stops within 10 minutes walk that will get you almost anywhere in Rotterdam. With the help of a transit map, we were able to use Rotterdam's efficient transit system to explore the city. Be forewarned of early check-in. We arrived to the hotel around 11:00 AM and were told that there will be a $25 Euro early check-in charge should we wish to get a room immediately. We opted to wait in the lobby to use their free WiFi and within half any hour , we were assigned a room. The staff were very helpful in giving direction and pleasant to deal with. The location is quiet with a small park at the back.

Beautiful comfortable zoo hotel

This hotel is in the perfect location for a zoo visit and not far from the central station or the bar and restaurant area. The room is a great size and comfortable. The bed is large, comfortable with wonderful bedding the room also has black out curtains. Unfortunately the downfall for us was upon arrival various questionable hairs were in the bathroom in very obvious places leaving me to wonder how well it was cleaned. And one day when my husband and I had decided to sleep in a little due to jetlag there was VERY loud drilling being done in the next room at around 9am. The other downfall is the room service, unfortunately the items stated that are available after (I think it is) 10pm only around half are available (don't expect to be able to have any kind of meal)

Poor dining experience

Dining was a poor experience. Having eventually been shown to a table (not set) I was left waiting for 15 minutes before anyone returned with a menu. Was told that a free salad was available from the salad bar which, while well stocked, was swarming with flies. Decided to risk it but had to find my own cutlery. Main meal OK.
Breakfast the following morning was OK but staff did not come to greet you and to take your room number so I could have got away without paying for it.

Very nice looking from the outside, we drove in from the Hook of Holland and found the hotel really easily. Check in was fast and easy and we were asked if we wanted smoking or non-smoking, great if you're smokers like us.
We'd had a long journey so ordered room service, it was a very nice meal for a reasonable price and arrived in good time.
The bed was extremely comfortable with plenty of pillows and the room was well sound proofed. Shower was also good and easy to operate. All in all a very pleasant stay, I would stay again

Broken promises!!

We chose this hotel close to the airport for his supposed quality as well as for its mention of a free shuttle from/to Rotterdam Airport ... ie, \"MUCH MORE THAN A HOTEL, Our free shuttle will take you to and fetch you from Rotterdam-Airport in a timely manner. You will be carefree and rested when you go on holiday\"!
Alas, this information, which is on Expedia website and hotel website, are simply wrong!! The shuttles NEVER operate on Sunday, nor on early morning to catch the first flight, and furthermore, they are not freely available to all customers, because their use is not available to all rates!!!
Mention online and hotel attitude are simply inacceptable.

Beware of asking for a glass of water at the restaurant ! They charged €2.95 for a 300ml bottle of water. Other than that it was all okay. The service was very welcoming however there was an additional €3 asked at reception for each day for what they called tourist Tax!

Some off the staff don't no how to deal with customer!! And some was really nice! There charge us for one room twice because we ad just under 20 room I add a key went out only to fine some new person in my room when i was back and my bag downstairs and my next laptop bag in safe whitc i ad to wait till customer leave before i could get my bag then i was given a new room only to find other ppl in that room then got a next room only to be told in the morning we add to pay for that room so we ad to or get kick out then only to find out they charge our 2 group for the same room breakfast time was a next mission when we book it it say breakfast included but when we got there breakfast was not included so we sort it out with mananger so next day we all went down to have breakfast only to be told we need to get out or police will be call not a good look the was staff deal with the setueration!!!!

Adjacent to the zoo, bike paths, and close to downtown (but in a quiet park like area), this hotel had a perfect location. We stayed in multiple hotels across the several countries, and this was our favorite. Very business like, clean, tranquil; a home away from home.
