This place was so beautiful! Definitely an hacienda from a storybook. The one thing that was misleading was the included continental breakfast. I asked the front desk about this and showed them proof of what was being promoted and they stated that they would contact Expedia to figure this outs I never heard back but that was the only misleading feature about this gorgeous place!

We came with my personal car but if you don't have a vehicle you need a taxi or public transport in order to visit the town. The hotel is actually a colonial house, everything is original and beautiful except some really annoying details....

- There's absolutely no desk/table in rooms, if you need to work there's no way you can work efficiently it is just a bed, and a closet for make up but there's no way to work in the rooms...
- The room we stayed (room number #2), had only 2 plug sockets which is also inconvenient.
- There's no coffee maker in the rooms.
- They lack employees, the restaurant is only open in the morning and thursday, friday, saturday and sunday they open from 6pm to 10pm at night where you can finally drink some coffee.
Everything is low quality.... They use the cheapest soap the cheapest bed covers, towels... How can you give torn away towels to your guests?

I met the owner of the hotel but I was working so I didn't have chance to tell him these things but in any case he doesn't seem to be caring at all... And I also saw him treating bad to his employees...

If I cannot get room service or at least find some basic things like coffee, water.... What's the point of statying in a hotel? I could also stay in my car...

The hacienda is beautiful and historic. Antiques all around, quiet, peacocks roaming around and you get the feeling of being in the middle of a jungle. The soft music is pleasant, the workers are willing to help. Also there is a restaurant open for breakfast and on the weekends they open for dinner too. The only thing I wish they had beaters, it gets very cold in the room at night and all you have is more blankets. Other than that, it is a gem.

Perfect amount of rustic Mexican charm

Beautiful property. Has peacocks as well as old antique cars. Incredibly safe. The property is locked at night so make sure you know how to get back in if the gates are locked.

The grounds are gorgeous. It is hard to imagine such beautiful gardens in the middle of a city.

Free parking on site. We did not drive as the collectivos came by every 5 minutes to take us to Centro. We discovered parking downtown would have been next to impossible.

The room is rustic. Old time Mexican charm…just what we wanted. Potable drinking water in every room. It rained while we were there and it was cold. Unfortunately the hotel does not have ANY HEAT! They gave us extra blankets and the sleeping temperature was perfect…but with no heat you either wanted to be in bed under the covers or out walking or in a restaurant WITH heat!!

Would we stay here again? Yes! We loved it. The only issue was heat, and when San Cristobal is rarely COLD, they basically do not need it. But it certainly wouldn’t hurt to have a few space heaters.

Was assigned to room 8, room was freezing. Asked for a different room and changed me to 10 for a $200mx daily upcharge. I paid as long as it was warmer. Get to the room WiFi couldn’t reach there, shower was either extremely hot or cold. Bathroom had a smell coming out of the floor drain.

Loved the fireplace in the dining room. Excellant ambiance. Staff is very helpful and friendly. History of the property is very interesting, esp. that the hotel is about 200 yrs old.
Lot's of neat antiques. Clean. Hot showers. The rooms are cold as there are no heaters, but the cozy thick quilts made up for it.

This hotel is very unique and somewhat rustic. The property has some very interesting antiques that are hidden away waiting to be discovered. The room we had was very Mexican it is decoration. However, there is no heat in the room and it was chilly in the evenings in March. There was only 1 hard wooden chair that looked nice, but was tough to sit in to read. The Cocina (restaurant) was delightful. There is a fireplace that takes the chill off and the food is good. The staff at the Hotel are very helpful and friendly, although not much English is spoken. Overall we enjoyed our stay here very much

The staff went above and beyond for us and made us feel at home. Not only is the Hotel beautiful, peaceful and relaxing, but their food was exquisite! The best part of my stay, was when I went out for a walk & it suddenly started raining, as I was walking back to the hotel, one of the staffs ran up to me with an umbrella and walked me to my room. He then asked if I wanted to start the chimney so we can keep warm. 10/10 recommended

Our first choice when we booked our trip, the hotel is quaint, picturesque, and rustic. Beautiful settings everywhere you look in this \"hacienda\". Their majestic peacocks roam freely in the hotel, our stay was very pleasant, and extra with the staffs attention specially Nereo. His courtesies to our stay, and assisting us in organizing our trips were seamless. Our first time in Chiapas, we absolutely loved it.

We had a big room with two double beds. The furnace didn't work but it wasn't necessary anywaysince it was not cold. We could use the table and chairs in the terrace in front of the room.
The grounds are beautifully kept, the employees are very helpful. The hotel is a little far from the center of town (10 min taxi ride) but it's worth it to stay in this great place. The kids could play all over. The peacock is beautiful.

We just went for one night and that was enough. Free Internet means go to the lobby. It´s old and worn out. Haciendas are old places but that doesn´t mean to you need to stay in old and worn out room. Breakfast is not included and not worth to go for.

Beautiful but cold and noisy

The hotel is a beautiful almost museum like place with spacious grounds and peacocks. But the room was cold and no one offered to put a fire in the wood burning stove to warm it, the bathroom light is on a motion detector that kept turning off at very inconvenient times and there were very noisy neighbors who shouted a conversation all night.

Great stay in hacienda

Very nice concept - old hacienda made into a hotel outside of busy and packed San Cristobal center. Service was more than excellent - we could choose our room, offered extra blankets and towels, even given a welcome drink and fresh flowers in the room. Downside is the location (not much to explore on foot) and be prepared for cold practically at any time of the year (get extra blankets, use the fireplace, wait for the hot water in shower, etc.). Though it's very close to the highway that takes you further to Grutas de Rancho Nuevo, Comitán and other places outside of San Cristobal, for us it was a perfect location for the last night in San Cristobal, gardens are wonderful, all the hotel looks like centuries old and the great service is more than wonderful.

We would never recommend this hotel to anyone visiting San Cristobal. It was far away from the city center and was very definitely in an undesirable neighborhood. The walls were the least soundproof walls that we have encountered at any hotel and we have traveled extensively. It was a very disappointing experience.

The positive things: Hotel LOOKS beautiful from the outside yes, its all very antique and almost from another time. The have peacocks walking around, looks cool. That's about it.
The Negative thing: The have saints and crosses everywhere!! every single room & every single spot has some religious thing. Made me SUPER uncomfortable. The rooms are super cold. Hot water takes a long time to come in. Beds are hard. Food is mediocre. The peacocks are squawking at 7am in the morning. Sound travels a lot between the walls and halls so you hear EVERYTHING!
NOTHING for the kids to do.
Did not like at all. Never again!

One of the most expensive rooms on long trip from U.S. to Guatemala and back. Wish someone had warned us that the hotel was having a New Year's Eve party with fireworks and live band until 3:00 in the morning. We drove over 9 hours and had to get up early to drive 9 more the next day. Wanted a good night's sleep but did not get it. Beds were nearly as hard as concrete. The property is historic probably at least 200 years old. Lovely but lacking in comfort. It was cold and there is no source for heat in the room. Windows had gaps around the frames. Front desk solution was to give us an extra blanket. On the positive side, there was plenty of hot water for a shower. But the towels were stiff and rough. Bathroom amenities were very institutional. Bathroom shower stall was moldy. The loud music kept us awake until 3am.

A nice, old hacienda with lovely courtyards BUT we were very disappointed with the staff services and the noise level from the adjacent rooms was very bothersome. Additionally, we were asked to not park our car in their secure parking area the final three nights due to a special event which they were preparing for during that time; this caused an extra walking to the neighboring parking area during that time.

What a beautiful old hotel with spacious rooms and great grounds. The pictures on the site are quite accurate. It was perfectly clean and the helpfulness of the staff was perfect. The day clerk speaks perfect English and at night he works in the restaurant to that is helpful. I read some reviews that panned the location as being in an \"industrial\" area. This is not in the city center but on a main - but not really busy - street about a mile from the city center. We walked it in about 30 minutes, but the cabs are cheap and the really cheap mini-buses go by every 10 minutes or so. I would call the area commercial as there are many shops and restaurants in the area. However, the concept of zoning is not that well regarded in Mexico, so the reality is the neighborhood is much like other Mexican city neighborhoods - very mixed. It is a great hotel if you are driving as they have free parking on the grounds. There is a high wall that separates the hotel from the street and this really makes you feel like you are in another world. I loved the peacocks!

Beware Cheap Rates... Nice to Visit But Don't Stay

You can imagine my excitement when I found this hotel listed for only $40 USD accompanied by glowing reviews! I thought maybe the price was cheap because this hacienda was far enough from the city center that most people that don't want to go for a 3+ km hike before dinner will want to take a taxi to / from town. (You don't need to, however, as there are plenty of stores, restaurants and bars within walking distance... and because the hotel is not in the city center, the experience feels more authentic as there were few tourists.)

That said, although the grounds are beautiful / very interesting and the hotel staff were friendly (note only one spoke English), I mostly judge a hotel by the comfort of the rooms... and primarily whether I can sleep at night! My main complaint is this hotel is REALLY cold at night and although there are fireplaces in the rooms, they don't work. (The hotel staff did provide me with a small heater but it took forever to heat up the room and it was still too cold.) Also, I was a annoyed that the restaurant staff tried to charge me for breakfast even though it was supposedly included. Rather than pay I complained at the front desk, at which point I was given a breakfast ticket (why not give it to me at check-in)? Worse, after all the hassle, all I got for \"free\" was coffee, juice, a small plate of fruit and lots of dry cake... everything else - including eggs, sausage and the milk for my coffee - cost extra!

Mind blowing!

This hotel transports you to the past. This hacienda offers beautiful clean and comfy rooms and the staff is incredibly friendly and always willing to go beyond their normal duties. Although not located in the City's center, the taxi costs $2.50 and takes 10 min to take you there. Worth the cost! You'll sleep and rest unlike staying center (bunch of bars and noisy plazas).

Great place to get away.

We were there to attend a wedding and the staff was very helpful. I must say the resturant (Monica) and desk (Mauricio) staff were the friendliest I have seen in quite a while. They went out of their way to make our eating and room experience a pleasure. I especially enjoyed the fireplace in the room and resturant. Our friends involved many English speaking persons and the staff put forth extra effort to accomodate them. Taxis were plentiful. The gardens were beautiful including the 2 peacocks. Definately will go back.

Great Hotel and close to the city center.

I had a great experience at this hotel. The staff was so wonderful and accommodating. The staff helped me figure out my trip and recommended which sites to see. One of the nights I was not able to make one of the tours. The hotel offered me and my friends a private tour to various places and then they would drop us off at the airport. The price was a little high for us so the hotel attendant made a call and got us a cheaper rate with another company. That showed so much integrity on his behalf and the hotel. He booked us with another company which was not affiliated with the hotel offered tours. I would definitely go back and stay at this hotel.

Gorgeous mexican style hotel with amazing service!

This was a gorgeous Mexican Style hotel, so full of details! The food in its restaurant is delicious and the service is outstanding. I got a cold and throat infection, and the manager went out of his way, took me to the doctor, waited for me, brought me back, and everybody was very accomodating. I definitely recommend this hotel!!! Bring sweaters because San Cristobal gets cold and humid!

The staff was so nice and concerned about our comfort. I was sick one day and they were checking on me to see if I needed anything. The next day everyone greeting me and asked if I was feeling better. The room was colorful and quiet. We paid an extra $30 pesos for firewood and it was well worth it. Pictures don't make justice to the beautiful place

The owner is there checking the wellbeing of the guests, the people is very nice, the place is beautiful, gardens and mexican details, everywhere, the rooms are beautifully decorated like hacienda style but the real thing, it was great to stay there and you can take the bus to town for 1 dollar or a taxi for 25 pesos, never more, great place to stay. Fresh coffee and bread every morning for free. And you are welcomed with a taste of a liquor made by Don Juan every day, a liter a day only.

Cold and far from the city center

Although the place looks very beautifull and very romantic, we had a several issue regarding the room. 1) The room was not clean, there were hair balls on the floor and the shower floor was not clean. 2) When we arrive to the hotel we asked to start the heat and we were told that the heat could not be started due to fire safty problem, but on our third night when we told the reception guy we can't stay in those frizing conditions he started the heat and asked for extra charge for it. 3) On out second night there were no hot water in the shower. When we complained they didn't believed us and told us we had to wait until the hot water wil arrive from the boiler. After 10 minutes they called us back and told us that the hot water were finished and that we need to wait until they will warm up again. 4) The hotel located 10 minutes ride from the city center and the taxi drivers charge us 25-35 Pesos for each ride.

Nice staff, good location if you are planning to visit nearby places of San Cristobal, like zincantan, san juan chamula, comitán, etc. It is about 3 to 4 miles from downtown. If you have your own transportation is worth it since downtown is a crowded place with busy streets a little parking sopts. So you move freely. Traffic in Chiapas is friendly though.

The hotel is nice and clean , no A/C the weather cool at night, it has a wood burning heater if get to cold, about 10 minutes from downtown on a taxi

Nice Hotel but outside the main activity center (+ 5 miles). Ok if you have transportation. Positive for families that are looking for a quick place. Very nice people, clean, nice rooms and positive services.

Awesome Hotel!!!

This hotel is just awesome, excellent customer service. The rooms are really nice super different it is like an Hacienda. I recommend this Hotel 100%. We stayed there while in our stay at San Cristobal de las casas. The main part of San Cristobal is called \"El corredor\" this is where all the restaurants are and the stores (where all the people meet) and we used to take a Taxi Cab from the Hotel to El COrredor and they will charged us only like 30 pesos or 3 dlls. Awesome Hotel.

COLONIAL HIDE-AWAY OUTSIDE OF TOWN

[...]This hotel is NOT in the historic center of San Cristobal de las Casas but outside and beyond walking distance. To enjoy time in the city center, you have to drive and fight for a public parking space or pay for a taxi ride. We did the latter to reduce stress.

Frequent traveller especially in Mexico!

OK if you have a car

The staff were very pleasant but the restaurant was closed and it is located a mile from the center of town. Only 25 or 30 pesos but too far to walk. Fine if you have a car and there is offstreet packing. The rooms and garden were pleasant. The fires in the room were a nice touch. We were able to have breakfast at a simple cafe nextdoor. There was no overnight staff cover. When we wanted to make restaurant or activity reservations we could use the hotel phone or computer but there was no concierge to speak of. This would be difficult for someone who could not speak Spanish.

no me dieron el desayuno argumentando que no lo seleccione y me cobraron el total de la receta en la propiedad sin descontar lo que ya había pagado, argumentan que me lo devolverían pero después de una semana no regresa, las recámaras son muy frías y no permiten prender la chinenea
