I was really looking forward to staying here, after looking at the pictures. Unfortunately it didn't live up to expectations.
The location was good, the courtyard setting was beautiful and the room was nice but the noise really spoiled our stay.
We paid extra for a bigger room but it was directly next to the pool meaning that we had constant noise from the pool filter and people in the pool. The rooms are all based around the courtyard which means noise all day and night. There was constant noise with people in the pool after hours, sat in the courtyard talking loudly and I was even woken up at 3am by staff talking in the courtyard.
It's a beautiful setting but, if you value your sleep, I wouldn't recommend this hotel.

The property was clean, had a small boutique feeling. Really pretty with flowers, Spanish tile and colonial feel. However, there was no coffee in the rooms. The restaurant charges for every refill and did not tell us. They double charged us, watch your bill.

This was the worst hotel experience in my decade years of travel. My first night was absolutely horrid because the bed and sheets had bed bugs. I didn't realize until the middle of the night when I woke up full of bites--my entire body itching nonstop. The next day, my friend and I were moved to a different room. I asked if I would be compensated and then front desk attendant said we would definitely be given a credit towards the breakfast or transportation to the airport. Well, at checkout, a new attendant said the owner would not be given me any type of compensation or credit. When I asked to speak to her, the older lady was very rude and kept giving me excuses that she was losing money because she had to throw away the bed and sheets. I was like that's not my fault, I had a terrible night. But she did not care. I told her I never leave negative reviews, but that she was forcing me have to do it, and she said she didn't care. Very unpleasant customer service.

Lovely hotel with great Mexican style architecture, furnishings, plants etc. Very clean. The owner was very helpful and talked a lot with my wife and myself. Small heated pool is a bonus especially in winter. This hotel is on a quiet street that is about 5 minutes walk from the main square and cathedral. 5 minutes walk to pedestrianised streets with a good variety of shops and restaurants. I would stay here again.

The property is very clean and beautiful. The only thing that was a bit of a nuisance was how everyone that was at the pool was very noisy. We called the desk and they did not handle the situation. For two nights the echo of the guest by the pool was happening until 1 am which did not allow for us to have a comfortable night of rest. Parking was also an inconvenience.

The pool area and the garden was beautiful. The service was excellent. It was walking distance to the downtown area and an easy walk to restaurants. The nice thing is they have an on-site restaurant if you need to catch some coffee and breakfast before heading out for a tour.

The hotel was beautiful, clean, friendly staff, great price, the pool was heated, we had an amazing time in town. The only thing that could’ve been better at the hotel is that they did not have heating in the room and it was very very cold. They gave us extra blankets And that was OK, but a small portable heater would’ve been perfect.

My husband and I stayed for 7 nights and it was not only an amazing room/location (very clean) but also an amazing service since my husband got a little sick from a side trip and the hotel owner Flor cooked him rice (twice!!) to make him feel better. It would’ve been very helpful to know that the kitchen is close and they don’t serve breakfast as advertised or that the wifi is almost non existent in the rooms, you would need to be as close as possible to the reception in order to get wifi. The property is beautiful and close to the City center. The place is very clean. We chose the hotel because it has a small swimming pool our children could use in the afternoons. Unfortunately on the first day we arrived we noticed the owner chastising one of her employees. On our second day we had a late breakfast in the restaurant. We also ordered two beers at around 1 pm. She said we could drink them on the patio because they needed to clean the restaurant. She then came out and told us we had to hide the beers under the table because of the health inspectors and that it was a family place and we couldn’t drink bottles and bottles of wine. After I explained to her that her words were upsetting and we were on a family trip and that she had been the one to sell us the beer she changed her story. There is also a mass held every morning and some evenings in a room right by the Pool. After the weird interaction we just avoided her but it made the rest of our stay uncomfortable. I think the pandemic must have been hard on her with the restrictions or something. In general it was an uncomfortable experience all around and we wouldn’t stay there again with or without a pool.

My daughter and I stayed for two weeks. The family run hotel is warm and helps with anything you need. The shower wasn't working right and the own came and fixed it himself, with a smile. Very friendly atmosphere, delicious coffee and a garden you have to see to believe. It was truly a delight to stay here. Near to the center, but a couple blocks away so not so busy. We will be back!

This hotel is a gem. Family run and near to everything. The pool in a central location is rare, warm and wonderful. As is the gorgeous garden courtyard and pool patio. Very clean and helpful, delicious breakfast cafe. Views from 3rd level are the best and a bit more quiet. First floor was quiet as well, i think due to covid there were not many guests. travel agent on site which is convenient. I'll always return here.

The beds were rock hard and the restaurant was very slow. It took 45 minutes to make eggs and there was only one other table. The pool was nice and warm despite the cold air. The double rooms were very small, barely enough room to walk around the two beds. The towels were also very scratchy and old.

The hotel had its charms but the service was mediocre at best. While they did offer to refrigerate some food for us ( no refrigerator in rooms), they did charge me again for my reservation even though I had prepaid (they later reversed the charge but only after I spent time showing them I had prepaid) and, even worse, they refused to help us make a restaurant reservation since they have their own restaurant. I have travelled all over the world and NEVER received that response !
As to the rooms, they were clean and beds were fine, but they were very noisy, and the bathrooms were claustrophobic. Also, the towels were rough like sandpaper.
Finally, the hotel is located about a 10 minute walk from town center. This may make it quieter - but we didn't think so - but it makes it less convenient.

We had a great stay the hotel was 6 blocks 1000 steps from the front of the catheral.The staff was very helpful Luis was the only one fluent in English and he was a great help,but the staff had all kinds of translation aids and were very helpful with everything from suggestions for tours to arranging transportation .I have been traveling Mexico on and off for 60 years and Casa Mama was great for it's staff and the atmosphere it creates for the true flavor of Mexico.

Very cute hotel in walking distance of everything in San Cristobal. Very friendly and accommodating staff - I was ill while there and they were sweet in enquiring about me. We would only recommend that you don't book tours with the hotel but rather with the travel agencies, as the hotel (like all others in town) takes a margin.

The room was clean, the hotel was cute. We were eaten alive all night, we both felt very itchy, we had bites all over our legs and arms. We do not know exactly what it was, but be warned... We took all of our clothes, clean ones included straight to the laundry, we had our own pillows and I also put those in the hot dryer.... The parking lot was about 1.5 miles away, we had to walk late at night back to the hotel. They lock the front door and you have to wait for them to come open it. It was safe for us that night, but it was a little scary, I’m not going to lie. The food at the hotel is very expensive.

I like the hotel. It was located a few blocks away from main downtown. It was clean and charming. The only inconvenience was that even though we stayed in a suite we had to pay extra for a third person which never happen to us before. It was weird that when we asked for extra towels and bathroom floor liners because bathtub liked we had to give them the old ones right on the spot and we requested an extra cover and they took it the next day even though we stayed 3 nights. Also did not have small towels and parking was about 3 blocks away.

The building itself is beautiful and surrounds a flowery courtyard with a small heated pool, rooms comfortable and clean. Unless other guests are noisy it's a very quiet place to stay. Would definitely return.

Disappointing
Wish we could be more positive in our review but the stay started off with disappointment of the hotel over-booking and not honoring our prepaid reservation for a King Suite. They put us in a much smaller standard room with a King bed. Our request for a refund started out with an offer of 5 free breakfasts, which was far short of the difference but eventually after some discussion, the hotel did make an appropriate refund.

Very beautiful and comfortable Hotel
We spent 3 days in San Cristobal, the facilities, cleanness and comfort was amazing. The Hotel is pretty well located, main activities are close by a short walk.

Very, very disappointed in our stay at La Casa de Mama. It was no Mama's home what-so-ever! Everything went downhill as soon as I checked in. The woman at the reception was very rude when I explained that I had paid for a room with two beds on Orbitz. She said that they had no more rooms with two beds and that if I wanted one then I would have to pay her extra. I explained that my reservation - which was already paid for was for a room with 2 beds. She shrugged her shoulders and said that I could cancel my reservation. After much back and forth, she finally budged and took us to a room with two beds, one full and one twin. Which is not what I paid for but at this point I was fine with it. After this experience, the hotel staff was NOT friendly or very helpful.
Also, the location is poor as it is not close to the center of town, its a good 15-20 min walk with limited nearby options to eat. Additionally, the room had poor amenities- NO ac/heat, NO daily cleaning (just beds made), stained towels, etc. The internet was very, very slow during our entire stay.
There are better options, with better service and closer to everything. Will definitely never be coming back to this hotel. Beware!

San Cristobal was a great place to stay for shopping, sightseeing, bars and restaurants. Great Saturday. Market and good sightseeing. Note that the evenings are very cool in San Crustobel and we were grateful for a room heater.

Good spot for your stay in San Cristobal. The staff is very courteous and accommodating and the hotel is clean. The hotel is close to everything so you don't need to walk far. My only complaints were that the hotel does not have heat, though, and it can get pretty chilly at night and the shower wasn't the greatest. But overall very good and would stay there again

A lovely home away from home.
The moment that my husband and I arrived at La Casa de Mamá, we felt as if we were visiting the Mexican home of relatives or friends. Everyone at the front desk and the owner made us feel most welcome. The charming courtyard with bright colored flowers and the bright sun was and indication that we have found the right place to relax and enjoy our first vacation in San Cristobal.

Great place and close to the center of town. We enjoyed the suite except we were cold at night and the little space heater was not sufficient. The heated pool was a nice extra and the service was fine.

The hotel is beautiful, but the pool is just bait and switch. Forget the pool! The place has beautiful landscaping, the room meets most basic needs, but there is NO HEAT, NO FAN and no AC. When it rains nothing drys out. The bed is tradtional...that would be FIRM. IT IS ABOUT 3 BLOCKS FROM THE CENTER OF TOWN.

Charming hotel, great staff
I had a room on the top floor with a view of the hotel's gardens below and mountains in the distance. The room was well furnished and the tiled bathroom shows off the artistry of the region. The carpet is a bit musty but after a while the smell wasn't noticeable. It was wonderful to watch the mists settle on the mountains at dusk. The hotel is within a 10 min walk to the centre of town and what an interesting town! The staff were all helpful and courteous. I can't fault this place one bit.
