I stayed at Hotel Downtown Kraków during a recent trip and overall had a good stay, especially considering it’s a budget hotel.

The room was clean and comfortable, though slightly smaller than expected. A wardrobe by the entrance makes the space feel tighter, but it wasn’t a major issue. The bed was comfortable, although the pillows could be a little fluffier. The room also had a kettle for tea/coffee and both radiators and air conditioning which helped keep it warm during the winter months. The only real issue in the room was that the TV didn’t appear to work.

The bathroom was clean but the shower temperature was temperamental and difficult to set to a comfortable warm level.

Staff interaction was limited but the staff I did encounter were friendly enough.

The location is one of the hotel’s biggest strengths. It’s less than 10 minutes from Kraków Główny railway station and Galeria Krakowska, around 15–20 minutes to the Main Market Square, and about 30 minutes to Wawel Castle and the Jewish Quarter. The hotel is tucked away on a quiet street, although you can hear trains passing nearby.

If small issues like the shower, TV and pillows were improved, this could easily be a very strong 4-star budget option in Kraków.

Next to the train tracks so you hear the trains going by. As well as hearing neighbours talking, showering etc. Rooms - Very outdated, super small, with no storage space. Cruise ships have more space than those hotel rooms. Wouldn’t recommend it.

I would recommend this hotel and i will stay there again. It is clean, the staff is very accommodating and the location is excellent. Four to five minute walk to the train station, the bus station, and a grocery store. It is a few minute walk to Planty park and the St. Florian gate to the old town. I would also note that the breakfast is great and plentiful.

Unassuming frontage in a cul-de-sac, but very close to the Old Town & plenty of shops, cafes, restaurants.
Comfortable room with air-conditioning, good sound-proof double-glazing despite the train line running right outside the window.
Helpful staff recommended cafes etc & advice about tram train & bus services including airport transfer.

Checked in very late and departed very early but this hotel was very conveniently located, comfortable and clean. Took me 7 min to get from train station to hotel via uber. Checked in and filled out a half page form before being assigned room. Room was big enough with a sanitized toilet. My only dissatisfaction with the hotel was it was very close to a train station so come 5:30 you can hear/feel the trains roll in. I would stay again if I was on krakow.

The hotel is well p[laced in relation to sight-seeing and travel. However, it is built right next to a railway track. When trains come past the reverberation is felt in the hotel. At night, not many trains and er plugs provided as they are needed. For a light sleeper not a good location.

Ask what room you'll be staying in

Be advised this hotel is right next to the train tracks, and the trains run all night. You may want to ask for a room that is away from the tracks, but I don't know if that will help. The room literally shook when the trains went by and I couldn't be moved to another room. The bed was small and very close to the floor. The pillows were unconfortable. You will only get soap dispensers for the sink and shower, no bars of soap or shampoo. This staff was nice and helpful. The breakfast was good and there were plenty of choices. It's also very close to the train station, obviously. Would not recommend due to location.

Evening clerks not very courteous and didn't want to be bothered with questions. Your right next to train tracks which keep you up all night. Located in run down area with no parking and littered with trash. Mattress were very uncomfortable. Give some credit to the morning staff which was helpful and the breakfast was good even though not put out on time. Overall, I would not recommend this hotel due to location by train station

Pleasant 3 star hotel - clean & comfortable rooms

We were satisfied with our stay at Alexander 11 hotel. Our room was a little on the smallish side, but perfectly adequate for our needs. The bathroom was small, but very clean. Inadequate room for toiletry bags or clothes to be hung. Wi-Fi was quick and reliable. TV small, but offered some English language channels. Air conditioning was excellent in the heat of summer. Ice water was available on the landing; tea and coffee in rooms. No safe in room for valuables. Hotel was well maintained inside and façade. Other buildings nearby were a little dingy but we always felt perfectly safe. Small convenience stores abut 50metres. Large shopping mall about 500metres. Breakfast offered good range of hot and cold food. Staff courteous. Ask for room away from rail-line in you don't like muffled sound of trains - they did not bother us. Also, if you do not like small lifts, ask for lower floor so you can take stairs; there are 4 floors altogether.

Bargain of bargains!

We paid about 35 pounds for triple - myself, wife and son - and this included breakfast! A stones throw from the main railway station and 10 mins walk from Old Town. Location fantastic. This was for us an absolute bargain, and wouldn't hesitate to use again or recommend. You do get some noise from the trains, but it didn't bother us.....

A Polish Wedding

This hotel is very small and charming. It is so close to the Old Market area which is a very big plus. There were a few concerns though. First, it sits right on the train track and it is very noisy as well as it shakes your room. Second, the young man at the reception desk did not speak English and made it difficult to check in to the hotel. Lastly, the hotel only provides one key for the room which caused a lot of problems for us.

This a charming, old-style European hotel you would expect to find in the old movies. However, it is completely updated. Our room had two twin beds with duvet blankets, a stocked fridge, a water cooler outside the door with hot and cold, in room instant tea and coffee. The room price included a daily breakfast buffet which was very traditional European as well. It had a great selection of foods from dry cereals and milk to marinated eggs, sliced meats and cheeses, salads, Polish poppy seed roll, various breads, juices, fruits, etc. Advantages: Adjacent to the city park, and convenient to Old Town, train station and the central mall. Disadvantages: Old part of town with lots of graffiti, the ramble and noise of the trains. Great value for the money!

We never allow the odd train or 2 passing by to bother us. We will be returning - if you get the chance go for one of the upgraded rooms with towel bathrobes and that extra touch of comfort.

One night in Krakow

Recetion was excellent. Breakfast served, was wonderful. A lavish assortment of cerals, fruits, bread, cakes, cheese, and meats.
The bathroom was very clean. I would recommend this place highly. Directions from the train station should be included in the description. But it was very close to the station and old town.

Tired Hotel too near railway and train noise

The hotel was more difficult to walk to from the train station as there were no easy routes and a number of stairs. Those with bad backs, avoid this venue. Staff pleasant and able to answer all questions and queries. No facilities like bar or restaurant, apart from breakfast. Mini bar in room with water, sodas and sweets but no alcoholic drinks, which was ok for me. Poor quality breakfast. At the end of the stay asked to pay for the bill in local currency. We totalled the figure and then with no agreement they charged me in GBP at the very poor rate which I did not notice until later. I contacted the hotel the same day to ask them to correct it. They asked for it in writing, which I have done, no reply or acknowledgement yet or correction This is an all too common practise, I am told. So with regret I would not recommend this hotel for a number of the reason I have suggested. I request expedia to make some investigation on my behalf.

Great Hotel And Super Close To Train Station

This hotel is awesome. They can set you up with tour to all the big places. They recommended a fantastic restaurant for us. The hotel is pretty much a 7min walk from the train/bus station. The mall is literally right across the road. It is also really close to the main square which has a great assortment of restaurants. I will be going back here soon.

Like trains?

Small, nice hotel located at the end of the street. Close (4 minutes), to the train station, a 20 minute walk to the Castle and 7 minutes to the Old City Square. Pleasant staff and a good breakfast. BUT, we were on an outside room and, the main train station tracks were outside the window. Even being on the fourth (fifth) floor, the noise from the trains coming and going all night allowed for a fitful sleep, AT BEST! Perhaps this is a fallout of booking with Hotels.com, you get the noisy room? I hope not.

Rumbling train and waterproof underlay

Hotel very convenient to old town and shopping, but whole room trembles with train rolling past waking you at night - but not too many thankfully.
Only problem was a terry towelling waterproof underlay under bottom sheet - you woke up sweating, I had to halve my duvet to sleep between otherwise I wouldn't have lasted another night! This was in twin room, not sure if bigger beds have this problem too.

My stay at this hotel was pleasant. The size of the room was adequate, although my father was staying in another room which was very small. The rooms were very clean and the staff were helpful. The main problem with this hotel is that it sits right next to the railway tracks and during the day there are trains going by every 2 minutes or so, I could actually feel the vibrations in the room. This wasn't much of a problem for me since most of the night there are no trains and I'm not a light sleeper, but this could be an issue for some people.

I really enjoyed my stay here with friends. Everything was really clean, the breakfast was great and the location superb. The hotel staff was really great in helping us with trips to Auschwitz and the salt mines. People had written reviews saying the hotel was noisy from the train but it didn't bother me at all. It was literally right outside the window but it was not bad. It may be because I am a heavy sleeper but to me it was fine and didn't bother anyone too much in our room.

Next to train station and next to old town.

This is a very nice little hotel that is just around the block from the train station. Yes you will hear the trains as they roll by the building. It overlooks the tracks. But there are not that many late night trains running. It is really close to the start of the old town area and is right behind tram lines. The reception clerks are all very helpful and you can arrange tours to the salt mines and to Auschwitz with a pick up from the hotel. Very nice stay and the price was excellent for how close you are to the old town. 3 minute walk and you are there. There is also a large shopping mall if you want to do some shopping.

The service from reception was fantastic, nothing was too much trouble. They phoned on my behalf to confirm trips, and looked up bus and tram times for me. Value for money hotel close to major sights/shops

I had a relaxing time during my stay in the hotel. Due to the proximity of the hotel and with my travel itinerary, I took my time in going out of my room as my objective is a relaxing travel and not a hurried one. I did not even encounter problems from the reservation staff to the housekeeping and the staff responsible for breakfast. All were very helpful and courteous. The downside though was there were railway tracks located at the back of the hotel. I have read this from past reviews. In my case, I also heard the trains coming and going but was still able to sleep comfortably at night. Given that guests have different criteria for staying at a hotel, I would say that with my stay at Hotel Alexander II is very good in general.

Handy location, clean hotel

Alexander II is a hotel that will meet any travellers basic needs. The hotel appears to be new or newly refurbished and as such the rooms and bathrooms were immaculate. There was air conditioning and a hairdryer was provided and the bed was adequate. Tea/ Coffee were provided but there was no kettle!? The hotel was generally quiet except for the tram/train that ran past our room well into the early hours of the morning.Some of the reception staff were a little cold but became friendlier the more they saw us. However, they were always very helpful; arranging tours and providing us with extra towels. Breakfast provided a good variety of food in a clean setting. The hotel is well within walking distance of the town centre and the local shopping centre is just around the corner. there are many restaurants and off- licence type places nearby and transport links are ideal with the tram running nearby.

Staff was great. Room was small but comfortable. Bathroom was one of the better ones I have experienced. Only problem was some outside maintenance started at 645am! And trains do go by but no whistles, just the loud clacking of the tracks. Breakfast was very good with enough good choices. I really enjoyed the fresh cut pineapple. Hotel is VERY close to the train and bus stations, a HUGE mall, and one block from local trams and buses.

Overall everything was fine.Except that my room on the ground floor was next to the train station and every time the train passed you thought that there was an earthquake.Other than the noise of the train ,everything else was nice.The employees were friendly and helpful,the buffet breakfast was nice .Also the size of the room was nice.

Found this hotel clean and comfortable. Breakfast quite good. Location to both main station and old part of Krakow really good. Staff very helpful. We wanted an each pillow and towels, these were delivered to room within minutes. Room was quite small but was very clean. The hotel is next to the railway line, could hear and occasionally feel trains go by but it really didn't bother us.

We liked the Alexander II. Our downside was that we were in room 15 and just outside the window was a constant engine noise from what we think is probably the air conditioning unit for the building. However, it was completely consistent and we didn't notice it much after awhile. We were also on the train track side, and there must be 20 trains through each night. Once again, we didn't hear them after a couple of days, but it's just something to think about. The hotel is about a pleasant 10 minute walk to the Market Square. There is a 7/11 style store on the corner where you can also buy tram tickets. The breakfast was varied and quite good. We would return to the Alexander II but request a room away from the train tracks.

I lost an ear ring there and they said they would let me know if they found it ( it must be there somewhere) but I have heard nothing.No kettle in the rooms and ' hot water' at brakfast was not hot.Man called Piere on reception was very helpful

excellent in its class

Not a luxury hotel, obviously, but it is a great little hotel in a good location, well priced. Clean rooms, good service, very good breakfast included. i would stay there again.

Good Location!!

Excellent location, very close to all must see/go sights. Room was cleaned with free wi-fi and breakfast was good.
Suggestion: A sign to be put up on the hotel hallway for inconsiderate guest who likes to slam the door or party in the hallway back to their room from midnight to early morning.
