lthough the front of the hotel in late January looked uninspiring (mainly 70s building with wisteria growing on it), the bar area and lounge were much nicer than we thought. Staff very friendly, and as we had booked for a murder mystery event on the Saturday followed by my wife's birthday on the Sunday, we were given clear instructions about the use of the hotel faciliies, where the murder mystery event would take place / timings and it was a lovely welcome to an upgraded room, complete with small bottle of wine, balloon flowers on the bed and a birthday card from the hotel to make the experience unforgettable.

There were a couple of minor issues with the room, which the manager dealt with in a professional manner and left us with the assurance that these would be addressed.

Meals and food were very good value, although the breakfast is rather basic (as other reviewers have said). We are both coeliacs, and staff appeared confident when recommending what was suitable for us and guiding us to a hassle free gluten free dining experience. Only slight disappointment was the lack of any gluten free bread for soup or breakfast.

The staff were lovely. the room was ok, was offered a family room with seperate bedroom which was great for the kids, aswell as a lovely surprise of a large selection box on their beds for christmas. (I didnt get one though :( )
Suggestions:
I would suggest maybe a small fridge in the rooms.
The changing rooms in the Pool area were freezing.
Maybe a continental choice for breakfast as there was only fried or cereal, no ham/cheese/croissants etc and for a high end hotel it was rather poor for breakfast.
The lights on the road and signage was not very clear, maybe a large, lit sign as late at night on a country road it was very hard to see the entrance.

The Overall experience was good though over Christmas.

We came to visit Chester and the Hotel Manager- didn’t catch his name sorry but he welcomed us with warmth and made our stay special, checking with us whether everything was alright with our stay, he had some veggie sausages especially made for us for breakfast,

The place is very convenient if you are visiting Chester, short drive into the city. We did the City Walls as suggested by the Manager, which covered pretty much the city followed by beautiful scenery.

The room windows overlooked a stairwell with rubbish at the bottom of it. The curtains were threaded and mouldy stains on and wouldn’t close properly as not on runners properly. We were phoned the day before to be told as they had a function on we couldn’t dine in the hotel that night. We travelled with our 10 year old son and went there at 8pm to go to our family room. We found out it was directly above the functions and when we phoned about this to reception due to loud noise from disco told would finish around 10pm. It didn’t finish at 10 and we were not able to get to sleep until nearly 12. The rooms are basic and furniture is outdated and very worn.

Photos are misleading. The main entrance looks like a 1970 council building, tired, old and dirty. Over night a large concreate mound appear.
Rooms were tired with very cheap Dunlem fixtures. No glasses in the room, but this is likely to be a safety issue. Room was fair too warm. Opening the window wasn't an option as the noise coming from the car park was loud until 430 in the morning. The car parking lighting was on until 5AM so our bedroom was lit until then and the cheap and nasty black up curtains where not fit for purpose. The bathroom fan would not turn off, solution found for this.

I made a massive mistake booking this hotel at £120 per night, it was worth a £10 and I would have enjoyed sleeping in my car. The noise from the other rooms was off the hook and I had the waste night sleep in over 10 years. It is easier to sleep on a Ryanair flight to Benidom stag weekend.

The restaurant was close due to a wedding and there were a number of Christmas parties taking place. To be fair I did receive a phone call the day before advising me of this and upon arrival. Check in took 20 mins as the staff had to deal with a number of room booking issues. I wish now that they had turned me away so I could rebooked someone else.

The only positive feedback was the staff who were great and all deserve to work in a better hotel. How they do this day in day out I have no idea. The owners need to look after their people and try new revenue schemes.

Booked for 2 nights as local to Chester zoo & outside of city centre. Travelling alone with young child. The corridor to our room distinctly smelt of cannabis clearly coming from one of the rooms, I did not raise this as felt this was strong enough for the hotel staff to recognise themselves. We had our evening meal on 1st night in the restaurant, the food was not great for the price, and had to move as we were initially seated under a dripping conservatory overhead window. The bar area next to the restaurant was loud and felt rough. I did not feel safe in this environment with my child. We went back to our room but did not sleep due to paper thin walls and the noise being unbearable due to drunken rumblings, banging and music from the room above and a child screaming throughout the night from the same room, understandably. Additionally the mattress had a hole in it the size of a small football. At 6am I raised my concerns with staff and were given a different room for night 2. We had ordered room service for breakfast, this never arrived. We were subsequently offered a complimentary breakfast for the 2nd morning however due to our unsettling experience in the restaurant for our evening meal on the first night I did not wish to put my child in that same environment again and checked out at the earliest opportunity. During our stay it was made known to me that this hotel is a halfway house for local council waiting list and is widely known locally for this. Awful experience.

The whole hotel is in really poor condition. The room was tired and not very clean. Everything is poorly maintained and fusty smelling. The pool had some sort of plastic floor and the water was a weird green colour. The changing room floor is slimy and unclean. Didn't try the food - given the general vibe we thought it safer to eat in town. Generally it just all felt very shabby and not worth the price. Would not recommend and will not be back.

Booked this hotel as we were visiting chester zoo. We chose it as it had a pool & would be ideal as we have kids. The hotel phoned 10 mins after booking the room and we asked would we have full use of the pool when we got there. So we arrived to be told the pool was out of use for today even though we had a phone call 90 mins before telling us we had full use. The hotel looked clean but had a smell like and older persons house and the decor was still in the 1940s. We had a rubbish nights sleep as some kind of commotion was going on in the room next to us. We got the vibe this place put people up that had been evicted and had nowhere else to stay. The guy must have left the room a million times during the night and everytime the door slammed shut the full room shook and with the bed attatched to the connecting wall to his door the full bed shook like a bomb had gone off. Would not reccomend staying here as it would be cheaper and would probably get a better nights kip sleeping in your car. Breakfast wasnt worth the money also

Stayed here for 2 nights. We had room 8. Very large, spacious room. Some updating could be done, however, everything did the job. Pool was good size and had a small area for toddlers. Only complaint we had was the room was very hot. We stayed during the heatwave, so expected warm weather, but the only opening window was in the bathroom, and upon arrival the towel heater in the bathroom was switched on. If traveling with toddlers please check this, because it is extremely hot and can be a burn risk for little hands. Overall, would stay here again.

ROOMS IN MUCH NEED OF UPDATING

Friendly, helpful staff but don't seem to have many. First room we were given (Rm 14), the springs of the mattress were visible under the duvet!! Told the guy on Reception we wanted another room. Mattress was rock hard but no springs (Rm 70). No side lights or table lamps in this room. Shower was great. Quite large walk in shower & rainbiw shower. Tea, coffee, kettle in room. Very basic decor and very basic room. Evening meal was delicious and breakfast was full English, toast, cereals and fruit. Again, very nice. Just a shame about the rooms.

Stayed after a night at the races just to sleep basically.
Hotel feels like it needs modernising; room although big was very dated with its furnishings and amenities.
It was very hot that day and the aircon was non existent.
I also forgot my shampoo and there wasn’t any provided that a lot of hotels do and the toilet had a very old fashioned handle that needed attention when it fell off!
Other than that it was an ok bolthole to stay!

Staff very friendly and helpful. Double bed very comfy, single bed far too soft for an adult, fine for a small child.

Rooms would benefit from a deep clean. The building is looking tired (visible bubbling on the walls, discoloured plug holes, tatty bed bases) and needs refreshing.

For a spa day I would be disappointed, for a base to explore the area it was fine. The pool was a key factor in choosing this hotel.

Last minute stop and photos don’t match the reality, staff were pleasant and evening meal and breakfast were ok.

Corby trouser press from the 1970’s is an indication of the time warp this hotel is in.

Fire alarm sounded at 2:30am nobody explained what was going on.

Over charged by £19 for my evening meal which I luckily saw on the bill and have removed.

Use Hotels every week and this was not what I experience as a norm.

The outside of the hotel looked dated, the inside had a moldy stale smell. We were put in room 7. It was a large twin room. The floor boards creaked and the interior was incredibly dated. Although the water was hot, The cold tap only dibbled and so it took
Forever for the bath to cool. The view was over the staff quarters and so we had to keep the curtains closed. The gym was very dated, rusty machines, most were broken, and very dirty. They were not safe to use. The Jacuzzi was broken and the swimming pool was freezing. It was not safe to use, and even when I aired my concerns, it was shunned away!! The hotel needs to be cleaned, serviced, and upgraded. I would need to be paid a lot to stay here again!!

Hotel staff friendly. Hotel itself is shabby and in need of updating. Heating not on in certain areas, pool changing area was freezing, I would recommend treating the jacuzzi with chemicals overnight so people can actually use it from early morning after all it is what is included in the price. Breakfast not too bad but the teabags they use are awful ( cheap) and the milk was going off ( didn’t drink) so overall apart from staff being friendly I won’t be returning.

We checked out before staying the night as we didn't feel that the hotel was safe to keep our children in.

The hotel condition is extremely dated and in a poor state which wasn't ideal; however, our decision to check out early came when we walked down the hotel corridor to our room at 7:30 and smelt cigarette smoke and marijuana coming out of the rooms and heard a dog whimpering in the room next door.

The guests who were staying in the rooms near us were extremely loud.

As we were leaving the hotel we are fairly sure that we witnessed a drug drop-off outside the hotel.

It is worth noting that the staff were trying their absolute best to be welcoming and helpful. They were apologetic when we explained why we were checking out early. The hotel manager called me the following day and offered a free of charge stay at either this hotel or their sister hotel new Drayton Manor. We declined but appreciated the gesture.

Really lovely staff, dealing with a worn out hotel. Great size room, very very dated and in need of some TLC. The bed was hard and sank in the middle. Hearing sounded like your room was next to a bus station.

The TV did not work!!!! It was ok until the evening and then lost signal. We took my grandson (10 months) so was in the room from 8pm. Couldn’t watch a thing!

Sud standard tea and coffee, no biscuits, corridor ceiling tiles going black with mould.

Pool, gym and spa excellent quality, the pool could have been 2oc warmer to counter balance the cold from the conservatory windows. Changing rooms freezing!!!!!

In all it would
Make an amazing stay if there was more thought to customer comfort, and a refresh.

It is a shame as the staff were great and helpful, but there is only so much that you can do.

The property was very dated and in need of some serious decoration and renovation. The hotel was deadly quiet and had little life. The room itself was in need of refurbing. Disappointing. Room was ok but quite cramped.
Went to reception to get towels for the pool and was told they'd run out but they would bring wine down to us. No towels turned up Pool was icy cold. Jacuzzi was dirty and the steam room was out of order. Ladies changing rooms were so cold I couldn't get changed in there.
We had to dress over our wet costumes and get sorted in our room.

Bedding was clean, bathroom was clean but dated. Rest of room looked to be hoovered/wiped but years of stains and dirt made it feel grubby.

The bed was broken and unusable until we saw that a perfectly sized log had fallen over; once we propped the log back up the bed was fine for our 1 night stay.

This hotel was fine for a cheap place to sleep for the night. If we were staying for more than 1 night or planned to spend more time at the hotel we would look for alternative accommodation.

Then I go to my room to find the filthiest carpet I have ever seen the I see I have a double bed when I paid for a queen mould round the windows and they looked like they hadn’t been cleaned in years and if that wasn't bad enough a black bug ran across my bed I was furious went to complain and ask for another room only to be told they don’t even do queen beds at the hotel they have no other rooms left and someone will come and vac the bug up what an absolute joke I booked four rooms for my guests for my birthday and they were all filthy I certainly will not be going back

Avoid at all costs

Hotel smells musty from entering the door. Greeted by leftovers from room service outside the door of a room a few doors away that was still there the following day. The room had a blood stain on the carpet as you cross the threshold. The toilet didnt flush and no hot water at 7am. Didn't want to chance the breakfast. Young girl on reception with a very painful looking black eye totalled 3 staff members we saw during our stay. The first being the receptionist on arrival who was smoking by the front door. I was really looking forward to my stay a this 'spa' hotel. Shocking is the only word i can use

No wow factor, but a very reasonable place to stay. A couple of small issues that's couldn't be resolved but the breakfast was good, the staff pleasant and the room clean, the power shower was great

The Mollington Banastre is a once-grand property in sore need of renovation in some areas. The reception, and downstairs areas were in good order, but the bedroom we stayed in was scruffy! It was a pet-friendly room, so I didn't expect it to be plushly furnished, but I also didn't expect the curtains to be in tatters!
On the flip side, the breakfast was good and the staff were pleasant and welcoming.
At £100/night on average, plus a per surcharge of £15, it was a bit steep!

We stayed at this hotel for our trip to Chester zoo and the location is great for the zoo. Check in was easy despite our late arrival. However, as per other reviews the hotel is quite old and could do with being revamped. When we woke up Saturday morning we unfortunately didn’t have an hot water for a shower. The spa / pool also looks like it needs some tlc. The walls were quite thin that we could hear people at 2am returning home and coughing next door. However, for the price we paid for the two nights we couldn’t argue too much.

Since my comments yesterday, we were moved to a better room, Room 6. This was a lot better than 14. Still right hand curtain ripped, and bed valance also ripped. Carpets stained. Again bed was uncomfortable you can feel the springs.
Had a good breakfast yesterday for £10, should have pre ordered scrambled egg, but it was ok. Think the whole place generally in need of a refurbishment if they want to compete with the Holiday Inn Express and Premier Inns of this world.

Very run down, how this has changed from 30 years ago. We are in Room 14, curtains are ripped and hanging off, radiator has no control valve and is Cold during day and very Hot at night. TV reception is poor. Very disappointed and regret having booked a secong night. Will not let me add photos.

Nice, just tired...

Had a family suite for one night to stay with my 2 boys.

The hotel was probably once a thriving, quite impressive hotel however it was let down by being very (very!) over-due a refit!

I have no particular complaints as it was very clean (other than the mugs in the room looked like noone had washed them since the last guests!), just very tired.

The pool area was good. Nice large pool with a childrens section.

Lovely hotel, really nice staff couldn't done enough for you. Really enjoyed swimming pool and jacuzzi. Rooms are clean and ours was big separate room for our grandchildren. Lovely meal in the evening couldn't fault it.breakfast was ok. Definitely would return

Mollington banastre hotel chester

Just got home from a 3 night stay staying at the Mollington Chester , we had a lovely stay , the family room was dated but was clean and very spacious. Staff were very friendly and helpfull, bar area was lovely and we used the pool once , which was lovely , would definitely stay again if we visit the area again

Two night trip away with my partner & 2 year old son. Standard Queen room. Was clean and cosy enough. A cot was provided in our room as requested. Plenty of space in the room also.
Around a 7-8 minute drive to both Chester Zoo & Chester Centre.
We got a taxi into the centre 1 night (£8). Would recommend the Sergios Italian Restaurant.
Didnt experience the spa services so cant comment.
Chose not to get breakfast for £15 and instead went for breakfast 3 minutes down the road at The Wheatsheaf (£4.99) all you can eat breakfast.

Very dated. Rooms and hotel has a floaty smell. Rooms was clean but sheets felt cheap. Breakfast is poor not much options. Coffee was stone cold. Abit over priced for what we got.

Tired, dated, unclean

Very tired and dated in both public areas and bedroom. Cobwebs in restaurant and crumbs on carpet, looks as though it hasn’t been cleaned in ages.
Bathroom was a disaster, toilet seat loose, difficult to flush, took several minutes to refill, water pressure very poor, wash bowl slow to drain, big dirty gap between bath and floor, radiator bracket had punched a hole through the wall.
We were refused croissants at 9.20, even though breakfast advertised till 10.00.
Tea and coffee was not readily forthcoming.
Overall very unsatisfactory

Excellent hotel in a very nice setting, location is very quiet and peaceful for a nice break.
The hotel has a nice size pool with jacuzzi hot tub and sauna which is definitely a luxury.
Good selections for breakfast and dinner including room service if you prefer, but overall I have to say the staff are excellent - my partner and I have stayed here before and the staff are extremely polite and personable which adds to the charm of the hotel!

We stayed for 4 nights in the Mollington Banastre, and few things we've noticed when we walked in the room was that there was no air-conditioning or hangers in the wardrobe, no doorknob signs to get your room cleaned, the pillows were very thin. The property has ample parking space, the staff were very nice and helpful and the indoor facilities were also quite good.

Stayed two nights in twin room. Hotel is in need of an update. Our room was clean but wardrobe doors would not shut, shower head fittings falling apart, toilet difficult to flush. Hotel surroundings are lovely, the pool and fitness facilities are good. Staff all very nice and helpful. Restaurant food quality hit and miss, my pasta was good, my wife's fish and chips was poor.

The receptionist was very friendly and helpful, he helped accommodate us to another room due to a faulty toilet. Unfortunately the rooms and hotel itself aren’t very clean, it’s very dated which is a shame as it has beautiful grounds and so much potential. The changing rooms for the swimming area isn’t very nice, it’s dark, freezing and unclean. You have to leave your belongings at the poolside if you don’t have a lock for the lockers too. Unfortunately we won’t be returning to this accommodation.

Room was dirty and needing updating bed was very uncomfortable hardly slept the three night we was there, nosiey due to lack og double glazing , only positive thing about this place was the staff were friendly and the pool and location , very disappointed with our stay
