Very nice hotel in the centre of Chester. Great restaurant and a spacious room. Very comfortable bed. Only complaint was the show was a shower and tub combo which didn’t drain well and was not easy to shower in. I think that’s more of a cultural thing with the UK preference vs American. All in all this is the best hotel in Chester that I have stayed in (stayed in a lot over the years).

This is a hotel with great charm, history and a welcoming, classy atmosphere. The staff were all outstanding, warm, friendly, professional and keen to provide high standards of hospitality and service. Our room was well appointed, well equipped and comfortable. The breakfast was excellent. The location is perfect. Bar and restaurant extremely good. Only slight downside was that some aspects of the room would benefit from a refurb/refresh, a bit of investment needed. We would not hesitate to return, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Special thanks to the day and evening bartenders, check in team, breakfast team, concierge and night manager (wish I’d got their names). Be careful re the carpark, register before you go to pay online as if you try to register after leaving you face a fine as we found to our cost. For us we wouldn’t stay anywhere else in Chester now and look forward to our next visit.

We didn’t appreciate having to pay £100 upfront on arrival (that we weren’t told about) as a deposit which we would get back. I had already booked and paid for the room. There were small refreshments in the room - crisps, biscuits, chocolate etc but I didn’t realise at first that there was an expensive charge if you ate them. I would have thought they were complimentary and it didn’t seem welcoming. The room was below average. The bedside plugs didn’t work, there was a crack in sink, handles were falling off, windows did not open and were very dirty, the decor was tired. The bed was big, clean and comfortable. The room was quiet and warm. There was air conditioning. The staff were very good and professional. In particular, the man on the door was very friendly and helpful. The entrance and dining area was impressive. The location is excellent.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here- my executive room was both spacious and comfortable. The bed was amazingly comfortable and large and the bedding was beautiful too.
Decor is pleasing and warm and the room was well equipped.
The bathroom had a bath with shower over it - water was very warm and instant and Elemis toiletries were a treat.
Check-in was fast and professional and my bag arrived at my room within 2 minutes.
I was on the first floor near the spa - there was no view to speak of but that didn't bother me.
There is a sort of small vestibule area between the main room door and bedroom door that alleviates any hallway noise.
I always think it's the staff that make hotels good or bad- and the staff here were all without exception, exceptional. All so professional, polite and pleasant.
A very enjoyable stay.

Easy access to the hotel from the Eastgate shopping centre car park. Helpful reception. Booked a Junior suite which was very comfortable and spacious. At the price of the room, though I think the breakfast should be fully inclusive . As it was, we had the included continental breakfast which was very good. The location in the centre of Chester is most convenient. There was a bit of late night noise from drunken revellers in the street but that is not the fault of the hotel. Overall we had a very enjoyable stay. Thank you.

Hotel has a brilliant, central location and is only a short walk from the station.
The hotel's service was excellent and all staff were lovely. Greeted at the door, taken to our room and shown the amenities and offered bookings both internally and externally. Room had a good range of premium tea and coffee, fresh milk and toiletries, too. Bed was big and comfy. Robes were provided too.
Breakfast was delicious. We upgraded to a traditional full breakfast and the ingredients were great quality and tasted good. Check out was a personal process, not just dumping keys in a box. We really enjoyed it.

If you want any protein for breakfast then the continental that’s included is not for you. The full English is good but it’s £12.50 extra, which is reasonable.
Our room was ok, but bathroom was a bit “tired”.

We loved our room - we had a suite, it was amazing apart from the lack of ventilation, which made it a little dusty.

Also the hotel appeared under staffed, they had forgotten to give us replacement milk for coffee, it took 2 visits to reception as the phones weren’t manned. Breakfast took a while. Staff didn’t look happy which is so unusual for this hotel.

Very spacious and comfortable room, the bed was huge! Lovely and cosy. This is a very traditional grand hotel in the centre of Chester and was beautifully decked out for Christmas, the level of service was top notch, though we were only there for one night we were very well looked after. The carpark with direct access to the hotel was a bonus as was the complimentary continental breakfast, which was delicious and very generous.

The check in process is a little weird with the desks that they sit you down at and you fill in a few items on a form. As pretentious as they are here, I was expecting a bit more from the rooms. While the outward appearance is ok, the temperature was always too hot in the Winter and we could not get it to cool down no matter how low we set it. The handle on the toilet was practically falling off. The sink was cracked and the handles on the faucet leaked water all over the counter. The shower is mostly open and shoots water all over the bathroom floor. The other thing I noticed is nobody but the doorman seemed very friendly. The cleaning crew never once said hi or good morning in the hallways. The room service guy just walked in and put the tray down and walked out without really saying anything. The best thing about the stay was that the bed was pretty comfortable and it was located centrally in Chester.

I think everyone who books through Expedia must get a view of the air con units. This was no exception. Room ok, bit tired and chilly. Had to hunt for the robes which were in white plastic bags. We ate at The Arkle. Only 5 in the chilly dining room. The food was equally as cold, such a shame as it looks beautiful. We went to the bar after for a drink, but ended up taking it back to our room as we were the only people there, probably due to the temperature. Most of the staff are very friendly and it’s a good location.,would possibly stay there again, but would eat elsewhere…

Very disappointed with our stay at the Chester Grosvenor. We arrived in the evening and were disappointed to find that the only time allowed for breakfast was before 8 am.

When going to use the shower - there was no hot water and the sink only had scalding hot water. When sharing the feedback with the manager, their response was apologetic. For 200+ quid a night, the basics just are not in place for a “luxury” hotel.

Would advise you to book elsewhere as we will not be back in the future.

The room we were first allocated was terrible the bed so old dipped in the middle

Stained carpets furniture chipped bathroom tired enamel peeling off bath
so moved to another similar room no views either
Then moved to another a suite slightly better but dated and tired definitely not 5 star as stated
The only saving grace was the Arkle restaurant which was excellent service excellent and food to die for amazing

I loved this hotel and felt very special. The only thing I would look to improve would be the bathrooms. Whilst I understand the need to keep the regency suite as a 60 year old I found it a little unsafe getting in and out of the bath to have a shower without a bath mat or firm footing beneath me.

From booking to leaving the whole experience has been amazing.we had a very pleasant greeting and our room was upgraded. The room was on the first floor , very pleasant room with settee seperate bathroom , tea coffee facilities and robe with slippers.
We used the spa and the breakfast was included i had porridge and toast with ample tea. My husband upgraded to an omlette which was tasty. Fantastic service and we were made to feel special. Thank you
