Room was ok. Bed was two beds together so you kept falling down the gap in the middle. Needed a thick mattress topper that covers both beds so you couldn’t go down the gap. The hotel was a little tired inside with doors needing painting as it made the experience feel cheap. Staff were polite and helpful. Room was big but tv only had shopping channels so couldn’t watch anything. The room was also on the high street so all night we heard shouting and commotion so didn’t get much sleep. Some better glazing would help

Twin room needs a makeover. One small bedroom window very high up so you couldn’t see out and not much light getting through. Gave the sense of a prison. Very tired decor and furniture. The cheapest toilet paper on the market. One small residents bar which was under stocked. Didn’t try breakfast so can’t comment on the food. Won’t be staying again. Not worth the money.

The Room was spotless and the staff were all absolutely wonderful to deal with. My main issue was that outside my window had pigeons cooing all night and I unfortunately am a very light sleeper. Other wise great stay and I am happy to stay again but in a different part of the hotel.

The hotel location was fabulous however we faced disappointment with certain aspects of the stay:
- the hotel bed had two hairs in the sheets / pillows on arrival which is quite disgusting
- there were no towels in the room so we had to get some from the maid before showering causing an inconvenience
- the room was incredibly hot and when we tried to use the air conditioning unit there was no remote in the room to actually turn it on so we had restless sleep every night

I’d expect these issues not to arise considering the price paid for the 2 night stay. What can hotels.com do to compensate this?

Hotel needs refurbishing, toilet difficult to flush properly, stains on seat upholstery, stained paintwork on wood doors and skirting boards. Did not meet my expectations so it is unlikely that I would stay there again.

We have been staying at this hotel on and off for over 10 years .we can see a massive deterioration. For example. No dressing gown.no slippers ..we always had them ...bathrooms : probably need upgrade. Due to windows age ..i can see reason for the windows being bolted shut but there isnt any air in the room .
Staff are very friendly. Breakfast...all fried ... variety not as it was .very poor
We will probably book another hotel next year.

Checking in was on and staff were friendly! Going to our room it got hotter and hotter! On first look to just drop our things the room was ok but extremely hot!
We stayed two night and each night was unbearably hot! At one point I woke at midnight and thought I was going to pass out as it felt about 50 degrees in the room!
On our first morning we had a shower, which was needed after the amount of sweating from the heat! However getting out of the shower over bath the bathroom floor was like a lake! There were two holes in the bottom of the bath so a lot of the water just went onto the floor!
The drain was also FULL of hair so the water in both the bath and sink too forever to drain….i was not picking out someone else’s head of hair!
We did tell reception of our issues after the first night and we were told “we will try and get a maintenance person to take a look”. Well nothing done so we didn’t chance a shower the second morning depite smelling from sweating all night again!
We checked out and we’re not asked at all how our stay was and we put our luggage in the store room to collect later!
We went back later in the day to collect our luggage to find a Que of people who had waited for a member of staff for over 30 minutes,they had tried to call the numbers and the bell but no answer! I just wanted our luggage so I tried the storage door and it was open,I grabbed our stuff! Not very secure!
A cleaner then walked through reception, who didn’t know where all the staff were!

The staff were welcoming and attentive we arrived late on the room was boiling hot and theradiator stuck on. There were marks in the sink clearly not cleaned the kettle was hidden away in the wardrobe, we decided to have a drink at the bar waited ages for someone to turn up to serve theprices were extortionate £22.95 for large red and diet coke

Room Cleanliness: The room was in an unacceptable condition. There was a large, unsightly stain on the carpet beside the bed, the mattress had a prominent red stain, the bathroom ceiling was blackened—presumably due to condensation or mould—and the shower only produced cold water.
Noise Levels: Excessive noise from downstairs persisted throughout the night, making it extremely difficult to rest.
Staff Service: There was no staff presence at the front desk when assistance was needed. Additionally, the dedicated phone line for the Duty Manager went straight to voicemail, leaving no way to escalate concerns.
Breakfast Experience: The breakfast service was chaotic. The chef was unable to fulfil orders, the food that was eventually served was undercooked, and the waiting staff were left to manage a high volume of complaints from other dissatisfied guests.

The only positive comment i can say about the property is that it is in the centre of chester and well placed for shopping, restaurants,bars and sight seeing.
As for the property itself is very run down, in need of a full refurb - I stayed in room 121 the bathroom needs updating the blind on the window apart from having no pullcord - the blind is rancid the extractor fan in bathroom not working - the carpet in the bedroom is very worn - threadbare in places, full of marks and very dirty. The voile on the window in the bedroom is filthy and has disgusting marks what can only be discribed as some kind of fluid. Broken furniture and obviously has not been dusted for a very long time. Corridors also in need of attention - clearly havent been hoovered for quite sometime. Had to ask reception for service in the bar - no one serving - limited choice of wine - one white and one red !!!! Not exactly well stocked as stated on info. After an enjoyable meal in a local restaurant returned to the hotel around 8:30pm hoping to have a night cap only to find the bar in darkness - when i asked reception if it would be possible to have a drink i was told the bar is closed - really at 8:30 pm !!! Hotel over priced needs full refurb and should cater for residents not staff Obviously will not be staying there again

Rooms and public areas clean.
Ideal location for exploring the city centre from the bus or train station.
Shopping, eating and drinking around the locality provided lots of choices within a few minutes walk.

A comfortable room, a little tired and worn around the edges but, it's an original period building which adds to the character and the Standard King Room was a great size plus the addition of a drinking water fountain in the corridor was an unexpected bonus for me.

Only 2 drawbacks:
the bath isn't easy to step out of due to not having a handrail on the short end of the wall at the opposite end to the shower head. The fixed shower screen rendered the grab rail on the outer side of the bath useless.
I have back and cervical spine issues which means I have a weakness to the left side of my body, unable to balance well and being able to grip with my left hand.
Not being able to get fresh air into the room overnight as not even the smallest window could be open just an inch or two.
I have fresh air in my bedroom spring, summer and winter as a too dry atmosphere impacts sinus problems and my asthma.

Not major issues for most people, but it meant I awoke several times during the night.

Lighting positioning in the bathroom and bedroom for applying makeup could be improved above the mirrors.

Comfortable beds and pillows plus a nice weighty duvet set - perfect 👌

Hotel is in a great location, very central and the staff were helpful and friendly.
The room was clean, we booked king size and the bed was very comfortable. Air conditioning unit not very powerful although a desk top fan was provided which we needed as the windows are sealed shut and it was warm weather. The bathroom is in desperate need of maintenance . Shower fitting is hanging from the wall, extractor fan not working, shower water not draining away - drain is obviously blocked.
Breakfast sadly mediocre, no seasonal fruit or yogurt provided (despite being on the menu). So I asked for some and the waitress went to see if they had any - just a watermelon was sliced up and served. Coffee was not nice, it was weak and tasted like cheap instant stuff. The cooked breakfast was nice but no black pudding available despite being listed on the menu.

Upon booking the same day, with plenty of availability, arrived to the only room left in the hotel, upon checking into the room it was not serviced from the previous occupants. Was told I’ll get a refund sent on my way, not what I wanted to hear at 11 o’clock at night absolutely appalling service.

From a short amount I saw of the hotel it appears they have made a little progress from the last time I stayed here. Don’t waste your money. Go stay at a proper hotel..

Lovely hotel , perfectly situated in the city centre. Clean and tidy but some features in the rooms need attention, such as bathroom grouting and blown bath panel .
The staff were all pleasant and accommodating.
Breakfast was fine on Saturday with table service, although the portions were a bit light . But the Sunday was somewhat shambolic with unlaid tables , people queuing and food running out, the girls serving tried but it needed better organisation.
That said , we would stay here again, hoping that the minor issues would be resolved

This is an old hotel entrance looks quite grand and in good proximity to the town centre. Room - we had had a king size bed which was comfortable but the room was very tired. Lots of stains on the carpet and furniture. It was warm weather but both windows were sealed for “our safety “. They had air conditioning but not much good. Bathroom - the toilet didn’t flush very well and we were told they would make a note but nothing done while we were there lots of black mould around fitting needed a good scrub and dent in the bath tub filled in. Breakfast finished early 9am and wasn’t the best. Staff appeared pleasant and friendly but don’t think we would return.

The staff were good, but young. This is an older hotel and it is bound to have a few tatty edges. I had a lovely time there but in my heart knew this was a declining set up. A McDonalds chip lay on the floor in the lift at the beginning of my 7 day stay. It was still there when I left. Breakfasts were nice.

Extremely poor service, reception rarely manned, dated rooms in desperate need of refurbishment. Rooms not cleaned whilst staying and towels had to be requested. As for breakfast this was a total joke, items missing from breakfast as they ran out early and attitude of the restaurant staff was disgraceful. On raising the complaint to receptionist, it was talking to a brick wall, no acknowledgment of the issues we raised. Definitely won’t be staying here again.
