Beautiful old building with charming old-style rooms even thought recently renovated. Walking distance from the center of Vienna, with many restaurants and cafes nearby. Helpful and friendly staff. The rooms have no air-conditioning and can therefore be very warm at hot weather. The tram passes along the street frequently during the day, but not at night, as you could expect in the center of the city.

Excellent on a budget

For Vienna this is a very cheap hotel, just look at the UBahn to work out how to get there as it is a little walk from the centre. I found Alser Strabe to be the nearest or you can catch the tram to just outside the university and walk to the hotel from a different direction but all in all, easy to get to. Perfect if you’re on a budget. Rooms are a little dated but it’s clean.

overall this place was great, the interiors were beautiful, and it even has an auto-heat rack to dry your towels. It's not too far from the city area where you can walk but if we wanted to go somewhere far using public transportation, it seems you would have to walk a little farther and have to switch transportation. We ended up using Uber most of the time which is still good. Our flight came in really early before the staff came in so we had trouble leaving our luggage. But the staff were handsome and provided friendly service.

This was our first time in Vienna. Hotel was ok. Very dated and cleanliness needs addressing. Stains on linen , pillows and very lump mattresses. Can't comment on breakfast as didn't have. Reception helpful on arrival until change of staff ( unhelpful). Overall average

Great location. Helpful staff. One of the most uncomfortable beds I’ve ever slept on in a hotel and I travel about 6 times a year! Very very soft beds left us all with a sore back. Razor like bed sheets left us all itchy.

The location can't be faulted, it's definitely very convenient. There are other charms to the hotel such as the lift (quite a novelty), and the spaciousness of the rooms.

However, we booked this as 4 star accommodation - it's not. The facilities are 3 star at best (pay for water the room, the only tea/coffee facilities are at an extra charge at reception, no safe in room, no shelving for clothes - just hanging space), the bathroom in our room was tiny meaning the towels were shoved in under the sink, the bathroom is higher in level than the room, except that this isn't noticable as the step is mirrored so just reflects the carpet around it. The area around the lift and staircase is dirty - marking all over the walls that show it's clearly not being maintained. There was a dirty tatty rug outside the door to our bedroom wing - this had no rubber edges or base to keep it in place for people walking over it or rolling a suitcase, so it was basically just a trip hazard that would be better off in the bin.

The bed was okay, but my partner found it on the small side due to the bed having a footboard.

Overall the accommodation was okay. Didn't feel ripped off, but don't think I'd stay there again or recommend it to others.

Nice quiet hotel walking distance to the city centre, less than 15 minutes.
Close to the underground & shops & coffee shops eg Hotel provide an excellent transfer from the airport, hassle free, very polite driver . ( make sure you have cash ready for your transfer) l did not have enough money , plus could not pay by card . He was so kind and let me to pay the difference next day to the hotel . Luck of fresh coffee in the room .Otherwise very good stay !

In a great location, 5-10 mins from Rathaus depending on your pace. Public transport all around to get you all over the city. The hotel was comfort and the rooms were to a good standard. I'm fussy when it comes to bathrooms and can say this hotels bathroom was good, a spacious room with a large shower. The bed was comfortable, however I found I sank too much into it and was sometimes a struggle to get out, as it was very close to the wall. The only negative comment I can make is around 6-7am everyday there seemed to be a lot of noise coming from inside the hotel. I don't know if it was other guests leaving or cleaners going up and down the stairs (the lift is tiny) but it disturbed my sleep everyday.

Very good location, 10 minutes from Rathaus and a really safe area. Nice size rooms with comfy beds and large TV. Staff all seemed friendly and greet you with a smile. Slight downside was that if was often very noisy first thing in the morning. Would likely stay there again though.

An old hotel with good location

It looks clean and cute in picture online, but it wasn't actually so. It's just an old hotel. Room was ok, clean enough to stay overnight. You have to cross 2-3 different doors to get into your room. Bathroom was ok. Elevator is very old, felt like it could break any time we were in it.

Service was good. Wifi was good. Breakfast was not free but cheap. There is no AC in the hotel so keep that in mind if you travel to Vienna in the height of summer. Parking on the street so take time to find parking and be prepared to walk back to hotel after finding a parking.

Surrounding areas are great. About 40 minutes walking to Hoffsburg. You can find plenty of things to do and places to entertain.

The location of this hotel is pretty good, near the university. The neighborhood is safe. The public transportation options are multiple. The staff at the reception was all right. The room was ok. There was no A/C in the room. Limited amenities.

Easy 10 minute walk to the Rathaus U station. Right on the tram route if you can figure out the trams :)
The room was like an IKEA showroom. Very comfortable and clean. Breakfast was typical Austrian with soft boiled eggs and lots of bread.

Reasonable priced hotel within walking distance to the city centre and metro. Staff were friendly and helpful, they even lets us check in early which was great. Rooms are fairly clean. Our only disappointment was the lack of hot water on the last two days.

We had a lovely stay at this hotel. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. We had many questions and due to a personal medical condition we need to change our room, which the staff did for us in a timely and wonderful manner. The staff at this hotel will make your stay a memorable one.

The hotel staff provide really good information when asked and are very accommodating. There is no air conditioning so it can be very hot in the room even with a fan. The internet does not always work well. However, the hotel is close to the city tram and it will take you to train stations and there are markets, restaurants and banks close by.

The staff at this hotel are absolutely amazing. They gave us the vest recommendations for restaurants and cafes, and were always attentive and kind. Also--when we travel, we prefer to stay in neighborhoods surrounded by locals rather than tourist areas surrounded by tourists. This location is perfect. Close to 2 tram stops & a short walk to the U-line. We'll stay here again next time we visit!

Great value for money

Very well maintained pension with very kind and helpful staff. The room I stayed in was spacious and very clean with traditional furniture and wooden floor and the bed was very comfortable. It is my understanding that many rooms are carpeted and some with modern furniture so you should specify your preference. Small bathroom as an added modern structure to the room but clean and fit for purpose. Rooms are on a courtyard or on the street but there is some noise either side especially in the morning.
Free tea in the reception area.

Oldish but clean, well located

Oldish style, but perfectly clean. Very pleasant staff. Good location, near a tramway line. I said 'oldish' above because it doesn't resemble a typical famous-chain US hotel with its many amenities, large spaces and sometimes fake-feeling or 'overboard' luxury. But the other qualities mentioned above are well worth it and the low price makes it even more attractive.

Great time in Vienna

We spent three nights at Pension Baronesse and had a great time. The room was very spacious and staff really helpful in providing directions to attractions and even laundry facilities. You can purchase bus tickets from the hotel too. The area is very safe even late at night. The hotel is located within walking distance to many attractions and city center. It is not a fancy hotel if that's what you are looking for, but it is fine if you just want to enjoy beautiful Vienna. I would certainly go back there.

Location is great. Just few minutes from public transportation, but that is the one and only good thing about this place.
Room smelled of feces. I'm not trying to be funny or anything. But, the room I stayed in literally smelled like someone defecated on the floor. At least the room didn't smell like someone smoked in it. Pretty much everything was broken in the room from light fixture to shower head. Very thin wall so you can expect to hear everything from foot steps to conversations next door.

Customer service was non-existent. The front desk staff mocked me about asking here few questions (such as parking). I had some questions but didn't ask her since she was so dismissive.

The reception staff, were in the most part, pleasent, although we were made to feel sightly awkward by one member of staff when we wanted to know about basic amenities (taxis/trams) in the area, which left us with a slightly negative view of the helpfulness of service.

I was totally disappointed with this hotel. The room was tiny, the floors and headboard were incredibly old and made me feel itchy. I was glad to be able to spend just a short amount of time in my room since I spent the majority of the time sightseeing. The location was a highlight though - it was pretty central to the tram and the things I wanted to see.

The room was clean and comfortable. Front desk personnel very friendly and helpful. You have to want to walk though, as hotel s not really that close to main attractions. Couple of cafes around the corner, but most closed Sundays Best thing was the bakery across the street, which was open on Sunday morning. I thought the room was pricey, as you are not really in the city...Also booked with hotels.com, and was disappointed that at this price, I DON'T get room rewards!!!!

4 stars is a joke, even 1 star would be

I write this from the viewpoint of having booked a 4-star-hotel. The room standard is not the standard of a hotel but of a guest house. In my room was an old, dirty, smelling carpet which is disgusting even for a 1 or 2 star hotel. The room standard was of 1980 or before. The bathroom was tiny as well as the room. The morning staff was unfriendly. I would not ever go back there and I do not know how this could be evaluated 4 stars - this is just a joke.

Like Staying with an Eccentric Older Relative

The Hotel Pension Baronesse is located within a 30 minute walk to Imperial Vienna - faster if taking the trams with stops within a block of the hotel. The building was once quite grand, I think, with nice, old-fashioned touches like double doors and windows for keeping the rooms cozy, a seat in the elevator and chandeliers in the hotel rooms. The hotel offers a typical German breakfast: eggs, rolls, cereal, cheese, deli meats, juice and coffee. The bathroom was tight, especially, for three people. The hotel's most outstanding feature is the staff - helpful and knowledgeable, the staff seemed to bend over backwards to make us feel welcome and answer all of our many questions with uneding good cheer. Overall, we liked the value and the location enough to return to the Baronesse when we go back to Vienna.

I would stay here again. The staff are wonderful, very helpful and friendly. If you are going to Vienna (or practically anywhere in Austria) in summer, be prepared. Most hotels, pensions and guesthouses have no air conditioning. Baroness did provide fan which was nice. Very clean. No free breakfast but lots of cafe's within a block or so.

Fine for a few days in Vienna

Stayed here for 2 nights at the end of a very long 2 week trip in Austria. This was least comfortable of the 5 hotels we stayed at while in Austria, but for the price and location, it was fine. I would stay here again. We stayed in mid-september when it was getting cooler. I would not recommend this hotel for the summer because I don't believe it had A/C and opening the windows let in all the noise from the street which was considerable. The breakfast was fine, typical for Austrian hotels.

Great place to stay!

Our room was huge, with high ceilings and gracious proportions, and the staff was the friendliest and most helpful we have ever met. Location was very convenient for walking around the inner city and the breakfast was magnificent.
Only downside for us was that it is on a pretty noisy street and we are compulsive window-open sleepers. The windows are all double, though (an inner and an outer window, with a foot or so of space between) so if you are willing to close them I don't think the noise issue would arise.

Very old hotel, feel like haunted

It was lucky that we only stayed in the hotel for one night during our return to Vienna. We booked because we see a lot of positive comments from hotel.com and thought this is a boutiquire hotel with old style decorations but there are way too many complaints on this hotel. People said this is very convenient but the nearest metro station is Rathaus and it takes about 15 minutes walk from the station to the hotel while not many things to see around. There is no direct tram going to the major tourist area such as Stephansplatz area. The receptionists are not very helpful and some can't even speak fluent English. We were astonished to see the lift which is the 60th Century lift (which we need to pull out the door) - but we can treat this as an antique! We need to open a door with our key when we reached the 2nd floor where our room is located and then found our room at the end of the corridor. The room was very old and damaged. Seems like there are fleas as well. We were itchy sleeping on the bed. No Kettle in room and no complimentary coffee or tea in the room. Given this price, it was far from expectation. No carpets and the wood floor is worn and dirty. Toilet seems to be built in at a later date, just a shower in a very small toilet, need to squeeze in and the towels are greyish and worn too. Cracks on the wall can be easily seen everywhere. We feel like only one room was occupied in our floor apart from ours but we really don't understand why the staff put us in such a room while there are so many rooms around which at least have carpets (though look old too). There is a bunch of dirty and dusted white rose hanging on the wall on top of the bed. Our only feeling is that when we slept there, it is like sleeping in a tomb. Breakast was no good at all, not even the basics e.g. scramble egges / bacon. We can only find boiled eggs and one type of boiled sausage and the rest are continental breakfast. Ladies who clean the room are polite and friendly. Perhaps this is the only positive things we can tell.

Bello, comodo e bell’atmosfera

Sembra uscito dagli anni ’50, un hotel perfetto per l’atmosfera che cercavamo a Vienna. Stile antico ma molto curato e confortevole. Nonostante il freddo, la stanza era caldissima, il letto comodo e la camera e il bagno pulitissimi. Anche la colazione era piuttosto soddisfacente. Non c’è reception h24, ma siamo stati accolti bene al nostro arrivo. Si potrebbe però pensare di mettere dell’acqua gratuita nelle stanze, l’acqua a pagamento non è una buona idea. In generale ci è piaciuto e, se torniamo a Vienna, pensiamo di soggiornare di nuovo qui!

Helt greit

Helt greit rom for en billig penge. Vi var der 3 netter, så kjipt med tv som alt er dubbet på, må ut ved inngangen å røyke, ikke sitteplass der, så morgenkaffen og røyken må du ta stående. Ikke mat på hotellet. Kun te og kaffe. Veldig hyggelige folk som jobber der da.

Ok hotell nærme julemarked i Vienna. Standard på Hotel er ok. Rom er veldig romslige og høyt under taket. Gode senger. Veldig fornøyd med hotellet samlet sett. Det som var negativt er at det trekker en del fra vinduene, så det kan bli litt kaldt på rommet. Vasken på rom 2020 lakk. Ga beskjed i resepsjonen. De lovet å fikse det neste morgen, men ingen fulgte opp. Så den lekker nok fortsatt :)

Es ist zwar nicht das modernste Hotel, jedoch ist es genau so eingerichtet, wie ich mir Wien vorgestellt hab. Etwas kitschig und veraltet. Zimmer waren total sauber und leider seeeeehr warm, hatten mit 32 grad jedoch auch die große Hitze draußen. Sehr nützlich waren dafür die 2 Standventilatoren in unserem Zimmer. Parkplätze findet man in der Gegend schnell, jedoch sollte beachtet werden, dass es sich bei dem Gebiet um eine Kurzparkzone handelt. Bis Freitag 22 Uhr kann hier nur kostenpflichtig geparkt werden (Automaten oder ähnliches gibt es jedoch nicht, also muss man wohl Plaketten o.ä. haben), Samstag und Sonntag kann dagegen ohne Probleme dort geparkt werden. Das Hotel liegt ca. 10 Gehminuten vom Rathaus entfernt, dort findet man die U-Bahn und schon die ersten Sehenswürdigkeiten. Innerhalb von 15-20 Minuten ist man auch schon in der Altstadt. Etliche Restaurants und Caffes befinden sich ebenfalls in unmittelbarer Nähe. Kann das Hotel nur weiterempfehlen.

Einfaches Hotel, preiswert, zentral, sauber

Einfaches, preiswertes Hotel in der Wiener Innenstadt, sauber, bis auf den Gesamtzustand, der einfach nicht der neuste ist aber einen alten Wiener Charme hat. Im Sommer heiß, und nur bei offenem Fenster auszuhalten, was schwierig ist, bei einer Straßenbahnlinie direkt vor der Haustür. Sehr freundliches und hilfsbereites Personal. Sehr verkehrsgünstig, Einkaufsmöglichkeiten und Cafés, Kneipen, Bäckereien in direkter Nähe. Bis auf Tram sehr ruhig.
