Outstanding hotel. Coming from the train, hopped #1 tram to Commerce, 1 block from hotel, which is in the lovely pedestrian zone. Rooms was large, excellent bed & bedding, WC was sleek, nice to have a little fridge & bathrobes. Our \"Priviledge\" Room also had a Juliet balconey overlooking the walkway.
Common rooms have simple elegance (lobby, bar, restaurant). Didn't use the gym, but ironing room was handy! Great area for seeing sights, restaurants & shops.

BTW our impressions of this hotel started out great in the first minutes because of the young lady at reception, Julie,who greeted us the afternoon of Nov 2nd.
Rarely do we meet someone so flawless in every aspect. She was warm, friendly and very efficient. Provided an excellent room, clear information and made sure we were aware of all the hotel offers. After giving us our keys (without having to ask, 2) she asked if there was any other way she could help make our visit better. One has the feeling she will be succesful in any profession but she is certainly perfectly suited to hospitality.
This is definitely our No #1 for Nantes on any return trip.

Spacious crook but difficult for driving

Our room was spacious and comfortable. The hotel is in a location that is walkable to everything. However, it is very confusing to get to the hotel if you are driving. It is in the centre of the city. You have to use an intercom on the street to lower a metal tube-like thing that blocks the road. Also, the parkade is very tight.

Lovely hotel

We had a very comfortable stay. It’s a lovely hotel in a fantastic location easy walking distance from the beautiful town centre, lots of great bars cafes restaurants nearby. We can highly recommend The Tomato. All The staff at the hotel were all very friendly and helpful.
The parking situation however is a bit of a nightmare if you drive a higher vehicle. The car park is underground, low ceiling and tight to manoeuvre in. It’s also situated in a pedestrian area so you need directions and a code to get into the pedestrian area from the hotel before arriving (the postcode for the hotel itself is problematic with sat navs if driving). I’d recommend calling the hotel beforehand to get the code and instructions on how to drive to the hotel.
I would definitely stay there again, but would go in a much smaller car!

The hotel is very well located. It has shops and restaurants in a walking distance. Nantes was my starting point for my Loire Valley tour and I rented a car after checking out the hotel which worked very well for me. The train station has car rental offices and it is 30 mins in a walking distance from the hotel. Nantes doesn’t required a car to see the highlights. The staff of the hotel was very friendly and the room was super comfortable.

A truely superb location. All amenities and transport connections in close proximity. Abundance of varied restaurants.
Facilities at hotel were great. A dedicated room with a Polti steam iron for those sharp looking clothes. Staff were all extremely helpful. Particular praise for Harry in the breakfast room for all his help. Breakfast choice extensive. Coffee was excellent.
Would suggest labelling of those products suitable for vegetarians.

The rooms are small and outdated. Furnishing feels cheap. Bathroom showed a little mold formation, which isn’t never great for a 4* and above. Staff was friendly and welcoming.

Very friendly and helpful staff. They helped us to purchase train ticket from Nantes to Paris which would have been very difficult to do on our own. Excellent service in comparison to another Mercure Hotel in Paris near Eiffel Tower where we stayed on our way back to US. The Paris Mercure is not a quality hotel, poor service, and the bathroom had no accessories, no soap, no shower gel, no shampoo, no body lotion. After repeated inquiry the never provided those during our one night stay. The blamed the house keeping. However, Mercure Nantes Center Grand Hotel has great staff and excellent service.

Location and room were excellent. Very convenient for all sights, staff very pleasant and very helpful. Gave prompt and clear directions to the hotel car park. We enjoyed our stay.
Only downside was state of easy chairs in reception which were extremely grubby and give a very poor impression. They look totally out of place

Nice hotel in the centre of the city

Although right in the centre of the city, the hotel is very quiet. The room was clean and comfortable and the check-in staff were fantastic. It was great being able to visit the whole of the city centre without needing any sort of transport as it is all within walking distance. Also the airport shuttle bus stops just one minute away which is a real bonus.

Good hotel in central location. Convenient hotel in central position. Close to bus for airport, trams, bars, shops etc. railway station about 15 mins walk. Air conditioning worked well ( 32 deg C outside !). Breakfast was of good quality with plenty of choice including some cooked food like scrambled egg, bacon and sausage. Great coffee choice with Nespresso machine. Not easy access to breakfast at busy times due to lack of space between food shelves and tables near by. Quick lift service.

Nice hotel in central Nantes but make sure you get the parking code before you arrive at the hotel. We could not get close to the hotel because all the streets were closed with disappearing barriers. Finally parked illegally by the church and walked to the hotel to get directions and the barrier code. After that, everything with the hotel was very good.

The hotel is in a great location, very central. Staff are efficient but not friendly at all. The rooms are a good size but a little tired. There was stains on the carpet, why don't hotels just have hard floors, a lot easier to keep clean. A wall light fitting was quite loose. When you arrive you shouldn't have to swill other people's hair out of the shower.

Great location, all you can expect from a Mercure, no surprises . Good that the hotel has a private parking (albeit at an extra charge). If going by car, it us worth contacting the hotel in advance to get their code to enter the restricted zone. Otherwise, you might end up parking in unauthorized zones and get yourself in trouble.

City centre gem!

Brilliant stay in a very central hotel. Hotel was very clean and modern, and the family room was just right for 2 Adults a 14 year old and an 11 year old. Had a corner room with a small step out balcony, great for watching a vibrant and exciting city go by. Reception staff were excellent, from our welcome to getting directions to and from the on-site parking (11 Euros for an overnight stay and well worth it). The cool air conditioned atrium was welcoming on a very hot Nantes day. We were very happy with our stay, Will definitely be back!

Hotel is deceptively modern. Outside on the street it appears to be a typical French city hotel, thick stone walls, faded grandeur. Inside the lobby and rooms are uncluttered and contemporary. There's a small bar kitted out with soft furnishings and stylish lamps. The hotel doesn't have a restaurant. It has what Mecure call a breakfast cafe. Service is buffet-style, Our room was compact, cleverly laid out to provide the essentials without promoting claustrophobia. Comfortable bed, sufficient wardrobe space, multi-channel TV, tea and coffee-making facilities, making it impossible to fault the overall value-for-money the hotel offers. The Mecure Grand is very conveniently located. All of Nantes' key attractions are within walking distance, not to mention a variety of restaurants and bars. The airport shuttle also stops at the bottom of the road. A real benefit if you're hauling heavy luggage. In an age when service is frequently painted-on smiles and time is money assistance, the front of house staff during our stay were constantly willing to do more.

Centrally located, though tricky to reach by car

Smart, modern hotel very centrally located with most sights in walking distance or a few tram stops away. Access to the hotel by car is complex. Read and follow the instructions carefully, and make sure you have the access code for the retractable bollards. I turned the wrong way when we were leaving and found myself on the wrong side of a set of posts separating pedestrians from cars. It needed a helpful taxi driver (yes, this is a genuine review!) to guide me out to the main road.
The check-in staff – we had the same lady checking-in and –out but sadly I did not note her name – was extremely good, a pleasant change from her colleague on the phone when we need help trying to get into the pedestrian zone.
There were good supplies of tea and coffee in the room but the cleaning service was a little erratic in minor ways. The bath was a little high but strong enough to sit on and swivel. Bizarrely, there was a plastic sheet between the ordinary sheet and mattress protector. After a relatively sleepless, hot night of squeaking with every turn, we found it could easily be removed.
Restaurant tip: l’Entrecôte opposite the hotel has one dish of steak and chips but that description does not remotely do it justice. Try it (it is also open on Sunday but you may queue unless you are early or have booked).
Tourism tip – don’t just go to castle and old town, the other direction looked worth a stroll, though we only saw it from our convoluted departure route.

Lovely hotel in the heart of the city

Great hotel but their free wifi isn't really free. We were able to connect with iPhones and iPads in our room but not with our laptops. You can only use your laptop with the lobby wifi or at their business center where you have to pay a fee to sit. If you plan to work in your room this is not the hotel for you.

Otherwise we had a great experience and really enjoyed our stay.

Good no frills well located hotel

This hotel is very central - easy walking to shops, restaurants and main attractions. The lobby area is spacious and well- maintained and all staff were helpful and courteous. The room was quiet and comfortable and had coffee/ tea making facilities, which I hadn't expected in France. My one quibble with the room was the positioning of the only mirror which was in the darkest, narrowest part of the room, right by an inner door - quite unnecessary as there was plenty of other wall space. No fancy toiletries but a perfectly adequate supply of shower gel. Great shower, fast and hot. We didn't eat in the hotel at all so I can't comment on the breakfast. It would be good if they warned guests that access to the hotel is through a restricted zone and you need a password to get through a barrier. I had to leave my husband in the car in a potentially hazardous position to rush up the street to the hotel to get the password. This would be much more difficult for someone travelling alone by car.

We thought Nantes was a lovely small city, easy to get to grips with and we enjoyed our stay

GREAT EXCEPT FOR PARKING ISSUE

Our stay in Nantes was lovely, the hotel was very nice as right in the city centre but wish we had been told about the hotel's parking problem as we might then have chosen another one nearby. You cannot get to the hotel with your car without a code number to put into several places where there are bollards sticking up in the middle of the streets to stop you going through, it was a nightmare driving around for an hour before we were told about the code which the hotel did give us on enquiring.

I found the Mercure Nantes Grand Central Hotel a lovely spot for a weekend break in Nantes. The location was excellent with the tram and bus service just around the corner. Staff at reception were pleasant and efficient both for check in and check out. The breakfast was a lovely surprise with a great range and selection of fresh fruit, breads, juices as well as hot fresh eggs and bacon - all delicious. I would highly recommend this hotel as a place to stay in. Nantes and I will be back.

Great central location and very kind staff

I cannot praise this hotel enough for how accommodating they are for children. From the receptionist who washed up and sterilised our bottles, to the cleaners who cleaned our room incredibly quietly to avoid waking the baby, we felt very relaxed in this hotel.

The hotel has the perfect location for a holiday in Nantes. I arrived by train and walked to the hotel, which took about 15 minutes but it was straight west on the main road and easy to find. On departure I took the navette shuttle to the airport which departed from a stop just down the block from the hotel. More importantly, the hotel is in the middle of everything you would want to see: Place Royale and the St. Nicholas church just around the block, tons of shopping nearby, a short walk to the Chateau and all of the other sights.My room was very comfortable and the breakfast was amazing, with very courteous and efficient staff. I was forced to stay an extra night due to an air traffic controllers' strike and the hotel was able to accommodate me, which was very much appreciated at a stressful time. My only slightly negative comment would be the unnecessary replacing of all of the toiletries every day.

Short stay in Nantes

This hotel is conveniently located in the downtown area of Nantes. It is close to tourist sites, shopping, public transportation, and restaurants, including the popular L' Entrecote. Coming from the US, we wondered why the beds did not have a top sheet, only the comforter; A top sheet would be more sanitary, unless the comforter is washed after each guest. However, this was one of the few hotels we looked at in Nantes that offered twin beds.

Great Location

The location was great, the staff welcoming, and the hotel itself was clean and recently renovated. But bring earplugs, its very loud in town at night, every night, and we needed earplugs to get some sleep.

Central location, and very comfortable

Efficient and friendly staff, and comfortable rooms made our stay very enjoyable. We thought the price of the breakfast was expensive although the quality was superb. The location was very central and away from the busy roads, but the youths of Nantes were extremely noisy in the streets close by until 4am which meant that to sleep all windows had to be tightly closed.
