Thoroughly enjoyed my stay and staff were both friendly and helpful. Reception staff helped me find how to get tram into centre of Frankfurt and where to go there in order to see as much as possible in one day.
Hotel itself was spotless as was my room.Breakfast was self service but very good.
Area around hotel was nice and I as a older female had no anxiety walking at night on my own.

Hotel is good, I stayed not first time here and will stay in the future. Great breakfast, good location and the room (nothing luxury, like a good 3* hotel). This time I needed to print 6 pages, and I discovered that should pay for it. I suppose this basic service must be free in such an expensive hotel, of course we don't speak about hundreds of pages. Location is good too

The staff were great! My room was exactly as advertised - no frills. I needed an affordable room with two twin beds on short notice. This is exactly what I received. What was above and beyond was the complimentary breakfast every morning - it was quite delicious!! The negative was that the location is only close to the zoo. Otherwise, all other attractions and fine dining were not conveniently close.

A pleasant stay

This is a good location within easy walking distance to public transportation that can take you anywhere. The underground parking is convenient once you figure it out. The room we stayed in was quiet if just a little bit cramped. However what made the stay special was the friendly desk manager. A tall gentleman he was friendly and helpful and made the stay extra pleasant.

Property is a liile out of the way as it was about a mile and a half from the Opera House. However, I was able to easily walk there. Christmas Markets were in full swing, which was great. Area felt very safe.

Room was clean and was very quiet. Breakfast was great, except for the day the coffee machine wasn't working.

The little Italian restaurant nearby (mostly a take away place) had excellent food.

Taxi was a little pricey to get there from the train station. I used Bolt on the way back, which was much more reasonable.

The room was comfortable and clean and seemed to be newly renovated. There was a large window to open to a park like area with a beautiful sunset and birdsongs. We didn’t have the breakfast which was 16euros. It was a few minute walk to the #14 team which goes to downtown and the train station.

Property feels dated.
It is advertised that they have Steam and Sauna which is why we selected this hotel but both we not operational.
The breakfast was below average and were not accommodating to vegan/vegetarian requests saying \"We are a German hotel and this is all we have\".
We had to regularly request for soap, tissues etc. because it was not properly stocked in the room during daily housekeeping.
Location is average.
Check-in and Check-out was quick.

Delightful find in Frankfurt

The Alexander bills itself as a fine small hotel in the city and it is just that. Nice attention to design. Quite comfortable and very good value. Nice breakfast! Friendly and courteous staff. Lovely to hear the birds in the nearby zoo in the morning. Close to a tram line into center city. Highly recommended.

I think this was my fourth or fifth stay at Hotel Alexander where I spent 6 nights while in Frankfurt. The hotel is in a very convenient location, clean, quiet, great breakfast and excellent coffee and while I didn't use it, there is an exercise room and sauna in the basement. (Only suggestion I can make to improve the breakfast buffet would be to not boil the eggs so long....they are too hard) Everything is really very pleasant and I will be back again on my next stay in Frankfurt.

I spent 2 nights there, the staffs were kind , the breakfast was good , and the area was near tube station and zoo. But the sofa in the room wasn’t comfortable. At night the room was vey dark because few of lights didn t work, when I ask the reception, they said we have to wait until tomorrow.
The tv channels were not international and nothing for kids to entertain. No telephone number provided to call reception , kitchen or .... and every time you need , you have to go downstairs by yourself.

We were given rooms on a floor where the air conditioning was not working (we had two rooms) and then we went back down and asked if we can get other rooms, they said sure. It was an attempt to pass off the \"bad\" rooms to us, I asked if he knew before he gave us the room keys, he said yes...we were not impressed.
Breakfast was good, location is excellent because it is on a quiet street. The hotel has the 1980s feel to it but very clean.

Well-placed, clean, quiet, and convenient. Lots of restaurants within a 5-minute walk. The only (minor) disappointment was that there is no bar in the hotel, but there are plenty very close to the hotel. Overlooks and very convenient to the Frankfurt Zoo (hence, the name), one of Frankfurt’s best attractions. Overall, a great, well-priced place to stay.

Pros:
Next to the zoo and 20 min walk to the shopping malls. Some restaurants around. Very warm and clean rooms. Towels changed every day. Very nice sauna and steam bath. Decent breakfast (for Europe). Huge bed even for 2 people.

Cons:
Really very few restaurants around. Almost no kiosks to buy and small items. No restaurant or bar or room service inside. So great only if you need only the room to stay. Otherwise no chances to have any meal or drink other than for breakfast. Breakfast is the same every single day. There is literally nothing to do in the hotel other than to sleep there. Absolutely uncomfortable mattresses to sleep on and plastic pillows. Had backpain 2 nights after we checked in.

Horrible - when I confronted the hotel - I got told they are aware of it but have not scheduled repairs - but you still rent it out to full price ?! and most of it seams cleaning issues - breakfast was also not worth it . When I stayed 5 years ago we had no issues - this was disaster not going to stay here again ! Not worth the stars or price

I had a very nice and comfy stay at this hotel. Room was clean and spacious. Bed was comfortable. Bathroom was clean and everything was in order. Wifi/Internet was strong and worked fine. Zoo metro station is about 10-15 minutes walk, or you can take light rail tram a block away. Breakfast buffet was wonderful and had lots of variety. I would definitely go back if I visit Frankfurt again.

Grand hotel, area questionable. Parking........!??

Needed a central hotel and found the Alexander am zoo perfect, the room was spacious, comfortable, clean and suited our family of four. However, parking was either a duplex car park located under the hotel or one space at the rear of the hotel or else park on the street. The street was not an option as it didn't look at all safe. The car parking was charged at 16 euros a night. I decided to park at the rear of the hotel but was still charged for the single parking space next to a rubbish skip! That said the facilities were really good and breakfast was outstanding starting at 6am finishing at 10am. Perfect for the early start or lazy morning. All great if you didn't have a car.

Quiet, local, out of the tourist area

I chose this hotel because it was one of the few at its price point with over 4 stars, and it was not near the Hauptbahnhof. I had a negative impression of the Hauptbahnhof surroundings from a few years ago, though it's improved a bit since that time. Still, I am very glad we booked this hotel and would definitely book again. It is definitely quiet and peaceful - a great way to end the day away from the touristy stuff and crowds. There are U Bahn stations close by, but we used the DB Call-A-Bikes, which are plentiful and cheap, and that was a wonderful way to get anywhere we wished. The hotel staff will help you with it. This hotel is near the Main River, very close to a world class skatepark (for the kids), two blocks away from a delightful local restaurant/shopping row, and close enough to Bornheim area's more typical biergartens. Two stops on the U Bahn take you to the Old Town area.

Very quiet and clean hotel with efficient staff

The hotel was on a quiet side street, parking was easy to find. The staff were not what I would call friendly, but were very efficient and answered every question I had. The room was beautiful and like new. This hotel is next to the zoo, and if we had an extra day we would have really enjoyed walking across the street to it. If you are going to Frankfurt for the zoo, this is the right hotel for you. We walked around the corner to a little Chinese hole in the wall restaurant. It was amazing good, and they spoke English.

We stayed at the Alexander Hotel Am Zoo during a long lay-over in Frankfurt, and found it to be very comfortable, with an excellent staff. The room was very nice, and the complementary breakfast was excellent. Overall I would definitely stay there again.

This hotel is comfortable and located just outside the city center in a quiet neighborhood. It was easy to find parking in city center and enjoy good restaurants, culture and many churches.

Quiet neighborhood, wonderful breakfasts

I stayed four nights. The hotel is clean and within walking distance of the center of everything, the room is small but adequate, the breakfast is excellent, the sauna very nice, and the neighborhood is quiet and residential.

Great Breakfast Buffet

Best features: Breakfast, Room size, Safe neighborhood, In-room hot pot to make coffee, Front Desk Staff very helpful in calling Taxi and recommending restaurants.
Odd things: no washcloths. 2 separate twin size sheet/blanket sets for queen size bed.

Good Hotel but would warn others before recommendi

Would have a preferred to see restaurant or small cafe open full day not just breakfast. We didnot expect to find that only food served is breakfast. Ellen at reception was very helpful.

Family getaway in Europe!

Separate bedroom and living area with small kitchenette is a perfect solution for families with small kids. Parents can still watch tv/read a book etc while kids are sleeping undisturbed. Breakfast is perfect! Food delicious!

Good choice!

They have a great breakfast selection. The hotel is in a quiet road and the property is well maintained. Very nice hotel and I will stay there again when next in Bornheim. They seemed to be wasting money on heating because the room was generally too warm and I had to open the window which wastes a lot of energy.
The only other negative was their internet is very SLOW.

Don't trust the pictures on the website

- the breakfast buffet does not look at all like what is pictured on the website
- I was not greeted when I entered the breakfast room
- receptionist not always visible
- no express check-out
- bathrobe and slippers apparently need to be requested at reception provided one uses the sauna, which is only available upon a 30 minute notice
- very small room
- combined sink / shelf made up of a basic material
- no product sample in the bathroom
- the hand soap comes out of a basic manual plastic dispenser (one needs to press it)
- ditto for the body soap - shampoo
- tissues located in a box below the sink; every time one washes ones hands, one leans on the next tissue
- fake rose in the bathroom
- hand towels hanged too low
- the attach to hang the bath towel is a basic portable one behind the door
- a single bath towel, which I assume was due to my being on my own
- the inconveniently located tray with mugs and glasses includes two glasses of different sizes
- one of the instant coffee doses was empty
- stained letterhead paper
- nice pen
- the light in the entrance was blinking
- no suitcase stand
- there were two pillows of different sizes in the bed, I assume because of the single occupancy, but it was depressing
- floor lamp not controlled by a general switch
- walls decorated

- the desk, all along the window, becomes very narrow once the curtains are closed
