Inexpensive option close to the Zeil

The hotel is in a pretty convenient place for getting places, as it’s pretty close to a transit stop. No A/C in my room and the road noise was too loud to keep the window open, but did get a small (though also loud) floor fan when I asked.

This hotel has small but clean rooms and is in a good location. It's an easy walk to the Innenstadt area and the river (approx. 25-30 minutes), and about 10-15 minutes walk to the Merianplatz area with cafes and restaurants. There's a Rewe supermarket around the corner to get supplies and there are 2 U-stations also within walking distance. Friendly staff. It's a little small for families but perfect for business/solo travelers and couples.Would stay here again.

A good three star hotel

First looks are not impressive, the Mercator is the ugliest building in its street, but do not be put off. The hotel is in a quiet area, with only a little noise from the odd passing car, so light sleepers will appreciate. Very much a three star hotel with little pretension to be anything else, but unlike many 4 star hotels, it has a homely feel. Very convenient for the charming and equally homely Berger Strasse area and not too far from City centre, which is walkable for anyone who is fit.

Easy walk from tram #12 or even Konstablerwache Station if you wanted.
The reception staff was able to help us in English, the rooms are clean and have ample room. There is a really good restaurant across the street for pizza and a drink. Highly recommend that too. Overall, a great stay with easy access to the entire city.

Hotel was fine, not the most modern, but no problem. Quite a nice area. Easy enough to walk to the city centre. A couple of restaurants within a minutes walk also. There was a tram and a tube stop about 2 mins walk also. We are a family of 3, there wasn't that much space in ouf room, but if wasn't a problem. We would stay again.

hidden residential area gem near city center

this place was exceeded my expectations with the affordable price we paid, the friendly, helpful staff, and a location that was within walking distance to the city center yet out of the way and in a completely safe and pretty neighborhood, where Frankfurt residents actually live. we were able to find some hidden gems, authentic German restaurants and beer gardens, and feel like we were a part of the actual city rather than tourists coming to see some main attractions. the staff helped us with anything we needed and were always smiling and easy to talk with. we loved it!! rooms were also good-sized with nice, big windows and really comfortable beds. absolutely recommend!

Fantastic services and condition!

I stayed here for 2 nights and absolutely loved it. Staff were so helpful and friendly. Even though I was a solo traveller, my room had 3 beds, was large and comfortable - great if I wanted friends to stay over. Bathroom was in top condition. Internet was great. Only downside was that the front desk wasn’t open at 7am as specified on the day I wanted to check out early. But the kitchen staff happily assisted me and took my key off me.

This was a very clean place with really friendly staff in a very quiet neighborhood, yet near to the train and downtown. Breakfast was great - very convenient and lots of variety. We would recommend it to anyone.

Overall, disappointing

Hotel was somewhat hard to find, and when we did, there was absolutely no place to park while checking in. We did manage to get a parking place at the hotel only by sheer luck, one of only three offered by the hotel and the parking area was not what I would call \"secure\". Hotel lobby was clean and presentable, and staff was helpful and friendly. Our room, however, was a BIG disappointment. Not at all what was shown in the website pictures...not even close. And honestly, the room was in dire need of refurbishment: there was water damage on the wood floor near the bathroom, and also on the bathroom door, which was basically ruined and peeling near the floor. The walls could have used a coat of paint, or total overhaul. The hotel was farther from the city center than I had anticipated, which was my fault, I should have checked the map more closely; however, for the price they are charging for rooms, this hotel should have been much closer to the city center or much cleaner and well kept.

Easy walk to city centre

Stayed 2 nights in a triple room with our 3 yr old and 5 month old. Arrived early (11am) but were still allowed to check-in and get our room. Cot was put up ready for us on our return later. Small but perfectly serviceable room. Short walk to main shopping district so ideal for Christmas markets.

Great value, great location, a bit noisy

Hotel Mercador offered a reasonably-priced room in an excellent location. In a short 15 minute walk, we found ourselves in the heart of Frankfurt, filled with cafés, shops, and many of the popular sights. However, guests may hear noise from other guest's doors opening and closing throughout the hotel, and noises from the street (cars, garbage collection) easily creep through the walls.

Centrally located but NOT 3 star!

The hotel was priced highly as the Trade Fair was on, in the week we visited. The hotel is not a 3 star establishment. Whilst the communal areas were okay, as was the breakfast which was fine for the amount which we paid extra per person, the room we had was small for 3 people, had no carpets and was quite cold. Under the beds had not been cleaned very well either. The towels were very small and threadbare, so not absorbent at all, and the shower curtain was not clean. We also had to ask for extra towels as there were not enough for 3 people.

Good hotel, set in a quiet yet central location

Even though the hotel is located away from the action, it is fairly easy and quick to reach the more desirable areas of Frankfurt. That makes it a good choice, for it is comfortable and more reasonably priced.
Breakfast is very good, recommended extra.
Wi-fi internet is a bit complicated system, you must get a ticket from the front office every day and it expires frequently.

Clean and comfortable hotel

Stayed here for 3 nights during October 20015. The hotel looked a bit tatty from the outside, but we were pleasantly surprised when we entered. check in was quick and all the staff we met were very friendly and helpful. Our breakfast was not included in the price but we did pay extra for breakfast which was very good value, buffet style help yourself continental breakfast. The room we booked was a twin, and we had a double bed and a single. The ensuite room was very clean and tidy and equipped with a hairdryer, fan and mini ironing board, but no kettle.

Affordable Option in Quiet Area

I booked a number of rooms for family for a couple of days. The reception was helpful, especially in requesting taxis to the airport and understanding what was around the immediate area. The rooms were clean and comfortable. My family really like the area. They appreciated that there was a Rewe supermarket nearby as they needed to prepare their own breakfast due to dietary constraints. The price was very affordable and perfect if you just needed a place to sleep. Our only complaint was that the cleaning staff was very rude. When I came to pick up my family I called for the elevator and when I opened the door a cleaning staff member was quite upset that I wanted to use the elevator to get to family's room 3 floors up. I spoke to my other family members and their only complaint was the attitude of the cleaning staff. Other than that, it was a good place to stay.

Good location (near to market place and train stations - walk to the stations is pretty good as well with a park in between), friendly staff and nice rooms. There is no Airconditioner in the hotel so during summers it can be pretty warm. However rooms do have electrical fans. Overall good value for money and recommended

This hotel is in a fairly good position for visiting the Messe. If the management spent a little on improving the lighting in the rooms, it would make a lot of difference. The lighting provided is awfull, dull and makes it difficult to even read a newspaper.
The breakfast was not good and again would not cost a lot to improve, even charging a little more would be acceptable.
We were staying for business at the Messe and so the hotel rates increase for the period but the level of comfort and quality of service does not alter.
I would recommend this hotel if it made more of an effort.

Comfortable small hotel less than 10 mins walk from Konstablerwache S/U Bahn with a convenient tram stop nearby. Great area for restaurants and shopping(recommend Greek Ariston)and felt safe to walk after dark. Friendly and helpful staff particularly afternoon/evening and good breakfast buffet that you pay for if you have it. Only small negative is hot water in my shower ran very slowly. No real amenities in the hotel but a drinks vending machine in the lobby. Wifi was faultless and free. I would recommend it if you are not planning on spending a long time in your room.

10 minutes walk to station n taxies waiting in the cab rank did not want to fetch us to hotel , 1 km away!

No eateries nearby except an italian restaurant. However there is a nearby retail food outlet Reve round the corner

Pleasant stay in a real neighbourhood

A very pleasant hotel located in an actual neighbourhood, but still very close to the U5 for transit. It is within easy walking distance to the Deutsche Nationalbibliothek. Good, varied breakfast. Although there is no airconditioning, it was not very hot and the big windows open to allow air to circulate. Wifi worked well.

Early checkout is a nice feature since I needed to leave at 6AM to catch an early flight, was told by receptionist to just leave the key in your room and close the door and no need to see anyone in the lobby since the lobby is open only from 7AM till 11PM.

No complaints, room had free and speedy internet, everything was spotlessly clean, room is modern.
Receptionist spoke good English which was good since I don't speak German.

Just a warning for those with a vehicle. Parking rate at hotel is reasonable and likely your only choice. There is very limited parking in that neighborhood since the parking is restricted to residents with permits only and there is a very limited and very inconvenient window where you can shortly park your car free of charge. Given that the hotel is next door to the police station, you probably don't want to risk parking outside of the free permitted hours to non-residents with all the police cars parked around the hotel.

Quaint European hotel with immaculate rooms

This charming small hotel is provides a comfortable and sparkling clean room, with excellent wifi quality, pristine linens, and a cold fridge. The large windows open and the area is quiet and charming. You are about 10 minutes walk to Zeil shopping area. I arrived from the airport via underground S9 + one stop on the tram + a short 8 minute walk up the quiet road, with my luggage in tow. While not located \"in the centre of everything', this hotel is not difficult to get to and it has many advantages, including affordability, comfort, and style. I would have loved to try the breakfast but I was not feeling well. There's a vending machine for cold beverages next to the front desk. Other hotel guests who I spotted appeared to be foreign young people of about university age.
I would go back here again, and I hope next time I am healthy enough to go to small bar conveniently located directly next door, for some authentic German beer and food.

My friends and I really just needed a place to sleep for the night and this hotel did the trick with even more. We had a triple room booked. The room had three single beds and was quite small. The room and hotel was clean. A great hotel if you just need a place to sleep at night. There is little space for relaxing in the room. Location is very good to the city centre. No air conditioning but the windows were very large and they opened all the way.

Good value!

Front desk staff were only so-so, but the location was close enough to the old town without being too close to the noise. We didn't bother with the breakfast, but found a great place near the shopping area we loved. Overall, a good value. We loved the Italian restaurant next door - as good as many of the places we visited in Italy - plus it was reasonably priced and had a nice neighborhood feel.

we were there in mid-June and it was so hot!
the room didn't have air-conditioning but had a fan. (some room didn't even have a fan in their room) we were struggling while we were staying in the room ( days and nights). the reception closed at night and they locked the reception area that had drink machine. so i would recommended to buy drinks beforehand. most staff couldn't speak English well.
however, apart from these issues that I brought up. everything else was fine!
the walking distance from hotel to the city centre (Hauptwache or konstablewache), we didn't need to spend much money on transportation.

Will not recommend or return

Although the hotel was located centrally with just a walk away from Konstablerwache station & Zeil.......I was not very happy with a few things..........First the staff was very unfriendly......wouldn't smile at all.& when I say at all, I really mean AT ALL!!! It didn't appear very welcoming to me at least ....neither would they smile at my first incoming (check in) nor any other time of the day......felt very un-welcomed!!! Secondly, there were just repeat JUST no instructions within the room...no instructions about operating TV, or the room heater.......forget about that..most importantly the telephone did NOT mention the simplest thing....what numbers to dial for reception or other things!! That was the most funniest thing! I wouldn't recommend or return to this hotel ever again!

The hotel was easy to find with the GPS in the car and hotel parking was a big plus. It's an easy walk to all the central major sites in Frankfurt and it was easy to find good restaurants close by for both breakfast and dinner with many ethnic choices other than German. 5/F is just so so

This hotel is 20 mins taxi ride from the train station- walk 10 mins to the closest metro- the historical center is easy to walk around in an hour and get a day pass for metro if you wish. The hotel offered us 5/F and the shower is really inconvenient.. I need to knee down to get my hair wash, and it does not have a shower door so the water easier flood out. Overall, the bed is too soft but the pillow is alright. Have a fan and heat in room. Breakfast 8 EURO is too expensive but there's not much around so it's more convenient for us to eat there. Basic fruit, yogurt, bread, cereal, boiled egg etc..

It was good.

Originally we were to arrive around 10am but due to a flight change we showed up at 7am. Very easy to get to from FRA airport. Take the S8 or S9 Konstablerwache to the U5. You can actually walk from Konstablerwache as well. Cost from FRA to Konstablerwache is under 5 euros. Hotel had an Orange lit sign and stands out once you were on the street. Front Desk opens from 7am to about 11ish (or until last guest checksin) and associates spoke both German and English. Their service was great. Room was clean. Hotel is a walk up, we were on the 4th floor so it was a hike. Walls and floor made of hard marterials like concrete...sound is very reflective within the hotel, however, it was on a very quiet street so no street noise. We asked Front Desk to recommend a place to eat and was directed to a specific eatery and also a nearby street with about 50 places to eat or else Konstablerwache has decent eateries. Free Wifi was helpful as well, Front Desk has a security code so remember to ask for it at checkin to avoid walking back down the stairs. They offer a Breakfast for 8 euros, and it is worth it if you are a big eater: Two types of Eggs, meats cheeses, cereal, breads, coffee, milk, OJ, Tea.

Nice, Small Hotel for short stay

We had a triple room for us and our daughter (6). It was quite small. The hotel was within walking distance from the underground, but also really close to walk to a lot of the attractions (we walked to the Zoo and to Ziel street- the shopping area).
We went over New Years and were unaware that all stores would close early on New Years Eve, so finding food in the area was a little difficult.

This is a very basic hotel, which is clean but would benefit from things like carpets and curtains in the rooms. Furniture is old style, radiators original, decor old fashioned, and lift only goes to the fourth floor out of the five. Everything works and bed comfortable, but not modern standard.

Located in a quiet residential area, very close to public transport (<5 min.) and the main restaurant/shopping district (10-15 min. walking), this hotel has a lot of promise, but falls short in several key areas. On the plus side, fast free internet and a fridge in the room were extremely handy, the bed was comfortable (pillow a bit thin) and a fan kept the late summer warmth under control. However, the front desk staff were uniformly brusque and disinterested, there was no kettle/coffee/tea in the room, room service arrived very early (8.30-8.45) and breakfast was €8.

We stated in our reservation that we are 2 adults+2 kids and got a triple room with 1 twin bed and 1 small bed... there were even only 3 pillows and 3 towels ... And when we asked the receptionist about that, she was very unpleasant and said that this is what they have. She also couldn't give information about where to park and was very unfriendly.

Affordable and good

This was simply the best value-for-money hotel I've stayed in for a while. Perhaps I was a bit more fortunate by having a room at the end of the corridor (there are some next to the stairs), but it was quiet, comfortable, and clean - as well as close to the city; even Sachsenhausen is within walking distance (20 minutes). And it's got wifi. I didn't have breakfast as it was a bit expensive.

Good hotel - but let down by lack of air condition

Overall a good stay, close to centre for shopping and the main sights. Late check in was allowed by password and key drop off, which was a good way to allow us our post midnight arrival. It was hot in Frankfurt and the room was way too hot, even with windows open and fan on it became uncomfortable to sleep, due to the heat. Air conditioning is a must !

Nice stay. Room was clean and large enough for two. Quiet neighbourhood. Lady at the front desk was less than enthusiastic but that's not a big deal. Close to tram system. We only stayed for one night as we had to catch a flight the next day but, we would stay there again for sure.

Do not accept room on 5th floor!

This hotel is not very close to public transportation. The front desk person was friendly at check-in. The desk is not open 24 hours, so be careful if you're arriving late. Wi-fi is free and very fast!
The room we were given was on the 5th floor. The elevator goes only to the 4th floor, then you have to walk up an additional flight of stairs. This was no big deal. BUT, being on the 5th floor meant a slanted, low ceiling. In the actual bedroom, again, no big deal. But the tub/shower was under a slanted portion of the roof and only about 3 feet high. That meant we could not stand up at all, even to use the shower as a handheld (see photo below of the ridiculous height of ceiling in shower). We should have gone back down to reception and insisted on moving to a different room, but after just getting off the flight from San Francisco, I was too tired at that point. My mistake, because it made for a very uncomfortable stay!

Some of the staff were not as polite or helpful as they could have been but overall the hotel offered excellent value for money. Good area and close to City Centre. Close to U Bahn too (but it is a tram in this part of town)

The Hotel was located in an excellent residential area with a fantastic park nearby for children, a pizzeria on your doorstep, yet only a 4 minute walk to tram, then 2 minutess on train to popular Konstablewache or a further few minuteus to the main Hauptbahnhof train station. We did not get breakfast so cannot comment however the dining area looked clean and was a large room. The Hotel offered several brochures and information for its customers. The one big dissappointment for us was that the room was very small (no air conditioning, just a fan) and although I had booked a triple room, in our opinion it was no larger than a single/double room. It was very small (the smallest room I have ever stayed in) and my husband and I had to turn sideways when passing at the end of the bed!! However it was okay I suppose as we headed out early and returned late and that is the only reason it was maneagable with our children. Hotel was clean and cleaning staff very nice. I asked lady on reception if they had any bigger rooms and she replied No, they were all the same size which obviously implied a double is the same size as a triple! Anyway the holiday itself was brilliant and apart from size of room, I would recommend this hotel for its great location, cleaniness and value for money.

Mercator Hotel, Frankfurt

Basic hotel, doesnt look great from the outside (quite dated) but is very clean and a bit more modernized inside. Rooms are quite basic and small but were kept very clean - fresh towels provided and rooms cleaned every day by the staff.

We went for a lads city break away (5 people across 2 rooms) and the hotel was ideal for our needs. Very close to the city centre and all the main attractions (pleasant 20 minute walk) so was exactly what we were looking for considering how little time we spent in the hotel.

Basic but clean and friendly / helpful enough staff. We didnt take up the breakfast option and preferred to go out, although the restaurant didnt look great and was quite dated. You also have to pay extra for breakfast.

This hotel is apparently a former (typical 1960's style German) apartment building in which apartments were turned into hotel rooms. This peculiarity is already a good reason to stay there. Plus, the rooms are clean, the staff is friendly, the location is convenient (walking distance to Zeil), the neighborhood is very safe (we had lived nearby for two years, so I know what I am talking about). Overall, the hotel is not luxurious, but very good for the money.

City Hotel Mercator in Frankfurt, Germany - a nice

I was visiting Germany for a combination of business trip and a mini vacation. I was being cost conscious, so looked for a good value.

The hotel was clean and comfortable. It is in walking distance to the rail system, so it was convenient to all of Frankfurt.

It was what I was expecting. It is a good value.

Great place to stay in central Frankfurt.

A very nice hotel, located off of the U5 tram line and is only two stops from the Alt Stadt, and the shopping district. The hotel can also be reached from the airport by taking the S9 subway and connecting to the U5 line at the Konstablewacht transfer station which is only one stop away from the Musterschule stop which is only 2 short blocks from the hotel.
The hotel is a great value, clean, and updated. Bathrooms are in suite. Four stories, with a small elevator. Breakfast not included, and we didn't partake as they are local groceries nearby, and the room has a small fridge.
We will stay here again any time we are in Frankfurt!

Hotel is about 10 min walking distance from the city and is close to bus and train stations. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. It's not a fancy place, but our room was clean and quiet - everything we needed. They also have complimentary internet. Would definitely stay there again!
