We had a great 5 night stay. First, hats off to Mayra who helped us with our room and made it a great visit. Second to Ahmed who was the bartender in the hotel lobby.
our room was quiet, centrally located and great access to all the subway lines. we ended up watching a lot of the World cup late at night at the hotel bar. As a former NYer, I appreciated the location to theaters, Penn Station and walkability factor. thank you

Ideal location for Manhattan adventures, both uptown and downtown. Tucked away on a quiet street yet just a half-block from 5th and 6th Avenues with quick accessibility to bus and subway options. Room was generously sized and comfortable. Staff were always kind and helpful. Will definitely come back next time we make it to the city, thanks!

Lovely hotel in a great location, walkable to all the usual sights and very close to Penn station if travelling further. Rooms were nice and clean and fairly spacious, the bed was very comfortable too. Bathroom was spacious with a powerful shower over bath. We even had a view from our window which is good for NYC! Their bar was also great for a pre or post dinner drink. Didn't get time to try the restaurant though.
Had a couple of small issues on arrival which their maintenance guy sorted straight away. The only other issue I had was a duplicate room charge which unfortunately took a few days to sort but once I found the right person to deal with this it was all sorted. Would definitely return here again.

Staff of The Life Hotel were really friendly, very accommodating ; shout out to Rick, Jackson, Emanie and Gene!! They coordinated our logistics on the day of our arrival and checkout (like keeping our luggage in secure storage, offered a flat rate taxi to the airport).
The room was impressive 1800s vibe, reminded me of my grandma's home.
However the bathroom has some molds on some corners of the sink. I think an exhaust would help lessen that. Nevertheless, the whole stay was a pleasant experience and would luv to go back next time.
And if you luv Korean stuff, this hotel is in the midst of Korea Town, and that is a treat!

Unfortunately, my experience at this hotel was disappointing, and I would not choose to stay here again.

From the moment I arrived, the front desk staff came across as cold and unwelcoming. I had requested an early check-in, but no effort was made to accommodate the request. The initial room I was assigned on the first floor had no window and felt dark and claustrophobic. To make matters worse, the air conditioning unit was extremely loud—comparable to a jet engine. While I was eventually moved to another room, the overall experience did not improve significantly.

The cleanliness and condition of the property were also concerning. There was hair in the bathroom upon arrival, and the elevators were exceptionally slow and very small, making getting around the hotel frustrating. Overall, the hotel fell well below expectations in terms of service, comfort, and attention to detail.

The cleaning staff was good, but the room needed some updating. Cracked sink, stained sofa and worn out duct covers. There are only two old elevators-which add to the charm of the place—but are just an inconvenience when trying to get up and down during high traffic hours. Currently, most hotels have electric keys that also serve as a security feature for the main entrance and elevators, not here. You have the room key and anyone who comes in to the restaurant or bar can just get on the elevator and go up to the rooms.

Room was spacious and bright but be wary about the lack of windows/natural light. My room had what appeared to be shutters but had a button to shut out any views and was nearby the kitchen which was a bit noisy at times. Also, the fan/AC works well but is incredibly noisy but the room itself was quiet enough albeit for some noisy guests nearby.

Room felt clean enough and appreciated being able to request a mini fridge, hot water kettle, AND slippers!

Location is great if you're looking to stay around K-Town but not on the main busy street and is in the middle of everything else!

I stayed in the Writer’s Loft at Life Hotel New York and unfortunately I would never stay here again. In my opinion, the room was absolutely not worth the price.

The biggest issue was cleanliness and maintenance. The floors were so dirty that walking around barefoot literally turned the bottoms of my feet black. My shower also started leaking through the wall during my stay, which was extremely concerning and made the room feel poorly maintained overall.

On top of that, I ended up dealing with severe sinus congestion while staying there. I can’t say for certain what caused it, but the room felt dusty and unclean, and it honestly made me wonder if there could have been mold, old dust buildup, or harsh cleaning chemicals/pesticides affecting the air quality.

The concept and location may appeal to some travelers, but based on my experience, I personally do not think this hotel lives up to its pricing or expectations. I would not return or recommend staying here.

Great location, close but out of the dense tourist areas on quieter street (by NYC standards). Rooms are small (normal NYC standard) Bathroom good size. Storage was limited to small closet, no drawers/shelving for clothing. Bench in the bathroom was only storage but worked well. Beds were one of the most comfortable hotel bed ever! No central air, window unit worked great, and I kinda like the noise for sleeping. Loved all the details in the common areas. Only slight complaint, is the daily service charge. It includes wifi, use of the gym and coffee. The coffee was not self-serve, one voucher/cup a day. They only give you one voucher per person each day so have to stop at desk each day. Ended up not really mattering because the service doesn't start till 7:15, we were gone before on 2 of our days. Also the women serving was never there and rude when she was there. Wish they would just do a self-serve large carafe of coffee.

Big bummer that there isn't coffee in the room. Not sure why a hotel at this status wouldn't have it. They gave free coffee coupon cards to use down in the bar, but i stayed 4 nights and only received two. The bed overwhelmed the standard room. It would have been a bit tight for two people to share- But, overall it was a nice stay. Very quiet room on 6th floor, despite bar, restaurant and club on lower levels. Great location.

Hotel is run down. Sticky floors. Bad lighting everywhere. No windows in the room. Everything in the room felt dusty and dirty. The closet hadn’t been painted in years. Barely any room to maneuver in a king room. Elevators are slow and dark and provide no confidence and the two lifts operate on different buttons so you have to call both elevators.

For Expedia, I’d make it more direct and review-friendly:

Our stay was okay overall, but the cleanliness and attention to detail did not meet expectations for the price, especially with an upgraded room. The room looked clean at first glance, but we noticed a hair on the shower wall, a stale smell in the room, towels that did not feel hotel-fresh, and dust/black particles in the A/C unit.

Housekeeping also felt inconsistent. The hand soap was not replaced during our four-night stay, and we ran out of shower gel on the last day. We also requested a towel on our final day and waited at least an hour before leaving the room.

Overall, the hotel was fine, but we expected a more polished and elevated experience.

The location of the hotel was good and it was easy to get around. However, the building is old and a bit worn out. You hear the other rooms and the doors don’t close properly so you need to make sure you pull the door shut to your room. The room was not very clean, we found back hair on our fresh towels everyday and hairs on the bedsheets. The floors as well haven’t been cleaned properly in a long time.
Staff were very nonchalant and didn’t seem to be very organized. Wouldn’t recommend this place when there’s so many other options in the city.

This hotel is located in the building that homed the former life magazine. The room we had looked like the images online. We felt like we were in a European boutique hotel. This was a staycation for a friend’s birthday. Tge staff was very friendly and the bar had excellent cocktails and service. The hidden lounge was a fun surprise. Would recommend it.

Front desk staff wasn’t the friendliest, but the manager was super nice and helpful when we had to switch rooms due to a bedframe repair. The room also wasn’t as clean as we had hoped, with quite a bit of dust. That said, the room was bigger than we expected, and we were really happy with how quiet it was. Overall, not a bad stay and great location!

Worst customer services that I’ve ever had. Not paying any attention on customer’s stuffs, they let customer come into the luggage room and take it, instead of bringing it out, so my bag was taken by someone else. I ended up loss over $500 of my cosmetic stuff.

This hotel has a fantastic location in midtown. Close to things including subway stations. I love Bryant Park and this place is 5-8 min walk away.
I gave the room 4/5 only because I wish there was a little fridge inside. I stayed 5 nights and it would have been extremely nice to be able to refrigerate water, a sandwich, fruit, etc.
Staff were great — they accommodated my room preferences (away from noise). Though on the 4th night there, the people staying next door has music on quite loud. I called the reception desk and made a complaint, not to be difficult, but because I am just sensitive to noise. I’m not sure if it was ever addressed but the noise did die down about an hour later.
Overall, I slept great, the bed was extremely comfortable and the room stayed cool with the AC turning on periodically.
The hotel restaurant (Zoi) has delicious food + drinks, and in the morning I ordered a delicious latte.
Upon checking out, staff offered to hold my suitcase since my flight was in the afternoon. This was super helpful. They also scheduled my taxi. My only complaint is that when the guy brought my luggage out when I picked it up, I wish he took it outside for me all the way to the taxi, I had to carry the heavy luggage down the stairs and fumble with the second door. All the while there were two men handling the reception desk. It’s little things but they can make or break your experience.

Clean room. Very comfortable beds. Pretty quiet, I mean it's NYC so yeah some street noise. Voucher for free coffee, which was excellent. Didn't try the restaurant, however it looked fantastic and was always packed. Discount for garage was appreciated. Perfect location for what I needed. All in all a good stay. Will definitely book again next time in the city.

The room and bathroom were good sized. It was fairly spartan but microwaves and other items are available upon request. 65\" Smart was nice to have on evenings. The bed was super comfortable. We slept well!

Lots of restaurants and subway stations nearby including Penn station.

The hotel is in very poor condition. There was no hot water in the sink faucet and the portable heating/cooling system is ridiculously outdated. The paint and grout are so poorly applied that it looks like the work of a child.

Stay was decent. Staff friendly. Rooms were not super clean (bed and bathroom had hair). Bed frame very squeaky. Faucet for sink was broken and when you turn on the shower, water comes out from shower head and the pipe at the same time. Very basic and almost lacking in toiletries and in-room items. Great location in Ktown, close to subway and lots of food, had a nice bar and restaurant in the lobby.

Beware of zero sound insulated rooms (thin single paned window majorly needs an update), as well as the nightclub on ground level’s music reaching your room (even with earplugs) if on a lower floor. Cute hotel, but that’s not enough to compensate for zero sleep.

Checked into my room at the life hotel and was disappointed. Upon entrace to the room one side of the bed was pulled back like someone had been sleeping in the bed. The runner was folded and sitting on the end of the bed instead of laying across the bed. Made me feel like someone was napping in the room. No wash clothes in the room. The next moring bright and early the staff was loud and disruptive, doors being slammed. I was not happy with this stay. The room was cute, but overall disappointed

The room was clean and bright, with comfortable beds. The bathroom was small, and didn’t have a vent or fan, so it steamed up a lot after a shower. The staff was attentive and helpful. It would have been nice to have a dresser in the room, and a comfortable chair. But overall, a nice hotel with a good location, and reasonably priced.
