simply the best location for Prague, quaint and walkable to most sights and this hotel was so historic and beautiful. One note to the hotel is that the creature comforts could be addressed like better towels, robe and room service would bring another star rating, for now it isn't for the high maintenance traveller.

Great building, so-so hotel

The only positive thing to say is that the hotel is in a building of architectural and historical interest, good location if you want to be in Mala Strana.

Otherwise, it’s a mediocre place to stay, with run down rooms in need of renovation. Barebones amenities, a below average breakfast. The charm on the promotional photos does not materialize in real life.

Very old authentic hotel with stained glass windows depicting historic portraits of Czech people which was different and I liked that. Beautiful balustrades on staircase and artistic ceilings which added beauty and character to the place. Our 3rd floor superior room was spacious with more than enough cupboard space and contained very old solid wooden furniture in keeping with the character of the hotels age and style. Due to small stained glass window, the room lacked natural daylight but there was adequate electric lighting. The bathroom was spacious and adequately equipped. The breakfast dining room is small but the staff in there were efficient and pleasant. If you are wheat intollerant like me, then the eggs and greek yoghurt are nice plus there was corn and rice crackers with packets of varied spreads. There is a coffee machine and teabag selection plus juice. Several cereals and excellent choice of dried fruit and seeds. The hotel is up a steep hill past the castle so you need strong legs and good lungs. There is one slow lift in hotel and it is only big enough for 2 average sized people with cabin cases. Overall its ok for a few days.

A great little hotel, away from the crowds

A lovely hotel, tucked away, under the castle walls and lovely and peaceful, at night, once the cathedral and castle visitors have left.
It is a little out of the way, and up a steep hill, but that all adds to the charm. A lovely stay in a beautiful hotel.
Highly recommend for those who are happy to be away from the thronging tourists.

Friendly staff, fun decor, good breakfast included, pretty good location (it's an easy walk from the castle—I think you could argue that there are more sights on the other side of the river in the old town, but the castle is probably the biggest single attraction). Downside of the location is that you had to walk down the hill a bit to catch an Uber (apparently you're too close to the Castle) but generally it wasn't a big deal, and most would still drop you off in front of it. I had the fruit plate delivered to my room, and it was huge and generally very good (I thought the pineapple was exceptionl). Very happy with my choice and would likely stay there again if I returned to Prague

The whole property is unique, ceilings with paintings, windows, beds. Very positive and helpful staff, nice and tasty breakfast. Perfect location just 10 min walk from Charles bridge and 2 min from castle. Literally the best place to feel the spirit of Prague. Recommended!

Picturesque and full of character

We loved how cosy and characteristic the hotel was, with wooden furniture and stained glass windows. The staff were attentive and helpful, and breakfast offered a good variety of tasty food. The location is quiet and perfect to visit every corner of Hradčany and Mala Straná. Slightly more negative notes were the absence of air conditioning (we were visiting during a heatwave) and the fact that the staff was a bit insistent in asking us to vacate the room as soon as possible five minutes before check out time.
Overall we would recommend it for anyone who prefers small hotels to big chains.

The location is good for people without mobility issues. We loved to be near the castle and be able to walk to it and to the Charles bridge. The staff is welcoming and very helpful. The breakfast was good. The only thing that was not expected is the size of the shower- it’s tiny. It may creat an issue for some guests. The bed was on a firm side, a bit too firm, but the rest is what you may expect from authentic old Prague hotel. We enjoyed the stay.

U Krale Karla wonderful antique hotel experiance.

Nice clean room, greate location - few minutes waking distance to city and from Hradcany Castel. Really antique hotel with all XXI century amenities. Nothing complain except : Parking for a car. This hotel has only 2 parking spots. It's very hard to find any parking place in \"blue\" zone, especially if you check in at night. And cost extra as well.

Attractive hotel, lovely entrance/reception area, few minor maintenance issues, in our room the pole to hold back the curtain was coming away from the wall, rattling window frames when it was windy, shower temperature wasn't consistent, flowed hot and cold so you either froze or got scalded with no notice, presumably as other people used showers/flushed toilets while we were showering. We had the deluxe room which was a fantastic size, loved the beams and the decoration, with separate seating area and had a mini fridge which was great. There was also a coffee machine in the room which we used but hadnt realised until checkout that they charged for the coffee! Didnt cost a fortune but it would have been useful to have the prices on the box containing the coffee pods rather than on the price list for the mini bar items, which we deliberately didn't use, so didn't read the price list. Coffee in rooms is generally free of charge so we didn't realise that it was being charged for. Free glass of bubbly on check in was a nice touch and the breakfast was quite nice and the hot choice varied each day. Overall, we enjoyed our stay. One tip though, if you use a taxi, ask the receptionist to call a local one rather than the hotel one as they are much cheaper - the hotel obviously put a mark up on the prices. Taxi back to airport would have been an extra 150 Koruna more using the hotel taxi. The location of the hotel was really good with lots of restaurants close by.

Pluses.... For a North American the decor is the obvious distinction of this hotel. The room was a deluxe on the 3rd floor. It was large with a separate sitting area and the stained glass windows opened out so I could look up and down the cobbled streets. The ceiling is highly decorative and the wooden accents all contribute to the medieval feel. However this does not apply.. thank goodness.. to the large and modern bathroom.
I was traveling solo and the charm of the place obviously would suit a couple.
The negative for me was the horrible wifi. Not so I can check Facebook or BuzzFeed but so I can plan my itinerary, checkout reviews of local restaurants and get my boarding passes.
The self serve breakfast was fine..neither great nor horrible.

Travel back in time, but with modern luxuries

Absolutely loved our stay at this wonderful “time machine” of a hotel. Breakfasts were great (OMG the portage!). Coffee was great as well.

Service was top notch, and helpful and easy to communicate with.

Floor resurfacing was going on during our stay, but was only a minor irritant, and I struggle even mentioning it, because they timed it well and, come on, who stays in their hotel all day when Prague is outside those doors!

If you are not comfortable with walking up an incline road, consider transport to and from, but I must say, with all the wonderful shops around every corner, just get your comfortable shoes on and hit the road.

Will stay here again, if Prague is in our radar.

This charming hotel is located within walking distance from most attractions. Walking downhill toward the Charles Bridge was no problem, however, upon our return going uphill was a bit difficult. No problem, taxis nearby when we needed that lift! The hotel staff were extremely helpful and our room was lovely! The shops and restaurants clise to the hotel were great!

Beautiful, Intimate Hotel!

We are in love with this beautiful hotel! Very intimate and private (19 rooms). The staff were all very friendly, helpful, and accommodating. The front desk booked train tickets for us (since we were traveling to Germany after our stay), and set-up a driver to pick us up. They also called Prague Tours for us when we had questions. They made our stay in a foreign country less stressful! Excellent location, located on a side street away from the crowds, but still a 5 minute walk to Prague Castle. Our 1st night, we received a complimentary drink ticket for Hotel Red Lion Prague. It turned out to be champagne.

Absolutely the best hotel experience I've ever had

This hotel was absolutely wonderful. We stayed here on our first visit to Prague and I was a bit nervous about getting around. The staff were responsive and helpful in helping us plan to get from the airport, they offered us champagne and upgraded our room, the whole place is gorgeous and feels like living in a fairy tale. We loved the neighborhood, so many places easily walkable (though it is on a slope). Yummy breakfast in an intimate setting that doubles as a wine bar with delicious nibbles at night. This was our favorite hotel of the whole multi-city trip and we are hoping to go back again for more!

Super comfortable boutique hotel castle adjacent

Adela at the hotel made airport transfer arrangements for me which worked out seamlessly. When I arrived, I was given at an upgrade to room 101, a junior suite which has the most breathtakingly beautiful statue of Our Blessed Mother and Baby Jesus as well as a gas fireplace, a Nespresso machine, and stained glass windows. The buffet breakfast is really off the charts and I stay in hotel or other accommodations at least 70 nights or more throughout the year. Fortunately, it is also in a quiet location which is just a 10 minute walk down the hill to the Charles Bridge. My primary reason for visiting Prague was to go to Our Lady Victorious to see the Infant Jesus of Prague and that is also just a 10 minute walk. All in all a really great hotel in a super city.

Beautiful hotel in great location

We stayed here for 4 nights in February. The hotel were great even before we arrived, as they booked airport transfers for us and also made check-in easier by requesting certain details beforehand. We were allowed to check in an hour or so earlier, and we were given a complimentary glass of sparkling wine. The room was beautiful and a great size, and had a separate area with wardrobes and even a sink and hobs hidden in the cupboards! The bed was very comfy and the room was very cosy and warm, which was perfect to come back to after a day out in the cold. The bathroom was a good size, however the shower was a bit temperamental, and could change from hot to cold with the slightest nudge of one of the taps. Also, with the room being on the road, it was quite noisy even at 7/8am, with bin lorries and all sorts going up the road. Breakfast every day was great, with a variety of hot and cold food, and plenty of it on offer. The location was incredible - at the foot of the castle and about 10 minutes away from Charles Bridge and the Old Town. We would definitely stay here again.

The hotel offered a lovely welcome when we arrived and as our room wasn't ready they took our bags so we could explore Prague. The stained glass and general feel is in-keeping with the city. On our return everything was fine and we found ourselves in a lovely large room (303).

The room comprised a small kitchenette area, which was more of a dressing room/ lounge, small bathroom and large bedroom. Plenty of storage, includes a hair dryer and a fancy coffee maker too. All very good.

It is easy to walk down the hill into town and there is a tram to take you back up if the walk is too much. Though you can always take a break in one of the cafés or pubs.

We stayed for 2 nights and had 2 rooms, the rooms are a decent size and look like the ones in the pictures, the hotel has a lot of old Prague character. It is not a large hotel and is on the castle side of the river so is quiet at night making for a good nights sleep. Prague castle and the cathedral are a 5 minute walk and you can walk down the street to St Charles bridge in less than 10 minutes. The price to quality ratio is very good and we would stay there again. If arriving by car there is car lot but its not near by and requires a 7 minute walk up to the Prague castle and can be a challenge to find where exactly it is located but the price was fare.

Stayed one night for tea but unfortunately the evening meal was not very good.
Mixed saled consisted of lettuce and tomatoes.
No bread with soup . We had to ask for it. Came with no butter.
It was expensive for what we received.
In fact we skipped dessert and coffee and went elsewhere.
They were 3 different sets of people and everyone of us didn't like it.

Decent location but it's definitely not a 4 star hotel. Hotel staff was \"okay\". The airport and train station pickup/drop off was arranged by a third party who did not arrive on time and was incredibly rude and difficult to deal with.

Wonderful hotel to stay! Antiques rooms see amazing! No need for AC because the back alley street, which lead to the Prag Castle, acts like a wind tunnel. The breakfast however tasted a bit dry.

Lovely Hotel

After a really bad journey this hotel was the saving grace for us. It was clean, lovely rooms, helpful friendly staff who went out of their way to help. Would recommend this hotel and would stay again.

6 night stay for business. Friendly pleasant staff, outstanding breakfast, fantastic location (no gym needed since it is always up/down walking), quiet rooms.
However, no air-conditioning in 1-3 floors, even no fans -- it was hard to sleep even for night temperature 60 F and lower due to high humidity, even with open windows. Certainly, I do not advice to book this hotel in summer
time! Promised wifi in the rooms does not work.

Unbelievable for the price

Huge room by European standards, nice fittings, a safe and mini bar. Wifi was a bit spotty. Easy walk down the charles bridge into town, however it is on a hill so anyone who isn't able to walk well may want to reconsider although there are nearby tram stops

Great hotel, staff could do better

The hotel is great but the staff would do better with a service diploma or some sort of training: We asked 2 different receptionists how to find qualified guides in Prague. They told us there are none...?! We found the official, qualified guides via the tourist info in the centre...
Also, there was a girl service breakfast who could not tell us about the different juices. When we politely asked her to go find out (allergy concerns), she actually rollen her eyes!!

Beautiful roomy hotel

Beautiful hotel full of character. Receptionist that greeted us was very knowledgable and pleasant although greeted us with a complete giggling fit, hope it wasn't because of us. Welcomed with a glass of sparkling wine. Room was very grand with heavy oak furniture, comfy bed fabulous painted ceiling and lovely large bathroom. Hairdryer and toiletries included but you had to pay extra for tea/coffee making facilities and sundries. Telly had 1 american CNN channel, everything else foreign, 2 music channels (no 16 and 54) dining room very elaborately painted with a fresco and breakfast a bit different every day, mainly continental but with either sausages or bacon on alternate days. Beware the hotel is a long way up a steepish hiss but apparently you can get the metro in a large circle from town that ends up further up the hill so you can walk down. There is a lift at the hotel

A gem right beside the Palace!

Perfect location! One minute walk from the Palace!
Prague overall was a small city so to walk from the hotel to Charles Bridge and the Old Town only took a 10/15 (scenic) stroll.
The Hotels location setting was beautiful. It's on a steep hill. The walk down is easy! To walk up takes a level of fitness but even still, a taxi each night (wherever we ended up) only cost about €5.
The staff were so friendly and accommodating. The free breakfast every morning was fresh and plentiful.
The Hotel was an \"antique\" Hotel. The interior and furniture all being pretty cool.
We got a glass of sparkling wine on arrival and the staff were just all quite friendly.
I'd recommend this beautiful spot and we would return in a heartbeat!
At night time the cobble stone streets outside were lit up and it was fairly quiet.
Aged 30-33 yrs old.

Great place but not much sleep

Everything about my stay was great except for the size of the beds. Stayed in a room with 2 twin beds, were the narrowest beds I have seen or slept on, similar in width to a hospital stretcher. Room was nice, staff helpful, breakfast was great.

Period hotel very close to the castle.

Small hotel with character. Period furniture. Elegant furnishings. Fantastic location where you could buy anything at all. However, not so close to the main tourism section that it was noisy. Enjoyed the buffet breakfast, which offered hot and cold food, which varied slightly each day. Everywhere you would want to visit in Prague was in easy reach, within 15 minutes. The hotel was almost at the top of a steep hill, which was fine for us. You can get the tram and walk down the hill if you don't fancy walking from the Old Town. We weren't expecting air conditioning but did have it (although it was nicer to have the stained glass windows open to enjoy the late morning violinist playing on the road up towards the castle). The area itself is where the main palaces are as well as the castle and Loretta. It also had many European embassies in this area too. It felt really safe at night, no stag groups in sight. The hotel next door had a bar overlooking the hill, which was nice to watch the segways zoom up the hill, people watch and enjoy the view towards the Charles Bridge. The hotel does not offer evening food, but there were many places nearby that offered a variety of food for all budgets. The hotel mainly had couples but there were also families there, and it appeared family friendly. Prague itself is very family friendly.

Great hotel! We stayed one night. We really liked the decor of the unit. The unit had a bedroom with additional room/kitchen. The kitchen had a stove and little sink. The hotel was very hard to find on a one-way street. Parking is a challenge, but the staff was very quick with parking recommendations and options. I would definitely stay here again.
