We requested room change but unfortunately we moved to the room on the same floor was unclean: dirty cups, used towels even dead insects on the sofa. The hotel is very nice, well appointed and immaculate. All hotel employees we encountered were friendly, welcoming and professional. The front desk staff provided a map of things to see and kindly explained the best places to visit, as well as calling Ubers for our family. The bar was fun, great drinks, and a great way to relax after a long day of site seeing. We had dinner in the restaurant and enjoyed the food, service and atmosphere! Very much appreciated the maid service, finding cookies on bed, and mat laid out on floor adjacent to the bed upon our evening returns. Nice touch. Loved our stay and highly recommend.

Lovely hotel just outside the touristy part of Florence. The walk to the Duomo and other attractions is an easy 15-20 minutes, or the hotel will arrange a cab. The breakfast buffet is also terrific. We loved our suite. The only suggestion would be to add a mirror or two to make it easier for multiple occupants to get ready in the morning.

Decent stay, but definitely not 5 star hotel

Overall ok, but hotel is definitely not a 5 star property. Very expensive for what you get. Had to carry our own luggage because the eleveator is so small, one person could barely fit. I was not aware of the other eleveators on the opposite side which were supposedly larger, I was made aware at the check out. Breakfast was also very limited and at times empty.

We got a family connecting room. One of the rooms was constantly blowing hot air and there was no way to reduce the temperature. The elevator was tiny - I have not seen such a tiny elevator. Otherwise staff were really nice and helpful. The hotel was overall nice.

When we checked into the hotel they did not offer us luggage assistance. My wife had an injured foot but we had to walk all the way aroind the hotel because the nearby elevator was to small for two and luggage. On the second day we asked for more water.$30. No glasses. They came back with paper cups. $70 for breakfast. Shame on you Hilton. I would rather stay at a motel 6. My worst hotel experience ever

My stay at this establishment was amazing! I have to say the staff was so great and helpful. They were quick to respond and ensured our stay was good. I stayed in the King suite and it was very spacious and clean! The location is great, just outside the main centre, but close enough to walk! And the walk is very nice. I would definitely be visiting his hotel again next time I’m in Florence!

Not as advertised. As of April 2024 this hotel is listed as having internet on its TVs (netflix, hulu, etc.) both in Expedia and the hilton webpage. A pretty standard amenity in 5 star hotels. This is one of the reasons we chose this hotel, but when we checked in we learned that it doesn't have this in any room. When we showed the receptionist how the listing and our reservation said it included streaming TV they just shrugged.

Also the overall quality of the hotel feels more like a 3 or 4 stars hotel. There is no one to take your luggage to your room. Elevators are the smallest Ive seen, they literally only fit 2 people, or 1 person and its luggage.

The hotel check in was good and Elizabeth on reception very pleasant.
- [ ] The room was on the ground floor on street level and it was fine, a good size with a huge comfy bed. It was clean with nice bed linen. It was a bit dark in there and the air conditioning didn’t work. We never complained and just opened a window instead, but the odd car whizzing past in the early hours did disturb us.The bathroom was good, and a good shower too and the whole room very “Italian” like. Breakfast was good with a good selection of fruits, drinks and the best croissants I’ve ever had. They had bacon, sausage and scrambled egg too. The hotel location was good about 15 minutes from the train station and the same to walk to the Ul Duomo so a great location. Overall the hotel was okay and I’d rate it at 7.5 out of 10 and would recommend it to friends.

The worst hotel ever

This is by far the worst hotel I've stayed in. The rooms are awful, filthy and no overhead shower only a hand help one, you literally have to hold the hand held shower as there is no hook for it.
The staff are unhelpful and defensive.

On the first night we changed rooms as the room given to us was disgusting, on the second night we discovered the air con didn't work the hotel said they can move us again to which I declined as we had an early morning tour booked and we had unpacked again. It is not OK to have 3 rooms for a 4 night stay!

On the final night we had opened the window to let some fresh air in as the air con was not fixed, little did I know I was going to e attacked in my sleep by mosquitos. I have over 40 bites, 11 of which are on my face and have had to take medication for these as they are very raised, red and sore.

If the hotel had fixed the air con then I would not be sitting here looking like I have chicken pox. I confronted the reception staff about his and they said I should have asked for a mosquito plug in, like I knew I was going to be attacked in my sleep! They also said the air con was working... I can 110% say the air con was NOT working.

Over all this hotel is not a 4* and needs to go under review!

Hotel with Character.

Old style hotel with charm to match, rare to find a Hotel with a lot of it's original characteristics still in position in this day and age of little boxes. Desk staff were extremely helpful booking tables for 18 on the Sunday night at a nearby restaurant ,and on following night too, wouldn't have got a place to eat for all of us without efforts of desk staff for so big a party, food was excellent too.
A 15 minute amble to The Ponte de Vecchio bridge and the inner city, so not too strenous a stroll, felt that the AngloAmerican was well situated, desk staff arranged taxis for us without any problems.
Breakfast was there if you needed it, I just had coffee & croissant in morning which was fine for me.
Rooms were clean and tidy and Bathroom was nice.

Tolstoy had once stayed here .

The shower was poor, the hand-held version being the only option. The staff were excellent but the room didn't live up to the promise of the 4 stars..

I was very impressed with everything about this hotel. First off, I have to commend the complimentary breakfast. Everything was fresh and tasty. It made me look forward to my mornings. Staff was helpful and friendly. They mailed a few postcards for me after I bought some stamps. The room was clean and well kept. My wife and I enjoyed the little chocolates they left on our pillows every day. Overall, this is a solid hotel!

For the price, this place was a bit disappointing

Assigned me a two-level room for 3 people (me, wife and kid). Carpet was old/dirty and A/C did not work. The bedroom on the upper level got pretty warm. Could not sleep and had to change rooms at 1am. A/C in the new room also had issues and struggled to hold the temp. But definitely better than sweating through the night. Would not book here again. All hotels in this neighborhood were pricey. I guess I'll look for something a little further away on my next trip.

Beautiful hotel close to the water

We had originally booked a 3-bed room, but when we arrived they informed us that we had been chosen as their “lucky guests” which meant an upgrade to a suite and a free drink. The suite was AMAZING- two bathrooms/showers, a closet, our own balcony, and two bedrooms. It was so clean and well-kept. The rest of the hotel is absolutely beautiful. They have a bar area and an outdoor terrace that you can enjoy. Location is excellent- very close to the river and lots of restaurants. I’d 100% recommend this place!! Unfortunately, I didn’t take any pics of the room but if you do a google search there are a lot of images that come up!

Could be a great hotel

The hotel lobby & breakfast area are exceptional. The rooms, hallways, & other facilities are in POOR condition with paint peeling off the wall; baseboards that are chipped with bare plaster showing, worn-through carpets - immediately in front of the lobby elevator the carpet is worn away. The outer facade of the building is in need of repair with the peeling paint on the window frames, chipped plaster falling off the wall, and the entire front of the building is dirty.

The Staff was tremendous, placing us in an upgraded room when I complained about the condition of the original room - but, even the upgraded room was still needing some work. I was informed that the hotel is planning to close sometime in 2018 for a major repair.

Final concerning observation is a critique of the Hotel's management - the breakfast during the first three days in the facility was good - but, as my wife put it: \"When the important people arrived\" - the breakfast was then stocked with smoked salmon, pastries, and other upgraded items. The \"Important People\" where part of the Pitti Fashion show - who were in the hotel from Monday night through Thursday morning. The Sunday breakfast, which in other hotels is normal slightly better was no where near as good as the breakfast served from Tuesday - Thursday 1/9 - 1/11 (2018).

Affordable hotel in Florence with a good breakfast

We recently stayed at the hotel after staying in Rome, and had decided to get a less expensive option in Florence because there is so much to see - you will be walking all day and not in the Hotel Room much. We also decided to get a balcony room - I wouldn't bother with this upgrade considering the hotel is two/three streets over from the arno and there really isn't much of a view worth upgrading for - our balcony at least did not have a table and chairs and was simply a walk-out.

The check-in process was simple and quick, most of the staff knew English quite well and they were really friendly. They offered a map and asked if we had any questions about seeing anything local. The included breakfast was really good - first time I've seen multi-grain croissants and included the typical Italian breakfast spread as well as some eggs (not so great).

The only real issues with the hotel was the condition of the room. Maybe at some point in the past the rooms were considered to be high end, but it seems that room maintenance has been lacking for a number of years. The room was ok (at least the bed was very clean/crisp), but certain things like the shower being quite tight made the basic things we planned on doing a little cramped. There was an issue with ants as well in our particular room but we were already settled in and knew the only solution would have been to switch rooms entirely so we ignored it. Overall we didn't feel like the room was clean enough to get comfortable.

We stayed at the NH Anglo American in August for a week of touring Tuscany.
The hotel is located on the close to the centre of Florence so a 15 minute walk from the Duomo.
Breakfast at the hotel is very good and the hotel is spotless and our room was to a very good standard with its own terrace.
However, each level of the hotel is served by two tiny lifts (a maximum of 2 people or 1 with luggage). Not really good enough when there's a rush to check out on a morning.
There is reference to car parking: this is in a local parking garage and you will need to budget ab extra €30-€35 per day (park in the street and the car could be towed away).
As a hotel it's very good and we would recommend but just take the lifts and parking into consideration if important to you.

Hotel within walking distance of main tourist attractions of Florence,lovely reception area but the rooms look like they need a bit of attention.
Breakfast was lovely,plenty choice and seemed fresh.The conservatory was a lovely place to sit at night but the drinks were extremely expensive..9 euro for a vodka tonic was a bit excessive.

Sewer smell!!

When we got to the room there was sewer smell!! And really poignant. We opened the windows hoping airing would help but it was actually coming from the outside. The hotel staff mentioned they had no other rooms available so they sent someone in to spray air freshener instead. He sprayed so much that we couldn't bear the chemical smell and had to leave the room. When we came back to the room after a while it had even a worse smell between the sewer and chemical smell. When I explained to the receptionist that there was NO WAY we could sleep in that room she reached out to another branch and arranged for us to get another hotel room. We received a solution at the end but was the most horrible hotel experience I had in a long time.

The positives:

The hotel is clean and comfortable.
The rooms are nicely decorated and the hotel feels authentically Italian.
The staff are polite and friendly.
The breakfast selection was good and always tasted nice.

The negatives:

The hotel is a bit too far outside of the centre of Florence. It's probably fine in the middle of winter but for the summer months the walk is a bit too much in the heat.
It's a no thrills hotel - there isn't anything special or standout like a roof top terrace or beautiful atrium or restaurant.

A Home Away from Home

My husband & I have stayed at NH Anglo American 5 or 6 times over the last few years when we come to Florence for business & pleasure. The staff are terrific, recognizing us & making us feel like family by remembering little things we like. ( I'm the tea lady who likes a teapot.) Elizabeth on the front desk is a treasure, lovely to deal with.
The hotel is charming with a beautiful breakfast room, with ornate cornices, chandeliers & windows that are carried out into the front hallway & an outdoor seating area. The breakfast menu is international in its scope.
The rooms are lovely with high ceilings & all the amenities.
The hotel is 2 blocks from the Arno River which we use to walk to the centre of town. It is also in a quieter area which is a nice respite from the busier areas.

Nice hotel within walking distance of sights.

This has the makings of a fabulous hotel. The public areas downstairs were stunning. However the room we stayed in for two nights did not deserve a four star rating. The wallpaper was peeling off the walls and the paint was peeling off the window frames, which gave the room a really tired, sad feeling. The space for hanging clothes in the 'wardrobe' really wasn't adequate. The room and bathroom were spotlessly clean but could really do with a bit of 'tender loving care'. The carpet in the hallway was threadbare and the paint on the skirting boards was chipped and badly marked. The breakfast was great and plentiful and in a beautifully decorated room. Some of the rooms in this hotel need refurbished, I cant't speak for them all, just the room we stayed in! Not worth 4 stars!

Very friendly staff, nice location but NO PARKING!

We booked this hotel under the premise that we could park our car in the hotel / or that they had dedicated parking for guests. Upon arrival, it was clear that the parking would be in a local parking garage at a cost of €25 a day plus €5 extra if we wanted to take the car out at any point. This is an expensive surprise that was not clearly and explicitly advertised by the hotel. There are other hotels similarly priced that do have their own parking, so I would explore those options thoroughly before booking the Anglo American.

Another point, we were offered a much larger room across three floors with a terrace, which (on paper) sounds great. However, in reality it is a bland and poorly maintained room.

And whilst the staff are very friendly and willing to help book tickets to attractions (including the Uffizi and the Galleria Academia), they are understaffed by experienced staff at key points during the day which is always frustrating.

Beautiful hotel

Amazing room in a beautiful older hotel. Staff very friendly & helpful. Parking available for a fee. Only negative was that the lift was located up a few steps so we needed to lift our bags a bit.

Had 5 rooms. Some were in great condition another had peeling wallpaper and look like they need to be repaired/updated. Carpet was stained in the hallways.

The atrium deck had loose boards and elderly (70 and 80s) had to watch our steps especially those with canes.

Staff was helpful when an issue came up on early morning van retrieval. Staff needs to let guest know that the garage is closed from 1am to 7 am and no way to get vehicles during this time.

Very pleasant location,

Very pleasant quiet location, convenient to the centre of the city on foot, helpful & very courteous staff, excellent breakfast provided each morning with plenty of choice. Room service excellent too and room nicely clean - notwithstanding very tired wall paper.

Convenient and clean hotel

The location of the hotel was quite convenient for visiting various tourist attractions either on foot or by taxi. It also has several restaurants of different cuisine in the vicinity. Though there was no hot water kettle in the room, the hotel would provide hot water on request at any time. Service and spread at breakfast was quite good.

Hotel was beautiful and very easily accessible from all major florentine sites. Lovely restaurants right around the corner and not too noisy. The room was spacious which was a plus. Unfortunately the free breakfast was pretty dreadful and the wifi was barely crawling. The elevator was claustrophobic but good excuse to walk the stairs after some gelato.
