The staff at this hotel are really super friendly and helpful - but it’s a pity the product is so tired. The beds are DONE - you can literally feel the springs on the side of the bed. The airconditioning in the rooms work well - but are super noisy. The bathroom, although nothing wrong and perfectly clean - just feels straight out of the 90’s. This might have been a 4 star property until a few years ago - but it is in dire need of an update. Breakfast was adequate, but not mind blowing.

We loved our stay here. The staff are all so helpful and gracious. The breakfast is incredible and we looked forward to it every morning. The room was spacious and comfortable and the location made it convenient to walk to both the waterfront and to attractions like the District 6 museum or castle. The gym was good and the little pool is lovely.

We didnt receive the room we reserved, what made the matter worse is that the welcome letter in the room had a different name which suggested that another guest was given our room honesty for the amount paid this was unacceptable.

the hotel did try and make it up to us the following day by changing the room but we left for the whole day to complete our itinerary for that day and when we returned they had checked in someone else.

the hotel really needs to improve on this , they also need to consider that a welcome letter in the room creates a bond with the hotel or personalizes your stay with them and if i find a difference name ...

everything else felt standard after this event.

Excellent modern hotel. Large comfortable and clean room with an enormous bed and effective aircon. Excellent power availability - not affected by load shedding at all. Breakfast was excellent, plenty of tables, attentive staff and a wonderful egg station.

Check in and help from both Andrea and Ignatius very nice and professional.
If you prefer less road noise ask for a room facing the back.
Hotel is in good nick, just tap water is horribly chlorinated, get youtself a big water bottle from the Spar supermarket down the road.
Coffees ordered at breakfast take a long time, but staff (Dorothy, etc) very nice.
Not much choice for vegetarians at breakfast.

Business trip , walking distance to where I needed to be . Fortunately, I was not spending much time in the room . Had to request a room with a bigger tv, initial room has a tiny tv. Shower is terrible , no pressure and water takes about 5 minutes to warm up. Requested an upgrade and despite not having full occupancy they wanted a ridiculous rate per night.. didn’t think the difference was warranted .Overall staff were friendly and helped if they could .

Worst ever booking experience

The worst booking I have ever made on hotels.com. What was portrayed on hotels.com as the room was a complete misrepresentstion of what the hotel room I booked actually looked like.

I ended up sitting 4 hours, going back and forth with hotels.com agents and could not get the issue resolved. I ended up having to pay an additional R1500 for an upgrade to get a better room. A room that was in the first place portrayed as the room I was booking. If hotels.com had shown the corrwct room pictures, i would jever have booked that room int he first place. This was honestly the worst experience I have had and I have to say that the agents were not exactly the most helpful.

The onoy reason I am still booking on hotels.com is because i have reaed nights i want to finish using. After that I would prefer booking on a website that actually has correct info. And also for the record this is not the first time Inhave had issues like this with the website

We arrived at 14:00 for checkin as stated this was the checkin time. We had to wait in the reception until 14:45 with the desk staff not really worried. At the end i had to vent my frustration to get it sorted. The second day they started doing a refurb next door as we were trying to have a nap before a night out. The banging went on for two hours even after asking The front desk thee times To stop. Later that afternoon we found we had not been given any towels. Overall not impressed with the management of this hotel.

stayed here for a business trip and loved it. It was central to everywhere, staff were friendly,breakfast good. Very near to Beluga restaurant which is awesome. The only downside is that the aircon was noisy, so he didn’t use it ( luckily it wasn’t really needed)

The hotel is nice and, overall, the staff are friendly. The rooms are compact, but the size was fine for me. The breakfast was good and reasonably priced. My only issue with the room is that the carpet needed to be cleaned and probably replaced. Also, like many areas of Cape Town, there is little to no foot traffic in the neighborhood after dark. The hotel provides a free shuttle to the waterfront area which is quite lively. If you are traveling alone, you might want to consider a hotel nearer to the waterfront so that you can conveniently walk to restaurants and bars after dark. Cape Town is not the most friendly city for those traveling alone.

Loved our huge loft apartment, great value, well equipped. Nice to have an outdoor pool in a city hotel. Staff are all friendly. Easy walk to waterfront in the day, evening transfer available.
We only paid for breakfast one morning, probably better value and options to stick to nearby cafes instead.

My first impression of the hotel wast that it appeared utilitarian and designed for students, but once inside I was very pleasantly surprised.The room was very spacious and well equipped. The designs made it very comfortable and relaxing. It is also very conveniently located for shops and places to eat and is in walking distance of the Waterfront. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay there.

The service was so so and everything require extra money. For example: when i ask for ear bud, they charge me extra money. Other than that, for a 4 star hotel and manage by marriot, you dont have free parking slot for guest it is quite a problem. One last thing was my honeymoon trip had been informed 3 month before my departure and we booked for double bed room however what they given us was single bedroom - it was a very bad communication between the reception and hotel booking management. Not mentioned they promise to do some recimmendation for my room but reality was different.

Hope that the hotel management can have a discussion to improve the service.

Overall, our stay at protea hotel was great. But I'm very disappointed how the cleaning lady decided to steal 300 dollars from my wallet which was closed safely in the lock in our room. At this moment I'm still working with the managers in hopes to get my money back. This hotel was great until this happened and it ruined the whole trip for my girlfriend and i. Whoever decides to stay at this place, please ve cautious of room service and who enters your room.

My biggest negative issue was their Wireless Internet Service via-\"Always-On\" This is a widely available WiFi service - but their Security Certificate had expired and has not been renewed for months. So your conection will not be secure via-Always On... (This is a company external to the Hotel) .

The Manager Mr. Anzeel was a good listener, had friendly, positive attitude, and best of all, he dealt with my concerns.

Pros: good location in regards to getting to other places (but see below), close to waterfront, clean and tidy, decent bathroom, helpful staff (I left something in my room which they helped me find several hours after checking out), good cheap cafe around the corner called Table Thirteen.
Cons: bad location in regards to nearby surroundings (as per the name, the hotel sits between two busy roads), noisy due to traffic (odd numbers face street - might be better with an even number room), only 500mb of free WiFi per day and if you come from UK you might need to connect to a different network (I had to ask for help), if you are a coffee aficionado: be warned the rooms only come with instant, some of the lightbulbs in my room did not work, the air con was not very powerful.

Overall experience was good and most of the staff really nice. They upgraded us to apartment due to kid which was very nice. Was slightly away from V&A waterfront and not ideal to walk as takes 15-20 min. Also hotel only has couple of shuttle to V&A in evening unlike other hotels which have hourly shuttle.

First Time in Cape Town, First Time at Protea

When my husband and I decided on Cape Town for our honeymoon destination, we decided to stay at the Protea Hotel since it's a part of the Marriott family, and it was great! The hotel is in a convenient location, walking distance from a grocery store, various cafes and restaurants, and about a 10 minute Uber ride to the waterfront. From the moment we checked in, the staff was courteous and helpful in explaining the usual check-in info you need to know about. To my surprise (my husband noted it with the hotel prior to our arrival), there was 2 glasses, a small bottle of champagne, and a pair of \"Mr.\" and \"Mrs.\" slippers for us waiting in the room! It was a nice gesture of welcome to our celebration getaway. The room was clean with your basic necessities. During our stay, the staff was quick to supply ice when we were looking for it and extra bath towels when we needed it. All in all, I'd recommend this hotel to my friends and family who decide to visit Cape Town. My husband and I will definitely stay here again whenever we decide to return!

Worse Hotel experience. I have experienced 5 Star to R&R accommodations. All have been very good to enjoyable. I have never got close to this bad experience. Check in ok but there after it got bad. WiFi out for over 3 months. Wash cloth removed and lost. Over charged breakfast and laundry instruction not followed and charged.. Coordination between employees poor. Avoid this hotel. I would even question Protea after learning about the WiFi situation. Since I had prepaid for 5 nights. I endured the the poor condition

Nice and central modern type accomdation ideal for Business and travellers wanting someting in Town. Geeting a little more expensive to what is was, a pitty. Breakfast at nearly R200 per person is not worth it, rather go to a coffee shop nearby.
